COSMIC WEATHER:

In wake of Monday’s New Moon in “experimental” Aquarius, today is an excellent time to kind of take a “test run” of things with the Aquarian Sun forming an exact sextile to Uranus, the modern-day ruler of Aquarius. This vibrant and quickening influence potentially poises us to be more flexible or open-minded in situations, as well as inspires us to embrace the changes that we know are needed in our lives in order to hopefully have them flow more effortlessly and authentically from our true center. Albert Einstein once quipped that the measure of intelligence “is the ability to change.”

With that said, it might be a great day to hang out with people or types we normally would not associate with to broaden our outlook, especially since we also have relationship Venus squaring Uranus today as well, an aspect which can coincide with a desire for more freedom or newness in our connections. Sun-Uranus also favors involvement in group activities or humanitarian causes.

Mercury trine Jupiter additionally helps us to look at the big picture, today. It may also be important for us now to discuss topics that are more meaningful to us, or that reflect our core beliefs and values. Mercury-Jupiter is also associated with public speaking and publishing.

The “utilitarian” and waning Capricorn Moon is also very busy, today, forming six aspects, all this morning, before going void of course at 10:54 am. It will enter Aquarius at 12:59 am, Sunday morning, and will no longer be void.

*All times EST.

Today’s Energy:

For some, the notion of self-preservation equates with keeping risk-taking at a minimum. While for others, the idea of taking risks, on an ongoing basis, is something generally viewed as a surefire way to keep more successfully engaged with the “river of life,” which by its very nature never stands still for very long – unless its flow is temporarily dammed up or obstructed by something in its path.

Today’s “Mars trine Uranus” aspect potentially raises all of our “risk-tolerance levels” a bit, as there can be an increased desire now, among many of us, to want to improve or move our lives forward in some stimulating, maybe even provocative manner. Also, there can be a stronger yearning for more personal freedom as well as less patience or tolerance for our routine or typical daily tasks. Because Uranus symbolizes change and innovation and Mars energizes whatever it comes into contact with, summoning up our inner “Thomas Edison” may also be more doable now. At the very least, today is an excellent time to get all of our options for our nifty little life, out on the table, including possibly considering some things that are uncharacteristic for us, as we just might discover, in the process, some fresh new possibilities with our name written all over them. Mars quinqunx Chiron today also encourages us to” feel the fear and do it anyway.”

Questions for Today: What is life asking you to do differently at this time? What new beliefs could shift your destiny for you?

Famous September 8th Birthdays: Pink, Patsy Cline, David Arquette, Bernie Sanders, Peter Sellers, Sid Caesar,

“Learning is always rebellion.  Every bit of new truth discovered is revolutionary to what was believed before.” Margaret Lee Runbeck

The nature of life is such that it continually requires us to take ongoing leaps in the dark, or to venture down roads that we’re not altogether familiar with. Today, with the empowering Sun squaring experimental Uranus (10:53 pm EDT), the planet of change, innovation, and rebellion, it appears that we tend to thrive, or come more fully into our own now, by intentionally cultivating a love of the unknown; by deciding to tolerate or accept ambiguities; by finding a way to make peace with possibly uncomfortable outcomes or results that may not be exactly what we had originally intended or envisioned for ourselves, but which may be very valuable and necessary for our soul’s unique purpose. Lao Tzu taught that life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes, and that we should not resist them as that only causes sorrow. Always very good advice to heed, but especially for today when a wave of uncertainty seems to be on the horizon.

On another level, if we’ve been hoping for a breakthrough or a discovery, Sun-Uranus could very well deliver one. This influence also favors taking unconventional approaches to problems. Also, because this energy tends to speed things up, it may be the kind of day in which we feel more physically or mentally restless. Accordingly, allowing ourselves to deviate from our routine, might be a very good way to play the day. We also may want to get more rest and watch what we eat now, particularly avoiding, or cutting back on, food or beverages, or even activities, that over-stimulate us, or cause us to stay awake, or get too excited.

Famous People Born with Sun square Uranus: Stephen King, O. Henry, Wynonna Judd, John Ritter, Dennis Rodman, Bono, George Washington, Dustin Hoffman.

Question for Today: What is a change that you know you should make, but you’re still resisting it?

In the News: The Eurozone summit is taking place today that could pave the way for a third bailout for Greece, but the process is reportedly fraught with uncertainty. Astrologically, today’s Sun-Uranus aspect could be interpreted as accentuating or setting off taskmaster Saturn’s recent return to “debt-ruling” Scorpio, where it presently sits retrograde near the “anaretic” or last degree of the sign, a placement in which it is deemed to be operating in a more “urgent” manner.

Famous July 12 Birthdays: Bill Cosby, Malala Yousafzai, George Washington Carver, Cheryl Ladd, Richard Simmons, Christine McViie

“I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in.” George Washington Carver

Astrology December 4, 2014: Mars Enters Aquarius

astrology for december 4 2014, breakthroughs, change, horoscope december 4 2014, mars enters aquarius, reform, uranus square pluto

“A key ingredient in innovation is the ability to challenge authority and break rules.” Vivek Wadhwa

COSMIC WATCH:

There’s a major shift in energy, today, as Mars, the planet of action and desire (also symbolizing the military, sports, and law enforcement) moves into “innovative” Aquarius (6:57 pm EST), the Water Bearer, where it will stay until January 12. Aquarius, a fixed, air sign, is ruled by “radical” Uranus, the planet that’s associated with genius, change, technology, and the unexpected. Those born under the sign of Aquarius tend to enthusiastically embrace the “road less traveled.” They may also have more of an interest in humanitarian, political, or social causes, and may seek to make the world a better place by deliberately questioning or challenging the established order of things. They’re also usually brimming over with new or original ideas for supplanting or replacing the existing status quo.

Accordingly, Mars transiting Aquarius, for the next few weeks, sets into play a possible scenario in which we’re more receptive to experimentation, or more comfortable departing from the “tried and true,” conventional approaches when it comes to pursuing our goals, or whatever it is that we want for ourselves. Mars in Aquarius is also excellent for helping us actually develop more “out-of-the-box” strategies for dealing with our lives, or the situations that we find ourselves in, as Aquarius is an intellectual air sign that tends to have more of an affinity for abstract reasoning, or detached thinking. Aquarius is also, perhaps, the best sign placement for Mars for seeding sudden, pivotal breakthroughs in things.

Too, Mars in Aquarius can incline some of us to want to take a more active stance on some of the larger social issues circulating around the collective, now, particularly, perhaps, those issues pertaining to the preservation or enhancement of individual rights or freedoms, and matters involving equality or diversity, which Uranus represents. Aquarius also specifically symbolizes individual expression within the context of a group setting. Also, even those of us who choose not to become outwardly involved in any causes, now, will likely find that we at least have a growing awareness of some of the dynamics, or root causes, that are fueling or fomenting these issues.

Of course, around the world, we have seen an escalation in protest movements, globally, ever since Uranus and Pluto first started squaring off with each other, over two years ago, something that also happened back in the 1960s in the U.S. when these two planets were also conjunct. Too, this month, around mid-December, the Uranus and Pluto square will be exact again, for a sixth time – although, we’re already, essentially, feeling the energy of that square. Additionally, Uranus is going to be stationing direct, on the 20th of December. At that same time, Mars in Aquarius will be exactly sextiling Uranus! While I’ll be mentioning more on all of this, later, suffice it to say, in the interim, that the Uranus-Pluto energy is, once again, attuning us to what’s broken, decaying, or outworn around us, and also, perhaps, pointing the way as to what needs to possibly be erected in its place.

A shadow side of Mars entry in Aquarius is that it can make us a little more erratic, or uneven, in how we apply our energies. Mars here can also, sometimes, be a disruptive force in the sense that we may be too overeager to overturn things without first having a solid type of infrastructure in place. Also, on the shadow side, Mars in Aquarius can occasionally translate into our being more willful or stubborn, especially when we don’t get our way.

Also, today, the Sun in “adventurous” Sagittarius is rolling out a welcome mat for Mars entry into Aquarius in the guise of its trine to Uranus in Aries (5:30 pm EST), usually a type of day when we can really sense that “change is in the air.”

Famous People with Mars in Aquarius: Michelle Obama, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Leonardo da Vinci, Jay-Z, Charles de Gaulle, Adele, Queen Elizabeth II, Rainer Maria Rilke.

Question for Today: What is life, perhaps, asking you to do differently, now?

Famous December 4th Birthdays: Tyra Banks, Jeff Bridges, Francisco Franco, Dennis Wilson, Wink Martindale, Rainer Maria Rilke

“Most people come to know only one corner of their room, one spot near the window, one narrow strip on which they keep walking back and forth.” Rainer Maria Rilke.

Enjoy your Thursday!

Astrology July 31, 2013: Mars Squares Uranus, Moon in Gemini

astrology july 31 2013, change, diversity, Geraldine Chaplin, horoscope july 31 2013, J.K. Rowling, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Mars square Uranus, Milton Friedman, Moon in Gemini

“In this world one is seldom reduced to make a selection between two alternatives. There are as many varieties of conduct and opinion as there are turns of feature between an aquiline nose and a flat one.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

COSMIC WATCH:

Variety is said to be the “spice of life.” Today may be an especially good day to seek it out, with the Moon’s ingress into curious Gemini (11:42 am EDT) and also trailblazer Mars square to non-conforming Uranus, the planet of change and innovation. Too, while Mars-Uranus has been known to coincide with sweeping reforms (and revolts), it’s not always necessary to make wholesale changes with this influence to inject new life and variety into our lives; sometimes by tweaking things just a little, we can begin to shift the energy around us in a positive way – like casting a pebble into the water and witnessing the corresponding ripple affect. “And that is how change happens. One gesture. One person. One moment at a time.” Libba Bray

This might also be a good day to reflect upon, and to ask ourselves, “How open are we to issues of diversity (Uranus)?” “Christian, Jew, Muslim, shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the mystery, unique and not to be judged.” Rumi

It should also be noted that on the heels of the Mars-Uranus influence, Israeli and Palestinian officials agreed to resume negotiations, something that hasn’t occurred for a long while (we also still have the healing grand water trine taking place between Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune). Whether or not these negotiations will be successful, remains to be seen, but at least an attempt is being made to make some progress here. Mars is also in Cancer (as is Jupiter), which not only governs the home and family, but also issues of patriotism, or allegiance to one’s country, and matters of territorialism. Uranus is also in new beginnings Aries, which can foster pioneering approaches or strategies. The square aspect, itself, is often a catalyst for taking action on matters.

Too, today the sentencing phase begins for Bradley Manning. Many have characterized him as a traitor to his country (Cancer) for giving classified U.S. military (Aries) information to Wikileaks. Yesterday, he was found guilty of espionage and theft charges, but acquitted of aiding the enemy. Symbolically, Mars-Uranus can signify “having to deal with rogue behavior.” Manning faces 136 years in prison on the charges.

Famous Birthdays July 31: Milton Friedman, J.K. Rowling, Geraldine Chaplin.

“If you want to see the true measure of a man, watch how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” J.K. Rowling

Astrology August 9, 2011: Mars Squares Rebellious Uranus

COSMIC WATCH:

“Every act of rebellion expresses a nostalgia for innocence and an appeal to the essence of being.” Albert Camus

It may be trickier to calmly “go with the flow” today, as “aggressor” Mars in “security-oriented” Cancer squares off with “rebel flag” Uranus, the planet of change and personal freedom, in “self-willed” Aries (12:33 pm EDT). This more volatile aspect is part of the “Grand Cardinal Cross” that Mars is now activating with Uranus, Pluto and Saturn. On Thursday, we will have Mars opposite Pluto and then Mars square Saturn, later next week.

Mars-Uranus has some legacy, both individually and collectively, for “rattling our cages” and putting us at odds with current rules or restrictions, which may be viewed as outmoded or no longer relevant for our lives and or survival. At the same time, Mars-Uranus is a classic template for wanting to be a “law unto ourselves.”

Of course, as most of us know, when we act in a self-willed manner that is too defiant, or in a way that does not kindly consider the needs of others into the equation, there is usually a hefty price to pay later. Too, even if we’re willing to abide by the existing rules and protocol now, we are more likely to encounter “anarchists” or “non-conforming types” in our environment, who tend to make life more complicated for us, in various ways, often by dismantling the seemingly secure guideposts around us.

Also, it is possible that these “rebels” can end up ultimately leading us to a better way of life. Uranus is linked with genius and breakthrough visions, with Mars here firing up that lofty potential. Madonna and Steve Jobs, for instance, were both born with Mars square Uranus in their charts and both have done a lot to innovate and reform their respective industries in a positive way and impact the world at large. Uranus also rules technology and computers.

Mars-Uranus is additionally known for throwing us some “curve balls,” introducing us to circumstances or situations we may not have anticipated, or perhaps simply refused to acknowledge earlier, elements that now call for sudden or swift adaptations on our part. Of course, if we gaze around the world today, it does seem much more uncertain and unsettled than it did, only a few days ago, with the volatility of world markets, riots in London, etc. Perhaps much of the discord symptomatic of a system that is indeed broken in many ways. The Cardinal Grand Cross forcing us to re-examine, once again, the present nature of things and then spurring us on to make changes to hopefully rectify things.

On that note, we do want to guard against making any risky or impulsive moves today that could jeopardize our security further, or the security of those around us. We really need to give some time for all the dust to settle around us. Right now, Mars-ruled tempers and fuses are likely to be shorter, making it harder for reason to prevail. Too, intellectual Mercury is retrograde and still aligned with vague, psychedelic Neptune, which can cloud or muddy our perceptions and undermine or erode our self-confidence. A lot of complex aspects at play here, simultaneously.

We also would be well-advised to slow down and be more alert to our surroundings and use more caution when we are working around heavy equipment or driving today. Mars-Uranus tends to distract our attention, when we really need to be focusing on the tasks at hand.

“Give your stress wings and let it fly away.”  Terri Guillemets

COSMIC WATCH:

“Above all else, be daring, be bold, be unconventional.” Kevin Rampe

The stars above seem to be “dittoing” that same sentiment today with both the Sun and Moon still deposited in bold, daring Leo, along with relationship and social guru, Ms. Venus. Venus is also forming an exact trine to Uranus, the planet of unconventionality, in “new moves” Aries.

Mingling with non-conforming types, or with people who may not share our same set of values. Seeking out new forms of entertainment or recreation. Throwing an impromptu party or celebration. Doing something we fear. These are but a handful of ways that we can positively engage the energies of the day and maybe push up that “growth factor” one notch higher in our lives by stepping out of our comfort zones.

Are you comfortable embracing people from different backgrounds? Can you see where it may be advantageous to expose yourself to different cultures?

COSMIC WATCH:

“Adventure is not outside man; it is within.” George Eliot

The Moon’s ingress into “checkered flag” Aries (12:26 pm EDT) gets our engines started and propels us to seek out new adventures. Too, the Aries Moon has her monthly meet-up with “unexpected” Uranus today (9:31 pm EDT), normally a time when we are able to load up on new experiences. Uranus tends to work its magic for us as a harbinger of change. He also gets us ingeniously thinking outside the box.

The Moon in Aries also squares “stealth” Pluto in Capricorn (11:46 pm EDT). A time when we may choose to go undercover. Pluto governs hidden realms, including our subconscious. Too, while we like to think that we’re consciously controlling our behavior, many psychologists say that most of the time, our behavior is dictated by our subconscious. No doubt, this theory is also “music to Pluto’s ears,” who delights in surreptitiously pulling our strings. 🙂

“Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.” George Patton

People with Moon in Aries: Sarah Ferguson, Jennifer Lopez

Celebrity Update: Unconfirmed reports are swirling around today that former Beatle, Paul McCartney (a Gemini), is poised to walk down the aisle for a third time in London. His bride-to-be is American divorcee, Nancy Shevell, who is Barbara Walters’ second cousin. The two have reportedly dated for four years.

Paul has “change-agent” Uranus, in “new beginnings” Aries, moving through his seventh house of marriage now and exactly trining his “transforming” Pluto in “romantic” Leo in his 11th house of hopes and wishes. I get the sense of some positive, life-changing karma playing out for Paul here. How about you? Unfortunately, I don’t have Nancy’s chart.

One other cool note about Paul’s chart: He natally has loving and creative Venus, in faithful Taurus, exactly conjunct his 9th house of writing. This has to be a big boon for him in his song-writing ability, especially his talent for writing “silly love songs.” Venus not only rules romance, but it also shows what we love to do. I’m not even sure how many songs Paul has written, but it has to number into the hundreds. Too, Venus in Taurus often coincides with marked talent for art or music.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Life’s problems wouldn’t be called ‘hurdles,’ if there wasn’t a way to get over them.” Unknown source

Things may be a bit more “topsy turvy” today with the Moon in emotional Cancer forming squares to unpredictable Uranus in Aries and restrictive Saturn in Libra, and also an opposition to reforming Pluto in Capricorn. This alignment activity sets up a dynamic cardinal cross in the sky. Cardinal sign energy (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) is very active and initiating. The pace around us now could quicken. Somewhat of a roller coaster. We progress now by being flexible, aware, and simply going with the flow. Sometimes, this buildup of cardinal energy spawns heroic or uncommon efforts.  Other times, creativity (Elvis Presley was born with a grand cardinal cross). Hopefully its appearance in your life today will have positive, exhilarating consequences.

BTW, last fall, when American Idol’s two new judges were formally announced, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, we had a cardinal grand cross exact in the sky. Again, it can be a highly creative, energizing configuration. Also a time when we feel more inclined or compelled to roll-out bolder agendas for ourselves, or are more amenable to changing things up, desiring newness and freshness. I was curious as to how Tyler and Lopez would fare on Idol, being chosen at that time,  but it appears that the viewer response has so far been favorable.

On a sweeter note, communicator Mercury and love maven Venus are aligned together in flirty Aries, boding well for weekend romance. This Mercury-Venus aspect will be exact on Monday. Too, with this same influence applying yesterday, it was announced that Beatle Paul McCartney is planning another trip down the aisle (trip #3) with his New York girlfriend of four years, Nancy Shevell (she’s reportedly a cousin to Barbara Walters). Not sure of the wedding date. Paul, a Gemini, has adventurous Mars and expansive Jupiter in new beginnings Aries presently sextiling his Sun (sense of self), so he is going through a more enthusiastic, optimistic phase (Jupiter-Sun aspects are often advised for weddings). Coincidentally, we had a similar type of Mars-Jupiter energy (the conjunction) in the royal wedding chart last week of Kate Middleton and Prince William.

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It’s the transition that’s troublesome.” Isaac Asimov.

This is the last day for energizer Mars in watery, reflective Pisces (enters Aries, the sign of its rulership, 12:51 am EDT Sat.) Also, this is the last full day for the emotional Moon in Pisces, as it also shifts into fiery, enterprising Aries tomorrow (7:17 am EDT), a time when the “pace of life” could dramatically quicken for many of us. The Moon and Mars will be joining the Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus in Aries.

Also, whenever Mars changes signs, we always want to pay closer attention to events in the world, as Mars can signal pivotal changes for the matters associated with the zodiacal sign it is entering (Mars provides momentum). For instance, when Mars entered Pisces this last time on February 23rd, is when oil prices suddenly started to surge. Pisces rules oil. Aries is more “confronting-type” energy associated with conflict and war (rules the military and law enforcement). Aries also rules adventure, record-setting and pioneering new territory. It additionally governs athletes and sports.

Too, we have a New Moon in Aries on Sunday, with New Moons signifying “new beginnings” and with it occurring in Aries, the official sign of “new beginnings,” we are effectively getting a “double-whammy” here. Assertive Mars will also be conjuncting unpredictable, wild card Uranus in Aries on Saturday, a planet also known for liberation and discovery, which is a good fit for the similar Aries-type energy it is deposited in.

Needless to say, today we are on the brink of a very highly-charged energy pattern, perhaps the most intense of the year. Aries is all about initiating action and propelling ourselves and our world forward, often at warp speed.

Today, we may want to use this “transitional” Piscean energy to make sure that we have all of our players ready for bat and have a clear idea of how we want to pitch this new Aries ballgame. In line with this, we will want to be putting the finishing touches on our intentions now to be released at the Aries New Moon this weekend.

“You don’t save a pitcher for tomorrow. Tomorrow it may rain.” Leo Durocher
