Astrology July 15, 2011: Full Moon in Capricorn

COSMIC WATCH:

“Work, love and play are the great balance wheels of man’s being.” Orison Swett Marden

There’s a Full Moon in “career” Capricorn today (2:40 am EDT). Meaning that the Sun is in opposition to the Moon from “nesting” Cancer. With a Full Moon we aim to balance opposing forces. In this case, our “cosmic marching order” is to create a healthy equilibrium between our professional or outer world activities (Capricorn) and our obligations or duties on the home front (Cancer). We may also encounter real-life scenarios now that trigger “hands-on experience,” or offer “extra insight,” on exactly how to do this.

For instance, there could be a sudden event in the home arena that serves as a “wake-up call” for us to change or recalibrate our priorities at work. Perhaps the event makes us realize that we have been focusing too much on our career to the detriment of the needs of our immediate environment.  Or, vice versa. Maybe we have been too busy cocooning at home and now we suddenly realize that we need to re-engage again with the outside world. Perhaps we haven’t been working for a while and now we need to re-enter the work force to supplement the family budget.

Too, it could be that the Full Moon in Capricorn serves as a lightning rod for generating new revelations about our life’s work. Or, contribution to society. It may also be a good time to ask ourselves if we are truly happy or satisfied with the professional path that we have selected. Do we think that we are doing what we came into this life to do?

If not, we may want to make some changes now. Maybe scrap certain activities that have have become counterproductive or outmoded. We may even want to consider going back to school. Get new training to expand our job skills. The Full Moon in Capricorn does form an exact creative quintile with “change-agent” Uranus in “new beginnings” Aries. Uranus often demands that we “alter” or “reinvent” ourselves, so that we can lead lives that are a greater testament to our authentic being. And less a reflection of society’s or other people’s dictates for us.

Too, Uranus rules technology. This may be a good time to upgrade our tech skills in conjunction with our career (Capricorn). Or maybe employ some new technology to aid us in a job search.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Astrology July 13, 2011: Venus Squares “Distant” Saturn

COSMIC WATCH:

“Whenever you’re in conflict with someone, there is one factor that can make a difference between damaging your relationship and deepening it. That factor is attitude.” William James

Little Miss Venus, the “loving glue” that binds us together, squares “withholding” Saturn in partnership Libra from the ultra-sensitive sign of Cancer. Venus-Saturn tends to elevate the fear and vulnerability factors in our relationships, with Saturn encouraging us to “wall ourselves off.” So it could be that it may be a bit harder for us to “stick together” or “to connect” now, unless we consciously choose to adopt a more cooperative or caring spirit that enables us to override  our more fluctuating moods or fragile sensitivities.

Too, with Saturn presiding over our responsibilities and sense of duty, Venus-Saturn can sometimes have us feeling that we are cast in a “ball and chain” role with no way out. Of course, this is not true. We always have choices available to us. With that said, we may still want to consider putting off that first, tender date with George Clooney, for another time, when the cosmic terrain is easier to navigate.

The Moon is also shifting into Saturn-ruled Capricorn this morning (10:14 am EDT), amplifying our desires to achieve our worldly ambitions. Also setting the stage for the potent Full Moon in Capricorn on Friday.

Astrology July 12, 2011: Moon is in Roaming Sagittarius

COSMIC WATCH:

“I see my path but I don’t know where it leads. Not knowing where I’m going, inspires me to travel it.” Rosalia de Castro

The Moon is in roaming Sagittarius all day, fueling our desire to want to explore open spaces and leave our magnificent mark on uncharted territory. This is perhaps especially the case, early on, when the Moon makes an opposition to energizing Mars in restless sightseer Gemini (7:56 am) and then trines mental Mercury in “thinking big” on the wild prairie in Leo (8:21 am).

A day, too, when we are more likely to want to vigorously share our homespun views and massive insights about the “big picture,” as the Sadge Moon tends to incite an evangelistic thread in us.

If we are also able to sell a little “snake oil” to fellow travelers on the mystical journey of life, so be it. 🙂

Do you feel comfortable in the “preacher/teacher” role?

BTW, today marks the first anniversary of the 164-year revolution of Neptune’s orbit around the Sun, since Neptune was discovered on September 23, 1846.

Astrology July 10, 2011: Moon in Transitioning Scorpio

COSMIC WATCH:

“Disenchantment, whether it is a minor disappointment or a major shock, is the signal that things are moving into transition in our lives.” William Throsby Bridges

This is the last full day of the Moon in transitioning Scorpio, with Scorpio the sign of the zodiac formally governing both death and rebirth. Scorpio also rules such things as debt and taxes, and resources that we share with others (joint financial matters, sex).

Today may deliver even more poignant transitions than normal because we still have expander Jupiter, in money-ruling Taurus, involved in a tight, less than one degree trine with Pluto, Scorpio’s ruler, in influential Capricorn, the sign of government, business and career.

Abundant Jupiter, the planet of growth and opportunity, expands whatever it touches and aligned with transforming, rejuvenating Pluto (and the Scorpio Moon), we potentially have a colossal chance (Jupiter) to dramatically reconfigure or reshape things in our lives now, including positively altering our perceptions. This is actually, in a way, very “magical energy” that we have at our disposal now. Magical in the sense that it is replete with great alchemical potential.

It is also a good day to perhaps read about or study matters that we don’t understand, or that are a mystery to us. Scorpio is intrinsically “investigative energy” and always gives us the cool chance to put on our fetching detective caps. The penetrating Scorpio Moon also provides us with a firm backdrop for poking holes through some of our rigid defenses that may be holding us hostage psychologically. Pluto-ruled Scorpio presides over our subconscious, the gateway to our buried past. It also rules the study of psychology.

The protective, nurturing Cancer Sun is additionally forming a fortuitous quintile (72-degree aspect) to optimistic Jupiter today, throwing in an upbeat, creative vibe to the energy of the day. Jupiter governs our vision for ourselves, and endows us with a good measure of faith and hope in the future. The quintile aspect also denotes “special gifts” or “abilities.”

Enjoy your Sunday!

Astrology July 9, 2011: Venus Sextiles Jupiter, Uranus Goes Retrograde

Tags

COSMIC WATCH:

“The greatest pleasure of life is love.” Euripedes

After having a rather rough go, the last few days, affectionate Venus in nurturing Cancer finally catches a lucky break today with her warm sextile to abundant Jupiter in earthly pleasures Taurus. Venus-Jupiter is often synonymous with “luck in love.” So, hopefully, this royal duo will be able to wave their magical wand for us and graciously shower us with a bonanza of romance. Or grant whatever is our heart’s fondest desire.

This aspect is also grand for entertaining and parties, with Venus also ruling our social life and Jupiter liking to do things on a lavish scale. Jupiter actually rules and symbolizes matters of royalty, and we have William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, reportedly partying with the glamorous “Hollywood Jet Set,” this weekend, in LA. This is Kate Middleton’s first visit to the States. Wouldn’t you just love to be a “fly on the wall” at one of the planned celebrations?

The Moon is also in passionate Scorpio today, magnifying our desires and ramping up our ability to seize upon and claim the rich, intrinsic pleasures of the moment.

Of course, life is never simple and uncomplicated. We also have “wild child” Uranus, the planet of personal freedom and rebellion, stationing retrograde today in self-willed Aries. Whenever a planet changes direction, it tends to call more attention to itself (Uranus stays retrograde until December 9th). Although, we also have intellectual Mercury in theatrical Leo forming a stabilizing sextile to disciplined, conforming Saturn in diplomatic Libra today. This suggests to me that we do have the mental ability to “check” or “censor” our performances (Leo), if need be. Mercury sextile Saturn is excellent for both focused concentration and serious discussions.

Too, it may be an especially good day for talking about “affairs of the heart” (perhaps popping the big question?) with Mercury in romantic Leo and Saturn in matrimonial Libra. Too, lest we forget, we also have the indulgent, and very endearing, Venus-Jupiter sextile.

In the News: Sadly, I learned, this morning, that former first lady, Betty Ford, passed away, late yesterday, at the age of 93. I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan and for many, many years, Betty’s husband Gerald, our late president, served as our district’s congressman. My late mother also worked at Herpolsheimer’s department store with Betty Ford in Grand Rapids, in the 1940s, where Betty was employed as a model.

Tragically, this week in Grand Rapids, there was also a mass shooting that made world headlines. Seven people were killed. The shootings occurred at locations near where I have relatives living. My brother was also at a memorial last night for the shooting victims when all of a sudden, the event also turned into a memorial for Betty Ford, when it was learned that she had passed.

We had Venus opposite Pluto yesterday, an aspect that, historically, has coincided with the passing away (Pluto rules death) of prominent females (Venus rules women) in the collective. Pluto is also in Capricorn, the sign of government officials. Venus in caring Cancer also denotes Betty’s humanistic legacy with respect to establishing the Betty Ford Center in California for treatment of drug and alcohol addiction. Betty helped to take away the shame of addiction by boldly coming forward and publicly announcing that she had substance abuse problems at a time when it was unheard of for public officials to do so. Betty Ford was a pioneering Aries Sun, with her Moon in compassionate Pisces.

“My makeup wasn’t smeared, I wasn’t disheveled, I behaved politely, and I never finished off a bottle, so how could I be alcoholic?” Betty Ford.

Astrology July 8, 2011: Venus Squares “Deep” Pluto, Moon in Libra

Tags

COSMIC WATCH:

“Jealousy is that pain which a man feels from the apprehension that he is not equally beloved by the person whom he entirely loves.” Joseph Addison

The Moon remains in diplomatic Libra, however, she may have to perform double-duty to keep things copasetic  today. This is because we have sweet Venus, the ruler of relationships and romance, opposed to intense Pluto. Pluto stands guard over our subconscious, with Venus-Pluto often acting as a conduit for channeling our deeper, more complex emotions.

Too, often what we keep buried inside, can have a darker or more primitive vibration to it, as it hasn’t yet had a chance to be fully processed by our conscious awareness.  On the shadow side, Venus-Pluto has been linked with feelings of jealousy, manipulation, suspicion, and obsession, with Pluto also governing our urge for power and control.

If we feel toxic emotions rising to the surface now, instead of instinctively acting on them, we may be better off trying to probe and figure out why they are there in the first place. Venus-Pluto can be very healing in that it can help us arrive at a fresh awareness and understanding and then, accordingly, help us to purge from our behavior whatever is unhealthy.

Also, this aspect can be positive for “clearing the air” with others, as long as we do so in a manner that does not unduly invite resentment and anger. Hopefully, that is where the “polite” Libra Moon can come to our friendly assist today. Too, a good day to remember to, “make peace, not war.”

Enjoy your Friday!

Astrology July 7, 2011: Venus Square Uranus, Jupiter Trine Pluto

Tags

COSMIC WATCH:

“They spoil every romance by trying to make it last forever.” Oscar Wilde

The Moon in social Libra points us in the direction of relationships. However, Libra’s ruler, sweet Venus, is also making a square to erratic Uranus, the planet of rebellion, so affairs of the heart could be somewhat unsettled. Venus-Uranus is often chocked full of twists and turns. With that said, it may also be wise for us to subdue any of our “wilder impulses” (Uranus) for the time being.

We also have a dynamic, very fortuitous trine today between Jupiter, the planet of opportunity and abundance, in financial Taurus, and rejuvenating Pluto in influential Capricorn. A time for us to aim high and reach for the stars with respect to our professional or career goals. This is also an excellent time for purging and letting go of the past, especially ridding ourselves of self-limiting beliefs and doubts about our capabilities. Jupiter-Pluto is also associated with “mega-wealth” (billionaires) and “mega-power,” making this an ideal time to network with high-profile types who may be able to magically assist us in our ascent to the top.

Interestingly, President Obama is also holding a “bipartisan debt discussion” at the White House today with Republican and Democratic leaders. Pluto is the planet that governs debt. Perhaps Pluto’s alignment with lucky Jupiter, may finally bring about some forward progress on the matter of raising (Jupiter) the debt ceiling (Pluto) in the U.S.

Astrology July 6, 2011: Mars Trines Productive Saturn

Tags

COSMIC WATCH

“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” Paul J. Meyer

This is a day when we may be able to make major inroads with respect to our “to-do lists,” as we not only have an efficient, hardworking Virgo Moon, we also have enterprising Mars, in adaptable Gemini, forming a harmonious trine to productive Saturn in balancing Libra. Saturn governs our sense of duty, self-discipline, and powers of concentration.

Too, Mars trine Saturn is not only an aspect of accomplishment, it can also serve to help stabilize our circumstances. Also, positive Mars-Saturn aspects often coincide with our being recognized for our past efforts (Saturn is linked with karma).

Accordingly, this may be an excellent day for us to detail our professional accomplishments with those who are higher up in the chain of command. Also, we may want to make known to these same individuals our long-term goals and ambitions. Saturn symbolizes persons in authority, as well as seniors. Saturn is also associated with tradition, and Mars-Saturn generally tends to favor using more conventional methods to getting ahead, although Mars in Gemini can also be very versatile and experimental, so we have a little bit of flexibility here.

Interestingly, it was announced today that the South Korean city of Pyeongchang will host the 2018 Winter Olympics, bringing the prestigious games to a new region of Asia. Mars is the planet that rules sports and athletics. Perhaps its placement in curious, inquisitive Gemini is why the traditional hierarchy of the Olympics Committee (denoted by Saturn) decided to go with something different here, on this Mars trine Saturn day. (From wsj.com)

Also, another possible manifestation of this same aspect: For the first time, President Obama (Saturn figure) started fielding questions on Twitter today from “Tweeps.” The pioneering Mars in Gemini (the sign of communication) trine to Saturn symbolizing here the “opening of new doors of communication” with a prominent authority figure (Saturn).

Famous people with Mars trine Saturn: Marilyn Monroe, Andy Griffith, Leonardo Da Vinci, Sinclair Lewis, Annie Lennox

Do you keep a daily “to-do list?” If so, do you reward yourself when you successfully complete what’s on that list?

Personal Note: Now that I have Mercury, Venus and the Sun transiting my 4th house of the home and family in Cancer, I get a chance to play the role of “doting aunt” for a while. Below is a link to “Buckman Film Academy,” which is my niece, Sarah Nagy’s, exclusive film school for children in Portland, Oregon. Astrology July 5, 2011: Mercury Square Jupiter, Mercury Quinqunx Pluto

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WATCH:

“Vision without action is a dream. Action without vision is simply passing the time. Action with vision is making a positive difference.” Joel Barker

With cerebral Mercury in ostentatious Leo square to long-winded Jupiter in moneybags Taurus, we may be hatching some grandiose, “get rich quick” schemes in our heads today. But how to implement those ideas is where our vision may suddenly get murky. Mercury square Jupiter tends to make us go overboard in our thinking. We exaggerate outcomes. Get sloppy with the facts.

One saving grace for us here:  The Moon is deposited in practical, “detail-obsessed” Virgo. She will likely be taking critical aim at many of our hyperbolic meanderings, as soon as they surface.

We also have Mercury in Leo forming a stressful quinqunx to controlling Pluto in executive boardroom Capricorn. This aspect can tempt us to impose our will upon others, without their consent. If we choose to go down this prickly path, we may want to arm ourselves with an exit strategy, in advance. In the event our personal agendas meet with formidable, unfathomable resistance.

“If you want to be incrementally better: Be competitive. If you want to be exponentially better: Be cooperative.” Unknown

Have you ever had any luck with “get-rich-quick schemes?” Or are you too savvy to get involved with them in the first place? Do you think the “road to riches” has to be unduly difficult?
