Astrology January 13, 2019: Mercury Conjuncts Saturn, Jupiter Squares Neptune

“Dreaming about being an actress, is more exciting then being one.” Marilyn Monroe

Very interesting day in the cosmos! Intellectual Mercury is conjunct serious, ‘Doubting Thomas’ Saturn in Capricorn, expansive Jupiter in Sadge is square fantasy Neptune in fishy Pisces, and the changeable, fluctuating Moon is in restless, action-packed Aries! Yours truly is also writing this blog literally in the dark, by flashlight only, as where I live we’re currently experiencing an ice storm and my house has no power or electricity. All I can say is, “Thank God for Wifi!

So, I’ll try to be brief and to the point here (communicator Mercury is, after all, conjunct stingy, ‘less is more’ Saturn!) – and before my laptop dies, which could be any minute! Today is a time when we may experience some measure of confusion or disillusionment, especially with respect to our dreams, ideals, beliefs, philosophy of life, and expectations (Jupiter-Neptune). It is also easier for us to be misled or hoodwinked, not just by others, but also by ourselves! In other words, it appears that nearly all the collective is operating somewhat in the dark now, metaphorically speaking, and not just moi! (I just love the synchronicity at play here, don’t you?) While Jupiter-Neptune can be seemingly inspiring to us, to some degree, it also does have a legacy of being associated with going overboard, being extravagant, mismanaging or wasting our resources, becoming addicted to pleasures or legal, illegal substances.

We’re actually very fortunate to have that practical, grounded Mercury-Saturn conjunction in aspect today, as a counter to the more disorienting, undermining Jupiter-Neptune energy, as it is probably one of the best planetary influences for providing us with a solid, hands-on reality check. Good for planning and organizing. Optimally, Mercury-Saturn symbolizes discernment, concentration, wisdom, disciplined thought. All qualities that we’re potentially more sorely in need of now as we attempt to navigate through all the fog!

On another level, it’s also possible with the Mercury-Saturn conjunction that we hear more serious news today that ends up putting us into a more reflective mode. On the shadow side, Mercury-Saturn is often linked with despair or depression. Also a scarcity, or fear-mongering mentality.

Anyway, Jupiter square Neptune will also return twice more this year in June and September. So the drama continues. Stay tuned! 🙂

“The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction.” Rachel Carson.

Enjoy your Sunday! Good luck flying close to the ground today in your oh so pretty ruby red slippers! 🙂

Astrology January 12, 2019: Initiating Aries Moon Trines Venus, Conjuncts Mars

“Action expresses priorities.” – Mahatma Gandhi

It’s always good to have personal dreams. They’re often a big first step in creating our future. Wayne Dyer once said, “You’ll see it when you believe it!” But when the waxing, transiting Moon is deposited in initiating Aries, as it is today, it’s a time when we need to do more than just dream. Now we need to also consider taking action on some of those “castles in the air.” See how they fare. Test drive them down the Freeway of Love in our Pink Cadillac! After all, Aretha was an Aries! 🙂 Taking action on matters is also a positive way to develop greater self-confidence in our abilities as well as gain a sense of accomplishment.

Regarding today’s aspects, the Moon in Aries trines lovable Venus in optimistic Sagde this afternoon (at 2:20 pm). Quite a fun and expansive energy. Especially since Venus is now free of all the dark heavy Scorpio stuff. No more whips and chains! No more hanging out in caves! We probably will also need to allow ourselves more leg room to wander around now. Venus in Sagittarius likes to travel and check out new places. This could also make us very hungry for stimulating connections with others. The more diverse the pool of acquaintances, the better!

Later this evening (7:12 pm), the Moon conjuncts assertive Mars in Aries, the planetary ruler of the Aries Moon. Our emotions are potentially more charged now, and we may feel we have to defend ourselves now, no matter what. On the plus side, Moon-Mars can be great for tackling projects that require physical strength and stamina. Also, for working out in the gym.

“I don’t want to be at the mercy of my emotions. I want to use them, to enjoy them, and to dominate them.”  Oscar Wilde.

Astrology for January 11, 2019: Sun Conjunct Pluto

Tags

“Scared and sacred are spelled with the same letters. Awful proceeds from the same root word as awesome. Terrify and terrific. Every negative experience holds the seed of transformation.” Alan Cohen

The empowering Sun is conjunct perceptive Pluto in Capricorn today (6:36 am). Pluto is the modern-day ruler of Scorpio, the sign of life, death, and rebirth. This intense astrological aspect may help us to see more clearly the truth of a situation that maybe has been bothering or perplexing us for a while. Archetypally, Pluto symbolizes the underworld and the unconscious. It often reveals secret information coming from the depths. It can make us especially aware of what is toxic or festering below the surface that is in need of immediate release or resolution. Pluto is associated with psychotherapy, surgery, X-rays, elimination, and purging. In the body, Pluto rules the bowels and the rectum. Additionally, this is an excellent time for any kind of research, excavation, investigation or detective work. Sun-Pluto energy is equated with the ability for intense, single-minded focus and concentration, even to the point of obsession!

Ideally, Sun-Pluto alignments can ultimately be very healing and transforming as we learn to free ourselves from the vestiges of the past, which have had a limiting stranglehold on us, and get on with the life-supporting pursuit of aligning with new growth activities and self-expression. Sun-Pluto can serve as a powerful conduit to allow us to step into our own power or authority, and reshape our lives in such a way that they more fully radiate our authenticity.

On the shadow side, Sun-Pluto aspects can often trigger power struggles, bullying, sinister actions, manipulation, sudden breakdowns. The truth may also be used ruthlessly or selfishly as a way of gaining power or dominance over another.

Last night, on the eve of today’s Sun-Pluto conjunction, a very dramatic and moving development: Jayme Closs, a 13-year-old girl who vanished three months ago after her parents were found dead in their northwestern Wisconsin home, was found alive. A suspect was reportedly arrested a short time later. (CNN). Astrologically, one cannot help but think of the powerful Scorpionic rebirth aspect, at play here, of the phoenix rising from the ashes.

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife MacKenzie Bezos announced on Twitter that they are getting divorced after 25 years of marriage. Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world, whose birthday is tomorrow, January 12th – he’ll be 55 – presently has transiting Pluto now forming an exact conjunction with his Capricorn Sun, a long-term aspect that will stick around for a couple years. This influence operates essentially the same as today’s short-term Sun-Pluto conjunction. Since Jeff Bezos is such a public figure, we will be able to see, firsthand, how his Pluto-Sun is playing out, at least to the extent it is ever possible to know anybody from the outside in. It will also be interesting to see how this marital split might impact Amazon as a business. MacKenzie Bezos will soon be the wealthiest woman in the world as the Bezos’ live in a community property state. All the money he earned during the marriage, especially since there was reportedly no prenuptial agreement, is half his wife’s. They got married in 1993. He started Amazon a year or two later. Pluto also governs joint finances or resources that we share with others.

Hope you have a magnificent day and are able to clearly see now how all those mysterious puzzle pieces are supposed to fit together for you! Thank you also for reading my blog today. I’ve been away from here for almost a year and a half and am still trying to find my sea legs after having not written a thing during that long hiatus. Coincidentally, WordPress also happened to note for me today that this is the 1000th astrology blog that I have written since 2009. Astrology for January 10, 2019: The Moon is in Imaginative Pisces

“The world of reality (Saturn) has its limits; the world of imagination (Neptune) is boundless.” Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Mercury, Saturn, Pluto, and the South Node are all ensconced in responsible Capricorn now. We also have the annual, intense Sun-Pluto conjunction, tomorrow. But all this doesn’t necessarily mean that we can’t put aside those early January “to-do lists” or whatever and take a breather to re-charge our body, mind, and spirit. With Luna streaming through dreamy, reflective, otherworldy Pisces, all day, it’s a perfect time to re-focus our energies on activities or outlets that enlist our imagination, dreams, creativity, as well as humanity. Too, as most of us know, when we stay focused on what’s in front of us, we keep getting more of the same. But when we dare to hang out in the boundless, endless sphere of our imagination, that’s where we really have the chance to thrive and create a brand new world or paradigm for ourselves. “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.” Kurt Vonnegut

Famous January 10 Birthdays: Rod Stewart, George Foreman, Pat Benatar, Jim Croce

“What I do now is all my dad’s fault, because he bought me a guitar, for no apparent reason.” Rod Stewart.

On This Date in History: On January 10, 1956 Elvis Presley records “Heartbreak Hotel”.

The transiting Sun in Capricorn was sextile to Elvis’ lucky Jupiter in Scorpio that day. Transiting Pluto was also in rock star Leo and trining innovative Uranus, in pioneering Aries, in Elvis’ 5th house of creative expression – a potent planetary aspect that helped to transform (Pluto) his world through the expression of his electrifying and unique talents and gifts (Uranus). He also had that latter, more long-term Pluto-Uranus aspect, at play, all through 1956, when he released a lot of other classics including “Love Me Tender” and “Hound Dog”.

Hope you have a very lovely, rejuvenating day. Dream big! All the way to the Pisces Moon.

“If you’re always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.” Maya Angelou

The waxing Moon is wrapping up its stay in individualistic Aquarius today, shifting into the compassionate sign of Pisces at 2:44 pm. The Moon’s last aspect in Aquarius is a sextile to Uranus at 11:53 am, which is also the planetary ruler of Aquarius. Moon-Uranus aspects can coincide with stimulating out of the ordinary encounters. They can also poise us to want to make new alterations or changes in our home environment or personal lives. The dreamy, escapist Pisces Moon squares Venus in flirtatious Sagittarius this evening, at 8:09 pm, suggesting an increased need for romance or fun.

This Day in History: On January 9, 2007 Apple CEO Steve Jobs announces the iPhone. In the sky that day, pioneering Mars was in adventurous, communicative Sagittarius at 24 degrees of that sign, exactly trining manifesting, disciplined Saturn at 24 degrees of creative Leo. Flowing Mars-Saturn aspects often indicate positive outcomes through the application of strength and determination. It is also a time when we can often capitalize on our experience and know-how. Enthusiastic Sagittarius is additionally an excellent sign for marketing new wares to a broad, international market.  At the end of the day, I think we all would agree that the iPhone has had a pretty good run. Definitely a Mars-Saturn “worldly” success story! Needless to say, it revolutionized (Mars in Sadge) telecommunications! 🙂 In Steve Job’s natal chart he has a trailblazing Moon in Aries with expansive, fortuitous Jupiter closely conjunct tech giant Uranus in the sign of Cancer. Jupiter-Uranus aspects are associated with sudden breakthroughs and genius. Uranus is the higher octave of Mercury and is linked with intuition.

Hope you have a stimulating, extraordinary day!

Astrology for January 8, 2019: Mercury in Capricorn Squares Mars in Aries

Tags

“It is in moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.” Tony Robbins

Mercury in Capricorn squares Mars in Aries:

We may feel more pressured or primed (Mars) to make decisions (Mercury) today. Including courageous, bold ones! Motivator Mars, the planet which deals with how we assert ourselves, is newly installed in self-confident, trailblazing Aries, the sign that it rules. Here, it is very fast-acting and very eager for new beginnings. Especially since it’s the start of a brand new year.

Thinker Mercury meanwhile, in professionally ambitious Capricorn, cognitively gets Mars enthusiastic drive, desire, and spirit to forge ahead (Capricorn is also an enterprising cardinal sign). Mercury in Saturn-ruled Capricorn, however, is wired to operate much more systematically or methodically, with a definite plan in hand, that carefully showcases all his neatly crossed t’s and i’s circumspectly dotted.

So, what to do to avert a potential ‘planetary shutdown’ between Mercury and Mars? 🙂

A winning solution here seems to be to find a way to combine the best attributes of each of these planets: When rendering any decisions, have a clear, detailed vision in your back pocket of where it is you want to go. Coupled with a realistic analytical assessment of the bevy of resources at your disposal (Mercury in Capricorn). Be willing to also step outside of your comfort zone and be adventurous! Make decisions that stretch your capacity and force you to grow (Mars in Aries).

Additionally, it is wise to keep in mind now that decisions made from a place of integrity inside ourselves will always leave us with a feeling of peace that we are on the right track. “A lot of the conflict you have in your life exists simply because you’re not living in alignment; you’re not be being true to yourself.” Steve Maraboli.

Possible Shadow sides of Mercury Square Mars: Displaying a “win at all costs mentality” that may ride roughshod over the views or opinions of others. Grandstanding. Throwing temper tantrums. Being argumentative. Letting our ego run the show. Refusing to collaborate. In other words, a fairly typical day in the brand new Congress on Capitol Hill! 🙂

Famous People with Mercury square Mars in their natal charts: Oprah Winfrey, Demi Moore, Randy Travis, Bjorn Borg, Tina Turner.

Famous Birthdays January 8: Elvis Presley, Stephen Hawking, David Bowie, R. Kelly, Kim Jong-un, Britton Buchanan.

“Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” Stephen Hawking

Hope it’s a great day for you, and that your destiny is shaped and supported in a positive way! I’ve missed you!

Astrology May 10, 2017: Mercury Conjuncts Uranus, Scorpio Full Moon

“Most people are slow to champion love because they fear the transformation it brings into their lives. And make no mistake about it: love does take over and transform the schemes and operations of our egos in a very mighty way.” AberJhani

Cosmic Weather: Mercury conjuncts Uranus in spontaneous Aries (1:19 am). This quickening influence speeds up our thought processes! It’s associated with sudden decision-making. There’s more of a tendency to seek out-of-the-ordinary solutions to problems now. It can be a highly creative or inventive time for us, intellectually, as we are more willing to entertain different viewpoints and perspectives. We are also less concerned now with what other people think about us. Anytime Mercury and Uranus conjoin, there’s also a potential for surprising or startling twists in communications (Mercury) due to the more erratic and experimental nature of Uranus (President Trump’s firing of James Comey FBI Director!). On the shadow side, this configuration can make us mentally restless and rebellious and more rash and impulsive in our decisions.

Full Moon in Passionate Scorpio (5:42 pm). We are seeking to balance our need for security or stability (Sun in Taurus) with our desire for shared intimacy with others (Moon in opposing Scorpio). Because of the illuminating nature of a Full Moon, we may also discover what it is that may be preventing us from reaching this objective, and what to do about it. The Moon’s sextile to perceptive Pluto, the modern-day ruler of Scorpio, can also offers us deeper insights into the emotional needs of others. On another level, the Scorpio Full Moon can trigger sweeping shifts in power, partly because we are not afraid to act on our desires and go after what it is that we want.

New Moon in Taurus – Astrology April 26, 2017

Tags

“Tell me what you pay attention to and I will tell you who you are.” Jose Ortega y Gasset

Cosmic Weather:

There is a New Moon in deliberate Taurus the Bull this morning (8:16 am EDT), the first of the earth signs. Venus-ruled Taurus governs money, possessions, values, and the things we love. The practical Taurus New Moon helps us to formulate some realistic plans for ourselves, over the course of the next month. It is also excellent energy for helping us to slow down the pace of our lives and be in the moment, which is something that we are learning more and more is foundational to achieving and preserving good health.

It is also a perfect time to really think about, and become more clear about, what it is that we value, and why. Our values, along with our beliefs, are ultimately what help to inspire and shape our day-to-day actions, which are essentially the building blocks of our lives. Many of us are perennially seeking answers outside of ourselves, about the nature of our future, when in reality, all we really need to do is take a close look at our daily activities. See what we are routinely investing our time and energy in, and that should give us a pretty good idea as to where we are heading. Taurus, archetypally, also represents the builder.

This New Moon does form harmonious aspects with Neptune and the North Node in Virgo, potentially allowing us to more easily connect with our vision, imagination, and sense of purpose.

“If you have a strong purpose in life, you don’t have to be pushed. Your passion will drive you there.” Roy T. Bennett

Question for Today: When you are feeling “on purpose with your life,” what action(s) are you taking? What activities are you engaged in?

“The field of consciousness is tiny. It accepts only one problem at a time.” Antoine De Saint-Exupery

Cosmic Watch: Intellectual Mercury trines disciplined Saturn (4:15 am EDT). Our thinking caps are on today! Mercury-Saturn is an excellent aspect for concentration, planning, budgeting, organization and research. It favors serious discussions and presentations that call for relaying detailed information. Our words are parceled out more sparingly now and we also want to see proof or tangible results before we commit our resources, or sign on the dotted line. Keep in mind, though, that Mercury is still in its retrograde phase until May 3rd, which can mean decisions made now can later be reversed. Still this can be a productive time for conscientiously reviewing matters, cultivating sound judgment, as well as seeking wise counsel from those whose opinions and insights we value and respect. On another level, it may be a positive day to go for, or schedule, a hearing (audiological) test, or be fitted for a hearing aid. Saturn governs our hearing.

“Tell people there’s an invisible man in the sky who created the universe, and the vast majority will believe you. Tell them the paint is wet, and they have to touch it to be sure.” George Carlin 🙂

Mercury trine Saturn Archetypes: The Judge, the Scientist, the Architect

This Date in History: Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was inaugurated as the 265th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church on April 24, 2005, taking the name Pope Benedict XVI.  In the sky, initiating Mars, in humanistic Aquarius, was exactly sextile to rejuvenating Pluto in philosophical Sagittarius, a sign which rules, among other things, organized religion and our higher beliefs. Mars-Pluto aspects tend to usher in transforming scenarios in our lives, including situations involving changes of power. There can also be a strong feeling or sense that we are experiencing a pivotal “rendezvous with destiny” when these two heavenly bodies intersect.
