Cosmic Weather:

“It is always the novice who exaggerates.” C.S. Lewis

Mercury in Pisces squares Jupiter in Sagittarius (3:40 pm)

While we may be very jazzed up about our ideas, beliefs, and points of view today, including, perhaps, very eager and ready to perform full-fledged Jupiterian proselytizations on anyone who will give us just five minutes, chances are that we’re not quite ready for prime time yet! At least, that is, our ideas, etc. might not be fully ready for their big Broadway stage debuts. Had to clarify that! Of course, we’re ready! We’re always ready! 🙂

Often with Mercury square Jupiter in play, there’s a tendency for us to overpromise, overexaggerate, and bloviate, in general. We’re also more prone to overlooking key details because we’re less inclined to want to concentrate our attention now. Still, though, today can be a fun, stimulating time for conversation, or for writing. Especially in the first half of the day, as this energy is applying.  That’s because, again, there’s a certain largeness to our thinking now that feels very positive. Our mental faculties are also being s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d. Mercury in Pisces is also already in its shadow phase, getting ready to turn retrograde on March 5, so we’re going to have this Mercury-Jupiter square, two more times, before it’s all over. Hopefully, we’ll get to see more of this evolving picture, each time it occurs. Eventually knowing exactly what to do! Anyway, hope always springs eternal here!

Venus Conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn (10:49 pm)

“Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don’t know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishings.” Anais Nin

As we move more into the second half of the day, we’re likely going to be feeling more of the emotional intensity of the Venus-Pluto conjunction. This aspect can make us especially want to go deeper with our relationships, and to look at things that we may have not wanted to face before. But, now, we’re likely wanting to get to the bottom of things, maybe about ourselves, another person, or a situation, possibly because we no longer want to be living a lie, or an illusion. Or, things may have also reached a critical point now, where there’s no longer even an option of our turning back.

Additionally, we may also want to be healed now from whatever has been weighing us down, or holding us back. There’s definitely a lot of raw emotion out there now. And, ideally, it can be used for transformational purposes. But, first, we must scale to the depths and be willing to look at, unflinchingly, the true nature of things. See what comes up for us from below, and then release it, or try let it go.

It’s also interesting now that, with this Venus-Pluto conjunction taking place in authoritative Capricorn, Pope Francis is hosting a historic summit on combatting clergy sex abuse in the Catholic Church. On the shadow side, Venus-Pluto is sometimes associated with sexual abuse. Pluto specifically governing such things as sexually deviant or hidden or clandestine forms of behavior, violating sexual taboos, fetishes, obsessions, and even hate crimes. It can also translate into our wanting to be on a power trip of sorts. Wanting to, perhaps, exert maximum control over others for our own selfish purposes or gratification. Or, on the flip side, we may encounter or hear about individuals now who behave in this manner. Today, Pope Francis (b. 12/17/36) also has, in his natal chart, transiting Mars exactly conjunct his Uranus in Taurus in his tenth house of career and public standing. Mars-Uranus often signifying a powerful period when a person is called upon to initiate (Mars) radical reforms (Uranus). Uranus right now, too, is at 29 degrees of pioneering Aries, a critical degree in which we often feel compelled to take last-minute or final action on something that has been building for a while. What’s more, Pope Francis has his natal midheaven at 0 degrees of Taurus! So Uranus is getting ready to cross over it, in a few days. It’s likely that today’s summit is just the beginning, or a sampling, of what is probably going to be unfolding, in the future, around the Pope, and with the church, for a long time to come.

On another level, this can also be a time when we get more reality-focused about our finances, including possibly wanting to take measures to turn things around for the positive.

UPDATED: More Venus-Pluto high-profile type stories in the headlines today! This afternoon, singer R. Kelly was reportedly charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, some involving underage victims, according to US media reports.  Also, Patriots owner Robert Kraft was, the billionaire owner of the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, was charged today with two counts of soliciting sex as part of a wide-ranging investigation into prostitution and suspected human trafficking in South Florida (New York Times).

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.” – Howard Thurman

COSMIC WEATHER:

Connection queen Venus, symbolizing the urge for love and beauty in our lives, is conjunct Pluto in Capricorn on Feb. 22 (at 10:49 pm). With this aspect, relationships can potently transform us now. We may also have more of a need for intense emotional experiences. What has been buried and hidden in our subconscious (Pluto), our deepest desires and feelings, could also rise to the surface now.

Too, Venus-Pluto can, on occasion, bring us our “soul mates,” or important alliances from our past. Even new, short-term relationships are more likely to impact us now on a deeper emotional level.

On the shadow side, because Pluto also symbolizes our urge for power and control, this energy sometimes finds us acting manipulatively or being too possessive, especially if we feel that our relationships are being threatened or undermined in any way.

On a professional level, this influence can also be excellent for networking as we are likely to be more persuasive.

Astrology April 26, 2011: “Early Bird Catches Worm” Moon Sextile Jupiter

COSMIC WEATHER:

“A pessimist is a man who thinks all women are bad. An optimist is one who hopes they are.” Chauncey Depew 🙂

It could be the “early bird catches the worm” today with the Aquarius Moon’s early morning sextile to fortuitous Jupiter in “trailblazing” Aries (7:29 am EDT). The futuristic Moon in Aquarius is a perfect conduit for visionary Jupiter, the planet of expansion and optimism. With Moon-Jupiter we tend to be more upbeat emotionally, which may explain why we often attract more positive things to us under this influence.

Jupiter also governs our sense of humor and when aligned with the Moon, there can be more of an ability to see things from a humorous perspective, which can also be a good way to help endear other people to us. I think most of us like to be around people who can “lighten us up,” or make us laugh, don’t you?

The Moon will be in Aquarius all day again today, not really making any other major aspects, the rest of the day, after her sextile to Jupiter. Shortly after midnight tonight, she will shift into dreamy Pisces.

Wanted to also briefly mention that we are getting ready to have another “high-drama” Venus-Pluto hookup tomorrow (3:19 am EDT), which can often be a real “soap operish” type aspect in which we are tempted to go to extremes, especially in romance. Venus rules love and money. Pluto rules power and manipulation. This influence is already starting to apply so we may want to monitor ourselves today and make sure that we are not acting too pushy, accusatory, or self-serving. (We can also encounter boorish types who act this way with us.)

Also, it’s probably a good idea to hold off  issuing “Pluto” ultimatums for a few days. Venus-Pluto tends to fire up our emotions and passions.

“Love comes when manipulation stops.” Joyce Brothers

Famous Birthdays April 26th: Michael Damian (49), Carol Burnett (78). BTW, Carol has both her Moon and Sun in down-to-earth, easy to relate to Taurus, and her Sun is exactly conjunct her Venus in Taurus, endowing her with a lot of warmth to her personality and also giving her a strong personal power of attraction (Venus). Sun-Venus aspects also can denote artistic ability.

She also has Mars and Neptune conjunct in exacting Virgo which can be a phenomenal force for stoking the creative juices (Mars energizes whatever it touches and Neptune rules the imagination, also acting). Too, Carol, has her Moon trine Jupiter (sense of humor), a very similar aspect to the Moon-Jupiter sextile influence that we have in operation today, an aspect which I also happen to have exact in my chart. Of course, Carol Burnett is a legend in the comedy world. I have admired her all my life for being so talented and funny.  In my own way, I also try to be lighthearted and optimistic, and I can usually manage to find the humor in things, but I’m certainly no comedian. How about you? Can you usually see the humor in situations? Do you think others find you funny? Do you have a Moon-Jupiter linkup in your horoscope? Or perhaps Mercury-Jupiter or Sun-Jupiter (equivalent type energy)? Hopefully, too, we’ll all find something to laugh about today.

“A well-developed sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life.” William Arthur Ward

“Healing yourself is connected with healing others.” Yoko Ono

COSMIC WEATHER:

Moon bids farewell to trailblazing Aries for the soothing, open box of dark chocolates that is the self-indulgent Taurus Moon (6:23 am EST). It could be that we are moving a little more slowly today, as we are fondly cocooned in our satin sheet paradise. A sorrowful tragedy that some of us have to leave our plush pad for the drill of the 9 to 5 workaday world. 🙂

Although, love goddess Venus is also in a tight squeeze with passionate Pluto (8:49 pm EST) in employer Capricorn. This Venus-Pluto conjunction could make for some rather interesting “intimate scenarios” in the workplace, as well as providing for a steady stream of hot gossip at the water cooler. We may want to keep our ears perched for first-hand details of some real-life soap operas!

On a more “noble” level, however, Venus conjoined Pluto can also be a beautiful time when we are capable of being healed or transformed (Pluto) by the power of love. An inspiring example of this: Yesterday, on the eve of this energy (and also the same day that wounded healer Chiron entered compassionate Pisces) it was reported in the media that baseball coach Tom Walter, at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, (close to where I live) had donated a kidney on Monday to Kevin Jordan, a freshman outfielder on his team, and effectively saved his life. Isn’t that a touching story? I was thinking when I sat down to write this blog this morning, wouldn’t it be wonderful if each one of us could also find a way to use this transforming cosmic energy somehow to help heal or to give hope to someone else today? Wouldn’t that be cool?

“I had no idea that mothering my own child would be so healing to my own sadness from my childhood.” Susie Bright

“Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned.” Peter Marshall

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Moon continues in action-packed Aries! We still have the glorious “green light” to go ahead with our scintillating plans and projects.

Too, it may be that the early bird catches the worm, as the Moon is making invigorating aspects to both pioneering Mars (7:16 am) and the power-generating Sun (9:10 am) in idealistic Aquarius early in the day.

These aspects bode well for taking a leadership position, especially within the framework of a group setting (Aquarius). Overall, we are in a more self-confident mood, as well as more competitive (Mars).

Also, love goddess Venus is inching closer to her conjunction rendezvous with passionate Pluto tomorrow (8:49 pm) in career-sign Capricorn. This short-term influence is potentially a biggie and can be a gamechanger with respect to transforming/altering our relationships and making us more aware of our emotional needs and desires.

“Sometimes it is the person closest to us who must travel the furthest distance to be our friend.” Robert Brault.

Finally, Chiron, the wounded healer, re-enters the compassionate waters of Pisces today where it will reside until 2018-2019, ideally sensitizing more of us to the needs of others, especially the downtrodden or the underdog.

Pisces focuses our attention on issues of civil rights, alternative or holistic healing methods and spirituality or mysticism. The Pisces experience revolves around removing real and or imagined boundaries.

“It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself. Serve and thou shall be served (Pisces).”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Connection queen” Venus, symbolizing the urge for love and beauty in our lives, is forming a powerhouse conjunction to “passionate” Pluto in “worldly ambitious” Capricorn on Feb. 9, 2011 at 8:49 pm EST. Our relationships (Venus) can serve as potent transformers (Pluto) for us now, with Pluto governing the urge for regeneration or renewal.

We potentially have more of a palpable need for intense emotional (Pluto) experiences with this configuration, especially on the romantic and social fronts (Venus). But, perhaps, even in the boardroom (Capricorn). What has been buried and hidden in our subconscious (Pluto), our deepest sequestered desires and feelings, could suddenly rise to the surface now, filtering through to our conscious awareness, beckoning us for immediate processing or at least closer scrutiny.

It could also be a turning point time for us, in terms of coming to an understanding about what we need from others in the way of love or intimacy. May also include some “aha” moments regarding what we may be able to give or commit to where others are concerned. Too, Venus-Pluto can, on occasion, bring us our “soul mates,” or important hookups from our past (Pluto). Even new, short-term relationships are more likely to impact or transfix us on a deeper emotional level now.

Because Pluto also has to do with the urge for power and control, the shadow element of this aspect could find us acting more on the manipulative or possessive side, especially if we feel that our relationships are being threatened or undermined in any way. Venus-Pluto can be very jealous and demanding. Especially in authoritative Capricorn.

Too, sometimes we try to selfishly capitalize on our relationship ties with Venus-Pluto. There can be more of an emotional desperation about us for varied reasons. We may not even consciously know what is driving us (subconscious Pluto).  Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, for example, was reportedly “caught” trying to sell access to her former husband Prince Andrew on a day when Venus-Pluto was forming a tight aspect in the sky.  Remember that incident? Many of us were really taken aback by that event. Simultaneously, it was a tragic thing to witness, the descent of Fergie all captured on film. Also, several months ago, the weird story of the “Balloon Boy” unfolded with a Venus-Pluto transit. That was another story that emotionally gripped many of us and played upon our sympathies. I can still see that balloon crossing the sky in my mind’s eye over a rural section of Colorado. Like so many, I was personally hoping that if there was a little boy inside the balloon, that he would be alright.

In another instance and on another level, Lady Gaga, who could be described as very “Venus-Pluto,” for her magnetic sensuality and provocative stage persona as an artist (Venus rules artists and entertainers), walked away during an awards ceremony in Hollywood last year with, I believe, eight awards, effectively “stealing the show,” on the very same day that Venus and Pluto were exact in the sky. A perfect day to “make a big splash” before the collective.

Venus also rules money and possessions. Aligned with domineering Pluto (Pluto denotes other people’s resources), we want to make sure that we are in general agreement with our mate or partner on how to spend or invest our joint resources before making major moves on our own now. With Venus-Pluto there could also be opportunity to transform or overhaul our financial situation, but we do want to make sure that we do the necessary due diligence here before shifting things around.

Too, with Venus-Pluto conjoined in status-conscious Capricorn, this may be a pivotal time to network on the business or professional front, as we are potentially more capable of making a potent (Pluto) impact on others. We, of course, do need to keep mindful of the image that we are projecting outward and that it frames us favorably. We definitely do not want to be “acting out” too emotionally in public, as that could actually destabilize our image now, or notoriously besmirch our reputation (Capricorn).

“When men and women are able to respect and accept their differences then love has a chance to blossom.” John Gray

Love goddess Venus enters stabilizing Capricorn on February 4th, where she will be firmly anchored until March 2nd. With Venus situated in cautious Saturn’s terrain, and Saturn in Libra, also in Venus’ home turf (mutual reception), there is more of a pragmatic quality to our relationships. We are less interested in “one night stands” now, unless they may fit into our long-range strategic planing (Saturn). 🙂

While Venus in Capricorn can be personally ambitious and also needs to be highly regarded and respected, she is generally seeking something more enduring romantically, perhaps for all eternity. Saturn rules time, so the focus is naturally more on longevity and the long-term commitments. Venus in Capricorn can be very faithful. Also, very passionate, once she dedicates herself, although initially on the surface, there may be a certain reserve or shyness, due to Saturn’s more sobering influence.

Figuring prominently into the equation for Venus in Capricorn: We prefer not to get involved with losers! What is meant by that is, we are looking for partners who will not be content to just loaf around. Instead we want alliances with those types of persons who are willing to “pull their own weight,” and bring something tangible to the plate. Capricorn is the sign associated with status, reputation, and achievement.  Self-made types who hold visible positions of power may hold special appeal for us, in the coming weeks ahead. Also, Venus in Capricorn often has a thing for older persons. Fabulous news for the over 50 crowd!

Venus also rules money, possessions, and our values. In Capricorn, we tend to be more conservative in our outlay of cash, and also are searching more for quality and substance, over quantity and frills. We are more interested in investments that are traditional and tried-and-true. Capricorn also rules our professional life and Venus here may bring more success to us on the career-front, as it is very benefic in influence. Networking to further our careers is highly recommended, especially on February 9th, when Venus conjuncts powerhouse Pluto, a time when we can make a formidable impact on others, if we play our cards right.
