Astrology November 13, 2010: Sun Conjunct Uranus – Ronald Reagan Runs for President

On This Date In History:

On November 13, 1979: Ronald Reagan announces in New York his candidacy for president. The empowering Sun is in transformational Scorpio and exactly conjunct unconventional Uranus; an influence associated with breaking free from limitations and striking out on a new path

The Sun, as ruler of Leo, represent leaders and authority figures, while Uranus, as ruler of forward-looking Aquarius (Reagan’s Sun-sign), signifies change and radical new ideas/approaches. Scorpio is also the sign that rules taxes, debt, credit, and investments.

On days when the Sun and Uranus are conjoined, we may witness a departure from the past, in terms of leadership matters as well as sudden developments.

Reagan went on to win the U.S. presidency, the following year, and ended up serving two complete terms in office from January 21, 1981 to January 21, 1989. His presidency has been termed the “Reagan Revolution” (Uranus) as it was regarded to have initiated a “political realignment” both within the U.S. and beyond in favor of his brand of conservatism and free markets.

Pioneering Mars was also strong in theatrical Leo that day, and Reagan was previously “an actor” before becoming governor of California. Mars in Leo can usher in more “colorful” and “charismatic” leadership.

The Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and the North Node were also all in practical, “no frills” Virgo, maybe helping to foster more an acceptance of a message, on the part of the public, of a more “scaled down” type of government agenda and economic philosophy.

“Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.” Ronald Reagan

Mercury Sextile Pluto Aspect: Insight for Solving Life’s Riddles

This Date In History:

November 12, 1970:

Scientists perform the first artificial synthesis of a live cell.

Mental Mercury, governing logic and reasoning ability, is in Investigative Scorpio, the sign of DNA, regeneration, and the mysteries of life. Mercury, at 29 degrees of Scorpio, is exactly sextile to Scorpio’s ruler Pluto, at 29 degrees of Analytical Virgo, which is also the sign of physical health. (The harmonious 60 degree sextile aspect signifies “opportunity.”)

Mercury sextile Pluto is among the premier aspects for research, as Mercury’s understanding and reasoning is given much greater depth and focus when aligned with intense Pluto, which symbolizes what’s “hidden below” (life at the cellular level). Too, Mercury’s placement in Scorpio, in addition to its “sextile to Pluto,” was like having a ‘double whammy’ of Resourceful Scorpio energy to work with that day.

Plus, Probing Pluto was in Health-Oriented Virgo.  Virgo is a sign associated with microscopically “breaking things down” so as to understand them better.

Other very powerful, game-changing influences were also around that day:

Mercury was tightly conjunct Visualizing, Imaginative Neptune at 0 degrees of Scholastic Sagittarius, giving a greater ability to creatively “duplicate” or “replicate” situations.

Fortuitous Venus and Jupiter were exactly conjunct in Mystery-Solving Scorpio, perhaps bringing an element of “luck” and “more advantageous conditions” to the matter of research and problem-solving (Scorpio).

The Sun was in Multiplying Scorpio exactly opposite Karma Lord Saturn in “Material” Taurus. Saturn represents “form-building.” Oppositions denote “turning points.”

Finally, Pioneering Mars in Intellectual Libra was also separating from an intense conjunction with Genius Uranus, a planet known to bestow “sudden flashes of brilliance.”  Uranus acts as a catalyst for change, and often manifests it through technological and scientific aadvancement.

Mars Conjunct Uranus: John Lennon and Yoko Go Nude on Album

This Date In History:

November 11, 1968:

John Lennon and Yoko Ono appear nude on the cover of the “Two Virgins” album. Adventurous Mars – ruling the assertive urge – is exactly conjunct rebel Uranus in marital Libra, also the sign of the public. Venus-ruled Libra is also associated with artistic expression.

With Mars conjoined Uranus there is thought to be more of a tendency for us to want to break the rules, with Uranus symbolizing freedom of expression. Mars also governs our sexuality, and paired with non-traditional, freedom-loving Uranus, there is potentially an increased proclivity to want to innovate or experiment here.

The emotional Moon that day was also in theatrical, “Drama Queen” Leo, the sign of entertainment.

Pluto Conjunct the North Node in Capricorn

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Re-birthing Agent Pluto, denoting power and transition, is exactly conjunct the Growth Oriented North Node in Capricorn today. Capricorn is a sign associated with worldly ambition and achievement.

Symbolically, this is an excellent time for us to reflect upon and embrace our own power (Pluto). Also, to perhaps review how we have wielded our power in the past to attain the things that we desired. Are we satisfied with how we have used our power, to date? Or, do we maybe need to “retool” (Pluto) how we “leverage our power” in the future?

Too, we may want to use this time to give an accounting of some of our past actions to others. Pluto confers upon us “penetrating insight” into the past, and the sign that it rules, Scorpio, denotes joint resources, or how we characteristically share what we have (our power) with others. It could be that we gain closure now, for ourselves and others, by explaining why we have behaved certain ways in the past.

With the regenerative properties of Pluto well-established, too, this may also be an ideal time to “re-fashion” or “revitalize” our image, especially our public image and worldly reputation (Capricorn). We also may want to “tweak” or even “totally revamp” our higher goals for ourselves (Capricorn) in wake of emerging new awareness (Pluto) of our destiny (North Node).

Fascinatingly, Former President George W. Bush’s new memoir, “Decision Points” is being released today (Bush has the transiting expansive Jupiter at 23 degrees of Pisces now exactly conjunct his 9th house cusp of publishing and self-promotion.  Jupiter also rules books.). As President of the U.S., Bush held what is widely regarded as the “most powerful position in the world” and now, with Pluto (Power) exactly conjunct the North Node in Strategizing Capricorn, he is revealing to the rest of the world, through his memoir and in media interviews, what it was like for him when he was seated in the Oval Office. He is detailing and explaining why he chose to use his power (Pluto) the way that he did, what led him to make the decisions that he made.

As part of writing his memoir, he also seems to be wanting to “regenerate” or “revive” (Pluto) his personal image, and no doubt wanting to re-cast (Pluto) his presidency in a more “positive light” for the future (North Node), something that is, of course, typical for former presidents to want to do, once they have left that office.

With Pluto conjunct the North Node it behooves us to be thinking seriously about our legacy, or what we will be leaving behind when we are gone.  Legacy is something that falls under Pluto’s domain, and the North Node of the Moon symbolically speaks to us about “the karma” that we have specifically chosen to undertake in this lifetime.

On another level, we may also want to pay close attention to other “Pluto-type” (power, reform, legacy) stories in the news now, to see how this Pluto-North Node conjunction is playing out in the collective.  Often what appears to be happening “outside of us,” in the end, can also have special meaning and significance for our own personal lives. We can always learn from everything, and always draw parallels to our own situations, if we only take the time to “connect the dots.”

Yesterday, for instance, Oprah Winfrey did a show with members of Michael Jackson’s family and his children, and viewers of the show got to glimpse a side of Michael’s private life that perhaps had never been made public before, especially his personal relationship with his children. Pluto’s ray, when activated, can reveal to us what has previously been “kept secret.” Pluto, as ruler of the subconscious, naturally signifies what is “hidden or submerged.”

Again, if you saw the Oprah interview, you also witnessed part of the living legacy (Pluto) that Michael has left behind, especially his children. I was personally very touched and moved by how much his children really loved him, even worshiped him.

When Oprah asked Michael’s daughter, Paris, what she “missed the most” about her dad, she said, “everything.”  That was a very powerful moment, and also again, “very Pluto.” Pluto rules those emotional experiences that resonate with us “at the very core” of our being.

Too, we think about the amazing “musical legacy” that Michael left the world. But, at the end of the day, if Michael were alive today, he may very well say, after that Oprah interview, that the single thing that he was “proudest of,” was that “one word comment” made by Paris to Oprah, knowing that he was able to affect his daughter in such a positive way as a father.

Elsewhere, we are also hearing about the ongoing chaos ensuing from the eruption of Mount Merapi in Indonesia. Pluto fittingly rules volcanoes, with a volcanic eruption a graphic example of the “expulsion of contents” from deep within its core. (Pluto) Again, one parallel here for our individual lives is: We all “blow our stacks” too!

On Monday, Steven Hayes was sentenced to death by a jury in Connecticut for his role in a grisly triple killing during a home invasion, a high-profile news story from the past that also speaks to the “dark side” of Pluto. The “shadow side” of Pluto is associated with cold-blooded murder and torture, an absolute “abomination of power” that, to most of us, is in impossible to understand.

Elizabeth Smart is additionally recounting, in a courtroom today, her previous abduction and sexual molestation (Pluto’s “shadow side” rules “forced sex” and “enslavement”). Also, there is a story breaking about “69 child prostitutes” being rescued in the U.S. and “99 pimps” being arrested. The “unenlightened” side of Pluto, too, is associated with manipulation and exploitation.

Yet, in another late breaking news story today, there is word that about $40 million in holocaust (Pluto) reparations have been stolen in a massive scam (another manifestation of Pluto exploitation at its worst).

So, with Pluto-North Node now, we are collectively being made aware of things that we were previously “in the dark” about. Too, with Pluto, ruling “the underworld,” there can often be a very sinister and darker nature to the events that unfold around its energy. Of course, it should also be interjected here that, how we choose to “use our power,” (Pluto) is ultimately up to us.  We can use our power to “do good,” or we can use our power in a harmful, controlling way that hurts others, and eventually suffer the dire consequences.

Also, back to “image-building” a moment. President Obama seems to be doing some “edifying” of his own persona on the world stage now and also trying to put forward ideas that could be characterized as having “a new spin”  to them (Pluto).  He was in India yesterday, for example, and talked there about the relationship the U.S. has with India, and how he would like to “retool it” (Pluto) in such a way that Americans do not regard India as a place to which “jobs are outsourced,” but rather see it as a place where new jobs for Americans can be created.

Patricia’s Astrology: October 20, 1968 Jackie Kennedy Weds Aristotle

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

On This Date In History:

On October 20, 1968, former “First Lady” Jackie Kennedy weds wealthy Greek shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassis. Aristotle’s private island “Skorpios” in the Ionian Sea is the site for this historic event.

In Jackie’s and Aristotle’s “wedding chart” that day (time unknown for the service), Venus, the Goddess of Love and Marriage, was in Possessive Scorpio and in an “out-of-sign” sextile to Non-conforming Uranus in Marital Libra.  When Venus is aligned with Uranus we often see “unusual pairings” taking place.  Venus-Uranus is often “non-traditional” and tends to bring about alliances between very different kinds of persons.   When Frank Sinatra met Mia Farrow, for instance, he had Venus-Uranus prominent in his chart. Venus-Uranus craves excitement and embraces relationships that are “out of the norm.” Additionally, Paul McCartney met John Lennon when Venus-Uranus was exact in the heavens.  It can be an aspect of “sudden attraction.”

Interestingly, Jupiter, the traditional planet of “good fortune and abundance,” was also in a tight conjunction to Pluto. Pluto is associated with “mega-money,” especially when aligned with “lucky” and “expansive” Jupiter. Jupiter and Pluto were in Practical, Dutiful Virgo and harmonious to Sea-Faring Neptune in the sign of Joint Resources Scorpio (Aristotle’s wealth was from Neptunian-ruled shipping). It has been reported that a main reason Jackie married Aristotle was out of a need for privacy and security for her children, which would fit the practical, stabilizing Virgo-Scorpio energy.

Venus, at 29 degrees of Scorpio, was also separating from a Glamourizing, Idealistic conjunction with Neptune at 25 of Scorpio. With Venus-Neptune, there can be a lot of fantasy and make-believe at the core of the relationship, as Neptune is the ruler of our imagination and dreams. Venus-Neptune relationships are often hard to “see clearly,”  as Neptune characteristically looks at romance through “rose-colored glasses.” Venus-Neptune tends to “idolize the partner,” sees him or her as a “savior.” Venus-Neptune relationships can sometimes contain “martyrdom” elements to them as well, as Neptune often denotes ego-denying experiences.

Also, in Jackie’s case, Venus-Neptune literally symbolized a “romance involving aspects of the sea,” as Aristotle made his livelihood from the sea.

Venus additionally was at an “anaretic degree” of Scorpio (meaning the last degree of a sign), which can signal a “sense of urgency” to the relationship and romance. (Too, in a few years, Jackie would later end up a “widow,” with Scorpio the sign of “transition.”)

Jackie, who was a proud, charismatic Leo with a Private Scorpio rising and an Adventurous Aries Moon, also had in her personal horoscope then, Stabilizing Saturn transiting at 21 degrees of Libra exactly trine to her natal Venus at 21 degrees of Gemini. Venus also rules her 7th house of marriage.  With Venus-Saturn, we often forge relationships with older individuals (which Saturn denotes) and often these relationships are based on security needs. Venus not only rules relationships it also rules money. Saturn was also getting ready to move into Jackie’s twelfth house of seclusion, a period when we often seek a “personal retreat” from the outside world.

Aristotle, an Ambitious Capricorn with a Travel-Happy Sagittarius Moon, had transiting Jupiter and Pluto in Virgo exactly trine to his natal Venus in Capricorn in his horoscope when he married Jackie.  Venus-Pluto can represent a “transforming passion” in our lives, and it sometimes synonymous with “bringing us our soulmate.” (Pluto denotes past lives.)

Patricia’s Astrology Venus Retrograde in Scorpio: Govt Shuts Down!

Tags

On This Date In History:

On October 16, 1986, the U.S. government closed down due to “budget woes.” Interestingly, on that very same day, Venus, which rules money (also relationships), turned retrograde in the sign of Scorpio at 20 degrees.  Scorpio is the sign of the zodiac associated with debt, taxes, financing and collections. When a planet is retrograde, we tend to “revisit the affairs” ruled by that planet.

Therefore, with Venus “retrograde,” it was a good time then to review and analyze monetary and budget policy. Often, with a “retrograde review,” we end up “tweaking or revising our strategy.” In this case, the government apparently was running “low on dough” or “cash reserves” and had to find a creative way in the budget to “rob Peter to pay Paul.”

Presently, we also have Venus retrograde again in Scorpio, and Friday night on the news there was a report that there would not be any raise for Social Security recipients, in the coming year. Apparently, it has something to do with the formula for calculating “cost of living adjustments.” (Sounds like double-speak to me!) Somewhat of another parallel to the past, perhaps, in a left-handed way?

Also on Friday, Fed Chairman, Ben Bernanke, stated that inflation levels were too low and that the central bank was considering resuming buying treasury bonds to stimulate the economy, an idea that is not without controversy.

Also, in October of 1986, Neptune, the planet of disintegration and disarray, was at 3 degrees of Capricorn, which is the official sign of bureaucratic government. Neptune has an “escapist” nature so, it was no wonder that government officials, baffled back then, just wanted to “call it quits” for a while. Fascinatingly today, Pluto is also at 3 degrees of Capricorn. Pluto, though, tends not to disappear, unfortunately.  He is a big “control freak” and prefers just to “blow everything up,” and start all over again from scratch.

Too, when the government shut down in 1986, Warrior Mars, in Unconventional Aquarius, was in a tight square (frictional aspect) to Pluto in Scorpio.  Pluto is the co-ruler of Scorpio with Mars, and Pluto also signifies “debt.” “Mars-Pluto” aspects are classic “war aspects,” when “you know what” usually hits the fan!

Additionally, your humble astrologer even has transiting Mars in my eighth house of spooky financial stuff applying to an exact square to Pluto in entertaining Leo now, and here I am writing about debt for fun (what a fun life!).

Another parallel to the past today: Mars is at 20-21 degrees of Scorpio, the very same place that Venus was at when the government shut down in 1986!  Scorpio also rules haunted houses and ghosts of the past. And we do have Halloween coming up in a couple weeks. This whole thing is seeming pretty scary to me.  What do you think? 🙂

Patricia’s Astrology: October 15, 1969 “The Vietnam Moratorium”

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

On This Date In History:

October 15, 1969 – The “Vietnam Moratorium” is held.  Millions of people protest the war (including Bill Clinton, who was a student at Oxford then). In the heavens, passionate “Warrior” Mars in Capricorn, the sign of government, is exactly square to “Philosophical” Jupiter in Libra, the sign of peace and diplomacy.

“Mars-Jupiter” is an aspect with a great history of “firing up our passions and idealism.” Mars, the energy planet, energizes whatever it touches and Jupiter represents our moral beliefs.  We are willing to “do combat” (Mars) for “what we believe in” now (Jupiter), similar to the energy of today’s Aquarius Moon which speaks to us about getting involved in causes “greater than ourselves.” With the Vietnam Moratorium, the protesters peacefully dissented (diplomatic Libra) against the “war policies”of the government (Mars in Capricorn). Mars rules war and the military.

Often Mars-Jupiter is associated with “religious fanaticism,” too, as Jupiter rules religion, and the nature of  Jupiter is such (especially when it is aligned with energizer Mars) that we can easily “go overboard” and get “carried away” with whatever we are involved with.

Even though Jupiter is an “expansive influence,” and more of a “benevolent planet,” sometimes the pitfall with it is we do not know when to “rein ourselves in.” For example, Jupiter is also associated with obesity and excess. We can’t stop with just “one jelly doughnut,” we have to consume a whole dozen! So, moderation is often needed and called for with Jupiter, if we are going to judiciously utilize the opportunity energies of this great planet to the best capacity.

Astrology: I Love Lucy Debuts With Venus Conjunct Mars

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , ,

On October 15, 1951, I Love Lucy, starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, William Frawley, and Vivian Vance, debuted on CBS-TV. I Love Lucy, an American comedy sitcom that centered around the lives of two married couples, aired for six seasons.  For most of its run, it was the most popular TV show in America, and it is still in syndication around the world.

When the show premiered, the Energizing Sun, Communicator Mercury and Fantasy Neptune were all conjunct in Marital Libra and also sextile to transforming Pluto in Leo, the sign of entertainment. A fourth planet, Stabilizer Saturn, was also in Libra, and exactly opposite Expansive Jupiter in Pioneering Aries.

With such a prevalence of planets in Libra, the timing was natural to launch a fictional TV show (Neptune) about married couples. The sextile aspect to Pluto also helped to give the show unique, mass appeal (which Pluto rules) and also made it something that could potentially deeply impact the viewers – perhaps holding a mirror to their own marriages (Pluto’s ray tends to spawn deep insight). Pluto is also associated with “historic firsts” and the show helped to establish many precedents in television entertainment.

Also, for the I Love Lucy launch, the Love Duo of Venus and Mars, were tightly conjunct in Virgo, a sign with a penchant to please. (Even though Lucy was always “rocking the boat” at home, with her humorous, often oddball antics, she was also very anxious, in the end, to placate hubby Ricky.  The same was true for Ethel wanting to please Fred. I always dearly loved Ethel, didn’t you?  She seemed like a perfect “best friend” to have. The kind of friend who would never let you down. Ethel had simple charm and was deeply sympathetic. Nothing inauthentic about her. Fred was also a nice, low-key guy. They may a good pair. Both were perfect complements to the much more animated Ricky and Lucy.)

When Venus, ruling our power of attraction, is conjoined Mars, it not only tends to make us more attractive to the opposite sex, it also puts the topic of romance front and center on the table. I Love Lucy took it all one step further and brought the topic directly into our living rooms. It was a “big thing” during that time era.

Additionally, the Mercury conjunction to Imaginative Neptune, with Mental Mercury ruling writing, is also an extremely creative aspect for generating mesmerizing, “make believe” story lines.  This is a classic “storyteller aspect.” Neptune also rules acting and all the characters in the show did a superb job in that department as well. The I Love Lucy episode below, when Lucy and Ethel both got jobs at a chocolate factory, is one of my all-time favorites. It’s still funny, no matter how many times you see it.

Patricia’s Astrology: Mars Neptune and The Advent of Color TV

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

On This Date in History:

On October 14, 1964, Philips began experimenting with color TV. In the heavens, the transiting Moon was passing through Scientific Aquarius, the sign which rules television broadcasting. Activator Mars, in Entertainment Leo, was also exactly square to Photogenic Neptune in Transforming Scorpio.  Neptune rules photography and images, and the whole realm of “illusion” and “make believe.” The square is a powerful astrological influence that “forces action.”

“Mars-Neptune” is traditionally heralded in astrology as one of the most creative aspects of all. This is because Neptune rules dreams and the imagination, and Mars acts as a catalyst to fire up whatever it is aligned with.  The nature of Mars is also pioneering, so with the help of the Experimental and Technologically-Savvy Aquarius Moon, there was this attempt to develop something new in the way of Leo entertainment: “color TV images” (Neptune). Neptune is also often referred to as the planetary ray that makes us see things through “rose-colored glasses.” Another tie in here with color and vision.

Patricia’s Astrology On this Day in History October 13: Shroud of Turin

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

On This Day In History:

On October 13, 1988, the “Shroud of Turin,” a linen cloth depicting the image of a man who looks to have sustained injuries, consistent with a crucifixion, that some also believe is the image of Jesus Christ at the time of his burial, is shown by carbon-testing to “be a fake” from the Middle Ages. However, to this day, the matter is still mired in much controversy. Some critics contend that the samples used for the testing were not typical of the entire shroud.

Fascinatingly, on this date, Communicator and News Reporter Mercury was retrograde in Libra and, as many of us know, information received under a retrograde Mercury can be revised or subject to change later.

Also, much more central to the matter here, is Traditionalist Saturn’s exact conjunction with Discovery Uranus at 27 degrees of Sagittarius.  Sagittarius is a sign associated with formal doctrine and religion.  Uranus rules modern science and testing (the carbon-testing), and Saturn represents the established form and structure in our lives, which in this case, would symbolize the common perception about the Shroud of Turin.

With Saturn-Uranus, which is a very powerful aspect, there can be a “sudden attack or jolt” (Uranus) to the foundational fabric of our lives (Saturn).  Uranus perennially acts like a “bolt of lightning” out of the blue. Since the sign of Sagittarius is also involved here, this new emergence was felt in the area of conventional religion.

Additionally, the transiting North Node of the Moon was at 11 degrees of Pisces, the sign of mysticism and spiritually, and exactly trine to transformer Pluto at 11 degrees of Scorpio, the sign that deals with the mysteries of life, death, and rebirth (or resurrection).

Pluto acts in such a way to shine a flashlight into a cave. We glean a new consciousness or awareness of what was previously hidden or obscured from view. Pluto also rules death and the Shroud of Turin depicts images of someone who likely died from being crucified.  The North Node of the Moon is often thought to play a part in our karmic and spiritual evolution. With the North Node-Pluto influence we were seeing the Shroud in a “new light.”

Also, the transiting South Node of the Moon at 11 degrees of Analytical Virgo was exactly conjunct Venus, with Venus ruling objects that we love and value. Venus could also be representative of the Shroud or cloth itself, a material item of the past (South Node rules the past), being put “under the Virgo microscope” for further study and digestion.

The Catholic Church is the owner of the Shroud of Turin. The cloth is currently stored in the Cappella della Santa Sindone (the chapel of the Holy Shroud) in the Duomo di San Giovanni. It is only displayed every 25 years, due to the fragile nature of the cloth. It will not be displayed again until 2025, although there is a replica of it available for viewing.
