COSMIC WEATHER:

“Sometimes you have to let everything go – purge yourself if you are unhappy with anything…whatever is bringing you down, get rid of it. Because you’ll find that when you’re free, your true creativity, your true self comes out.” Tina Turner

Well, we would probably be very wise to heed Tina Turner’s advice today and consider eliminating “what isn’t working for us” now, as “bulldozing” Pluto, associated with death and rebirth, stations retrograde in “structural” Capricorn, the sign of business, career, and government. Pluto will stay retrograde until mid-September.

Purge, reform, renew, recycle, makeover, transform, de-clutter. These are all Pluto keywords and, again, they are all descriptive of the types of activities that we may want to consciously engage in now in a bid to “liberate” our true self. (Also, we need to pay attention to the house that Pluto is retrograding in, in our personal horoscopes, for more of a frame of reference regarding where the purging or renewing may be taking place for us on an individual level.)

Too, often around the time that a planet stations retrograde, is when we really glean the “real gist” of the cycle on an internal level. We may also simultaneously see “telling” things happening in the collective that reinforce these Pluto themes home to us now.

Also, this time around we have energizer Mars in “new beginnings” Aries applying to a potent square to Pluto (this aspect will be exact on Monday). Mars square Pluto can denote a time of intense, sustained effort that can really reconfigure the playing field around us. It is a time when we can notably get ahead, if we seriously apply ourselves. Pluto is very concentrated, focused energy and with enterprising Mars beaming down on it, this ‘focus” is potentially magnified or strengthened.

On the shadow side, this very same Mars-Pluto aspect can sometimes backfire for us and have very negative or destructive consequences, if we are acting too much on the level of ego (bereft of conscience), and are too controlling or forceful (Pluto) with respect to pushing our agendas at all cost, even in the face of mighty resistance.

We probably need to be reminded again, too, that Pluto does rule “the underworld.” It can also indicate “extremism” and extremist groups or factions, including terrorist elements. As I am writing this blog this morning, a top news headline is about a police search for a 61-year-old homeless man who is allegedly wanted in connection with the bombing of a synagogue on Thursday in Santa Monica, California. Suffice it to say, Pluto also rules bombs and explosive devices.

Pluto also rules “turning points” and with Mars in sports-ruling Aries (again the Mars-Pluto square), we saw baseball player, Manny Ramirez, suddenly retire yesterday after allegedly and reportedly failing a drug test in spring training. (Pluto’s activated ray often brings about “transparency,” it shines a spotlight on activities that have previously been hidden.) We are also awaiting a verdict in the Barry Bonds‘ perjury trial now.

On a more positive note, a shutdown of the U.S. government was also averted late last night as Democrats and Republicans finally agreed to a budget deal. Pluto rules debt and red ink and is stationed in governmental Capricorn. All week, we have heard graphic reports, too, of what a “scaled-down” (Pluto) U.S. government would look like. Also, this week, House Republican, Paul Ryan, who chairs the House Budget Committee, unveiled his own budget blueprint for a massive downsizing of the U.S. government that would also reportedly abolish Medicare and “gut” (Pluto) Medicaid. (Extremist Pluto at work?)

Astrology April 7, 2011: Chatty Gemini Moon, Relationship Venus Quinqunx Saturn

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Bad human communication leaves us less room to grow.” Rowan D. Williams

The pace of life notably quickens today as the Moon vacates steady Taurus for restless Gemini (7:22 am EDT), the chatty sign of communication. A time when we are more apt to want to articulate our feelings (Moon) and to also want to make “small talk,” and to kid around. The Gemini Moon is normally a period when we heartily enjoy sharing our ready stash of “one-liners.”

(Here’s one: “The man bought his wife a water bed. She calls it the “‘Dead Sea!'”)

As soon as the Moon enters Gemini, she forms a tight square to psychedelic Neptune in dreamy Pisces (7:32 am EDT), so it could be that our early morning communications are a little “spacey,” or somewhat weird or distorted (more chance of some confusion). Although Moon-Neptune does turn the volume up really high on our creative imagination and pleasure-laden fantasies. Soon afterward we also have a chance to showcase our originality, even our genius, when Luna makes an opportunity sextile to liberating, inventive Uranus in adventurous Aries (10:19 am EDT).

Another lunar highlight of the day is the Moon’s buoyant sextile to energizer Mars in Aries (3:56 pm EDT), a time when we will want to be fully engaging both our minds (Gemini) and our bodies (Aries) in things we enjoy. The Moon-Mars link also incites our competitive instincts.

Additionally, we have relationship Venus in idealistic, caring Pisces forming an awkward 150-degree aspect (quinqunx) to hard-liner Saturn in Venus-ruled matrimonial Libra. It could be that we are feeling somewhat uncomfortable or victimized (Pisces) by the demands (Saturn) that others (Libra) are placing on us now. We may need to reach some kind of compromise to preserve the peace (Libra).

Interestingly enough, the “compromising” sign of Libra also rules the U.S. Congress and today things are down to the wire with respect to needing to reach some kind of agreement regarding the federal budget, otherwise ‘nonessential” services of the U.S. govt will be shutting down. Of course, too, Pluto (ruling debt) is getting ready to station retrograde in governmental Capricorn (exact early Saturday EDT), another force at play here. We are also being fed media reports on how a “scaled-down” (purging Pluto) U.S. government would operate. On the other hand, with Sun conjunct “feel good” Jupiter yesterday, the U.S. stock market reached a two-year high. Go figure.

Famous Birthdays April 7: David Frost (72), James Garner (83). This astrologer has had a major, life-long crush on James Garner. It started when I was a child and used to watch him in the hit TV series “Maverick.” Then, later, I watched him in the “Rockford Files.” I always wanted to meet a man like James, but never did. BTW, James Garner was born with the Sun exactly conjunct Jupiter in Aries, the same expansive aspect that we just had yesterday and that I also blogged about. Can’t believe it, James is 83! Hope it’s a good one, Jim. Love ya!

“A conservative is a liberal who got mugged the night before.” Frank Rizzo

COSMIC WEATHER:

It’s day two of the stable, practical, high-caloric Taurus Moon. With the Moon here in the sign of money and possessions, we want our cake and expect to eat it, too. Taurus is all about enjoying creature comforts while simultaneously building up a cushy little nest egg. We are not really into doing anything that will jeopardize our security.

HOWEVER, with that said, we also are presently grappling with the powering Sun, mental Mercury, assertive Mars, and delusional Neptune in idealistic, freedom-loving, “power-to-the-people” Aquarius. We also have expansive Jupiter in pioneering Aries manically out on the prairie in a covered wagon. The compilation of all these cosmic elements may force the Taurus Moon a bit out of her traditional comfort zone today and may spell disaster for us if we think we can just idly chill out on the couch watching the boob tube. It’s likely not going to happen, bro. Instead, we may be pressured to incorporate some wicked elements of “change,” or at least some measure of “conservative action” into our daily agendas, compliments of a schizoid universe. 🙂

Coincidentally, today is also the opening day of the “Conservative Political Action Conference” (CPAC) which is being held in Washington, DC February 10-12. Kind of an appropriate “synchronistic” tie-in for the current celestial happenings.

Famous Birthdays February 10th: George Stephanopoulos (50), Glenn Beck (47), Robert Wagner (81)

“The older I grow the more I listen to people who don’t talk much.” Germain G. Glien

COSMIC WEATHER: January 11th through the 16th

Mental Mercury (communication) and manic Mars (aggressive urge) are hogging most of the astrological press this week. That’s okay. We’ll respectfully give them their fifteen minutes.

Mercury wraps up its stay in visionary Sagittarius, dutifully heading for the ambitious, goat-studded hills of Saturn-ruled Capricorn (January 13th). Our thoughts become more practical, more focused.

Also, self-assertive Mars shifts out of conforming Capricorn for Aquarius’ more non-conforming terrain (January 15th), which is psychedelically-peppered, at this time, with aging hippies, awkwardly still trying to “do their own thing,” despite all the intense years of pot-smoking and skinny-dipping. Uranus-ruled Aquarius, a sign that likes to wickedly “bend the rules,” fully embraces diversity, even the die-hard, hippie kind. It’s probably a good thing, too, that the hippies at least have a place to go to, a sign to “call home.” :)

With Mars in Aquarius now, too, it’s possible that we could even temporarily befriend one or two of these tie-dyed beings. Maybe help them to find their way, or whatever it is that they still are looking for. Maybe another Woodstock? Could be they are sticking around to see the re-emergence of bell-bottoms as a major, hot fashion trend?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnD6ojjA0OA

January 11th: Talker Mercury meets up with big hips Jupiter in blabbermouth Sagittarius. The end result: No one gets to have the last word on anything! Steady diet of redundant chatter permeates the air everywhere. Unless we have plenty of time on our hands, it’s best to refrain from asking anyone about their personal religious or political beliefs, or about anything controversial, for that matter, as we will likely be going at each other’s throat until the cows come home.  Too, we tend to zealously over-estimate our humble abilities now, i.e. bite off more than we can chew, both literally and symbolically.

Also, we need to carefully, and systematically, scrutinize documents and contracts closely, before putting our ‘John or Mary Doe’ on them. With Mercury-Jupiter, we tend to “gloss over details,” as we’re thinking too much about the “big picture.” Mercury-Jupiter is all too often linked with misunderstandings because we tend to get sloppy or arrogant in our thinking and assume too much.

Moon in pioneering Aries still has us “blazing new trails,” although the opposition to taskmaster Saturn (8:48 pm EST) may temporarily put a roadblock in our path.

Questions to ask ourselves today: Do we tend to talk too much? Often put our foot in our mouth? What shuts us up quickly? What is our favorite topic to talk about?

January 12th: We are much more likely to feel comfortable taking unorthodox approaches with things, especially on the professional front, as we have enterprising Mars in industrious Capricorn sextile to innovative, freedom-seeking Uranus in creative Pisces. Job seekers may want to try new strategies today, particularly utilizing opportunities provided by social networking (Uranus rules the internet).

We all tend to shine more by inserting our clever originality into the picture, instead of mindlessly subscribing to the fuddy duddy status quo. The Universe is beckoning, actually clamoring for us today, to deviate from the norm. To venture outside of our cozy, designer-decorated boxes. Too, if we are up to serious mingling with others, we may get a chance to interface with highly progressive types, who can really move us forward, with their ingenious, if not wacky, off-the-wall ways of thinking.

For those of us who still maintain an active, or even a semi-active sex life (ruled by Mars), that intimate activity could possibly become more exciting now by trying out new, inventive “night moves” in the bedroom. Or, we may want to continue doing the same, sexy little things that we always do under the sheets, but with new lovers. :) Mars-Uranus likes to experiment, and also endows us with more of a scientific bent. Just pray that white laboratory mice don’t somehow enter into our nighttime equation.

The Moon also vacates accelerator Aries for lusty, self-indulgent Taurus (10:37 pm EST), which also may help our feverish, nocturnal meanderings. Chocolate, too, may be an especially heady aphrodisiac now. (Moon is in Taurus till the 15th.)

Probing questions to consider today: What is sex? Is it something we engaged in at one time with another person? Is there anything we can do now to hasten the return of it to our lives, now that we finally have this good Mars aspect?

January 13th: Our enthusiasm knows no bounds as sexy, go-getter Mars sextiles fortuitous, expansive Jupiter, who is likely toting a large bag of goodies for us. This is a super aspect! Great time to forge ahead with important projects, get things done, especially anything business-related, as Mars is still in ambitious Capricorn, which rules status, career, and reputation. Also a more positive time for dealing with bankers, members of the military, politicians, journalists, writers, publishers, lawyers, teachers, travel agents, clergy, and athletes. Physical fitness and sports-related activities additionally get the green light. We’re loving competition now, as it gives us a golden chance to strut our hot stuff all over the place!

Our thoughts also become more pragmatic and serious today with Mercury’s return to utilitarian Capricorn, where it will stay until February 3rd. We excel now by adopting a communication style that is more purposeful and strategizing. It is also critical now that we let others know exactly what it is that we are hoping to accomplish with respect to our major goals. A time to enlist the support of higher-ups to our causes.

Possible questions to ponder now: What floats our boat? What gets us excited? If we could magically do anything today, what would we do? What are our goals for 2011? What can we do this very day that will help to move us forward, closer to attaining those goals?

January 14th: Moon continues in acquisition-minded Taurus. We may want to focus on ways to build up our nest egg, while simultaneously luxuriating around the house in our silk pajamas. The Taurus Moon is all about creature comforts. Also a good time to work with the earth, or for fashioning things from clay.

Things to think about today: Are we satisfied with our present financial situation? Do we have enough money coming in to meet our needs? Are there any steps that we can take now to make us feel more secure? In our quest for material security, should we try to perhaps get on the Oprah Show, before she goes off the air, in hopes that she will be characteristically playing Santa again in the near future? Maybe we should also go so far as to suggest to Oprah that she make every future Oprah show, this 2011 season, a “favorite things show,” since this is her last go round and lucky Jupiter is still technically aligned with Oprah’s ruling planet, Uranus, which also rules broadcasting (Oprah is an Aquarian). Point out to her that it is “clearly written in the stars” for her to keep playing Santa now, since Jupiter rules Santa Claus, and she is in Uranian-ruled broadcasting. Tell her that this Jupiter-Uranus configuration is the very “believe in miracles” aspect that she is always talking about.

It’s very cool, too, that with the Jupiter-Uranus aspect exact to the minute last week, “St. Nick” Oprah publicly discussed making “Ted Williams,” an ex-radio announcer, the official voice of the OWN network. Got to love Ted’s timing. Uranus rules radio announcers, with the Jupiter-Uranus here, helping to miraculously sweeten their lot in in life. Glad for all the success and love swirling around Ted Williams now.

January 15th: Pioneering Mars takes the plunge and skyrockets into hi-tech, futuristic Aquarius. We are eager to venture off into unchartered waters. Progress is made now by embracing change and collaborating with original thinkers. The Moon also enters curious, airy Gemini, a plus for the more impromptu, convention-defying Mars in cerebral Aquarius.

Questions to entertain today: How are we about embracing change? Do we welcome new strategies, or prefer to stick with the tried-and-true? Is there any one area in our life now that would perhaps benefit by employing new methods? What is the most off-the-wall thing we have done in the past year? Have we even done anything off-the-wall? If not, why not?

January 16th: Moon continues in cheerful, chatterbox Gemini. Conversation, short trips can stimulate. An important bond or tie could also be formed with the Moon’s magical trine to stabilizing Saturn in partnership Libra (3:47 pm EST). A perfect time then to communicate our more serious intentions.

Questions to possibly grapple with today: Is there something, a subject matter, that we have been dying to talk about, for a while now, but have been hesitant to? What has been holding us back from having this conversation? What are some of our favorite words? If we had to describe ourselves in one word, what would that word be?

“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” Mary Engelbreit.

Have a great week!

Astrology January 3, 2011: Power, Purging, and Food Fights

“He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still.” Lao Tzu

“Well, it’s back to the daily grind for most of us today, as we get ready for the big eclipse new moon tomorrow. Regrettably, no more time to sit around and idly fantasize about George Clooney.

Fittingly today, we have the Moon in “busy bee” Capricorn (2:39 am EST) goading us on to be more productive. The main focus today is the Moon’s powerful conjunction to “Wikileaks’ director of intelligence” Pluto (12:42 pm EST), which can get us secretly involved with an array of clandestine power or control issues, particularly in the workplace. And, especially if we work for or around Hillary Clinton. 🙂

With Moon-Pluto, we often need to feel a heady sense of our own power and self-worth, and sometimes we try to achieve this by manipulating or controlling others, which can, of course, painfully backfire, triggering immense power struggles and vicious food fights. Especially since this conjunction is occurring about lunch time on the east coast, and in the D.C. area. So we need to tread carefully. Better, too, as Lao Tzu says, that we should seek to master ourselves instead. Especially maybe strive for more insight into whatever it is that is driving our desires. Pluto’s activated ray brings to the surface submerged emotions and feelings.

We may also want to see today if we can purge or eliminate (Pluto) redundant tasks or work duties, in a bid to become more self-managed and efficient. Always with Pluto, it is a good idea to try to pare things down, get rid of the bloat and excess. This includes, too, very discreetly passing any nasty, odorous digestive gas that may have been building up inside of us during the holidays. I also realize that this is a very delicate topic to discuss here, and am only doing so out of genuine concern for our physical well-being. Pluto does govern all forms of the excretion process, while the Moon rules food.

Additionally, it’s an excellent time for recycling. Pitch those things that we don’t want to have around us in 2011. An item that immediately comes to mind here: The bathroom scale! Get rid of the wicked thing!

In closing, here’s a perfect tie-in for today’s “budget-minded” Capricorn Moon. The front page of the Wall Street Journal, which reads: “Congress Targets Spending.” Pure delight to the tightwad Capricorn Moon’s eyes! Of course, we also have the Sun, Mars, and the previously alluded to “Pluto” in Capricorn, too. Adding even more zeal and passion to the budget-cutting process.

Some questions to maybe ask ourselves today:

Do we need to reign in our own personal spending?

What can we somewhat painlessly eliminate from our daily lives, that will have the net affect of putting more money in our pockets, at the end of each month?

Can we perhaps find new uses for old things, especially limpid male body parts?

Do we need to maybe start parting our hair on the right side now, in wake of the new republican-led congress in the U.S.?

The next question may be a bit of a stretch, but here it is: With the Moon in “teeth-ruling” Capricorn conjunct perceptive Pluto, should we maybe pay closer attention to how people eat and chew their food today, and perhaps note, for statistical and public health purposes, how many of them get noticeable food particles tragically trapped in their teeth? And what to do about it, if they do? Should we kindly chime in to a stranger in a restaurant, “Hey, buddy, I casually noticed you have a big, unsighly chunk of green spinach beside your front tooth that needs to immediately come out! Here’s some floss!” Maybe tell them, too, that we’re afraid if the spinach stays lodged in there for too long, it could become something permanent, and eventually that frightening reality could lead to massive epidemics of other people suffering the same plight. 🙂

“I was obliged to be industrious.  Whoever is equally industrious will succeed equally well.” Johannes Sebastian Bach

The fiery red planet Mars, signifying energy in the physical body, enters ambitious Capricorn today (6:49 pm EST), the sign of its exaltation, where it will stay until January 15, 2011.

Mars, which additionally governs the aggressive urge, is “tamed” or more “restrained,” when in Saturn’s neck of the woods.  Disciplinarian Saturn rules Capricorn, a sign associated with authority, business, and people in high places. Keywords for Capricorn are: “I use.” Mars in Capricorn is hugely talented at utilizing all of the resources at its disposal to get ahead.  Mars in Capricorn can be very “pioneering” and “enterprising” in business.  It is often a signature of an “executive.”

And, yes, on the shadow side, Capricorn energy can be equated with being “manipulative” or orchestrating situations to get an “unfair advantage” from time to time. No question about it, Capricorn does like its power, and the feeling of power, and doesn’t like being without it. So that is one thing we have to be careful about with Mars here.  That we don’t ride roughshod over others in our quest to get, or keep, our high-profile seat in the boardroom. Although, Mars in Capricorn characteristically tends to be pretty cautious, and will generally refrain from engaging in certain behaviors or improprieties out of fear of adverse consequences in the future. It tends to “naturally check” its own behavior, in other words, perhaps as part of its strong survival instinct.

On a collective level, Capricorn is also linked with government. And, even though assertive Mars is “more controlled” in Capricorn, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is not interested in “spreading its sphere of influence” or “growing its dominance” in the world. It may be that a few governments around the world try to aggressively vie for more power now, but in a very strategic, well-thought out way, with Mars, again, ruling the need for assertion.

Last time Mars entered Capricorn on December 27, 2008, was exactly the same day that Israel reportedly initiated “Operation Cast Lead” in the Gaza Strip, after launching an extensive wave of airstrikes. Mars in Capricorn can denote a capable strategist or war general, whereas Mars in impulsive Sagittarius can sometimes symbolize a warrior zealously going off “half-cocked,” in search of the truth, without bothering to do the necessary due diligence, in advance, to ensure victory.

Too, we may want to pay closer attention to the world news with Mars’ pending conjunction with tyrannical Pluto, which will be exact on December 13th and 14th, although, for practical purposes, this influence is already starting to apply. Governments could get very aggressive in wanting to wield more power with this aspect. Capricorn is very concerned with self- preservation and security issues.

Also, we have the matter of Julian Assange and WikiLeaks front and center on the world stage, with Pluto ruling leaks and spying and espionage. Many governments, especially the U.S., are now grappling with serious intelligence issues and defense concerns (Pluto), in wake of all these cable leaks, and they may want to take some kind of swift action (Mars) as a result. Or, at least plot new strategies to deal with this emerging Plutonian-themed problem.

Pluto conjunct the North Node in Capricorn has correlated with an historic exposing of confidential government information, with aggressor Mars in fanatical Sagittarius square blabbermouth Jupiter, acting as the trigger point for it. What do they say, “Loose lips sink ships.” Have to wonder about the long-term implications of this WikiLeaks breach, and whether there may be new developments with the matter with Mars conjunct suspense-ruling Pluto, which loves to bulldoze and plunder.

Getting back now to a more personal level: With Mars in “reputation is so vitally important to me” Capricorn, we are wanting to put our energies effectively to use, in a practical way, so as to deliver more prestige and status to ourselves. We are inclined to believe that these two things will be natural byproducts, if we but apply ourselves and put our nose to the grindstone, and also, of course, hobnob around with important “movers and shakers.”

It could be, too, that we will want to become more involved in business networking efforts now, with Capricorn officially ruling “big business.” Especially with a new year on the way and its characteristic “new ambition.” Of course, Mercury retrograde (Dec. 10 thru the 30th) could impede or complicate some of our Mars in Capricorn ambitions to get ahead here, in the short-term, but Mars will still be in Capricorn for a couple weeks after Mercury stations direct, giving us lots of time to progress. Too, a lot of times with Mercury retrograde, we can still have great success in matters, we  just need to pay more attention to detail and following up on the execution of matters.

NEWS UPDATE 12/8/10: It was reported today that sympathetic supporters of WikiLeaks launched cyber attacks into MasterCard and Visa, and various other sites today as part of “Operation Payback.” I was thinking tonight that warrior Mars’ movement into Capricorn is sort of playing out here, initially anyway, as “war on big business,” as Capricorn rules business. It’s always very interesting to watch the events in the collective when Mars enters a new sign, as energizer Mars is such a catalyst for things to happen.

“Fanatics in power and the funnel of a tornado have this in common – the narrow path in which they move is marked by violence and destruction.” Oscar Otlund

Mars in Sagittarius square Jupiter in Pisces is exact on Monday, November 29th, 2010 (9:51 am EST), although this very potent influence is already applying and will be felt even for a few days after its exact.

At its noblest, Mars square Jupiter can galvanize us to take “heroic action.” Mars, the planet of energy and adventure, can signify “acts of courage” and “bravery.”  Aligned with expansive Jupiter, which symbolizes our “higher beliefs” and “philosophy of life,” we are more willing to “crusade” or “go to bat” for whatever it is that we believe in. We are on a quest for the truth. President Abraham Lincoln, for example, delivered the Gettysburg Address, perhaps the greatest, most inspiring speech in American history, with Mars and Jupiter exactly conjunct in the heavens. (Jupiter also rules political statesmen and public speaking.)

We also seem to have more physical energy at our disposal with this aspect, as expander Jupiter “enlarges” whatever it touches, and linked with energizer Mars, the energy in the body mounts proportionately. Mars-Jupiter could actually be characterized as more of a “manic” influence on the body, mind, and spirit, as our enthusiasm knows no bounds under its spell.

Mars-Jupiter is also associated with competitive sports and athletics, and gives us a great desire to want to excel and break records.  Our competitive spirit is very high with this energy. (Mars rules sports, exercise.)

A common pitfall to this aspect, though: we can go overboard, become too manic or driven, and end up plum wearing ourselves out physically, thereby, potentially injuring ourselves or weakening our body’s immune system.  So it is very important to temper and or restrain our actions, with this influence, and get proper rest and nutrition.

Mars placement in “forward-thinking” Sagittarius focuses our attention on the future.  It is visionary. We are thinking more about the long-term affects of our actions. We want to tender a lasting impact on the world, initiate disciples to follow our gospel. No surprise here that Sagittarius is also the sign associated with organized religion.

Of course, this Mars in Sag desire to tangibly shape the future is magnified that much more now with Mars’ alignment with preacher-teacher Jupiter, the natural ruler of Sagittarius. Jupiter, too, is tucked away in dreamy Pisces, which on the shadow side can be more “delusional” and “pie in the sky” Pollyanna.  Jupiter in Pisces doesn’t particularly care to break down and analyze its movements. Preferring instead, to operate “mainly on faith.”

Jupiter, too, although generally regarded as a benefic planet with seemingly positive impact for our lives, on the shadow side, it can make us a little too “full of ourselves,” if not outright arrogant, self-righteous, and extremist. Merged with manic Mars, we can very easily and fanatically ride roughshod over others’ beliefs or principles, feeling that we are justified in doing so, because we are only following “higher directives,” whatever that may mean. This smugness and perceived monopoly on the truth, of course, can end up being very dangerous, if allowed to run unchecked.

On a collective level now, too, we may want to pay closer attention to the world news, with this Mars-Jupiter “crusader’ influence as a galvanizing backdrop. We already have a volatile situation in North Korea where the rogue leader of that country appears to be pushing his own agenda, no matter the cost to the rest of the world. Mars rules war, so we must be careful now that Jupiter doesn’t stoke that flame.

Also, WikiLeaks founder is reportedly going to release hundreds of thousands of classified documents that U.S. officials are saying could endanger countless lives, pose security problems, and embarrass the U.S. and its allies.  Apparently, he is doing this to unveil “the truth,” regardless of the consequences. Sounding all very Mars-Jupiter to me, and if I may say, very fanatical. Sagittarius is also the sign of publishing.

Additionally, copious Jupiter in Pisces could denote information that is classified or hidden, as Pisces signifies what is submerged. Warrior Mars here aggressively bringing all this info to the surface. Too, Mars, as mentioned earlier, rules war and conflict, and reportedly much of this information to be released by Wikileaks pertains to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Jupiter symbolically “blabbing it away.”

Perhaps, in an effort to express the very best of this Mars-Jupiter aspect, it would probably be prudent for all of us to consciously try to detach or disengage ourselves from our personal agendas for a bit.  Get down off our soapbox long enough to see if the message or litany that we feel compelled to promote now is something that is really for the “greater good of all,” versus something that is really only feeding or glorifying our ego.  If we realize that it is more of the latter, then we may want to keep a lid on it and do something instead that will truly help lift others up, which is something that Mars-Jupiter energy is also excellent for. We need to keep in mind, too, what Abraham Lincoln did with this very same kind of energy.

Sun Conjunct Uranus: Ronald Reagan Runs For President 11/13/79

This Date In History:

November 13, 1979:

Ronald Reagan announces in New York his “candidacy for president.”

The “Illuminating” Sun is in “Transforming” Scorpio and exactly conjunct “Rebel” Uranus.

The Sun, as ruler of Leo, represent leaders and authority figures. Non-Traditional Uranus, as ruler of Futuristic Aquarius (Reagan’s “Sun-sign”), signifies “change” and “revolution.” Scorpio is also the sign that rules taxes, debt, credit, and investments.

On days when the Sun and Uranus are conjoined, we tend to witness a “departure from the past,” in terms of leadership matters, and often “sudden developments” or “breakthroughs” that can lead us down new paths.

Reagan went on to win the U.S. presidency, the following year, and ended up serving two complete terms in office from January 21, 1981 to January 21, 1989. His presidency has been termed the “Reagan Revolution” (Uranus) as it was regarded to have initiated a “political realignment” both within the U.S. and beyond in favor of his brand of conservatism and free markets.

Pioneering Mars was also strong in Theatrical Leo that day, and Reagan was previously “an actor” before becoming governor of California. Mars in Leo can usher in more “colorful” and “charismatic” leadership.

The Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and the North Node were also all in practical, “no frills” Virgo, maybe helping to foster more an acceptance of a message, on the part of the public, of a more “scaled down” type of government agenda and economic philosophy.

“Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.” Ronald Reagan

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Emotional Moon continues in “Big Picture” Sagittarius, along with Pioneering Mars. Mental Mercury also joins the proselytizing pair there today, leaving guarded Scorpio (6:43 pm EST). With the Moon, Mars, and Mercury all installed in Sagittarius, we have an enthusiastic trio of, “Yes we can!” energy at our disposal.

Also, later on in the day, the Moon forms a square aspect to Optimistic Jupiter (9:04 pm EST), the ruler of Sagittarius, at which time we should pretty much be able to “walk on water.”

Sagittarius, the Archer, is a very futuristic, positive, and goal-oriented sign known for its broad vision.  The keywords for it are: “I inspire.”

One big drawback, though, to the “Eye on the distant horizon” Sagittarius energy is that it tends to “gloss over details.” And we all know that “The Devil” is ready to pounce on us, whenever we “screw up” or “get careless” with the details. So we need to make sure today that we also enlist the support of the Shrewd, Investigative Scorpio Sun before we “get in over our head.”

Activities highlighted today: Preaching, teaching, academic matters, writing, publishing, speaking, sales, cold-calling, social networking, traveling.

Quote for Today:

“If you only do what you know you can do – you never do very much.” Tom Krause

This Day in History:

On November 8, 1989, Douglas Wilder is elected the first black U.S. governor (Virginia).  Also, on that same date, David Dinkins is elected the first black mayor of New York city.

On that day, the Sun, Mercury, and Pluto are all exactly conjunct in “Transforming” Scorpio, the sign which Pluto rules. So we had like a “double-whammy” of major “renovating-type” energy.

Normally, when the Sun, which signifies power and leadership issues, conjoins “Controlling” Pluto, matters of dominance and control naturally come to the forefront. Intellectual Mercury’s inclusion here also suggests that our “mental consciousness” of the day was “more predisposed” towards embracing the idea of “a new order.” (Scorpio)

“Trailblazing” Mars was also at 2 degrees of Scorpio and exactly sextile to “Equality Ruling” Uranus, the electrifying “planet of change,”  at 2 degrees of Capricorn, the sign that “rules government.” “Energizer” Mars always tends to “fire us up,” and aligned with “Out of the Box” Uranus, we were much more likely to want to embark down “new” or “non-traditional” paths then, and also more interested in seeing that others also be granted “equal rights” or “equal input” (Uranus) in the hierarchy of government (Capricorn).

Patricia’s Astrology Horoscope November 2, 2010: Due Diligence

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Orderly, Systematic Virgo Moon reminds us today that we can likely save ourselves headaches and hassles in the future by performing the necessary “due diligence” now.

Too, with the midterm elections being held in the U.S. today, it would behoove us to be knowledgable of the backgrounds of the candidates and how they stand on the issues, before going into the polling booth and casting our votes.

The placement of the Moon in Practical Virgo is always excellent for any kind of in-depth analysis and strategic planning, especially with powerful backup now from the Sun, Mercury, and Venus in investigative, resourceful Scorpio.

Scorpio symbolically rules “the elimination” or “purge process.” Today may be a very good time to purposely “weigh the facts” (Virgo) and then, as a result, prune away whatever is deadweight. (Scorpio)

The Moon’s opposition to Expansive Jupiter in Dreamy Pisces (5:24 pm EDT) also gives us some “creative license” to roam around a while in our imaginations.  Often we can get useful solutions to our everyday problems, too, by bending our “Virgo logic” a little, and going with more of our intuitive, “right brain.” (Pisces)

Later, the opposition to Upsetter Uranus (10:37 pm EDT) awakens us to the possibility of “sudden change.” Change can be daunting, for sure. The probability of change (Uranus), however, is something, too, that we must always take into consideration whenever we are plotting our long-term strategy. Change can be a good thing, as it can transport us out of our “comfort zones” where, if we linger too long, we tend to rot.

But change can also be a dangerous thing if we espouse change, just for the sake of change itself, without considering its many ramifications in our lives.  That is where the “wise, preparatory” Virgo Moon can help us out here today, if we but heed her course.

Today’s Quote for Today:

“Care and diligence bring luck.” Thomas Fuller

This Day in History:

On November 2, 1976, Jimmy Carter defeated Gerald Ford to capture the presidency of the United States. The Moon (governing the populace) was in Escapist, Idealistic Pisces. Energizing Mars was in Transforming Scorpio and in a tight square to Saturn in Leo. Mars square Saturn can signify trying to drive a car (Mars) with the brakes on (Saturn).  It can denote enormous discontent and frustration with the nature of things.  Saturn, too, can represent the incumbent, which in this case was Gerald Ford, and the challenging Mars square to Saturn can make it harder for incumbents to complete their agendas. The energy (Mars) is “at cross purposes” (square) to support the established regime (Saturn).

Mercury, governing the mind, was also in emotionally intense Scorpio and in a tight conjunction to Liberating Uranus. With Mercury-Uranus, we are definitely more ready and willing to entertain the idea of change (Carter), especially when taken into context with the frustrating Mars-Saturn in Leo influence, with Leo ruling leadership. With Saturn in Leo, too, there can be a “fallout” in leadership, as Saturn, under stress, often denotes loss and lack of support. Also, the country, at the time, was still recovering from the disillusioning malaise left from Nixon’s reign, and the economy was also problematic.

Today with the Moon in Work-Ruling Virgo, it would seem that “jobs” and the “lack of them” could be weighing heavy on voters’ minds today.  Perfectionist-seeking Virgo also tends to worry, and is more critical and unforgiving of any missteps, so the voters may be more inclined to view their politicians not only with a little more skepticism and cynicism today, but also with more of an eagerness to “hold them accountable” on their records. Energizer Mars is also in Sagittarius, the sign of politics, and that could make us “much more zealous,” if not combative, in expressing our political views.

Too, we are all still adjusting to a “new order of things,” with Pluto in the early degrees of Capricorn which rules government and hierarchy.  Pluto, as ruler of transforming Scorpio, tends to decimate or bulldoze conditions so new structures can be erected.

Pluto’s ray can also be extremist and fanatical in nature, so we can expect to see more “extreme measures” implemented in government with Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto, too, as part of the purge mindset, “cuts to the bone.” Many presently appear to be upset with what they see as a “bloated government,” and they want to pare it down (Pluto) considerably.

Pluto also rules debt, and with it now in Budget-Conscious Capricorn, debt-consciousness will likely be something that will be permeating the minds of the electorate for a good while to come. Pluto will be in Capricorn till 2025.

Interestingly, President Obama, who is not up for re-election today, has the transiting Warrior Mars in Sagittarius exactly in opposition to his Moon in Gemini now, an aspect which tends to “fire up our emotions,” as the Moon rules our emotional nature and also our nurturing ability.

Again, the Moon, too, represents the public and shows how we interface with it.  Volatile Mars here, signifying the aggressive urge, suggests that Obama may have a “real fight” (Mars) on his hands today when it comes to trying to placate the public (Moon). It could be, too, that he is forced to seriously reflect upon and rethink his own “nurturing or governing style,” (Moon) and also examine and assess how it is being perceived by others, in response to how his party fares in the midterm elections.
