“I think space exploration is very important.  I think there is very intelligent life on Mars.  I believe that Martians are spying on us from the bottom of the ocean.” Annabella Sciorra

“Cosmic Word of The Day”: Hallucination

Definition: 1) a sensory experience of something that does not exist outside the mind, caused by various physical and mental disorders, or by reaction to toxic substances, and usually manifested as visual or auditory images; 2) a false notion, belief, or impression; illusion; delusion

Origin: 1640-1650; < L hallucination (s. of (h) hallucinatio) a wondering of the mind

COSMIC WEATHER:

We’re enjoying an onslaught of socially adventurous energy today via the uninhibited Aries Moon trining love diva Venus in ardent Leo.

We’re also privy to a deluge of fanciful illusions and hallucinations with the Moon’s intimate sextile to creative, illusion-weaver Neptune in futuristic Aquarius.

As a result of a convergence of these mind-altering, relationship energies, we’re expecting a spectacular spaceship landing and a close encounter with space aliens to take place sometime today.  Most likely this event will occur before the Moon’s ingress into practical Taurus at 8:30 pm EDT.

We understand these space aliens are coming to Earth with the express purpose of collecting Uranus in Aries and re-directing him back, with plenty of alcohol, into the eventual Piscean sea for his long retrograde journey which will continue through early December.

“The only thing that scares me more than space aliens is the idea that there aren’t any space aliens.” Ellen DeGeneres

Famous July 5th Birthdays: Shane Filan (31), Huey Lewis (58)

Enjoy your Monday!

Tweet me when the hallucinatory spaceship lands.

Patricia’s Daily Astrology Horoscope June 10, 2010: Inventive Energy

“Our inventions mirror our secret wishes.” Lawrence Durrell

It would be so helpful if someone could invent a delightful “speed dial feature” that I could add to my Crystal Ball that would allow me to expedite my fortune-telling capabilities and thereby free me up for other fun-filled activities such as vacuuming or maybe extensive removal of offensive tea or coffee stains from my soiled laundry.

It is highly embarrassing and bad feng shui energy to have stained laundry in the clothes hamper when you know that, at any minute, it could get discovered by space aliens. I hardly sleep at night anymore, I am so worried about the unsightly stains and my lack of time to remove them and how this dilemma may keep me from voyaging to new galaxies.

Too, all my life I have wanted more time for vacuuming, and I’m talking serious vacuuming here involving the use of several dirt bags. Done properly, and with deliberate, heartfelt effort, vacuuming can be such an intimate and incredibly mind-altering experience, especially when you live alone, and you’re female, and can seductively draw the curtains all the way back.

I know, too, that I would rather listen to the sound of a vacuum than even to a symphony by any of the world’s greatest composers. There’s just something about a vacuum pitch that is so reassuring and comforting. So primal.

As a woman, too, I know that my loyal vacuum will always be there for me to hold on to, unlike some of the dirt bag men I’ve known in my life who eagerly sucked out my contents and then suddenly vanished into thin air, not even leaving me a trail of dust to spit on and vacuum up afterwards.

The reason I am opening up and finally sharing with you my private vacuum wish today, something I have wanted to reveal to you for quite a while now, and also assorted details of my previous romantic encounters, and fervid desire for a speed dialer for my Crystal Ball, is because today in the cosmos we are deeply, deeply privileged to have impinging upon our cerebral consciousness the divine movement of “Thought Keeper” Mercury into intellectually-curious Gemini (1:41 am EDT), the communication sign, that it proudly rules.

Mercury here elevates our curiosity, accelerates our thinking, and makes us ravenous for information and conversation.

We also have an opportunity for colossal discoveries and the possibility of new inventions now because this Winged Creature will be aligning today with both expansive Jupiter and genius Uranus via the stimulating sextile aspect, assuming everyone has taken their Viagra, of course.

So, Mercury-Jupiter-Uranus together as one, spells B-I-G Day for the collective for brainy ideas that can change and transform the world. I am very excited about the possibilities of this energy.

By the way, here’s one obscure piece of astrological trivia for you that sort of fits right in here: Triple A Motor Club, the travel-related entity, came into being on a creative Mercury sextile Uranus day. Mercury pertains to both communication and transportation. Uranus, as most of us know, ushers in the new. Triple A was a pretty big deal, and more novel (Uranus) concept for travelers at the time (Mercury) – and it’s still around.

Meanwhile, the Moon changes from placid Taurus to Mercury’s very own restless Gemini sign today (at 6:12 pm EDT).  The evening time may bring an even more accelerated pace to the cosmic energy, but we are also more potentially combative with a square to Mars. Vacuuming is highly advisable as an intelligent way to vent now. Especially for single women who have done their laundry.

“I’m not going to vacuum until Sears makes one you can ride on.” Roseanne Barr

This Update:

Just in to my attention from reporter Mercury in Gemini sextile Jupiter/Uranus in discovery Aries: Oldest example of a leather shoe has been discovered by archaeologists in a cave in Armenia.  It supposedly predates Stonehenge by 400 years and the Pyramids of Giza by 1,000 years. Researches say it was made from a single strip of leather and was made to fit the wearer’s foot. Wonder if it may need a little vacuuming? Can you imagine all the microscopic dirt and dust that must be on it. We will probably need a powerful industrial-size vacuum for this cleaning, don’t you think? Something energetic Mars in cleanaholic Virgo can easily handle.

Ironically, when I woke up this morning, I was thinking how it may just be our very karma and higher destiny now to clean and discover beaucoup amounts of new dirt all around us with this Jupiter/Uranus discovery energy and passionate Mars in pristine Virgo to guide us. I’m sure curious Mercury in Gemini today, too, will be able to scope out all the unlimited filth about each and everyone of us that’s fit to print and put on the internet.   What a mind-boggling day to be a reporter!

Also, on a more serious note, with this powerful energy for cleaning now, maybe some genius will finally be able to figure out how to clean up the tragic mess in and along the Gulf. Mars will be in thorough Virgo until the end of July, perfect for devising new clean up strategies, especially along side Jupiter and Uranus.

Event in history on this date:

John F. Kennedy signs into law “for equal pay for equal work” for men and women on June 10, 1963. Pioneering Mars was in Virgo, the sign of work, conjunct (together with) Uranus, the freeing planet of equality.  How cool is that?

June 10th birthdays:

John Edwards, Eliot Spitzer (Wow, something in the cosmic drinking water for June 10th?)

Also, adding a new daily feature here.  “The Cosmic Word for the Day.” Today’s Cosmic Word can actually be two words or one word: “Dust mite” or “Dustmite.” With Mercury, ruler of words, entering dual-bodied Gemini today, I thought it would be appropriate to have a word with two spellings.

Enjoy your Thursday! Find a way to unearth your dream and make it fit into your life today along side that prehistoric shoe.

Patricia Thompson’s Astrology May 14, 2010: Equal Rights Military

“First learn the meaning of what you say, and then speak.” Epictetus.

Can you imagine, if each of us abided by that simple philosophy, how much quieter our world would be, in terms of sheer stillness? Especially on a day when the Moon enters Gemini, the “communication sign?”

Anyway, some food for thought today as the Moon switches from determined Taurus to breezy, noisy Gemini (9:18 am EDT). With the Moon here, we are much more restless and curious and want to be on the go.

We are also, theoretically, more talented at multi-tasking now with the duality of The Twins. However, with both mental Mercury and the Sun still weighed down in focused Taurus, this may not quite be the case today.

Still, a good day for errand-running, attending to emails, correspondence, reading, short trips.

And good for speaking, with some qualifications as noted above.

Event in history on this date:

On May 14, 1973, (Frontiero v. Richardson) the U.S. Supreme Court approved equal rights to females in the military. Included here, the Court decided that benefits given by the U.S. Military could not be given out differently because of gender.

Check out the cool cosmic energy backdrop for the Court’s decision then:

1) Expansive Jupiter was traveling through Aquarius, the futuristic sign of the collective, that is concerned with equality for all. Usually, wherever Jupiter is we have increased opportunities for the affairs ruled by the sign it is passing through, so hence, more chance for equal rights.

2) Saturn, Keeper of the Status Quo, was in intellectual Gemini and exactly harmoniously trine to liberating Uranus in Libra, the sign of the courts.  Uranus in Libra helped to broaden out the former way of thinking (Saturn) here and put the issue of equality on the table.  (Uranus rules Aquarius.)

3) Transformational Pluto had just entered court-ruling Libra. On the day of the decision, transiting Venus in Gemini was also favorably trine to Pluto. Venus depicts females. So, we correspondingly had a sweeping ruling involving women by the Court. Pluto is also synonymous with historic firsts.

4) Finally, feminine Venus was also square masculine Mars in Pisces, so we had the “gender issue” and “battle of the sexes” symbolically playing out here. Mars also rules the military. Squares meanwhile force actions.

Too, Mars in compassionate Pisces is more of a “spiritual warrior” placement. It is more concerned with fighting for civil rights when it is in this sign, as idealistic Pisces represents disenfranchised groups, or persons who are suffering. Mars therefore was temporarily more aligned with the cause of the female underdog passing through Pisces than it might normally be.

Enjoy your Friday! Remember, “know” the meaning of what you say, before you speak it.

Patricia Thompson’s Astrology May 12, 2010: Bob Dylan

“Wisely, and slow.  They stumble that run fast.” William Shakespeare

Some jeweled wisdom there that we’d be well-served to embrace this very day as the Moon enters leisurely Taurus (2:48 am EDT). The slower moving Taurus Moon has a way of soothing our weary soul now, giving it peaceful refuge.

The Moon also connects harmoniously to Mercury adding some measure of safety and stability to our thinking and ideas.

The Moon also reaches out to healing Pluto.  Pluto’s activated ray is able to permeate our physical being, intimately renewing our life force all the way down to the cellular level. A good day to go for a massage. Or to move about in water.

Event in history on this date:

On May 12, 1963 Bob Dylan (born May 24, 1941) was suppose to perform on the Ed Sullivan Show but instead walked off the set when network censors at the last minute would not let him sing the song that he had been earlier cleared to perform. The song that generated all the ruckus was Talkin’ John Birch Paranoid Blues a satirical take on the ultra-conservative John Birch Society.

While Bob Dylan had a niche following at the time, this appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, the highest-rated variety show in America then, would clearly have been a big door-opener for his career.  Yet, he turned it down.

So, what in the heck did he have in his stars that day that gave him the wherewithal to just walk away?

Fascinatingly, Dylan had transiting Mars (combative) in Leo, the sign of entertainment, exactly square to his natal Saturn in Taurus (stubborn) in his fifth house of self-expression and personal creativity.

Mars square Saturn is one of those classic astrological aspects when we tend to bump heads with authority figures.  Mars rules our aggressive urge and speaks to us of our passions.  Saturn meanwhile represents the status quo and the tried and true establishment.  Saturn tries to curtail what we are passionate about (Mars) and puts all manner of restrictions around us. Dylan wasn’t going to have any of it.  Dylan’s horoscope indicates he has a tendency to be extremely stubborn and set in his ways with four planets conjoined in the fixed sign of Taurus and all in his fifth house of talents.

As destiny would have it, Dylan’s principled stand was probably the best strategy he could have ever taken for his career as all the publicity from his walking off the set got him noticed in a big way.  Also helping out here, transiting Saturn in individualistic Aquarius was harmoniously trine to his Mercury shortly after the Ed Sullivan controversy.  Saturn favorable to Mercury gives us firm, supportive footing for expressing our ideas.

Enjoy your Wednesday.  Keep that Shakespeare quote in mind.

Moon continues in anchoring Taurus supplying us with a goodly amount of “grounded energy.” We are able to focus in an unobstructed way. Harmonious influences from Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter add to the pleasure and comfort that we take in our surroundings. Connections with others are more enjoyable and effortless.

“There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children.  One is roots; the other, wings.” Hodding Carter.

In the News:

President Obama ordered new rules Thursday allowing for “same sex hospital visits.”  The new regulations give gays and lesbians the right to visit their partners in the hospital and have input into their care.  This marriage benefit has been something that has not always been extended to gay couples.

“Gay and lesbian Americans…are often barred from the bedsides of the partners with whom they may have spent decades of their lives-unable to be there for the person they love, and unable to act as a legal surrogate if their partner is incapacitated,” Mr. Obama said in his order according to the online Wall Street Journal.

These new rules come on the heels of Saturn’s retrograde back into the sign of Virgo (Virgo rules health) and its opposition to change-agent Uranus in Pisces (Pisces rules hospitals).  Saturn pertains to rules and established protocol while oppositions bring about “turning points.” Uranus, as ruler of the expanded, liberated collective Aquarius, would be representative of gays and lesbians here.

Rebel Uranus characteristically attempts to overturn the structure that Saturn has put into place, especially when that structure has the affect of “stifling or repressing” individual self-expression. In this instance, Uranus in Pisces served as a catalyst for changing the rules (Saturn) that hospitals (Pisces) have traditionally followed, regarding the dissemination of health care services (Virgo).  Uranus in Pisces triggered the need for new policy with a wider application among a diverse population group. The present Saturn opposition to Uranus formally “finalized” this policy change.

Additionally supportive for the implementation of these new rules: Venus, which rules love relationships, and Mercury, which governs thinking, are conjoined now in practical, workable Taurus. Both planets are also harmoniously sextile to expansive Jupiter in Pisces, the sign of hospitals. Venus aligned with Jupiter is traditionally regarded as one of the “luckiest aspects” in astrology, bringing about favorable conditions and circumstances.  So, on the surface, this would seem to be an especially good time (Jupiter) to usher in new guidelines (Mercury) pertaining to “intimate couples” (Venus). Jupiter’s ray is such that it tends to have a broadening or growth affect on the areas or activities that are ruled by the sign that it is passing through.  Jupiter intrinsically represents and fosters new growth opportunities and generally coincides with a more optimistic outlook.

Peace and love, everyone.  Enjoy your Friday!

“Pleasure is the object, duty and the goal of all rational creatures.” Voltaire.

We are moving along but at a slower, more leisurely pace. Our need for adventure is coupled with a good measure of common sense and caution as the Moon cavorts through practical, yet self-indulgent Taurus.  This is an ideal time for evaluating the pros and cons of our new plans and for calculating costs, budgetary matters.

We are also weighing the itinerary of perks available to us if we expend energy in a new direction. For instance, will we still have time for a peaceful stroll in the park? What about being able to fit in time for a facial and foot massage?

An ocean of opportunity may be in front of us. On the surface, that sounds cool. But, logistically, if we go swimming in it, will we be able to make it back home in time for dinner? Also, what about the water temperature? We can’t go out if the water is too cold.

The longer we mull everything over, it may actually make more sense for us to go sailing instead of swimming. That way, we can conserve our physical energies.  Too, we’ll be able to eat while we’re exploring.  We may even be able to fit in a rejuvenating nap.

We could even wait until the Moon gets into Gemini before venturing out.  With Venus and Mercury both getting ready to join the Moon soon, it may be more fun to have a beach party now.

Memorable event in history on this date: April 15, 1985 – South Africa decides to repeal sex and marriage laws against whites and non-whites. At the time, expansive Jupiter was transiting humanitarian Aquarius, elevating the collective understanding and broadening capacity for diversity and tolerance. Also, the trail-blazing Aries Sun was exactly quinqunx Saturn in Scorpio.  The quinqunx is an adjustment aspect. Saturn in Scorpio suggests blockages or restraints regarding sex.  The precedent-setting Sun here successfully forced fearful Saturn in Scorpio to get out of its comfort zone and venture out into a new arena.
