Astrology September 17, 2011: Venus Opposes Uranus

COSMIC WATCH:

A convergence of “roguish activity” above us today: Mental Mercury semisquares hotheaded Mars; Mars quinqunxes psychedelic Neptune; lovable Venus opposes wacky, erratic Uranus; and the empowering Sun sesquiquadrates extravagant, boastful Jupiter. Perhaps it’s a good thing that the maternal Moon is still luxuriating through silk pajama Taurus, as it may help to mellow us out, or at least benevolently shield us from some of these maverick forces now on the prowl.

While we are encouraged to seek out more fun and stimulation in our social lives today (Venus-Uranus), we may want to keep an eye on our intimate encounters and make sure that we are not “rocking the boat” too much by insisting on “doing our own thing,” regardless of the consequences.  Venus-Uranus can have us craving emotional excitement and freedom at all cost. We can also suddenly get bored with our partners and or be attracted to persons who are very different from us, especially those who would be described as more non-conforming types or outright rebels.

Too, we may want to rein in our spending and not go overboard with impulsive purchases today, particularly buying outlandish items, as Venus also governs money and aligned with oddball Uranus, our tastes could be pretty whimsical and wild. The Sun-Jupiter aspect can also dubiously inspire intemperate or wasteful behavior. Additionally, the Mars-Neptune “escapist influence” is lurking in the shadows, ready, willing and able to magically transport us into “la la land,” along with spaced-out Alice and her slew of white, Haight Ashbury rabbits, if we’re not careful. Such a complex day! 🙂

Famous Birthday September 17th: Elvira, “Mistress of the Dark,” turns 60! Fascinatingly, in her birthchart, she has sexy Mars in theatrical Leo in her tenth house of career dramatically conjuncting mysterious Pluto. This influence, no doubt, gives her amazing ability to wistfully maneuver through cavernous realms. Both Mars and Pluto are also aligned with fantasy Neptune in Libra in her 12th house of hidden resources. Neptune rules photography and television.

Alluring Neptune is also near her beauty-loving Libra Ascendant (the Ascendant governs our physical appearance), helping to make her photogenic and very hypnotic. Cultivating patience helps to preserve our equilibrium this morning, in face of the restless, Aries Moon’s square to impulsive Mars, its planetary ruler, in protective Cancer (11:07 am EDT). This more challenging aspect can also trigger defensive posturing, particularly if we are feeling threatened by uncertain elements in our environment.

Cosmic forces should become easier to subdue once the Aries Moon sextiles serene Neptune in humanistic Aquarius (1:10 pm EDT), an invitation to demonstrate our caring and compassion. COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon remains in enterprising Aries, although, its monthly opposition to resistant Saturn in relationship Libra (12:26 pm EDT) may mean that we have to do some yielding to others before we can pass “Go” and collect that expectant $200. 🙂

However, we may not be sidelined for too long, as we also have mental Mercury in industrious Virgo forming a harmonious trine to “Santa Claus” Jupiter in indulgent Taurus (9:44 pm EDT). Jupiter generously gifting us with big ideas so that we may grow and prosper. This optimistic aspect can also make us extra persuasive in speech and writing. It also favors learning, religion, legal matters, and publishing.

Romantic Venus also cascades into diplomatic Libra (10:40 pm EDT), one of the two signs that she rules. Now that she has a home-court advantage, hopefully, she will be able to help smooth out, or put to bed, any of our thorny, relationship issues. This is also a very artistic placement for “Lady Love,”  favoring remodeling or beautifying projects. Sweet Venus transits Libra until October 9.

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Moon’s ingress into adventurous Aries (2:50 am EDT) encourages us to take on more risk, or at least try some experimentation, especially since the Moon is also conjunct daring, innovative Uranus (9:00 am EDT) a planet known for “breaking the rules” and testing the limits. Accordingly, a good morning to perhaps deviate from our daily routines, or maybe challenge ourselves to fashion new responses as a way of stretching our wings and seeing what’s possible.

The Moon’s potent square to reforming Pluto in Capricorn (12:38 pm EDT) also helps to heighten our awareness while simultaneously powering our emotions. With Moon-Pluto, we tend to feel things more deeply, however, we are also more prone to extreme behavior which could sabotage our own self-interest, if we’re not careful.  Too, we will want to avoid power struggles with this influence and aim for cooperation instead.

Additionally, Moon-Pluto is good for detective work, especially since we also have intellectual Mercury still trining Pluto which can make us aware of hidden elements. Moon-Pluto is also perfect for pruning away or recycling whatever is no longer needed (including undesirable habits), or for busying ourselves with refurbishing projects.

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon’s ingress into innovative, change-oriented Aquarius (5:43 am EDT) makes a case for trying out new approaches or strategies as we navigate our day. In fact, we are privy to a double-dose of cutting-edge Aquarian energy, at least the first half of the day, as we also have the Moon favorably sextiling Uranus, the planetary ruler of Aquarius (11:54 am EDT). Uranus governs science and technology and its ray is often implicated in breakthrough discoveries. This planet and the sign of Aquarius are also linked with group activities and humanitarian causes. Too, we still have the Sun and Venus in service-oriented Virgo. Virgo is also very research-minded and analytical, which should serve as a supportive backdrop for the inquisitive Moon in Aquarius energy both today and tomorrow.

Of course, to keep us on our toes, the Universe is also mischievously waving a big red flag at us today via mental Mercury’s third and final opposition to fantasy Neptune.  While this influence can be a windfall for endeavors that rely on imagination, such as art, music, and photography, we do need to be more astute regarding the people that we trust and or let into our inner circle. Also, maybe more skeptical about all that we hear now, especially if things seem a little fishy or too good to be true. Neptune, on the shadow side, is linked with deception and or delusion, including the self-generated kind.

News Update With an Astrological Spin : With the Aquarian Moon exactly sextile hi-tech Uranus mid-day, it was announced that Google has agreed to buy Zagat for an undisclosed price, the longtime guide to restaurants around the country (NYT.com). Too, we do still have enterprising Mars in food-related Cancer, which rules the restaurant industry.

Daily Intention: I am looking at my world from a fresh perspective today and eagerly mapping out new avenues to explore.

The waxing Moon continues its stroll through “accomplishment” Capricorn and its easy trine to lovable Venus in “workplace” Virgo (12:22 pm EDT) bodes well for our being able to play nice with others while simultaneously pursuing our own powerhouse agendas. Too, it may be wise to keep in mind now that as we help others get what they want, this helps to ensure that we will also get what we require, as we all tend to want to do business with more agreeable (Venus) types who also show genuine interest in our affairs.

Of course, later in the day, the Moon’s monthly opposition to warrior Mars in “home alone” Cancer (4:36 pm EDT), stands ready to complicate our lives, if we choose to go down the prickly path of impatience and or defiance. It could be, too, that we have to work out some kind of amiable balance here, between our home or family interests and our business or career needs, especially if things are feeling somewhat disjointed.

COSMIC WATCH:

The “fussy” Virgo Sun encourages us to have “all our ducks in a row,” but the adventurous Sagittarius Moon makes a case for more spontaneous behavior. Our challenge today may be to figure out how to manage these two conflicting desires.

Too, we may have a fervent need to convert others to our enlightened way of thinking now, as the Sadge Moon is known to be more than a little preachy. With that said, if we dare to bring up religion or politics today, or other hotbed issues, we also need to be aware that we could be unleashing a floodgate of opinion. 🙂

People in the News: Rolling Stone, Keith Richards, was interviewed on “CBS Sunday Morning” today. It was a great interview, really quite revealing. In his horoscope, Keith has a “freedom-loving” Sagittarius Sun with a “perfectionist” Virgo Moon, kind of an inverse of the very energies that we have today with the Virgo Sun and Sadge Moon. Of course, most of us know about Keith’s “wild past,” but today in the interview he said that he is really “just like everybody else.”

He also apparently has a green thumb and loves to garden at his posh Connecticut estate which was showcased a little on the program. Perhaps it is the organized and methodical Virgo side of his nature that has helped him to patiently sow so many successful seeds, be it in his garden or via his legendary musical compositions. Virgo Moon individuals can be very self-directed and hard-working. Keith’s Moon in Virgo is also exactly conjunct his 10th house of career, suggestive of someone who is a master craftsman. His assertive Mars in intellectual Gemini is also conjunct non-conforming Uranus, an aspect of brilliance and originality, but also indicative of great restlessness and or rebelliousness. Of course, many of his musical creations also seem to mirror that inner discord.

Also, the Moon’s agreeable 60-degree hookup with loving Venus in discreet Virgo (3:09 pm EDT) helps to boost our personal power of attraction, while providing us with a delicate gateway to reveal our deeper emotions and feelings. A good time to breathe new life into old relationships. Or, for trying out new approaches or strategies with others.

Too, the hard-working Virgo Sun’s fortuitous trine with propitious Jupiter in stabilizing Taurus (12:00 am EDT Saturday) stands ready to reward us with a generous harvest now. This is traditionally considered one of the “luckier” aspects in astrology. This enthusiastic influence also helps to brighten our perspectives and endows us with big ideas that can lead to exciting possibilities down the road.

In the News: It is being reported today that the U.S. is poised to file lawsuits against more than a dozen big banks accusing them of misrepresenting the calibur of mortgages they packaged and sold during the housing crisis (HuffPost Business). Fascinating headline from an astrological perspective since today’s Moon in Scorpio presides over credit, debt-collection and mortgages. Also, we have, of course, Uranus still square to Pluto, Scorpio’s ruler, as a background influence, which can incite bold or daring moves to get what is “owed to us.”

Too, Jupiter rules both legal action and the banking industry and we have the exacting and correcting Virgo Sun forming that trine aspect to Jupiter in money-ruling Taurus today. Reportedly the U.S. government is trying to lasso in billions of dollars from the lawsuits. Jupiter has a legacy for being linked with “big bucks” dealings.

The Moon wraps up her stay in gracious Libra with a trine to idealistic Neptune (12:35 pm EDT) inspiring us to pursue our noblest dreams and also heightening our psychic sensitivity.  This is also a very good time to make compassionate or charitable gestures to those who may need a helping hand.  As the ruler of
caring Pisces and the higher octave of loving Venus, Neptune helps to foster
more of a selfless quality in us.

Mid-afternoon, the Moon’s shift into intense Scorpio (2:48 pm EDT) ignites our passions and tenders deeper emotional responses to our environment. Scorpio also helps us to go in depth with matters and is excellent energy for any research or investigative work. Also for healing and transformation.

We are actually treated to a double-dose of Scorpio energy tonight as the Scorpio Moon harmoniously sextiles Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio (10:55 pm EDT). A few months ago when there was a snake on the loose for a few days from some zoo in New York city, it was finally located when the Moon was exactly sextile Pluto, which can often reveal to us hidden information.
