astrology for january 12 2012, basking in the spotlight, Hollywood, horoscope january 12 2012, on stage

COSMIC WATCH:

With the Moon still hanging out in “Hollywood Leo” we are naturally drawn to the spotlight. Although we may find that our star shines even brighter when we also allow others the same chance to grab some of the glory. This may be especially applicable when the authoritative Leo Moon aligns with controlling Pluto (3:59 pm EST), a time when a more cooperative, integrative approach is likely a savvy strategy to placate all egos and preserve the peace at the same time. Sometimes, on the shadow side with Moon-Pluto, we are inclined to want to call all the shots, which can, of course, give rise to some ill will and misunderstandings among our comrades, if we act in ways that are too forceful or rigid.

“Love only grows by sharing. You can only have more for yourself by giving it away to others.” Brian Tracy

Today’s Affirmation: I am a star. You are a star. We shine even brighter as a pair.

How does being in the spotlight compare to your experience of being alone with yourself in private?

Astrology July 9, 2011: Venus Sextiles Jupiter, Uranus Goes Retrograde

COSMIC WATCH:

“The greatest pleasure of life is love.” Euripedes

After having a rather rough go, the last few days, affectionate Venus in nurturing Cancer finally catches a lucky break today with her warm sextile to abundant Jupiter in earthly pleasures Taurus. Venus-Jupiter is often synonymous with “luck in love.” So, hopefully, this royal duo will be able to wave their magical wand for us and graciously shower us with a bonanza of romance. Or grant whatever is our heart’s fondest desire.

This aspect is also grand for entertaining and parties, with Venus also ruling our social life and Jupiter liking to do things on a lavish scale. Jupiter actually rules and symbolizes matters of royalty, and we have William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, reportedly partying with the glamorous “Hollywood Jet Set,” this weekend, in LA. This is Kate Middleton’s first visit to the States. Wouldn’t you just love to be a “fly on the wall” at one of the planned celebrations?

The Moon is also in passionate Scorpio today, magnifying our desires and ramping up our ability to seize upon and claim the rich, intrinsic pleasures of the moment.

Of course, life is never simple and uncomplicated. We also have “wild child” Uranus, the planet of personal freedom and rebellion, stationing retrograde today in self-willed Aries. Whenever a planet changes direction, it tends to call more attention to itself (Uranus stays retrograde until December 9th). Although, we also have intellectual Mercury in theatrical Leo forming a stabilizing sextile to disciplined, conforming Saturn in diplomatic Libra today. This suggests to me that we do have the mental ability to “check” or “censor” our performances (Leo), if need be. Mercury sextile Saturn is excellent for both focused concentration and serious discussions.

Too, it may be an especially good day for talking about “affairs of the heart” (perhaps popping the big question?) with Mercury in romantic Leo and Saturn in matrimonial Libra. Too, lest we forget, we also have the indulgent, and very endearing, Venus-Jupiter sextile.

In the News: Sadly, I learned, this morning, that former first lady, Betty Ford, passed away, late yesterday, at the age of 93. I grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan and for many, many years, Betty’s husband Gerald, our late president, served as our district’s congressman. My late mother also worked at Herpolsheimer’s department store with Betty Ford in Grand Rapids, in the 1940s, where Betty was employed as a model.

Tragically, this week in Grand Rapids, there was also a mass shooting that made world headlines. Seven people were killed. The shootings occurred at locations near where I have relatives living. My brother was also at a memorial last night for the shooting victims when all of a sudden, the event also turned into a memorial for Betty Ford, when it was learned that she had passed.

We had Venus opposite Pluto yesterday, an aspect that, historically, has coincided with the passing away (Pluto rules death) of prominent females (Venus rules women) in the collective. Pluto is also in Capricorn, the sign of government officials. Venus in caring Cancer also denotes Betty’s humanistic legacy with respect to establishing the Betty Ford Center in California for treatment of drug and alcohol addiction. Betty helped to take away the shame of addiction by boldly coming forward and publicly announcing that she had substance abuse problems at a time when it was unheard of for public officials to do so. Betty Ford was a pioneering Aries Sun, with her Moon in compassionate Pisces.

“My makeup wasn’t smeared, I wasn’t disheveled, I behaved politely, and I never finished off a bottle, so how could I be alcoholic?” Betty Ford.

Full Moon in Mick Jagger’s Leo February 18, 2011 Astrology Horoscope

“Fear not, we are the nature of the lion, and cannot descend to the destruction of of mice and small beasts.” Elizabeth I

There’s a Full Moon at 29 degrees of “drama queen” Leo on February 18, 2011 (3:36 am EST). Too, this “Hollywood-style” Full Moon does not disappoint in the “drama department” with it’s exact opposition to glittery, seductive Neptune in brotherly love Aquarius. Full Moons traditionally deliver “full illumination,” although with Neptune’s veiled ray amplified here, it may be a challenge to decode what’s really going on around us now.

Ensnaring Neptune governs fantasy, illusion, dreams, delusion, sacrifice, surrender, self-doubt, escape. While the theatrical Leo Moon craves praise, applause and ego recognition. It wants to wield formidable power. It could be that this Leo Full Moon serves as a barometer to check the health of our ego. Also, our susceptibility to flattery. Too, it may have the net affect of making us more humble, which isn’t such a bad thing either. Additionally, this is a highly creative Full Moon especially for film-making, acting, writing, dancing, music, painting.

(BTW, at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards show on Sunday night, the transiting Moon was at 28-29 degrees of idea-minded Gemini forming a trine to imaginative Neptune and a square to genius Uranus, and the level of creativity at the event was at a fever pitch. We have an equivalent energy here, perhaps even more so with the “entertainment” Leo Moon at 29 degrees.)

Individually, we will want to check out what house in our horoscope this lunation is falling in to see where all this captivating, “suspenseful drama” and creativity will be playing out.

Also at the time of this Full Moon, Love Goddess Venus in professional Capricorn is exactly square to withholding Saturn in romantic Libra. It may be that, like Leo, Mick Jagger, we have to try harder to get “satisfaction” in the bedroom or the boardroom.

Overall, too, I think the song Satisfaction is a perfect tie-in with this particular Full Moon, in showy Leo, with the emotional Moon’s agonizing opposition to “ego-denying” Neptune. A time when we may be meeting up with a certain amount of rebuff no matter where we turn. We could also experience some existential discontent or disillusionment with the general nature of things in the collective (Aquarius). Of course, if we keep focused on our core values and personal mission statements, we’ll be just fine. Eventually. Once this Neptunian curtain is lifted and Mick Jagger finally takes center stage, along with the anchoring, Keith Richards. 🙂

Venus Sextile Neptune: The Young and The Restless Debuts

“A tramp, a gentleman, a poet, a dreamer, a lonely fellow, always hopeful of romance and adventure.” Charlie Chaplin

Couldn’t let this day pass without mentioning that December 23rd is the 37th anniversary of television’s, The Young and The Restless, which debuted back in 1973, and is still going strong.

Today, we’re also checking out some of the cosmic energy of that day, to see why maybe that show has endured for so long. And why it was perhaps able to “hook us” in the first place.

Mackenzie: “What does this mean – “wedding vows”‘?

J.T.: “Oh, Brittany wants me to help write hers.”

Mackenzie: “She wants you to help her?”

J.T.: “What, you didn’t think Bobby knew how to read or write?”

Mackenzie: “That’s mean.”

J.T.: “Yeah, it’s not far from the truth. But don’t worry.  I’m sure he’ll hire whoever writes those flyers for the strip club. It’ll be like the raunchiest vows ever, and I’m sure the minister will probably pass out.”

(From The Young And The Restless)

On December 23, 1973, when The Young and The Restless debuted, Venus, the mythological “Goddess of Love,” was exactly sextile “Fantasy” Neptune, the planet which also rules the television camera. Venus was in friendly, freedom-loving Aquarius. Aquarius is also a sign known for broadcasting and technology. Neptune was in wanderlust Sagittarius, a sign that is additionally very good at spinning imaginative tales and story lines. (The emotional Moon was also in “alibi” Sag that day.) The sextile is normally regarded as a more harmonious aspect of “opportunity.”

Venus-Neptune aspects tend to coincide with a mindset in which we are much more willing, and really wanting, to believe in “fairy tales” (escapist soap opera plots). We are also more inclined to want to search out an “ideal love.” No matter that the object of our desires may be “imaginary,” or otherwise “off limits” to us. Perhaps a hunky character on a soap opera?

Most of us have had imaginary lovers, at some point, in our lives. Wild fantasies about persons “unavailable” to us? George Clooney, of course, immediately comes to mind here. However, we existentially do know, in this particular case, that this “Clooney pipe dream,” may actually some day still come to pass. It could be that it just takes many more earthly incarnations to materialize.  But, it’s okay. We have the time. Rome wasn’t built overnight. Great things take time and careful planning. And, sometimes, a lot of fervent prayer. Along with daily visualization, meditation, and fasting. Occasionally we have to strike back-alley deals, too, with questionable saints, in order to get our needs met. (Would you believe, Neptune also rules saints and gurus, priestly-type figures? This is true.)

That is how Venus-Neptune tends to operate. It seldom ever “surrenders the dream.” Rarely quits on the “romantic illusion.” It will go to unbelievable measures to secure or retain its fantasy. Interesting to note here that Neptune also rules our “addictions.” Neptune, coincidentally, additionally depicts “real-life people” who are employed as actors, or other persons professionally engaged in careers that stoke our imagination, such as poets, dancers, and artists. So, we had more of a proclivity to “fall for” the “make-believe” characters in the show, with the program debuting when it did.

Neptune is also our magical “link to the divine” and whispers to us of having a “divine compassion” for all. Venus-Neptune can be highly compassionate. But, on the flip side, there is also the proclivity to “play martyr or victim.” Elements, too, that work very well in television-based soap operas.

Too, love maven Venus was in a tight harmonious trine to transforming, controlling Pluto in Libra when this show premiered. With Venus-Pluto, we usually fully experience all the highs and lows of romantic drama. The compulsiveness, the obsessions, the deepest of passions. Venus was also applying to a conjunction with expander Jupiter in Aquarius, considered to be one of the most romantic and fortuitous aspects of all, as Jupiter grows whatever it is paired with and aligned with romantic Venus, our love and affection knows no bounds. The Young and The Restless characters will also never run out of people to have “real or imagined” affairs with.

Lastly, Virile Mars, ruling sex and our physical desires, was also deposited in impetuous Aries ( the sign that it rules) at 29 degrees, the very last degree of the sign.  Making the young, “very restless.” And, ever more reason to watch them on TV.

“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” Michelangelo

It could very well be that we, too, will be seeing angels scurrying about today with “Mental” Mercury, ruling our conscious mind, exactly sextile to “Master Guru of Illusion” Neptune (8:14 am EST), which rules our powerful imagination and the creative urge. Fantasy Neptune also fittingly depicts here our “urge for spirituality” and “link with the divine.”

Mercury, which also governs communication, already is deposited in “I Believe We Can Fly And Touch The Sky” Sagittarius, a sign which characteristically endows us with a deep faith and an infectious zealousness for whatever it is that we believe in. Sagittarius, in particular, speaks to us about our “higher beliefs” and “moral convictions.”

With Mercury in evangelizing Sag, we’re wanting to shout it out on a mountaintop, all manner of our beliefs, so any non-believers will hopefully hear our message and become saved by our mesmerizing gospel. Neptune, of course, just adds the psychedelic purple icing on the Mercury in Sag celestial cake.

“Yes, folks, take my word for it. We have angels flying around everywhere, from every persuasion, from every ethnic and cultural background. Some are even celebrities with their own talks show like Oprah Winfrey. Oprah may, indeed, even be getting ready to interview one or two of them for her last season, as some of the angels reportedly also have Hollywood agents.”

Mercury also rules the phone and email, and other communication channels, and aligned to fanciful Neptune in Electronics Aquarius, there is a good chance that we could also be hearing from that other “Heavenly Angel” today, George Clooney, checking to see if we’re still available for a date this Saturday night. 🙂

“George, I would really like to go out with you tonight, but I have so much vacuuming to do. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get away. Sorry, George.”

Besides evangelizing and vacuuming, here are some other Neptunian activities favored today with the linkup to Mercury: film-making, acting, writing, photography, poetry, music, songwriting, painting, sculpting, studying dreams, wine-making, creating costumes, masquerade balls, psychic development, visualization, prayer and meditation, volunteering, experimenting with makeup, purchasing cosmetics and perfumes, sauna treatments, walks on the beach, befriending fishes, dancing with mermaids “under the stars.”

“Nagging is the repetition of unpalatable truths.” Edith Clara Summerskill

COSMIC WEATHER:

It’s Day Two of official “Elvis Week,” August 10th-16th. (Been celebrating it a little earlier around here.)

We’re suffering through the likes of the nagging, picky “Virgo Moon” today.

Many of us are also still dealing with the fallout of the tumultuous “Venus-Pluto” aspect, which may have forced some of us to have to deal with the issue of ex-lovers (Venus) “re-appearing from the dead (Pluto),” making our lives even more miserable. Others of us are holed up in hotels because our short-fused spouses have kicked us out. Today, though, it’s the nagging that’s really getting to us.

“People are starving! Losing their homes! And all you want to do is bitch about the frickin’ toothpaste tube! Stay out of the bathroom, if you don’t like the way I squeeze the darn’ tube!

And stop going on incessantly about the way I chew my food! You’re lucky there’s even food on the table! I work my butt off, and for what???

And don’t even get started on my snoring!”

Heartbreak Hotel was the first #1 pop record by Elvis and the best-selling single of 1956. When it was released on January 27, 1956, the Moon was in dramatic Leo and Karma Lord Saturn, in expansive Sagittarius, was in a close, harmonious trine to Genius Uranus, perched at the very beginning of entertaining Leo. Saturn here served as the “form” or “container” for the launching of a whole new, “cool sound”  (Uranus) that was uniquely Elvis Presley and that helped spawned the formation of “rock and roll.”

In the News: With “Venus square Pluto” on Monday a story surfaced in the media about some woman in Canada who reportedly “faked cancer’ for two years and bilked supporters out of thousands of dollars. As I told you earlier, with “Venus-Pluto,”  we often hear about situations which involve the “manipulation” of our emotions, for whatever reason. Symbolically, too, Venus rules “women” and Pluto denotes “death,” so this particular story also played out on that level as well, with the woman “feigning” a potentially “terminal illness.”

Additionally on Monday, we heard the sad news about the dramatic, Oscar-winning actress Patricia Neal (symbolized by Venus), dying (Pluto) at age 84 of lung cancer. Patricia received her Oscar for her role as a housekeeper to the Texas father  (Melvyn Douglas) at odds with his selfish, wayward son (Paul Newman) in Hud.

Patricia Neal, an ambitious Capricorn with a pioneering Aries Moon, had led a heroic life. Successfully overcoming the ravages of a series of strokes, at age 39, in which she had to relearn how to walk and talk, she later would return to the screen to earn another Oscar nomination and three Emmy nominations. In a 1988 autobiography, Neal likened her life to that of a “Greek tragedy.” In astrology, we may say it encompassed a good measure of the tragedy and sorrow of  “Venus-Pluto.”

Patricia’s death, occurring under the “Venus-Pluto umbrella,” is also a reminder of the more spiritually “regenerating” elements of this aspect. In the face of declining health, Patricia never gave up.  In fact, she endured and triumphed, and managed to come back stronger than ever. Venus-Pluto, at its noblest, is indicative of  “emotionally rising from the ashes.”

Famous August 11th Leo Birthdays: Alyson Stoner (17), Hulk Hogan (57), and my baby boy “Boo” (7), depicted down below, next to his Shih-tzu sister “Minnie,” who’s missing her head.  Since I’m losing my mind, it’s all good.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

We may want to hide the toothpaste.

“Cosmic Word of The Day”: Wedding

Definition: 1) the act or ceremony of marrying; marriage; nuptials 2) the act or an instance of blending or joining, esp. opposite or contrasting elements

Origin: bef. 900; ME; OE weddung

COSMIC WEATHER:

It’s finally the grand day of Chelsea Clinton’s “storybook wedding!” A widely heralded event that has much of the collective fixated. And, most assuredly, the proudest moment in both Bill and Hillary’s lives.

Chelsea Clinton, the sweet little Pisces girl that America and the rest of the world has lovingly watched grow up into adulthood, has now become an educated, sophisticated, and beautiful young woman, poised to unite forever with the man of her dreams, Marc Mezvinsky, a Sagittarian investment banker on Wall Street, who owns an apartment on Fifth Avenue and who also hails from political bloodlines. The two have known each other since childhood, which makes today’s occasion even more sentimental and romantic, in my opinion.

Exclusively for this celebrated gathering, Lord of Karma Saturn, which is exalted, and at its finest in matrimonial Libra, becomes a dramatic focal point in the glorious heavens with an exact, energizing conjunction from impassioned Mars, something that hasn’t happened since 1982, when Chelsea was only two years old, and well before the beaming “Father of the Bride,” Bill Clinton, became the 42nd U.S. President.

Wherever Mars travels by zodiacal sign, he accentuates the affairs ruled by that sign, and now, newly-arrived in the marriage sign of Libra, and conjoined with Wise Old Father Time Saturn, Mars has all of our eyes riveted on Chelsea’s pending union.

Also for this singular occasion, Jupiter, the planet of abundance, is in trailblazing Aries, and in exact square to Power Mogul Pluto, stationed in the prestigious, achievement-oriented sign of Capricorn the Goat, an influence that has no doubt played a central role, along with Protocol King Saturn, in social Libra, to fashion a much-ballyhooed guest list for this event that includes some of the most powerful and potent “movers and shakers” on the planet, all converging at the same point, at the same moment in time, in Rhinebeck, New York.

This influential Jupiter-Pluto aspect is also getting “A-guest-list support” today from the Exciting Aries Moon, which is tossing a harmonious trine to the very Glamorous and Regal Leo Sun, which is further helping to reportedly reign in a bevy of Hollywood stars and celebrities for the wedding, including Steven Spielberg, Barbara Walters, and Oprah. Also, the glitzy congregation is said to include the incomparable Queen of Song, my gal, Barbra Streisand.

A digressing footnote here: Barbra’s horoscope and my own natal horoscope are very similar.  Both of us are Taurus Suns, with Leo Moons conjunct lone wolf Pluto, and both of us have fiery, adventurous Aries risings. Her rising is 8 Aries, while mine is 2 Aries. I believe our personalities and senses of humor are also very similar from what I have publicly seen of her over the years in the media.  I also totally approve  of her taste in men: James Brolin! If only I could be so lucky, romantically, and had just a mere fraction of her material wealth, I know I’d be one happy camper.

Back to the wedding. Adding even more to the fanfare today, Inspirational Jupiter, which also rules religion and philosophy, is additionally conjoined now with Futuristic, Diversity Agent Uranus, deposited in Pioneering Aries. While this memorable wedding ceremony is taking place between Chelsea, who is Methodist, and Marc, who is Jewish, there will simultaneously, no doubt, continue to be a goodly number of bloggers, and others weighing in, on the matter of interfaith marriages, an issue that Mars and Saturn in Libra, is also helping once again to resurrect now, with their activating opposition to both Jupiter and Uranus. It has not been revealed whether Chelsea will follow her husband’s conservative Jewish faith.

In some ways, pitting the old, customary, Saturnian traditions against the rapidly changing, new, Uranian order of things. Even the wedding menu is largely vegetarian, and the wedding cake, reportedly gluten-free. Although, there will still be the meticulously orchestrated, majestic pageantry of the wedding itself, so dutifully safeguarded by Protocol-Minded Saturn in partnership Libra. Chelsea Clinton will most likely, too, surely look stunning in her $25,000 Vera Wang bridal gown.

“I think with our problems with hopelessness and cynicism that (the solution) ultimately has to come from the young people themselves.  We’ve got to realize we are the future and we make of our future what we make of it, and ultimately we have to do it for ourselves.” Chelsea Clinton

“Many are the stars I see, but in my eye no star like thee.” English saying

Enjoy your Saturday!

Congratulations, Chelsea and Marc! Best Wishes and Much Love. Also, truly happy for Bill and Hillary.

I’ll be back by here again soon.  My schedule is hectic, but leave a light on. For both me and George Clooney, of course. Miracles do occur. The main thing is that we continue to fervently believe in their possibility with every fiber of our being.

Adios!

Cosmic Word Of The Day: Fame

Definition: 1) widespread reputation, esp. of a favorable character; renown; public eminence

Origin: 1175-1225; < L fama, talk, public opinion, repute

COSMIC WEATHER:

We’re craving our fifteen minutes of fame.

This is because Mental Mercury leaves Homebody Cancer for Rock Star Leo today (12:30 pm EDT), a sign that is profusely addicted to being on stage and hogging the spotlight.

Also, since Mercury in Leo is harmoniously trining Innovative Uranus in Get Discovered Aries – a very powerful creative alignment that is also synonymous with sudden fame and notoriety – we’re considering taking the plunge and auditioning for none other than the likes of Simon Cowell himself, the Universe’s guaranteed pathway to instant fame and riches for wannabee stars.

Simon reigns supreme in this area partly because in his personal horoscope, he has his musical, lovable Venus and controlling, penetrating Pluto, together in the picky, “masterfully analytical” sign of Virgo the Virgin, providing him with profound,  instant ability to size up singing talent, while simultaneously calling into question some of his more private, bedside predilections.

We’re also not going the traditional audition route with Simon – standing in line for hours. What we’re going to do instead is audition for him by way of “telepathy,” since Uranus rules intuition and telepathy.

Another thing we believe working in our favor today: Talented, Voice-Ruler Venus is at the tail end of Performance Leo, separating from an exact opposition to Disillusioning, Undermining Neptune in Brotherly Aquarius. This planetary aspect is perfect here because it endows us with a very deep need and overwhelming desire and capacity for vast amounts of humiliation and embarrassment before the collective.

“Fame is the thirst of youth.” Lord Byron

Famous July 9th Cancerian Birthdays: Courtney Love (45), Tom Hanks (53), O.J. Simpson (62)

“If you have to have a job in this world, a high-price movie star is a pretty good gig.” Tom Hanks

That’s exactly the sort of gig we’re seeking today, Tom. Can you help us out?

Enjoy your Friday!

Hope you make it through to Hollywood.
