Astrology June 7, 2010: Mars Enters Virgo, Quincunxes Jupiter and Mars

“Liberty exists in proportion to wholesome restraint.” – Daniel Webster

Cosmic Watch:

After eight months in proud, creative Leo, the Energy planet Mars ventures into practical, analytical Virgo (2:11 am EDT) where it will stay until the end of July. Virgo is the sign of work and service, so Mars here can be very productive and very capable in a mentoring capacity. Ideally, we will be able to get a lot accomplished in the next several weeks with Mars systematically moving through this fastidious sign.

Also, to find out what area in your life Mars is impacting you, check to see where Virgo is in your horoscope.  The house that holds the sign of Virgo, is where you have the Mars momentum going to bat for you now.

On the shadow side today, however, the energy around us may feel a little more stifling than supportive to our cause. This is because it is a transition day with assertive Mars shifting to more restrained Virgo and then forming an awkward aspect (quincunx) to indulgent Jupiter and rebel Uranus in spontaneous Aries. Plus, we also have the Moon in impetuous Aries!

Historically, we have sometimes seen more demonstrations, even outright revolt with Mars-Uranus aspects as we are often quicker to react to what is taking place around us now. We may also feel the need for more personal freedom, at this time, as well as a desire to embrace sudden changes that disrupt daily routines.

Too, on the shadow side, Mars quincunx Jupiter can sometimes rachet up fanaticism or intolerance towards those who hold beliefs, ideologies that are different from what we espouse. It may be wise to keep in mind that our liberty is often judiciously preserved as a byproduct of restraint. That our own self-development is often contingent on exercising some degree of self-control and perhaps intentionallyseeking to minimize our knee-jerk responses to hot-button issues

Astrology June 6, 2010: Jupiter Enters Aries, Conjuncts Uranus

“The secret to a rich life is to have more beginnings than endings.” – David Weinbaum

Cosmic Watch:

The cosmic weather changes dramatically today with both the Moon and benefic Jupiter entering the adventurous, fast-paced sign of Aries.  The last time Jupiter was here was 12 years ago.

Jupiter will stay in Aries till early September, at which time it will retrograde back into Pisces. (Jupiter returns to Aries in January 2011 where it will stay until June 2011.)

What makes expansive Jupiter’s ingress into Aries so powerful now is that it is going to be joining innovative, scientific, individualistic Uranus here on Tuesday (exact 7:25 am EDT 6/8/10), something that hasn’t occurred since 1928.

Jupiter – the planet of opportunity, abundance, philosophy, the pursuit of knowledge, long-distance travel – potentially acts to magnify whatever type energy it is configured with. Since unconventional Uranian energy often manifests in spontaneous, highly charged ways – like a bolt of lightning out of the blue – there is a huge potential for exciting technological breakthrough developments/sudden revelations in both our personal/collective lives, especially since this conjunction is taking place in pioneering Aries, the sign of new beginnings. (This is a longer-term influence that will last for the next couple months, although it will be exact on Tuesday.)

Astrology June 5, 2010: Pisces Moon, Mars Opposes Neptune

“Our life is frittered away by detail…simplify, simplify.” – Henry David Thoreau

Cosmic Watch:

We may be well advised to heed that quote today as the emotional Moon drifts through dreamy, dissolving Pisces and assertive Mars in Leo continues to oppose transcendent Neptune. What may work best for us now is to simply let go and relax. Take time to get re-acquainted with that still small voice inside.

Too, the pace will possibly quicken quite noticeably on Sunday, so we may want to just chill out and enjoy the down time while we can.

Also, more challenging Mars-Neptune aspects are thought to sometimes weaken or dissipate our physical energies, so rest can be very regenerative/extra beneficial now.

Astrology June 1, 2010: Moon Conjuncts Uranus, CNN’s Debut

“To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.” – Thomas Edison (Aquarian)

Cosmic Watch:

The Moon ventures into innovative Aquarius (1:08 am) and aligns with futuristic Uranus in Aries, shortly thereafter.  We’re potentially more inclined to want to break some Saturnian rules today and stretch beyond our current limits as towing the status quo is of far less consequence to us now.  We are poised to change things up and make some waves!

On This Day in History:

Speaking of waves, it was thirty years ago today – June 1, 1980 -that Ted Turner’s CNN hit the airwaves.

At the time of the debut, the Sun (the core of the enterprise) was in newsmaker Gemini, which rules news reporting and information-gathering). The Sun was also in an exact square to pioneering Mars in analytical Virgo.

Sun-Mars days typically usher in new beginnings. The Sun-Mars energy also gives a sense of urgency and adventure, along with a desire to want to go and be where the action (Mars) is. Mars rules the pioneering urge.

Gemini’s planetary ruler, Mercury, which governs speech and communication, was also exactly sextile to abundant Jupiter, the planet of opportunity and expansion.  With Mercury-Jupiter, there would likely never be a loss for words or things to report on for CNN

When CNN launched, expansive Jupiter was in Virgo, along with Mars and Saturn.  Virgo is perfect for in-depth news analysis, as this sign is all about dissecting the facts and information that Gemini has collected.  The descriptive keyword for Virgo is “analysis.”

In the physical body, Virgo rules the intestines, the part of the body that breaks down food particles so that they may be digested.

Practical, stabilizing Saturn was also in a supportive sextile to inventive Uranus in transforming Scorpio.  Uranus rules television broadcasting.  Saturn here provided firm footing for the new Uranian venture. Ideally, we want to have positive Saturn aspects, as Saturn gives longevity and worldly success.

Additionally, Saturn was exactly square to Neptune in Sagittarius, the sign of long-distance travel and faraway lands.  Neptune rules images and television cameras. CNN became a pioneering platform for broadcasting news images from around the world.

From the beginning, CNN also helped build and fostered a sense of Neptunian oneness.  Neptune is all about dissolving the borders that separate us, both personally and collectively. With CNN, we were finally able to see and hear about what was going on around the world and I think that made us feel more connected in our humanity.

Astrology May 31, 2010: Neptune Turns Retrograde, Watergate

“What does mysticism really mean?  It means the way to attain knowledge.  It’s close to philosophy, except in philosophy you go horizontally while in mysticism you go vertically.” – Elie Wiesel

Neptune, the mystical planet that is associated with meditation, psychic development, and higher consciousness, turns retrograde today in forward-thinking Aquarius and stays that way till November 6th.

Astrologically, Neptune is often thought to communicate with us in the still of night through our dreams. So it could be that we may want to pay closer attention to our nocturnal dreams now and see what kind of symbolic information we may be receiving. Maybe keep a dream journal by our bedside.

Under Neptune’s ray, we are also potentially more creative and imaginative, as well as intuitive.

The Moon, meanwhile, continues along her course in practical, earthy Capricorn, ideally a grounding energy and antidote to the transcendent Neptune energy.

“I never see what has been done; I only see what remains to be done.” – Marie Curie

On This Day in History:

On May 31, 2005, Watergate figure “Deep Throat” is revealed to be W. Mark Felt a former FBI agent.  In the stars that day, the transiting Sun was in the news and communication sign of Gemini exactly square to disruptive Uranus in Pisces.

Uranus is associated with breakthrough discoveries as well as sudden twists and turns.  Pisces also governs illusion and deception. The electrifying Sun-Uranus energy was, therefore, seemingly a fitting backdrop to crack this mystery!

Also assisting here at the time, triggering Mars in dissolving Pisces was one degree from an exact square to undercover Pluto in truth-seeking Sagittarius. Pluto is linked with spies/espionage and spotlighting secrets.

May 31 birthdays: Brooke Shields, Clint Eastwood, Joe Namath.

Enjoy your Memorial Day. Pray for our soldiers and their families.

Astrology May 30, 2010: Saturn Stations Direct in Virgo

“There is only one success – to be able to spend your life in your own way.” – Christopher Morley

Saturn, which has been retrograde since January 13, stations direct today in perfecting Virgo. Saturn denotes hard work, responsibility, and all the corresponding structure that we erect in our lives as a result of our various efforts. Saturn in Virgo also encourages us to use and manage our talents/skills effectively.

Saturn’s perceived forward momentum signals that we now have the green light to move ahead with our goals and dreams.  Ideally, we may also start seeing some of our previous labors beginning to pay off!

“I see my path, but I don’t know where it leads.  Not knowing where I’m going is what inspires me to travel it.” – Rosalia de Castro

The Moon in Sagittarius resonates to the inner explorer in each of us today. And, with Uranus now crossed over into the new frontiers’ territory of Aries, new desires are beckoning us.  Old dreams are rekindled.

In current news:

The U.S. House voted Thursday to let the Defense Department repeal the ban on gay and bisexual people from serving in the military, potentially a big step toward ending the 1993 ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ law.

This vote came with liberator Uranus – the planet associated with social equality – at the tail end of Pisces.  Pisces is a compassionate sign that is often linked with civil rights issues. Too, with change-agent Uranus now in Aries, it’s possible that we see big changes with the military, which Aries rules.

Enjoy your Friday!

Astrology May 27, 2010: Full Moon in Sagittarius, Uranus into Aries

“Live your beliefs and you can turn the world around.” Henry David Thoreau

Cosmic Watch:

With the Full Moon in archer Sagittarius (7:08 pm), we potentially focus our attention on our beliefs and convictions. Living authentically from our own point of truth is often regarded as the greatest gift that we can give to both ourselves and the world.

Too, the world around us may begin to change in bold and daring ways now with the entrance of liberating, revolutionizing Uranus into pioneering Aries, the sign of personal identity. (at 9:50 pm EDT).

Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, depicts new beginnings, particularly new personal beginnings. Uranus’s ingress into Aries ideally gives us a chance to free up how we think and feel about ourselves, potentially allowing us more options/possibilities.

Uranus will be in Aries for 7 years (although it will retrograde back into Pisces later this summer for a while before it firmly establishes here early 2011).

“Soul meets soul on lover’s lips.” Percy Bysshe Shelly

Cosmic Watch:

The Moon in Pisces heightens our sensitivity and puts the spotlight on our feelings and compassion. Our romantic fantasies may also turn into reality as relationship Venus sextiles passionate Mars. This is a great influence for meeting new people and also for creative and artistic projects. Both of these influences permeate the weekend.

Venus harmonious to Mars can also help to smooth over tensions in existing relationships while the Pisces Moon adds an extra measure of soothing healing and nurturing.

In the News:

Wall Street suffered its biggest ever intraday drop yesterday falling 998.5 points!  In one ten-minute stretch, the Dow slid nearly 700 points.  While it is still unclear what happened here, a trading glitch is suspected.

The Wall Street sell-off also came in the wake of mounting fears of debt defaults in Europe.

Astrologically, we still have Mercury retrograde in the financial sign of Taurus.

Also, the last few days, the transiting Sun in Taurus has been making an exact square to volatile Mars.  The Sun-Mars influence, while it only lasts about a week, can have a major impact while it’s in play. Mars often ignites or triggers new events, usually of an unsteady nature.

“Fear tends to manifest itself much more quickly than greed, so volatile markets tend to be on the downside.  In up markets, volatility tends to gradually decline.” Philip Roth

Astrology May 6, 2010: Luna is in Liberating Aquarius

“There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can circumvent or hinder or control the firm resolve of a determined soul.” Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Cosmic Watch:

We shape our reality with our thinking.  We also give away our power when we feel that outside forces are more powerful than we are.

With the Moon entrenched in detached, analytical Aquarius, it’s a good day to take the temperature of our thinking and to reflect upon the kinds of ideas that we are putting inside our heads, particularly the ideas about ourselves and our own capabilities.

Perhaps we have too many recycled, fear-based thoughts and not enough empowering thoughts of what we can do.

Maybe we are afraid to try new things because we are scared of ridicule or rejection.

Aquarius is about freeing ourselves from self-limiting beliefs and ideas. It is about going beyond the herd mentality and cultivating the power of our own original thinking.

Often the simple act of brainstorming or talking over ideas with friends can help us to see things in a new light.

“Should we all confess our sins to one another we would all laugh at one another for our lack of originality.” Kahlil Gibran.
