The cosmic atmosphere is highly-charged today! Action-planet Mars, in Scorpio, is in opposition to erratic, freedom-loving Uranus (12:23 pm), the awakener, which is retrograde in the sign of Taurus the bull. While there can be sudden, liberating breakthroughs that can help us to leapfrog over obstacles or stalemates, there’s also the possibility that the results that come in now may be quite different than what we may have been expecting. This may especially be the case when we are operating reactively or largely on impulse. That is why it’s very important that we remain true to ourselves now, and our core values and goals, and not allow ourselves or our actions to be hijacked by the intensity or volatility of the moment. Remember, brakes are there for a reason: to use them! Typically, too, when these two highly-combustible planets pair up we usually want to exercise more caution for our physical safety or welfare, particularly when we are working around mechanical objects, operating equipment, or driving.

Today, guys, we may want to make sure that our highly fashionable “thinking caps” are firmly planted on our pointy, little, egg-shaped heads, from the get-go, as we’re more than likely to be visited by an “invasion of brilliance” that will be hovering around us for only a very finite period of time now; at best, for just a few days.
It may also be very prudent now, too, if we really try not to sneeze or sigh too heavily – for fear of chasing away these rare, sensitive, whatchamacallit “invisible entities” who are, no doubt, trying to cleverly zoom in on us from above. Impinge upon our delicate, impressionable psyches. Lasso us in with their exacting precision, so as to bestow upon us a seeming bevy of “higher offerings,” presumably from the hierarchy or top-dogs of the “galactic think tank,” located somewhere sketchy, but definitely in the vicinity of the Great Beyond! 🙂
Seriously, expansive Jupiter trining innovative Uranus (2:01 pm), has a legacy of coinciding with flashes of brilliance, breakthrough understandings, colossal perspective shifts. This is excellent, electrifying energy for reconfiguring or re-arranging the ever cryptic puzzle pieces of our remarkable lives so as to potentially allow for more personal freedom and authenticity of self-expression. Ideally enabling us to more fully, and more unabashedly, “do our own thing!”
Exciting advances, movements, shifts may also be occurring now, correspondingly, in the collective at large (which is also ruled by Uranus) that helps to thrust all of us forward, as a people, into a better, brighter tomorrow. For instance, When Jupiter and Uranus were exactly conjunct in Libra on July 20, 1969, is when we had the first manned space mission landing on the Moon (Apollo 11)!
Both Jupiter and Uranus are very futuristic in nature. Jupiter, governing our beliefs, our understanding, our higher vision is always wanting to include more of the wondrous world into its grand orbit. Uranus, with its own quirky, peculiar motion in outer space, relishes its role as being the odd planet (odd person) out. It also represents change itself or defying the status quo (Saturn).
Uranus also symbolizes individuality, intuition, elements of genius, and the tech industry. Jupiter and Uranus paired up ideally provide us with a promising chance to grow our world, as possibly never before, in ways we may have never even imagined, until now.
What’s also nice is that transiting Jupiter in Capricorn and Uranus RX in Taurus are both in practical earth signs, so we’re dealing with more solid, grounded energy that can generate tangible longlasting results in the real world. Now is a time to plant important seeds that will gradually grow, over time (Jupiter in Capricorn), into a bountiful harvest (hope springs eternal here)! Even taking small actions now can have very positive consequences for us, down the road, if we but keep tilling the soil.
We also want to, of course, take note of where we have these two planets moving through our personal charts (in what houses), as those are the specific areas of our life that are poised for cutting-edge, expansive developments or growth. Where we also need to do our part and enlist “out-of-the-box” thinking and strategies. Deliberately doing things up differently than before, as the old methods just won’t cut it anymore. New inspiration is what’s needed or required of us now.
Today’s trine is also the first time that Uranus in Taurus has been aspected by a major planet since it ingressed into Taurus, back in mid-May of 2018. So we may also be getting a real flavor or inkling now of what Uranus means for us, both individually and collectively, in the sign of the bull. How it is, perhaps, impacting, possibly shaking up, our money-consciousness, our values, our habits, our sense of stewardship of our own personal resources as well as the resources of Mother Earth. Again, the focus here, with all of these things, is on innovation, or on improving upon what has come before.
“The vast majority of human beings dislike and even actually dread all notions with which they are not familiar… Hence it comes about that at their first appearance innovators have generally been persecuted, and always derided as fools and madmen.” Aldous Huxley

COSMIC WATCH:
We begin the day with the Moon void-of-course in “sensitive” Cancer. The Moon enters “entertaining” Leo at 6:34 pm.
Mercury in Aquarius sextiles Uranus in Aries at 10:55 am. It opposes Jupiter in Leo at 4:15 pm.
Don’t you just love those days when, what you’ve been struggling to learn or know, all of a sudden “makes a grand appearance” in your life, and you’re no longer left “stumbling in the dark,” so to speak? Those “appearances,” commonly referred to as “light bulb moments,” are often synonymous with Mercury-Uranus alignments, with Mercury governing our reasoning and thinking abilities, and Uranus symbolizing our brilliance, genius, or intuition.
Also, the Mercury-Jupiter opposition can make us hungry for higher meaning, understanding, wanting to share our beliefs and views with others, as well as wanting to perhaps investigate such areas as religion, philosophy, and the teachings of other cultures. It is also an aspect that is linked with voluminous writing, publishing, traveling, expansive conversation (chattiness, too), public speaking, promotion or advertising. To attain knowledge, add things everyday. “A key ingredient in innovation is the ability to challenge authority and break rules.” Vivek Wadhwa
COSMIC WATCH:
There’s a major shift in energy, today, as Mars, the planet of action and desire (also symbolizing the military, sports, and law enforcement) moves into “innovative” Aquarius (6:57 pm EST), the Water Bearer, where it will stay until January 12. Aquarius, a fixed, air sign, is ruled by “radical” Uranus, the planet that’s associated with genius, change, technology, and the unexpected. Those born under the sign of Aquarius tend to enthusiastically embrace the “road less traveled.” They may also have more of an interest in humanitarian, political, or social causes, and may seek to make the world a better place by deliberately questioning or challenging the established order of things. They’re also usually brimming over with new or original ideas for supplanting or replacing the existing status quo.
Accordingly, Mars transiting Aquarius, for the next few weeks, sets into play a possible scenario in which we’re more receptive to experimentation, or more comfortable departing from the “tried and true,” conventional approaches when it comes to pursuing our goals, or whatever it is that we want for ourselves. Mars in Aquarius is also excellent for helping us actually develop more “out-of-the-box” strategies for dealing with our lives, or the situations that we find ourselves in, as Aquarius is an intellectual air sign that tends to have more of an affinity for abstract reasoning, or detached thinking. Aquarius is also, perhaps, the best sign placement for Mars for seeding sudden, pivotal breakthroughs in things.
Too, Mars in Aquarius can incline some of us to want to take a more active stance on some of the larger social issues circulating around the collective, now, particularly, perhaps, those issues pertaining to the preservation or enhancement of individual rights or freedoms, and matters involving equality or diversity, which Uranus represents. Aquarius also specifically symbolizes individual expression within the context of a group setting. Also, even those of us who choose not to become outwardly involved in any causes, now, will likely find that we at least have a growing awareness of some of the dynamics, or root causes, that are fueling or fomenting these issues.
Of course, around the world, we have seen an escalation in protest movements, globally, ever since Uranus and Pluto first started squaring off with each other, over two years ago, something that also happened back in the 1960s in the U.S. when these two planets were also conjunct. Too, this month, around mid-December, the Uranus and Pluto square will be exact again, for a sixth time – although, we’re already, essentially, feeling the energy of that square. Additionally, Uranus is going to be stationing direct, on the 20th of December. At that same time, Mars in Aquarius will be exactly sextiling Uranus! While I’ll be mentioning more on all of this, later, suffice it to say, in the interim, that the Uranus-Pluto energy is, once again, attuning us to what’s broken, decaying, or outworn around us, and also, perhaps, pointing the way as to what needs to possibly be erected in its place.
A shadow side of Mars entry in Aquarius is that it can make us a little more erratic, or uneven, in how we apply our energies. Mars here can also, sometimes, be a disruptive force in the sense that we may be too overeager to overturn things without first having a solid type of infrastructure in place. Also, on the shadow side, Mars in Aquarius can occasionally translate into our being more willful or stubborn, especially when we don’t get our way.
Also, today, the Sun in “adventurous” Sagittarius is rolling out a welcome mat for Mars entry into Aquarius in the guise of its trine to Uranus in Aries (5:30 pm EST), usually a type of day when we can really sense that “change is in the air.”

COSMIC WATCH:
Yesterday, we had the New Moon in Libra, giving us a chance to reset things on the relationship front. Today, the Moon continues in “relational” Libra and it is joined by a dynamic fire trine from “expansive” Jupiter in Leo to “innovative” Uranus in Aries (2:19 pm EDT). This 120-degree trine aspect is the first of three official meet-ups between Jupiter and Uranus that will be concluding in June of next year, as Jupiter soon begins to move retrograde, back through Leo. The present Jupiter-Uranus influence will continue to be felt, for the next few days.
Whenever Jupiter and Uranus align there’s always the bright prospect that nearly anything is possible, as “optimistic” Jupiter, governing our beliefs and personal philosophy, enlarges whatever it touches, and when it’s aligned with “out of the box” thinker Uranus, the planet of change, technology, genius, and intuition, we will often experience or witness sudden breakthroughs in consciousness, that serve to upend or supplant our limited belief systems and fears. Also, events can occur, both individually and collectively, that end up radically changing or altering our way of life, along with our views or ideas of what’s possible for us to achieve, as a people.
For example, when the Apollo 11 spacecraft landed the first humans – Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin – on the Moon, on July 20, 1969, Jupiter and Uranus were exactly conjunct at 0 degrees of Libra! Neil Armstrong would later become the first person to step on the Moon, a few hours later, on July 21 – an electrifying and memorable experience for everyone watching it on their TV. Mars also happened to be in the long-distance travel sign of Sagittarius then, where it is today. Too, for those of us who were alive, back then, the Moon landing was not only a spectacular breakthrough in space travel – it was also a huge game-changer in our overall perceptions of “outer space,” as a realistic, doable new frontier for humans to gallantly explore.
Also, when entrepreneur and inventor Steve Jobs was born, Jupiter and Uranus were in a close conjunction in the sign of Cancer. In retrospect, a potent marker in the development of the new “information age,” with the internet also poised to become yet another great frontier for curious earthlings to investigate. Many, of course, regard Steve Jobs as the greatest inventor of our age – with “inventing” a Uranus-ruled profession. He is reportedly listed on Google Patents as the primary or co-inventor of over 240 patents – perhaps a testament, also, to the “prolific” nature of Jupiter’s influence here. The following quote by Steve Jobs also seems to really sum up the potential “paradigm-shifting” sentiment of the present “Jupiter-Uranus” energy: “Everyone here has the sense that right now is one of those moments when we are influencing the future.”
On a practical level, Jupiter-Uranus is excellent, creative energy for helping us to break out of our ruts, with the idea of change (Uranus), seeming far less daunting to us now. We are also potentially more willing and receptive to imagining and crafting new possibilities (Jupiter) for ourselves. Also, fresh, new intuitive (Uranus) insights can inspire us to make great big leaps of faith (Jupiter) forward now. American surgeon and author of Psycho-Cybernetics (1960), Maxwell Maltz, once observed that “moving forward” is a way for all us to consolidate or strengthen our lives. He said, “Man maintains his balance, poise, and sense of security only as he is moving forward.”

“A reform is a correction of abuses; a revolution is a transfer of power.” Robert Bulwer-Lytton
Well, now that we know the fine distinction between these two things, reform and revolution, it may be that we see a bit of both of these occurring today as the “big cheese” Sun conjuncts “liberating” Uranus, the sometimes quirky, and often unruly, “rebel stepchild” of the Universe.
“Change-agent” Uranus also tends to be “unpredictable” in nature, so it’s hard to ever know exactly what he has up his sleeve. It’s probably best for us to just prime ourselves for the “unexpected” today, and hope it will be “very good” unexpected stuff that develops in our lives.
Uranus can bring about sudden amazing breakthroughs and advances, especially of a more scientific or technological nature. This is especially the case in pioneering Aries, a sign also known for “firsts.” At any rate, a very good day to consider instituting new procedures or processes in our lives to make them more efficient. BTW, Uranus is formally associated with “genius.” Maybe all of our “IQ’s” will effectively get a boost today. Too, this is not a good day to resist change, as it could be a lost cause for us with wacky Uranus breathing down our necks, holding us captive. 🙂
This powerhouse Sun-Uranus pairing is also occurring in “don’t fence me in” Aries, the macho sign of war and the military. Of course, many of us already know what is presently unfolding in Libya with the international coalition forces enacting a no-fly zone over that country. Heard on the Wall Street Journal Radio this morning (love their early morning news program) that there is also reportedly some concern that Moammar Qadhafi could resort to terrorism, at some point, even use mustard gas.
Too, more unrest is again brewing in other areas of the Middle East. (We also have Mercury and Jupiter in Aries.) Ever since expansive Jupiter got into Aries, late January, is when the political activism and social unrest in the Middle East started heating up (also had warrior Mars in group-oriented Aquarius setting the tone then. Mars rules Aries.).
Aries also rules sports. Today, the long-awaited Barry Bonds‘ perjury trial is slated to begin, three years after Bonds was charged with lying to a federal grand jury when he denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs. One thing’s for certain about “high-voltage” Sun-Uranus: It is never a boring aspect!

“A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimension.” Oliver Wendell Holmes
Lordy, lordy! Look up in the sky! What is that coppery red, circular blob up there glowing in the heavens? Is it some kind of mysterious drunken bird with bloodshot eyes? Is it a space station from the planet Mars? Or did maybe Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer suffer some sort of painful nose detachment in a test run for the big event this weekend?
It could be that all of these lunatic interpretations are wrong, and what we are really looking at is the “Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse” on December 21, 2010 (3:14 am EST) at 29 degrees of motor mouth Gemini, which is also occurring on the same day as the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. Something that hasn’t happened together for 456 years, according to NASA.
The winter solstice is symbolically viewed as a transforming rebirth of the life-giving Sun, going from dark to light (shorter to longer days). While the full moon brings things to “full illumination and fruition,” with eclipses tending to magnify the impact of the typical full moon energy.
The coupling of these two, awe-inspiring, celestial events could be spiritually transforming for us, too, if we choose this rare time for prayer and meditation, and for going within. We are symbolically moving from an “unenlightened state” to a “state of enlightenment.” The lights of our consciousness are being “turned back on,” we are becoming more empowered, and can theoretically now “more clearly see our path.” A powerful time to set our intentions for the new year.
On another, more mundane level, however, this big, regenerating sky event, will also likely ratchet up all of our light bills significantly at the end of the month, causing many of us to flip our switches! We know how nothing is free anymore. Too, look for the stars to twinkle less in the coming year, as control freak Pluto in tightwad Capricorn imposes strict new energy efficiency standards on their output. 🙂
There is even a possibility that we may have to launch Saint Julian Assange and all of his holy WikiLeaks crew into outer space to investigate further, this matter of the dimming celestial lights. Early rumor has it that Michael Moore is also willing to foot the bill for the trip, if he can later make a twilight zone documentary of the whole thing starring Hillary Clinton.
It could be, too, that this Lunar Eclipse is really a hoax that the White House is clandestinely staging to divert our attention. We live in such a wicked world nowadays, we can never take anything at face value anymore. Until recently, there was virtually zero transparency. That is, until WikiLeaks gallantly came along. But then again, we may also want to question the motivation behind that glittery empire. Things are not always as they appear. So much is a sham. A masquerade. Would not be surprised if Assange is really an alien creature from another galaxy, checking the temperature and pulse of things on earth before spearheading a complete takeover of the planet in 2012 by hackers with no teeth.
Even the face of the Moon, seems to be sporting an escalating, and very suspicious looking case of acne now, with this Lunar Eclipse. Just look at those red pock marks on her. They’re everywhere! Probably due, in large part, to a female hormonal imbalance, spawned by menopause. The curse of the female DNA!
But, then again, it could just be that the marks are fake, and actually an orchestrated disguise. A stealthily paid for advertisement to get us thinking about pimple cream and our complexions. What ever happened to the good ole’ days and simply making love by the silvery Moon in our ’57 Chevy? No pressure of multi-tasking. No subversive messages about zits impinging upon our tender brains. We only had a few knobs to reach for, a few buttons to push. Lassie the collie dog roamed, but always came home at night with angelic Timmy. June Lockhart was there to make dinner and read us a bedtime story, and to tuck us in.
In all due seriousness (but can we even be serious with a devilishly lighthearted Gemini Moon?), this rare lunar event may be when we want to take full ownership, a full accounting, of our myriad thoughts and ideas, which are symbolically ruled by dictionary-minded Gemini, the designator of our humble conscious awareness and the sign of communication and speech. Attempt to gain a “full moon awareness and illumination” of all of the stuff and information that we endlessly pile away in our plush little heads, while going about the course of our soulful daily lives. Especially since the Eclipse is taking place at 29 degrees of Gemini, the very last degree of the sign, when we could all very well be “at the end of our ropes,” with respect to suffering all the stressful symptoms from an “over-crammed head,” which can often make it much more difficult to swallow, or to even blink our eyes. We know we will be completely finished off when we can no longer move our lips – instant death for a chatty Gemini Moon! Perish the thought.
Some suggested things to ask ourselves now: Why do we choose to feed our heads the way that we do? Is the mental diet that we are adhering to, meeting our daily intellectual needs as set up by the government? Are we happy with the general landscape of our mind? Or do we live in fear and trepidation at the prospect of getting lost in our thoughts because they are plum too bewildering and creepy? Especially the one about Sarah Palin becoming President, with Bristol Palin as Vice-President.
Another immediate case in point: Reading this blog right now. It may very well be that we need to be more discriminating about what we give our attention to in the future. Do we we even know why we are choosing to read about astrology? What need are we trying to fill? Are we just needing to believe in fairy-tales? Or, are we on to something much bigger, that many still don’t know about?
Too, why am I spending my present time writing about the faraway Moon when I may be better off vacuuming? Or combing my hair. Or learning how to play the piano like Elton John. Why do we choose to talk or write about the things that we do? Are we even aware, most of the time, of what we are emitting through our speech and communication? Including awareness of the impact of the specific words we choose to use? Would we maybe be better off communicating with fewer words, or using different words? Too, maybe we should all start whispering, especially those of us with high-pitched, shrill voices. Could be, too, that we should choose total silence, as our preferred state of being, instead of being incessantly steeped in chatter. Spend more time meditating and listening to the supposed wisdom of that still small voice within ourselves. How good a listener are we, anyway? Another weighty thing to ponder about now with the lunar eclipse here in the sign of communication: Our listening skills.
What is especially notable about this powerful eclipse today is that it is square to the Jupiter and Uranus conjunction in imaginative Pisces. Jupiter-Uranus can denote flashes of genius and extraordinary insight. It can also make us think way outside of the box. This is because rebel Uranus is an innovator, and often acts as a potent catalyst for change, particularly sudden changes that dramatically alter the playing field. Expander Jupiter generously helps to fuel the Uranian mission. Of course, Uranus also excels in spreading revolution, and or general mayhem.
Interestingly here, too, at the moment that I am writing this blog (Sat. Dec 18), with the politically-minded Sagittarius Sun exactly square to Uranus, as well as to the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction, the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” bill has just cleared its last procedural hurdle in the Senate, and is now reportedly slated to be voted on the floor of the full Senate on Monday, the eve of this Total Lunar Eclipse. Uranus is associated with equality, and normally figures prominently into gay rights issues. It could be that the “changing our ideas” Gemini Eclipse Moon (or at least recalibrating our thinking) finally triggers the repeal of DADT. It certainly appears to be looking that way now.
Senator Joe Lieberman, the lead sponsor of the DADT repeal bill, originally presented the bill when Uranus was prominent in the sky. I earlier wrote a blog on this subject. Pisces, too, is the sign that is associated with the downtrodden, the disenfranchised, and minority groups.
Additionally Mental Mercury (ruler of Gemini) is retrograding back into conviction-minded Sagittarius and is again forming a square to Jupiter-Uranus. Extra progressive icing on the holiday Senatorial cake. Of course, not everyone is in agreement about repealing DADT. And, Uranus is also probably reveling in the cacophony of opinion and the clash of philosophical differences. In the end, though, Uranus, the liberator that he is, will probably rest on the side of civil rights.
Historically, this Jupiter-Uranus conjunction has correlated with rapid breakthroughs in science and technology as well (Uranus rules these two areas). Neil Armstrong and “Buzz Aldrin” even landed in the Sea of Tranquility and became the first humans to walk the Moon with this aspect. So, there is really no telling where we can rocket to now in our minds, if we choose to, with this spectacular convergence of celestial energies. In the end, it’s all a matter of how we fuel our thoughts. Do we sufficiently fill their tanks? Or do we neglect them, and let them run on empty? Also, we may need to consciously empty our minds now of thoughts and beliefs that we have outgrown, that are only serving to keep a stranglehold on our further understanding and awareness, and keeping us from spectacularly landing and walking on our own personal Moons.
“I want to know God’s thoughts; the rest are details.” Albert Einstein
News Update 12/18: With the Sun in zealous Sagittarius exactly square equality-ruling Uranus (and square expansive Jupiter), and sextile “let’s all peacefully co-exist” Neptune, in humanitarian Aquarius, the U.S. Senate has historically gone ahead and voted today to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” by a vote of 65 to 31.
It appears that the square to sudden-acting, unpredictable Uranus really forced this issue today, something Uranus characteristically does. It forces changes, perhaps even more so now since it is aligned with the over-expander Jupiter, forcing the Senate to take “a giant leap” for the collective.
Too, we still have warrior Mars, ruling the military, in a separating conjunction with the Godfather of Transformation, Pluto, in governmental Capricorn. Mars and Pluto also rule sex, and issues of sexuality.
Also with Mars-Pluto, a new, powerful tax bill was successfully passed this past week, with Pluto additionally ruling taxes. With Pluto, we tend to pare down, and now it looks like with this new tax bill, there will be a big paring down of services that the U.S. government will be offering its citizenry. On the other hand, perhaps the reduction in taxes, will spur economic growth. That is apparently the hope.
The Senate meanwhile, has now sent the DADT repeal bill to President Obama to sign. Obama had campaigned on ending the DADT policy, which banned gays and lesbians from openly serving in the military. So we had a very historic day today, especially fascinating, too, from an astrological perspective. Could be that this Total Lunar Eclipse and Winter Solstice also bring about more big Uranian changes for the collective, the energies of these two events already starting to crescendo. The Senate is also suppose to continue with a discussion of START on Monday, another heavyweight issue that could impact the whole planet.

“The secret to a rich life is to have more beginnings than endings.” David Weinbaum
The cosmicweather changes dramatically today with both the Moon and benefic Jupiter entering the adventurous, fast-paced sign of Aries. The last time Jupiter was here was 12 years ago. Jupiter will stay in Aries till early September, at which time it will retrograde back into Pisces. ( Jupiter returns to Aries in January 2011 where it will stay until June 2011.)
What makes expansive Jupiter’s ingress into Aries so powerful now is that it is going to be joining innovative Uranus here on Tuesday (exact 7:25 am EDT 6/8/10), something that hasn’t occurred since 1928.
Jupiter, the planet of opportunity, intrinsically acts to magnify whatever type energy it is configured with. Since Uranian energy manifests in sudden, highly-charged ways, like a bolt of lightning out of the blue, there is a huge potential for exciting breakthrough developments and discoveries in our personal lives and for the collective that can be quite revolutionary in nature, especially since this conjunction is taking place in pioneering Aries, the sign of new beginnings. (This is a longer-term influence that will last for the next couple months, although it will be exact on Tuesday.)
So, we all need to buckle up, as we are going to be in for quite a ride in the coming weeks ahead.
Too, even though the calendar reads June 6th today, don’t let it fool you. The real energy now is more like the Fourth of July!
