“A key ingredient in innovation is the ability to challenge authority and break rules.” Vivek Wadhwa

COSMIC WATCH:

There’s a major shift in energy, today, as Mars, the planet of action and desire (also symbolizing the military, sports, and law enforcement) moves into “innovative” Aquarius (6:57 pm EST), the Water Bearer, where it will stay until January 12. Aquarius, a fixed, air sign, is ruled by “radical” Uranus, the planet that’s associated with genius, change, technology, and the unexpected. Those born under the sign of Aquarius tend to enthusiastically embrace the “road less traveled.” They may also have more of an interest in humanitarian, political, or social causes, and may seek to make the world a better place by deliberately questioning or challenging the established order of things. They’re also usually brimming over with new or original ideas for supplanting or replacing the existing status quo.

Accordingly, Mars transiting Aquarius, for the next few weeks, sets into play a possible scenario in which we’re more receptive to experimentation, or more comfortable departing from the “tried and true,” conventional approaches when it comes to pursuing our goals, or whatever it is that we want for ourselves. Mars in Aquarius is also excellent for helping us actually develop more “out-of-the-box” strategies for dealing with our lives, or the situations that we find ourselves in, as Aquarius is an intellectual air sign that tends to have more of an affinity for abstract reasoning, or detached thinking. Aquarius is also, perhaps, the best sign placement for Mars for seeding sudden, pivotal breakthroughs in things.

Too, Mars in Aquarius can incline some of us to want to take a more active stance on some of the larger social issues circulating around the collective, now, particularly, perhaps, those issues pertaining to the preservation or enhancement of individual rights or freedoms, and matters involving equality or diversity, which Uranus represents. Aquarius also specifically symbolizes individual expression within the context of a group setting. Also, even those of us who choose not to become outwardly involved in any causes, now, will likely find that we at least have a growing awareness of some of the dynamics, or root causes, that are fueling or fomenting these issues.

Of course, around the world, we have seen an escalation in protest movements, globally, ever since Uranus and Pluto first started squaring off with each other, over two years ago, something that also happened back in the 1960s in the U.S. when these two planets were also conjunct. Too, this month, around mid-December, the Uranus and Pluto square will be exact again, for a sixth time – although, we’re already, essentially, feeling the energy of that square. Additionally, Uranus is going to be stationing direct, on the 20th of December. At that same time, Mars in Aquarius will be exactly sextiling Uranus! While I’ll be mentioning more on all of this, later, suffice it to say, in the interim, that the Uranus-Pluto energy is, once again, attuning us to what’s broken, decaying, or outworn around us, and also, perhaps, pointing the way as to what needs to possibly be erected in its place.

A shadow side of Mars entry in Aquarius is that it can make us a little more erratic, or uneven, in how we apply our energies. Mars here can also, sometimes, be a disruptive force in the sense that we may be too overeager to overturn things without first having a solid type of infrastructure in place. Also, on the shadow side, Mars in Aquarius can occasionally translate into our being more willful or stubborn, especially when we don’t get our way.

Also, today, the Sun in “adventurous” Sagittarius is rolling out a welcome mat for Mars entry into Aquarius in the guise of its trine to Uranus in Aries (5:30 pm EST), usually a type of day when we can really sense that “change is in the air.”

Famous People with Mars in Aquarius: Michelle Obama, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Leonardo da Vinci, Jay-Z, Charles de Gaulle, Adele, Queen Elizabeth II, Rainer Maria Rilke.

Question for Today: What is life, perhaps, asking you to do differently, now?

Famous December 4th Birthdays: Tyra Banks, Jeff Bridges, Francisco Franco, Dennis Wilson, Wink Martindale, Rainer Maria Rilke

“Most people come to know only one corner of their room, one spot near the window, one narrow strip on which they keep walking back and forth.” Rainer Maria Rilke.

Enjoy your Thursday!

COSMIC WATCH:

“The day the power of love overrules the love of power, the world will know peace.” Mahatma Gandhi

With “liberating” Uranus in exact square formation to “transforming” Pluto, once again, a potentially revolutionizing influence that will continue to periodically play out over the next two or three years, we may want to ponder or scrutinize how we are personally using our individual power and influence (Pluto) to make a positive change or difference in the collective (Uranus).

For instance, how are we galvanizing our special talents and strengths on a daily basis, and minimizing our weaknesses, so that we can help to reform the world in such a way that each of us helps to lift each other up, instead of bring each other down?

What might we begin doing differently (Uranus) so that we can fully access and manifest the purest expression of our inner truth (Pluto)?

What courageous decisions could we possibly make now that maybe we have been putting off because we were afraid or hesitant to show our true colors, or were afraid to take a stand? It has been theorized that the average adult makes about 35,000 decisions per day. If we want to know what tomorrow will be like, all we pretty much need to do is monitor our decision-making today for clues. With each decision that we make, we set new things in motion for the future, for better or for worse.

What books could we start reading, conversations that we could start having, that might help us to grow or stretch our perceptions, or cull or refine our higher wisdom, so that we have the brilliance, acumen, and heart to solve the serious problems facing the world today?

What kind words might we say to someone to let them know that we care?

What new attitudes or perspectives could we individually and collectively adopt that might allow us to more peaceably co-exist with each other, instead of mindlessly going the the guns and violence route when things get tough and our patience wanes, along with our hope.

What social or humanistic causes might we get involved in, what politicians might we elect, or re-elect, that would likely serve to resurrect us from our self-generated darkness and apathy and make us shine as a brighter light in the world?

What might we finally have the guts to say ‘no’ to?

What might we finally say ‘yes’ to?

Pluto not only governs transformation and the urge for influence and power in the world. It also governs our legacy, or what we will be leaving behind. With revolutionary Uranus aligned with Pluto now we maybe have a golden opportunity to significantly alter that legacy in such a way that we will know for sure in our hearts that when we go, we will be leaving the world a much better place.

Refer back to the 1960s, when we had Uranus conjunct Pluto. We had the civil rights movement gaining momentum in the U.S. The anti-war movement. The creation of medicaid and medicare as part of the “Great Society.” The birth of the women’s liberation movement. The sexual revolution. And, lest we forget, the emergence of John, Paul, George and Ringo. How can we build upon all of that in the coming years in a meaningful way? How can we continue to evolve and raise the bar so that there is a bright future for our children, and our children’s children?

“A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead

Astrology June 24, 2012: Uranus Squares Pluto

COSMIC WATCH:

“Three things cannot be long hidden: the Sun, the Moon and the Truth.” Buddha

The game-changing  “Uranus square Pluto” aspect finally becomes exact today (5:12 am EDT). The first of seven meet-ups between these two celestial bodies that will be occurring between now and March of 2015. This influence has been building for several months, coinciding with high-profile rebellion (Uranus) in the collective, especially in the Middle East. Also with it we have witnessed the continuing implosion (Pluto) of outmoded structures in government and big business (Capricorn).  Pluto also governs debt and rarely does a day go by when we are not hearing about the financial crisis in Greece and elsewhere. Uranus-Pluto has also taught many of us the necessity of living within our means and purging non-essentials.

While this Uranus-Pluto aspect can be interpreted on many levels, one possible impact of it is that it will likely put on our radar screens what may have previously been hidden or withheld (Pluto) from our view. We will likely continue to be privy to hidden motives, hidden behaviors, behind-the-scenes schemings and maneuverings and draconian power struggles while it is in effect.

Married in with this evolving transparency will come a chance for transformation and a new order of things (Uranus). This regenerative process may also apply to matters that we have perhaps personally been denying or hiding from ourselves and others because we were maybe afraid to stand in our own truth.

With “radical” Uranus squaring “revealing” Pluto, which reflects our core essence, whatever is fake or corrupt will be exposed. Possibly some of our perceived “dirty laundry” will even be aired in a bid to hold us more accountable for our actions.  In the aftermath, we may feel a sense of cathartic release of finally being able to step into our own power without also carting around vestiges of shame and guilt.

On another level, this Uranus-Pluto aspect may be teaching us about the parameters of diversity and our own level of tolerance for those whose viewpoints and beliefs may be radically different from our own. Uranus is the planet associated with equality and individuality. “Human diversity makes tolerance more than a virtue; it makes it a requirement for survival.” Rene Dubos

Another thought about this Uranus-Pluto aspect is that there may be a growing desire, on the part of some, to move away from or renounce some of the high-tech gadgetry (Uranus) that has become so synonymous with our daily lifestyle and return to a quieter, less frenetic pace that allows for re-engagement with our inner self, our real source of power. Our relationship to technology (Uranus) essentially undergoing a metamorphosis (Pluto) of sorts. Not that technology will ever go away, it’s just that some of our fascination and obsession with it may wane as we begin to tangibly see firsthand some of its downside on our psyches and souls. We have already seen how texting has all too often replaced conversation and meaningful dialogue with each other. Also how being “plugged in” 24/7 has adversely impacted our ability to concentrate and focus our thoughts and attention.

In the News: The pre-trial hearing of imprisoned U.S. serviceman Bradley Manning is slated for tomorrow afternoon. Manning was arrested in May of 2010 in Iraq on suspicion of having passed classified material to website Wikileaks. He was eventually charged with numerous defenses including communicating national defense information. This story is especially fascinating now in wake of today’s exact square from Uranus, governing the internet, to Pluto, which rules classified information.

How might it help you to bare your soul now? What has been holding you back from living a more authentic existence?
