Cosmic Weather:

“Your mind is like a gold mine, if you dig deep, you will find something golden.” Gift Gugu Mona

With the Sun still deposited in the early degrees of fast-forwarding Aries, there’s plenty of desire now to see it all, do it all, to make it all happen. At the same time, however, the Moon’s passage through tunneling Scorpio also gives us the inclination to scale deeper with things, to probe, to investigate (for maybe combing through the newly-completed Mueller report? The report was released with the Aries Sun exactly conjunct wounded healer Chiron!).

Additionally, the Scorpio Moon can serve to awaken our passions. It’s often said that uncovering what we’re passionate about in life, and engaging in those passions on a regular basis, often goes a long way in determining the quality of our life. In other words, there’s seemingly a lot of power in passion. In having something to do that fills us with joy. That makes us lose track of time. I enjoy blogging here because it gives me a sense of purpose. Makes me feel more alive in the morning, which at my age, is quite an accomplishment! 🙂 What often trips me up with the blogging, though, and maybe you can relate, is when I inject the self-critical or judgmental piece into the equation. I’ll write something that I think is okay at the time, but a few minutes later, when I re-read it, I’ll suddenly hate it, and will want to strike the darn thing from the face of the earth! Probably part of the whole dark, sick Scorpio birth, death, rebirth thing! But hey, it’s all good! It’s how we presumably learn and grow.

On this Day in History: On March 23, 1945, the Battle of Okinawa occurred. US Navy ships bomb the Japanese island of Okinawa in preparation for the Allied invasion. It would become the largest battle of the Pacific War during World War II. In the sky on that fateful day, the Sun was in confrontational Aries, the sign of the military, and exactly opposite the Chiron and Neptune midpoint in Libra. The Sun was also applying to a square to Saturn in Cancer; Saturn was also squaring both Chiron and Neptune. Mars, the ruler of war, was also at 29 degrees of Aquarius, a critical degree.

Astrology May 2, 2011: “Mission Accomplished!” Mars Conjunct Jupiter in Aries

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Justice has been done.” President Barack Obama (quote taken from his announcement, late yesterday, that Osama Bin Laden had been killed).

Mission accomplished! Nearly ten years after the 9/11 terror attack, a small team of U.S. forces (Navy Seals) raided a compound in Pakistan yesterday and reportedly killed Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind 9/11.Warrior Mars was exactly conjunct “lucky” Jupiter, the planet of opportunity, in military-ruling Aries, something that we have only had about two or three times in the last hundred years in this sign. (BTW, one of those times occurred back on January 6, 1940, during WWII, when General Semyon Suomussalmi was made head of all the Russian forces, a major shift in military command at the time.)

We also had a stellium of six planets (also referring here to the Moon as a planet) in fighter Aries yesterday, another rarity that we won’t have again for at least a dozen or more years. Of course, having such a heavy emphasis in Aries always ups the ante, potentially, for “military-type showdowns.” We continue to have five planets in Aries until May 11th. (Too, the day before this raid, there was the high-profile, unfortunate loss of life in Libya when the NATO strike force killed Moammar Gadhafi’s youngest son and three grandchildren, which garnered worldwide attention. That day, we also had Venus opposite Saturn, an aspect often associated with separation and sorrow.)

I have been blogging here the last few days about this special “Mars-Jupiter” aspect and how it tends to coincide with the occurrence of more singular, large-scale, high-profile events taking place in the collective (the Royal Wedding and the beatification of John Paul II; Jupiter also rules royalty, religion and clergy). Jupiter, the expansive urge, tends to magnify the size and scope of everything. Mars (the ruler of the aggressive urge and soldiers) generally serves to energize or “fire up” whatever it is aligned with. With these two forces merged together in “militaristic” Aries, Osama Bin Laden, the “most wanted person” on the planet, is finally captured and killed. A gargantuan (Jupiter) feat by any standard.

The Mars-Jupiter energy perennially tends to fuel our self-confidence and is additionally associated with risk-taking and adventure, especially in bravado Aries. Aries is also a zodiacal sign that is linked with “historic firsts,” “record-setting” and “discoveries.” Osama Bin Laden’s demise is also surely a huge (Jupiter) boost for the psyche of the U.S. armed forces (Mars). Already some are calling it a “game changer.”

Yesterday, in my blog, too, I mentioned that on, an individual level, this very dynamic influence gave us a marvelous, rare chance to “reinvent ourselves,” with Aries ruling our “self-identity” and “self-discovery.” Of course, viewing Aries on more of a collective level, as the sign of the military, this same aspect could be regarded as a favorable time to “reinvent,” or at least “retool,” the perception of the U.S. armed forces. Mars-Jupiter also coinciding here, of course, with the successful military raid on the compound where Osama had been hiding.

Also heard on the news today that President Obama gave the orders for the raid on Friday, when we had the illuminating Sun in Taurus harmoniously trined to Pluto in Capricorn. “Master Spy” Pluto, as ruler of secretive Scorpio, is associated with detection, investigation, and ferreting out hidden information. It denotes “hidden forces” and also “terrorism” and extremist activities. With Sun trine Pluto, we often are privy to finding out about clandestine affairs and plots. It can also often be a very transforming, regenerating (Pluto) influence, with Pluto ruling both death and rebirth. The Sun also represents world leaders and presidents. Capricorn, too, rules government.

Were you surprised to hear about Osama Bin Laden’s death? Did you ever think that he would someday be caught?

Astrology April 1, 2011: “Time of Transition” Mars and Moon at End of Pisces

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It’s the transition that’s troublesome.” Isaac Asimov.

This is the last day for energizer Mars in watery, reflective Pisces (enters Aries, the sign of its rulership, 12:51 am EDT Sat.) Also, this is the last full day for the emotional Moon in Pisces, as it also shifts into fiery, enterprising Aries tomorrow (7:17 am EDT), a time when the “pace of life” could dramatically quicken for many of us. The Moon and Mars will be joining the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus in Aries.

Also, whenever Mars changes signs, we always want to pay closer attention to events in the world, as Mars can signal pivotal changes for the matters associated with the zodiacal sign it is entering (Mars provides momentum). For instance, when Mars entered Pisces this last time on February 23rd, is when oil prices suddenly started to surge. Pisces rules oil. Aries is more “confronting-type” energy associated with conflict and war (rules the military and law enforcement). Aries also rules adventure, record-setting and pioneering new territory. It additionally governs athletes and sports.

Too, we have a New Moon in Aries on Sunday, with New Moons signifying “new beginnings” and with it occurring in Aries, the official sign of “new beginnings,” we are effectively getting a “double-whammy” here. Assertive Mars will also be conjuncting unpredictable, wild card Uranus in Aries on Saturday, a planet also known for liberation and discovery, which is a good fit for the similar Aries-type energy it is deposited in.

Needless to say, today we are on the brink of a very highly-charged energy pattern, perhaps the most intense of the year. Aries is all about initiating action and propelling ourselves and our world forward, often at warp speed.

Today, we may want to use this “transitional” Piscean energy to make sure that we have all of our players ready for bat and have a clear idea of how we want to pitch this new Aries ballgame. In line with this, we will want to be putting the finishing touches on our intentions now to be released at the Aries New Moon this weekend.

“You don’t save a pitcher for tomorrow. Tomorrow it may rain.” Leo Durocher

Astrology March 21, 2011: Reform or Revolution? Sun conjunct Uranus in Aries

COSMIC WEATHER:

“A reform is a correction of abuses; a revolution is a transfer of power.” Robert Bulwer-Lytton

Well, now that we know the fine distinction between these two things, reform and revolution, it may be that we see a bit of both of these occurring today as the “big cheese” Sun conjuncts “liberating” Uranus, the sometimes quirky, and often unruly, “rebel stepchild” of the Universe.

“Change-agent” Uranus also tends to be  “unpredictable” in nature, so it’s hard to ever know exactly what he has up his sleeve. It’s probably best for us to just prime ourselves for the “unexpected” today, and hope it will be “very good” unexpected stuff that develops in our lives.

Uranus can bring about sudden amazing breakthroughs and advances, especially of a more scientific or technological nature. This is especially the case in pioneering Aries, a sign also known for “firsts.” At any rate, a very good day to consider instituting new procedures or processes in our lives to make them more efficient. BTW, Uranus is formally associated with “genius.” Maybe all of our “IQ’s” will effectively get a boost today. Too, this is not a good day to resist change, as it could be a lost cause for us with wacky Uranus breathing down our necks, holding us captive. 🙂

This powerhouse Sun-Uranus pairing is also occurring in “don’t fence me in” Aries, the macho sign of war and the military. Of course, many of us already know what is presently unfolding in Libya with the international coalition forces enacting a no-fly zone over that country. Heard on the Wall Street Journal Radio this morning (love their early morning news program) that there is also reportedly some concern that Moammar Qadhafi could resort to terrorism, at some point, even use mustard gas.

Too, more unrest is again brewing in other areas of the Middle East. (We also have Mercury and Jupiter in Aries.) Ever since expansive Jupiter got into Aries, late January, is when the political activism and social unrest in the Middle East started heating up (also had warrior Mars in group-oriented Aquarius setting the tone then. Mars rules Aries.).

Aries also rules sports. Today, the long-awaited Barry Bonds‘ perjury trial is slated to begin, three years after Bonds was charged with lying to a federal grand jury when he denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs. One thing’s for certain about “high-voltage” Sun-Uranus: It is never a boring aspect!

“Never be afraid to sit awhile and think.” Lorraine Hansberry

COSMIC WEATHER:

Mental Mercury exits practical, conservative Capricorn for more rebellious and unorthodox Aquarius (5:19 pm EST) where it joins the Sun, Moon, Mars, Neptune and Chiron. Aquarius is futuristic, eccentric, innovative, detached, and objective, so with thinker Mercury here, in this sign, our reasoning tends to be more progressive, original, and logical. We are more open to new ways of looking at things, as well as entertaining opposing viewpoints. Too, Mercury in Aquarius often likes to play the devil’s advocate. Additionally, Aquarius is a fixed sign, so there still can be some stubbornness to the mental qualities, as well as an argumentative streak. Mercury stays in Aquarius until February 21st.

Also, we still have the volatile Sun-Mars conjunction, again in group-oriented Aquarius, which will finally be exact tomorrow (11:40 am EST). Of course, as many of us know, Mars does rule the aggressive urge. Unfortunately, we saw events in Egypt suddenly turn violent on Wednesday. Several journalists were reportedly even attacked by pro-Mubarak forces in Cairo, including CNN’s Anderson Cooper who was beaten ten times in the head, according to news accounts. Cooper’s injuries were later described as “not serious.”

Sun conjunct Mars is always potentially an explosive aspect, that is why we want to try to rein in our more animalistic impulses with it. Too, it’s certainly okay to vent, and often with this Sun-Mars influence, we may very well need to vent, or clear the air. Also, in some instances with Sun-Mars, we are “forced to act” or “take a stand” to defend ourselves. But, of course, we still always have the choice to rise above using physical force, unless it is a situation where our very lives are at stake. Mars does represent the urge for survival and the need for defense.  On the positive side, Sun-Mars can be very good for physically invigorating work, exercise and competitive sports, and for taking initiative. It tends to elevate our self-confidence. And, our courage. It can be a great aspect for self-discovery. Historically, on a collective basis, Sun-Mars has correlated with breakthroughs, new discoveries and advancements.

“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is that little voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow.” Mary Anne Radmacher.

“It is easier to live life through someone else than to become complete yourself.” Betty Friedan

COSMIC WEATHER:

The industrious, capable Capricorn Moon sagely advises us to invest in ourselves. To grow our abilities. Perfect our skills. So that we may make a worthwhile contribution to the collective, while also mastering the art of self-reliance.

Too, don’t we all like applause and praise? A pat on the back for a job well done? With the Moon’s square to “withholding” Saturn (5:40 pm EST), it could be that we may have to be our own cheering section today. That others may not take notice, or comment favorably on our achievements. Are we okay with that?

Also, the powerful Sun and warrior Mars continue their tight conjunction in change-oriented Aquarius, an invigorating, but more volatile aspect that has been around for several days. This aspect will be exact on Friday. This influence tends to fires us up. Makes us more predisposed to restructuring or altering our world (Aquarius). We are much more amenable to trying out new methods and procedures, even though we still have planets and the Moon in traditionalist Capricorn.

Of course, we have also been witnessing the chaos and political upheaval in Egypt, this past week, while this potent Sun-Mars aspect has been in effect. Thousands of people have been injured and reportedly over 100 persons killed.

Mars rules the aggressive urge (war), and the Sun, through the conjunction, is fueling that urge. Aquarius is also the sign that rules “group expression,” with Mars energizing that expression now. Sun-Mars in Aquarius can be viewed as “power for the people.” Aquarius is a sign of freedom and reform. Aquarius puts the needs of the collective, over the needs of individuals. Diverse factions unite to rally for their causes. Also, in the horoscope for modern Egypt, transiting Uranus (the ruler of Aquarius) at 27 degrees of Pisces is exactly square to the 27 degree natal Gemini Sun, suggesting an overhaul (Uranus) of the leadership (Sun). Too, demonstrations are planned in other countries in the Middle East in the coming days.

Expansive Jupiter is also now in Mars-ruled Aries. It will be there for the next few months. Jupiter in Aries can be personally liberating for many of us, in that it can endow us with a greater sense of self-confidence (Aries) and less fear, resulting in personal growth and the seizing of new opportunities. It can, however, simultaneously be a more potentially combative placement for us, in that we are often more willing to fight (Aries) or stand up for our beliefs (Jupiter). Aries is very courageous and brave. It is the sign of action, sometimes militant action. Sometimes overly impulsive, hasty action. Mars rules soldiers and the military, and vigilantism.

Patricia’s Astrology: October 15, 1969 “The Vietnam Moratorium”

On This Date In History:

October 15, 1969 – The “Vietnam Moratorium” is held.  Millions of people protest the war (including Bill Clinton, who was a student at Oxford then). In the heavens, passionate “Warrior” Mars in Capricorn, the sign of government, is exactly square to “Philosophical” Jupiter in Libra, the sign of peace and diplomacy.

“Mars-Jupiter” is an aspect with a great history of “firing up our passions and idealism.” Mars, the energy planet, energizes whatever it touches and Jupiter represents our moral beliefs.  We are willing to “do combat” (Mars) for “what we believe in” now (Jupiter), similar to the energy of today’s Aquarius Moon which speaks to us about getting involved in causes “greater than ourselves.” With the Vietnam Moratorium, the protesters peacefully dissented (diplomatic Libra) against the “war policies”of the government (Mars in Capricorn). Mars rules war and the military.

Often Mars-Jupiter is associated with “religious fanaticism,” too, as Jupiter rules religion, and the nature of  Jupiter is such (especially when it is aligned with energizer Mars) that we can easily “go overboard” and get “carried away” with whatever we are involved with.

Even though Jupiter is an “expansive influence,” and more of a “benevolent planet,” sometimes the pitfall with it is we do not know when to “rein ourselves in.” For example, Jupiter is also associated with obesity and excess. We can’t stop with just “one jelly doughnut,” we have to consume a whole dozen! So, moderation is often needed and called for with Jupiter, if we are going to judiciously utilize the opportunity energies of this great planet to the best capacity.

“I see my path, but I don’t know where it leads.  Not knowing where I’m going is what inspires me to travel it.” – Rosalia de Castro

The Moon in Sagittarius resonates to the inner explorer in each of us today. And, with Uranus now crossed over into the new frontiers’ territory of Aries, new desires are beckoning us.  Old dreams are rekindled.

In current news:

The U.S. House voted Thursday to let the Defense Department repeal the ban on gay and bisexual people from serving in the military, potentially a big step toward ending the 1993 ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ law.

This vote came with liberator Uranus – the planet associated with social equality – at the tail end of Pisces.  Pisces is a compassionate sign that is often linked with civil rights issues. Too, with change-agent Uranus now in Aries, it’s possible that we see big changes with the military, which Aries rules.

Enjoy your Friday!

Astrology April 18, 2010: Saturn Square Neptune – Sainthood for Joan of Arc

Catholic church, daily astrology, Joan of Arc, Joan of Arc declared a saint, Neptune in Cancer, Neptune rules spirituality, Saturn in Aries, Saturn square Neptune, war

Cosmic Watch:

Joan of Arc reportedly believed she was “handpicked by God” to lead the army of France in battles with England.  Although she felt war was part of her calling, she did not carry a weapon on the battlefield, as she reportedly did not want to hurt anyone. She only carried a banner.

Joan of Arc was declared a saint by the Catholic Church on April 18, 1909.  At the time, Saturn, the planet associated with protocol and recognition, was in Aries, the sign which pertains to combat/the military/self-defense.  It was also in exact alignment (square) to Neptune in Cancer. Neptune is thought to represent our “link to the Divine” and governs all matters spiritual, while Cancer symbolizes the nurturing principle and represents home, family, patriotism, and our roots.

Seemingly quite fittingly then, the “Saturn-Neptune” influence manifested in such a way that day that Joan of Arc, a past war figure (Saturn in Aries) was formally bestowed a religious status/sainthood (Neptune) by the Catholic Church.
