COSMIC WEATHER:

“In his holy flirtation with the world, God occasionally drops a handkerchief. These handkerchiefs are called saints.” Frederick Buechner

With popes and beatification in the news, and would-be kings, it could be that Mars is aligned with Jupiter above! Mars and Jupiter are, indeed, conjunct in pioneering Aries now, and have been so for the last few days. This aspect is finally exact to the dot today (12:26 am EDT).

Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius (sign of religion and philosophy) and co-ruler of spiritual Pisces (ruler of saints), presides over affairs of royalty and and also clergyman, including religious figures such as the pope. Of course, we had the royal wedding on Friday of Kate Middleton and Prince William, and today, Pope Benedict XVI beatified Pope John Paul the II, bringing the late pontiff one step closer to sainthood. More than a million people descended on St. Peter’s Square and surrounding areas to partake in the event. Kate and Williams’s wedding was viewed by 2.6 billion people.

Expansive, grandiose Jupiter, associated with pomp and circumstance, generally wants everything done on a large, lavish scale. Part of his “perennially thinking big” mindset and orientation. Jupiter denotes the philosophy of optimism. “If you can believe it, you can achieve it bro! Don’t fret your poor self with worry over the pending charge account statement. You only go around once! You gotta’ live it up!” 🙂

With energizer Mars conjoined with jolly Jupiter, it is much easier for us now to get carried away with our dreams and enthusiasm, especially in “unstoppable” Aries, the sign of “act first, think later.” So, we may want to make sure that we are adding in at least some measure of common sense with our actions, so we don’t disappoint later, or bite off more than we can chew, in our glorious quest to get ahead and our name on the marquis.

With that said, this is a fantastic time for self-promotion and for selling ourselves. Too, we can even inject some Jupiterian humor into the situation, like President Obama did last night at the White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington DC.

I was checking, last night, and it appears that we have only had this Mars-Jupiter conjunction in Aries two or three times in the past 100 years or so, although these two planets meet up every couple years by conjunction. So today’s exact event is very rare. Too, we also have the Moon, Mercury, Venus and Uranus in Aries, the official sign of new beginnings. We will also not have this many planets in Aries again for many years, at least 12+ years or more. Also, the Aries Moon is simultaneously conjunct both Jupiter (10:51 am EDT) and Mars (11:21 am EDT) adding even more icing on our personality cakes.

What this all means, to me, is we have a golden, and again, very rare opportunity to re-design and re-invent ourselves now in unprecedented ways. Aries is about self-discovery, and also turning over a new leaf. If we have maybe been feeling down in the dumps, we need to somehow find a way to re-kindle our passions again today, and attempt to make our lives spectacular and magnificent, on the grand, lavish scale of Mars-Jupiter. To have the world around us take notice of us for our crowing achievements and singular contributions for the good of humanity. Even if we may initially only be a “big fish in a small pond.” At least, it’s a beginning! And, we’ll also do Mars-Jupiter proud! May the “Mars-Jupiter force,” be with you today!

“The older I grow the more I listen to people who don’t talk much.” Germain G. Glien

COSMIC WEATHER: January 11th through the 16th

Mental Mercury (communication) and manic Mars (aggressive urge) are hogging most of the astrological press this week. That’s okay. We’ll respectfully give them their fifteen minutes.

Mercury wraps up its stay in visionary Sagittarius, dutifully heading for the ambitious, goat-studded hills of Saturn-ruled Capricorn (January 13th). Our thoughts become more practical, more focused.

Also, self-assertive Mars shifts out of conforming Capricorn for Aquarius’ more non-conforming terrain (January 15th), which is psychedelically-peppered, at this time, with aging hippies, awkwardly still trying to “do their own thing,” despite all the intense years of pot-smoking and skinny-dipping. Uranus-ruled Aquarius, a sign that likes to wickedly “bend the rules,” fully embraces diversity, even the die-hard, hippie kind. It’s probably a good thing, too, that the hippies at least have a place to go to, a sign to “call home.” :)

With Mars in Aquarius now, too, it’s possible that we could even temporarily befriend one or two of these tie-dyed beings. Maybe help them to find their way, or whatever it is that they still are looking for. Maybe another Woodstock? Could be they are sticking around to see the re-emergence of bell-bottoms as a major, hot fashion trend?

January 11th: Talker Mercury meets up with big hips Jupiter in blabbermouth Sagittarius. The end result: No one gets to have the last word on anything! Steady diet of redundant chatter permeates the air everywhere. Unless we have plenty of time on our hands, it’s best to refrain from asking anyone about their personal religious or political beliefs, or about anything controversial, for that matter, as we will likely be going at each other’s throat until the cows come home.  Too, we tend to zealously over-estimate our humble abilities now, i.e. bite off more than we can chew, both literally and symbolically.

Also, we need to carefully, and systematically, scrutinize documents and contracts closely, before putting our ‘John or Mary Doe’ on them. With Mercury-Jupiter, we tend to “gloss over details,” as we’re thinking too much about the “big picture.” Mercury-Jupiter is all too often linked with misunderstandings because we tend to get sloppy or arrogant in our thinking and assume too much.

Moon in pioneering Aries still has us “blazing new trails,” although the opposition to taskmaster Saturn (8:48 pm EST) may temporarily put a roadblock in our path.

Questions to ask ourselves today: Do we tend to talk too much? Often put our foot in our mouth? What shuts us up quickly? What is our favorite topic to talk about?

January 12th: We are much more likely to feel comfortable taking unorthodox approaches with things, especially on the professional front, as we have enterprising Mars in industrious Capricorn sextile to innovative, freedom-seeking Uranus in creative Pisces. Job seekers may want to try new strategies today, particularly utilizing opportunities provided by social networking (Uranus rules the internet).

We all tend to shine more by inserting our clever originality into the picture, instead of mindlessly subscribing to the fuddy duddy status quo. The Universe is beckoning, actually clamoring for us today, to deviate from the norm. To venture outside of our cozy, designer-decorated boxes. Too, if we are up to serious mingling with others, we may get a chance to interface with highly progressive types, who can really move us forward, with their ingenious, if not wacky, off-the-wall ways of thinking.

For those of us who still maintain an active, or even a semi-active sex life (ruled by Mars), that intimate activity could possibly become more exciting now by trying out new, inventive “night moves” in the bedroom. Or, we may want to continue doing the same, sexy little things that we always do under the sheets, but with new lovers. :) Mars-Uranus likes to experiment, and also endows us with more of a scientific bent. Just pray that white laboratory mice don’t somehow enter into our nighttime equation.

The Moon also vacates accelerator Aries for lusty, self-indulgent Taurus (10:37 pm EST), which also may help our feverish, nocturnal meanderings. Chocolate, too, may be an especially heady aphrodisiac now. (Moon is in Taurus till the 15th.)

Probing questions to consider today: What is sex? Is it something we engaged in at one time with another person? Is there anything we can do now to hasten the return of it to our lives, now that we finally have this good Mars aspect?

January 13th: Our enthusiasm knows no bounds as sexy, go-getter Mars sextiles fortuitous, expansive Jupiter, who is likely toting a large bag of goodies for us. This is a super aspect! Great time to forge ahead with important projects, get things done, especially anything business-related, as Mars is still in ambitious Capricorn, which rules status, career, and reputation. Also a more positive time for dealing with bankers, members of the military, politicians, journalists, writers, publishers, lawyers, teachers, travel agents, clergy, and athletes. Physical fitness and sports-related activities additionally get the green light. We’re loving competition now, as it gives us a golden chance to strut our hot stuff all over the place!

Our thoughts also become more pragmatic and serious today with Mercury’s return to utilitarian Capricorn, where it will stay until February 3rd. We excel now by adopting a communication style that is more purposeful and strategizing. It is also critical now that we let others know exactly what it is that we are hoping to accomplish with respect to our major goals. A time to enlist the support of higher-ups to our causes.

Possible questions to ponder now: What floats our boat? What gets us excited? If we could magically do anything today, what would we do? What are our goals for 2011? What can we do this very day that will help to move us forward, closer to attaining those goals?

January 14th: Moon continues in acquisition-minded Taurus. We may want to focus on ways to build up our nest egg, while simultaneously luxuriating around the house in our silk pajamas. The Taurus Moon is all about creature comforts. Also a good time to work with the earth, or for fashioning things from clay.

Things to think about today: Are we satisfied with our present financial situation? Do we have enough money coming in to meet our needs? Are there any steps that we can take now to make us feel more secure? In our quest for material security, should we try to perhaps get on the Oprah Show, before she goes off the air, in hopes that she will be characteristically playing Santa again in the near future? Maybe we should also go so far as to suggest to Oprah that she make every future Oprah show, this 2011 season, a “favorite things show,” since this is her last go round and lucky Jupiter is still technically aligned with Oprah’s ruling planet, Uranus, which also rules broadcasting (Oprah is an Aquarian). Point out to her that it is “clearly written in the stars” for her to keep playing Santa now, since Jupiter rules Santa Claus, and she is in Uranian-ruled broadcasting. Tell her that this Jupiter-Uranus configuration is the very “believe in miracles” aspect that she is always talking about.

It’s very cool, too, that with the Jupiter-Uranus aspect exact to the minute last week, “St. Nick” Oprah publicly discussed making “Ted Williams,” an ex-radio announcer, the official voice of the OWN network. Got to love Ted’s timing. Uranus rules radio announcers, with the Jupiter-Uranus here, helping to miraculously sweeten their lot in in life. Glad for all the success and love swirling around Ted Williams now.

January 15th: Pioneering Mars takes the plunge and skyrockets into hi-tech, futuristic Aquarius. We are eager to venture off into unchartered waters. Progress is made now by embracing change and collaborating with original thinkers. The Moon also enters curious, airy Gemini, a plus for the more impromptu, convention-defying Mars in cerebral Aquarius.

Questions to entertain today: How are we about embracing change? Do we welcome new strategies, or prefer to stick with the tried-and-true? Is there any one area in our life now that would perhaps benefit by employing new methods? What is the most off-the-wall thing we have done in the past year? Have we even done anything off-the-wall? If not, why not?

January 16th: Moon continues in cheerful, chatterbox Gemini. Conversation, short trips can stimulate. An important bond or tie could also be formed with the Moon’s magical trine to stabilizing Saturn in partnership Libra (3:47 pm EST). A perfect time then to communicate our more serious intentions.

Questions to possibly grapple with today: Is there something, a subject matter, that we have been dying to talk about, for a while now, but have been hesitant to? What has been holding us back from having this conversation? What are some of our favorite words? If we had to describe ourselves in one word, what would that word be?

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” Mary Engelbreit.

Have a great week!

There’s an exciting New Moon in freedom-loving Sagittarius occurring on December 5, 2010 (12:37 pm EST). Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius is associated with roaming and exploring, communing in the great outdoors, long-distance travel, foreign cultures, philosophy, and religion. Areas and activities that are often mainstay components of “stretching” or “growing” ourselves beyond our customary borders.

Sagittarius energy is characteristically upbeat and positive. So this New Moon in Sag, with new Moons signifying “new beginnings,” may seem like a  breath of fresh air for us.

This could very well be a time when our aspirations, and hopes and dreams, all get ramped up a few notches because we’re feeling more optimistic and enthused.  The, “If you can believe it, you can achieve it” mentality.

Also, our prospects for success with our dreams, are also brighter, because the New Moon forms a harmonious sextile to achievement Saturn in relationship-ruling Libra. An aspect which also may bode well for ushering in a more stabilizing romantic situation for some of us over the next two weeks (could even be with someone from our “Saturnian” past, or someone older).

Saturn’s “positive vibe” has a knack for helping us rope in our wishes and fantasies, and making them take shape by instilling within us an attitude of commitment, determination, and dedication to hard work. Saturn rules worldly success and status, and combined with the “can-do spirit” of Sagittarius, we are primed to “go for the gold.”

Also, this New Moon in Sag forms a quintile to spiritual Neptune, making this a positive time for meditation and more mystical pursuits.

New Moon in Sagittarius activities: Athletics (including horse riding, polo, archery); travel, especially to foreign lands; developing cross-cultural relationships; learning new languages; studying philosophy, religion; creating goal-oriented vision boards; writing; publishing; teaching; preaching; enrolling in new classes; professional speaking; speech-writing; involvement in politics; advertising and self-promotion; developing sales and marketing strategies.

Patricia’s Astrology: Mercury Square Jupiter November 25, 2010

Communicator and Idea Guru Mercury, in “talk till you drop” Sagittarius, forms an exact square to “windbag” Jupiter in “Please, will everyone just shut up and meditate instead!” Pisces on November 25, 2010 (9:19 am EST). This can be a psychologically exasperating influence for us to have to deal with, especially if we have to be around people who are blabbermouths anyway. “Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah…”

Plus this influence is exact on Thanksgiving Day, a time when we are already traditionally holed up with long-winded relatives for hours on end with no chance for a fast escape.

Mercury in Sag wants to “seek and spread the truth” and aligned with Preacher Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, in delusional Pisces, we tend to go way overboard in this mission, to the point of heavy-duty fanaticism and even evangelizing the goldfish. So we definitely want to make sure that we avoid a discussion of, really, any “hot-button” topics at the Thanksgiving dinner table, i.e. religion or politics, or who really should be the next Queen of England. We would probably especially be wise to steer clear from talking about Sarah Palin and the Tea Party, or the matter of Nancy Pelosi‘s hair. Or who really should have won this year’s “Dancing With the Stars.” Lest we run the risk of all manner of mayhem ensuing and pumpkin pies being tossed in our faces and turkey drumsticks turning into homestead defense missiles.

We are also still in the aftermath of Mercury’s conjunction with warrior Mars in self-righteous Sagittarius and we have already seen what has happened on the world front in North Korea with this scary influence. Mercury conjunct Mars: “Yes, I believe it’s time to start a war!  Let me just push a few buttons here. Boy this is fun!” Right.

Additionally, Mercury square grandiose Jupiter glosses over details, exaggerates, and over-promises in its predisposition to focus on the “big picture.” But, when all is said and done, at the end of the day, Mercury-Jupiter can also be “a lot of fun” and “refreshingly optimistic.” There is more of a tendency towards laughter, and maybe cracking a few funny jokes with this aspect. And, to just look at life, and appreciate it, from a more “humorous” perspective. Jupiter does rule our “sense of humor.” Jupiter is also a “great storyteller,” especially when linked up with “wordsmith”  Mercury.

“Humor is mankind’s greatest blessing.” Mark Twain

Jupiter Opposite Neptune: Vatican Abolishes Latin As Official Liturgy 11/23

This Date In History:

November 23, 1964:

The Vatican abolishes “Latin” as the official language of the Roman Catholic liturgy. In the sky, Jupiter in Practical Taurus is applying to an exact 180 degree opposition to Neptune in Transformational Scorpio.

In astrology, Jupiter symbolizes growth and the urge to expand our horizons. It additionally represents our higher beliefs, philosophy of life, and moral convictions. As an outgrowth of this, Jupiter is associated with organized religion and formal teachings, academia, and the promulgation of wisdom and higher understanding. Neptune, meanwhile, signifies the urge to escape beyond the confines or limitations of the material earth plane. Accordingly, it represents our specific desire for a link to the divine, or our urge for spirituality. Neptune rules faith, prayer, meditation, and houses of worship. Additionally, “opposition aspects” suggest “turning points.”

With “Jupiter opposite Neptune,” therefore, the Vatican likely felt a keen need to grow or expand (Jupiter) the church’s sphere of influence in people’s lives in a practical way (Taurus), and perhaps felt that by eliminating the more complex Latin liturgy, there would be more ease of expression in the worship services (Neptune) and possibly more assimilation of the spiritual doctrine being spread. In the end, the changeover or transformation (Scorpio) ended up being a major transition for many of the regular churchgoers to adjust to, myself included.

COSMIC WEATHER:

A lot going on above us today…

The Night Owl Moon switches from Mystic Guru Pisces to Race Car Driver Aries (11:24 am EDT) at which time we may want to proceed warp-speed ahead with our agendas.  The Aries Moon is all about taking action, conquering new frontiers. Needless to say, today is not the time to be a cozy little “couch potato,” sitting around watching Oprah. But rather a time to “go out and do!” Later on, though, we may need to avoid power struggles with the Moon’s square to Controlling Pluto (5:39 pm EDT).

Mental Mercury, governing our thoughts and ideas, also joins Venus and Mars in Probing Scorpio for a three-week run. With Mercury in Scorpio, our thinking becomes deeper as we set about solving some of life’s greatest mysteries. Scorpio is the sign of the zodiac that deals with life, death, and rebirth issues. Mercury in Scorpio is keenly able to solve long-standing riddles and cleverly figure out “who dunnit plots.” We may also begin to get real clarity on those issues in our lives that may have been perplexing us for a while.

Mercury in Scorpio’s style tends to be “all or nothing.” When it examines something, it either gives it its full undivided attention or neglects it altogether.

Pioneering Mars in Resourceful Scorpio is also harmoniously trine Philosophical Jupiter in Pisces. This is, classically, a powerhouse aspect for social, religious, and political activism. We can make notable progress toward our goals and dreams today, and if there is something that we really “believe in,” this is the time to “go for it,” especially with the Moon in adventurous Aries.

The Sun in Relationship Libra is also in a more challenging quinqunx aspect to Quirky Uranus in Pisces. We could encounter some skeptics, or otherwise “oddball types” (Uranus) who want us to justify our actions to them. However, we shouldn’t let others derail or intimidate us now. Especially with Mars trine to Jupiter, “nothing’s gonna stop us now!”

Activities favored today: new beginnings, rebirth and renewal efforts, medical and scientific research, wills and estate matters, psychic development, spying and espionage, investigation, reviewing insurance matters, intimate sexual encounters, holistic healing, religion, social and political activism, treasure-hunting.

Quote for Today:

“Chase down your passion like it’s the last bus of the night.” Terri Guillemets

On October 20, 1968, former “First Lady” Jackie Kennedy weds wealthy Greek shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassis. Aristotle’s private island “Skorpios” in the Ionian Sea is the site for this historic event.

In Jackie’s and Aristotle’s “wedding chart” that day (time unknown for the service), Venus, the Goddess of Love and Marriage, was in Possessive Scorpio and in an “out-of-sign” sextile to Non-conforming Uranus in Marital Libra.  When Venus is aligned with Uranus we often see “unusual pairings” taking place.  Venus-Uranus is often “non-traditional” and tends to bring about alliances between very different kinds of persons.   When Frank Sinatra met Mia Farrow, for instance, he had Venus-Uranus prominent in his chart. Venus-Uranus craves excitement and embraces relationships that are “out of the norm.” Additionally, Paul McCartney met John Lennon when Venus-Uranus was exact in the heavens.  It can be an aspect of “sudden attraction.”

Interestingly, Jupiter, the traditional planet of “good fortune and abundance,” was also in a tight conjunction to Pluto. Pluto is associated with “mega-money,” especially when aligned with “lucky” and “expansive” Jupiter. Jupiter and Pluto were in Practical, Dutiful Virgo and harmonious to Sea-Faring Neptune in the sign of Joint Resources Scorpio (Aristotle’s wealth was from Neptunian-ruled shipping). It has been reported that a main reason Jackie married Aristotle was out of a need for privacy and security for her children, which would fit the practical, stabilizing Virgo-Scorpio energy.

Venus, at 29 degrees of Scorpio, was also separating from a Glamourizing, Idealistic conjunction with Neptune at 25 of Scorpio. With Venus-Neptune, there can be a lot of fantasy and make-believe at the core of the relationship, as Neptune is the ruler of our imagination and dreams. Venus-Neptune relationships are often hard to “see clearly,”  as Neptune characteristically looks at romance through “rose-colored glasses.” Venus-Neptune tends to “idolize the partner,” sees him or her as a “savior.” Venus-Neptune relationships can sometimes contain “martyrdom” elements to them as well, as Neptune often denotes ego-denying experiences. Sometimes, Venus-Neptune is indicative of marrying someone “on another wavelength.”

Also, in Jackie’s case, Venus-Neptune literally symbolized a “romance involving aspects of the sea,” as Aristotle made his livelihood from the sea.

Venus additionally was at an “anaretic degree” of Scorpio (meaning the last degree of a sign), which can signal a “sense of urgency” to the relationship and romance. (Too, in a few years, Jackie would later end up a “widow,” with Scorpio the sign of “transition.”)

Jackie, who was a proud, charismatic Leo with a Private Scorpio rising and an Adventurous Aries Moon, also had in her personal horoscope then, Stabilizing Saturn transiting at 21 degrees of Libra exactly trine to her natal Venus at 21 degrees of Gemini. Venus also rules her 7th house of marriage.  With Venus-Saturn, we often forge relationships with older individuals (which Saturn denotes) and often these relationships are based on security needs. Venus not only rules relationships it also rules money. Saturn was also getting ready to move into Jackie’s twelfth house of seclusion, a period when we often seek a “personal retreat” from the outside world.

Aristotle, an Ambitious Capricorn with a Travel-Happy Sagittarius Moon, had transiting Jupiter and Pluto in Virgo exactly trine to his natal Venus in Capricorn in his horoscope when he married Jackie.  Venus-Pluto can represent a “transforming passion” in our lives, and it sometimes synonymous with “bringing us our soulmate.” (Pluto denotes past lives.)

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Domestic Moon remains in Divinity-Seeking Pisces. We are wanting to embark down those insightful roads that will lead us back to our soul’s “original home.”

With Mental Mercury in Peace-Keeping Libra quinqunx to Erratic Uranus, however, which is also positioned in Mystical Pisces, we may be a little unsure about which roads are really the “right roads to go down,” to ensure our soul’s sacred journey.

At the end of the day, The Balanced Libra Sun harmoniously trine to Spiritual Neptune in Futuristic Aquarius, beseeches us “not to worry.” The Sun-Neptune wisdom serenely purports to us that eventually “all paths lead to the same door,” and that all we need to remember is that “we are all one.”

Activities favored today: random acts of kindness, writing poetry, music, songs, prayer, meditation, theater, acting, experimenting with make-up, decorating, collecting seashells, befriending fishes, absconding with enlightened mermaids.

Quote For Today:

“By faithfulness we are collected and wound up into unity within ourselves, whereas we had been scattered abroad in multiplicity.” Saint Augustine

On This Date In History:

October 19, 1983: The U.S. Senate establishes Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday. Very notable here then was Pioneering Mars in Analytical Virgo in a tight square to Philosophical Jupiter in Highly Principled Sagittarius, the sign that Jupiter naturally rules.  Mars-Jupiter tends to “fire up” our idealism (Jupiter) and makes us want to go to war (Mars) for what we believe in (Jupiter). It is traditionally associated with political and social activism.

I also blogged the other day here how sometimes, too, Mars-Jupiter aspects are associated with “religious fanaticism,” as Jupiter also rules religion and Mars adds fuel and passion to that body of beliefs.  We always need to be careful with Mars-Jupiter that we don’t go overboard, as Jupiter tends to excessive behavior anyway, and on the shadow side, can additionally make us somewhat arrogant and cocksure that we alone hold the truth.

Additionally, Jupiter was separating from a conjunction to Equality-Ruling Uranus, which was also in the sign of Higher Beliefs Sagittarius. Uranus, ruling matters involving groups and the collective, characteristically delivers to us sudden insights and awareness, and in Sagittarius, these insights can help to shape our moral beliefs and behavior. Jupiter-Uranus tends to take us out of our normal belief set and allows us to feel more comfortable with or embrace non-traditional ideas, shatters some of Jupiter’s “moral superiority” notion.

We also presently have Jupiter and Uranus conjunct now in Idealistic Pisces, a sign that Jupiter co-rules with Neptune. Equality and humanitarian issues are emphasized with this conjunction and just last week, we had the federal judge striking down the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy, which had been in place in the military for almost two decades.

Another cool parallel to today was the Justice-Seeking Libra Sun then was exactly sextile to Compassionate Neptune which was also in Sagittarius. Today we have the Libra Sun trine Neptune in Brotherly Aquarius, a very similar aspect. Neptune is our link to the Divine and represents a state of consciousness in which “we are all one,” our personal borders and boundaries are dissolved.  Our compassion and humanity are stoked and we realize that we are all in this together. On Sun-Neptune days we become more preoccupied with our unity versus our differences. Therefore, we are more likely to espouse a a political philosophy of “inclusion,”  even on Capitol Hill.

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Moon leaves All-Business Capricorn for Friendly, Progressive-Minded Aquarius (10:24 am EDT).  We may want to relax our formality a little, be a bit more impromptu. Aquarius welcomes “deviations from the norm.”

Also, it behooves us to be willing to take time out of our busy schedules today to extend a helpful hand to our fellow colleagues and comrades. With the Aquarius Moon, the emphasis is “less about us” and “more about others.” We may also want to keep in mind now that being willing to stand up for the causes we believe in, is how we can best affect the kind of change that we are wanting to see around us.

Quote for the day:

“A friend knows the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails.” Donna Roberts

On This Date In History:

October 15, 1969 – The “Vietnam Moratorium” is held.  Millions of people protest the war. In the heavens, Warrior Mars in Capricorn, the sign of government, is exactly square to Philosophical Jupiter in Libra, the sign of peace and diplomacy.

“Mars-Jupiter” is an aspect with a great history of “firing up our passions and idealism.” Mars energizes whatever it touches and Jupiter represents our moral beliefs.  We are willing to “do combat” (Mars) for “what we believe in” now (Jupiter), similar to the energy of today’s Aquarius Moon which speaks to us about getting involved in causes “greater than ourselves.” With the Vietnam Moratorium, the protesters peacefully dissented (diplomatic Libra) against the “war policies”of the government (Mars in Capricorn).

Often Mars-Jupiter is associated with “religious fanaticism,” too, as Jupiter rules religion, and the nature of  Jupiter is such (especially when it is aligned with energizer Mars) that we can easily “go overboard” and get “carried away” with whatever we are involved with. Even though Jupiter is an “expansive influence,” and more of a “benevolent planet,” sometimes the pitfall with it is we do not know when to “rein ourselves in.” For example, Jupiter is also associated with obesity and excess. We can’t stop with just “one jelly doughnut,” we have to consume a whole dozen! So, moderation is often needed and called for with Jupiter, if we are going to utilize the energies of this great planet to the best capacity.

Patricia’s Astrology Horoscope October 12, 2010: The Preacher Moon

COSMIC WEATHER:

With the Preacher Moon in Sagittarius we’re wanting to evangelize and proselytize others to our way of thinking, and that’s probably fine and acceptable, to a certain degree. But we could experience some awkward fallout here, with the Moon’s square to Inflated Jupiter (4:16 pm EDT), especially if we convey an air of too much self-righteousness from behind the pulpit.

Later, our emotional mood turns more rebellious with both the Moon’s square to Freedom-Loving Uranus (8:08 pm EDT) and Love Maven Venus’ 135-degree aspect to this same planet (10:10 pm EDT).

With Venus-Uranus, we’re more inclined to “walk on the wild side.” Our tastes and desires often become more “non-traditional.”

On the shadow side, Uranus is perennially the “problem-child” that goads us on to impulsively “break the rules,” often without serious regard for the consequences. No coincidence, I guess, that Venus-Uranus is a “classic divorce aspect,” as relationships usually require certain set protocol to succeed over time. Venus-Uranus is often unwilling to make that kind of day-in, day-out commitment because it doesn’t like to feel hemmed in.

On this day in history:

On October 12, 1901, President Theodore Roosevelt renames “Executive Mansion,” “The White House.” On that day, there was a New Moon at 18 degrees of  Decorative Libra, a sign known for proper social protocol and decorum. (New Moons signal new beginnings.) Both the Sun and Moon were also harmoniously trine Transformer Pluto at 18 degrees of Gemini. Pluto’s ray is often associated with “historic firsts” and “sweeping changes.”  Gemini also governs speech, communication and descriptive words and phrases. So, it’s kind of cool how this name change came about with Pluto’s “recasting energy” so prominent here, on top of Fashionable Libra’s intrinsic desire and need to want to “dress things up.”

Quote For The Day:

“One filled with joy preaches without preaching.” Mother Teresa

Today’s Affirmation:

“May my deeds seed a glorious garden of hope for others. And my words abolish the weeds of despair.”

“Real love is when you become selfless and you are more concerned about your mate’s or children’s egos than our your own.  You’re now a giver instead of a taker.” Sylvester Stallone

Moon continues in Peace-Loving Libra, alongside Planet of Desire, Mars, which is still harmoniously trined to Spiritual Neptune in Brotherly Love Aquarius. The Libra Moon is also trining Fantasy Neptune (11:57 pm EDT). Evangelizing Jupiter in Holy Pisces is conjunct Rogue Uranus.

Ideally now, we are seeking to connect with others in a more selfless way, mainly due to the activation of “Mars-Neptune,” which can do much to stoke our idealism and compassion for others. At its most noble expression, this planetary energy is best used to perform charitable work and “random acts of kindness.” Mars-Neptune also gives a tendency to sublimate our physical desires (Mars rule sex).

One pitfall with Mars-Neptune is the need to guard against self-delusion. Specifically here: Seeing ourselves as a “savior” to others, which can have dangerous ramifications for our egos and also for the people “we are saving.” Or, another manifestation of this energy: We can encounter someone wanting to assume the “savior role” in our lives. (In my household, my little shihtzu seems to want to naturally wear this hat.)

Historically, whenever the more “destabilizing” or “delusional” side of Neptune’s ray is activated, we often see more in the way of what could be described as “religious fanaticism” or “extremist views”  manifesting, as Neptune has to do with spirituality and or the desire to merge with the divine or non-physical aspects of reality.

Too, there is always the risk, with any of our religious convictions, I guess, that they may periodically sprout on the more “bizarre side.” We simply get “too carried away” and lose sight of the more practical considerations of the “real world.” Or, for that matter, we simply don’t care what happens, we’re so “mesmerized” by our beliefs.  Plus, we feel we have license, “from above,” to do whatever we want.

This “extremism” also seems to be the case,  at least, with that pastor in Florida, of a tiny congregation, who was calling for the “burning of Korans” on September 11th. He has since canceled the event, in the face of heavy opposition, including pressure from the White House to call it off.

Mars is the “planet of war,” and with “Mars-Neptune” activated, we can feel galvanized to take aggressive action on our religious views. There’s certainly nothing wrong with standing up for one’s beliefs. What is often distressing and offensive, however, is the amount of intolerance that often seems to go “hand-in-hand” with the taking of these kinds of individual stands. Of course, it does not have to be this way, either. We can always choose to be tolerant.

Too, what makes this Mars-Neptune energy even more potent now, is the intense Jupiter and Uranus conjunction in Spiritual Pisces (which is also part of the ongoing T-Square with controlling Pluto and ambitious Saturn). Expansive Jupiter (which co-rules Pisces with Neptune) intrinsically tends to make us want to evangelize or convert others to our way of thinking anyway, and paired with loose cannon, rebel Uranus, who often wants to be a “law unto himself,” we can easily go overboard with carrying out our agendas. This would definitely be the “shadow-side” of Jupiter-Uranus.

Also, it’s just interesting how religion is dominating the headlines now, with all this stuff going on above us, isn’t it? It has also, predictably, even made it to the late night shows with comedians.

One other thing worth noting  here: John Lennon made his famous “off-the-cuff” comment about the Beatles being “more popular than Jesus,” when Mars was square Neptune.  That remark, which John later said was also ‘misconstrued,’ also set off a firestorm of criticism and led to some people, particularly in the southern United States, burning Beatles’ albums in the 60s, as well as radio stations banning their music. (So we see with John’s remark “about a savior,” there was somewhat of a variation on the Mars-Neptune energy that I described above. Too, maybe John was being delusional, thinking the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. Although, maybe at the time, he was just simply telling the truth as he saw it, as the Beatles were really popular.  He claimed afterwards that he never meant any offense to anyone’s religious views, and I believe him. I also mentioned in my blog yesterday that John Lennon had Mars conjunct Neptune, in his natal horoscope, so he did maybe see himself “as a savior” in many ways. And, in some ways, to many people, perhaps John “was a savior.”)
