COSMIC WEATHER:

“A reform is a correction of abuses; a revolution is a transfer of power.” – Robert Bulwer–Lytton

Well, now that we may know the fine distinction between reform and revolution, it is possible be that we see a bit of both of these occurring today as the big cheese Sun conjuncts liberating Uranus, the sometimes quirky, and often unruly, rebel stepchild of the Universe.

Change-agent Uranus is deemed to be unpredictable in nature, so it’s hard to ever know exactly what he has up his sleeve. It’s probably best for us to just prime ourselves for the unexpected today and hope it will be very good, unexpected stuff that develops in our lives.

Uranus can bring about sudden amazing breakthroughs and advances, especially of a more scientific or technological nature. This is especially the case in pioneering Aries, a sign also known for firsts.

At any rate, a very good day to perhaps consider instituting new procedures or processes in our lives to maybe make them more efficient.

BTW, Uranus is formally associated with genius; maybe many of our “IQ’s” will effectively get a boost today. Too, this is probably not a good day to resist change, as it could be a lost causewith w acky Uranus breathing down our necks, holding us captive. πŸ™‚

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Be willing to be a beginner every single morning.” Meister Eckhart

Today is the “spring equinox.” The official start of the astrological “new year,” when the Sun ingresses into “Aries the Ram,” the sign of new beginnings (7:21 pm EDT). In astrology, the “empowering” Sun symbolically represents our “core” or “center” around which everything else revolves. It is our deep “sense of self.”

The keywords for Aries are “I am.” On a personal level, this sign is all about discovering who we are as distinct creatures apart from the pack. It’s about reveling being in our own skin. Excitedly making our humble, unique contribution to the planet.

The Sun joins Mercury (thinking), Jupiter (opportunity), and Uranus (genius) already stationed in Aries. Too, almost as soon as the Sun enters Aries it conjuncts “awakening” Uranus (tomorrow), the electrifying “poster child” for change and innovation.

“Liberating” Uranus also rules aviation and the very last time we had the Sun nearing Uranus at the early part of “pioneering” Aries, back on March 21, 1928, is when aviator Charles Lindbergh was presented his “Medal of Honor” for his first trans-Atlantic flight. When we think of how aviation has drastically altered (Uranus) civilization on this planet, “freed us up” in many ways, we can glean a fresh awareness of the unlimited possibilities that exist before us, both individually and collectively, with this game-changing, (Uranus in Aries) inventive energy at our disposal. Uranus, of course, also rules technology. Too, most of the time, the only real limits that we ever face are the “self-limiting beliefs” that we impose upon ourselves.

“The real gold is what you are.” Alan Cohen

“If we long to believe that the stars rise and set for us, that we are the reason there is a Universe, does science do us a disservice in deflecting our conceits?” Carl Sagan.

“All great lovers are articulate, and verbal seduction is the surest road to actual seduction.” Marya Mannes

COSMIC WEATHER:

The chatty Gemini Moon gives us a desire to “verbalize our ideas.”Β  This is amplified even more so today with messenger Mercury, Gemini’s ruler, forming a semi-square to “do-your-own-thing” Uranus. An influence that characteristically makes us more inclined to put forward our “personal brand.” Also, assertive Mars in idealistic Aquarius is forming a semi-square to controlling Pluto, which adds to our level of intensity and passion. The shadow side of this Mars-Pluto aspect could make us somewhat more confrontational or manipulative (Pluto). Or, encounter persons who act in this manner.

Too, the powering Sun and energizing Mars continue in their tight conjunction in “group-oriented” Aquarius, a very potent aspect that is associated with risk-tasking and adventure. This energy has been in affect for the entire duration of the “people’s revolution” in Egypt the last two and a half weeks. Sun-Mars tends to “fire us up,” stoking our self-confidence and also making us much more willing to “do combat” for whatever we believe in, as Mars rules the aggressive urge, and also the urge for survival. Mars in Aquarius, too, energizes “group expression.”

Historically, with Sun-Mars conjunctions we typically have seen major new beginnings ushered in due to the “pioneering nature” of Mars. The Sun also represents world leaders and authority figures. I personally thought it was fascinating, too, that President Mubarak finally left office with the Moon in steadfast Taurus applying to an exact square to “dissolving, ego-denying” Neptune.

The Taurus Moon is known for “holding on forever,” but this ended up not being an option for Mubarak, in face of all the Aquarian (change-oriented) planets now, including the dynamic Sun-Mars conjunction, and also the Moon’s square to “surrendering” Neptune. Neptune rules the “urge for escape” or “withdrawal.” We often feel weakened with this influence and able to see the “handwriting on the wall.” Anyway, very happy for the people of Egypt. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Hopefully, it will be a positive new chapter for that country.

Additionally, today’s energetic Gemini Moon is good for fact-finding and gathering information, teaching, writing, short trips, and active pursuits. Too, love goddess Venus is still in alignment with passionate Pluto and with Valentine’s Day coming up on Monday, it could be that we want to get an early jump on it with our honey tonight. Since I am presently “unattached,” I went to the local Oreck vacuum store on Friday and purchased $53.00 worth of vacuum bags. So, I’m all set. Also, had my vacuum annually-serviced. What a thrill! I even was treated to an in-store demonstration of the “orbiter” carpet cleaner while I was there. Totally awesome. Was completely blown away by its’ stain-removing abilities. πŸ™‚

“We have it in our power to begin the world over again.” Thomas Paine

Most of us may already know the standardΒ  “New Moon” drill: New Moons signify “new beginnings.” A New Moon occurs when the Moon, in its monthly orbit around Earth, lies between the Earth and Sun, and is therefore “in conjunction” with the Sun as viewed from Earth.

The New Moon on February 2nd at 13 degrees of “liberating” Aquarius (9:31 pm EST) is more powerful than the norm because it conjoins “initiator” Mars, ruler of the aggressive urge. This could propel us into more of a “manic” phase, or launch at warp speed. A “do, do, do” mode. Mars represents the physical energy in the body. A caution here is that we don’t overtax or overburden our systems, or lose our tempers. Anger management may be very wise now for all of us. Remember, too, that expansive Jupiter is in Mars-ruled Aries which can also raise up our activity level, as we scurry about conquering new horizons. Aries is very pioneering and does not want to be restrained. Neither does this New Moon in Aquarius.

Also we may be tempted to take a walk on the “wild side” now because beatnik Aquarius can be somewhat of a rules-breaker, and is prone to experimentation. Additionally, during this lunation, “love child” Venus in “spontaneous” Sagittarius is forming an exact square to electrifying Uranus, the ruler of Aquarius, in “spaced out” Pisces. With Venus-Uranus, we are looking for more “freedom of expression” in our intimate encounters and also in our social life. A good time to maybe radically spice things up in the bedroom. We are also able to accept or tolerate, or may even become entwined with people who are vastly different than ourselves. This, too, is partly because we are much more bored with the tried-and-true, and restless for excitement.

Also, connector Venus is simultaneously trine to fantasy Neptune, giving us no shortage of phantom lovers to help us make it through the New Moon night. Whether that perfect specimen of a man, George Clooney, will be among this fanciful procession, remains to be seen. We can only hope and fervently pray that this is the case. πŸ™‚ Neptune represents creative types of people: dancers, writers, actors, singers, painters, etc. So Venusian alliances could pop up with these types of folks.

The New Moon in Aquarius also forms a harmonious trine to ambitious Saturn in “Beatles hold my hand” Libra. Not only are we pumped up to begin our lives anew, to take charge and make our defining mark (Mars), we also have the blessing of paternalistic Saturn, who is helping us to adroitly organize our affairs with precision and self-discipline so we can mightily ascend that exciting ladder of success. This trine to Saturn is big. Very big. No reason now why we can’t score that little house on the prairie with the white picket fence.

Too, even though a New Moon conjunct Mars can be fully self-absorbed, the trine to Saturn in relationship-building Libra suggests that we progress the most now by including others somehow into the cryptic equation. Busy little love goddess Venus is also pointing to the same thing. This is not a time for us to be an island. We want our personal freedom, yes, but we also are more inclined to be around other people now. With perhaps a marked preference for “new” other people who are unusual types. Also, Aquarius rules team orientation. This could be a key time to assume a leadership role in a group setting. Additionally, a wonderful time to immerse ourselves in positive, humanitarian causes for the collective. Our efforts can make a difference now!

“Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” Vince Lombardi.

“What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.” T.S. Eliot

“Just as energy is the basis of life itself, and ideas the source of innovation, so is innovation the vital spark of all human change, improvement and progress.” Ted Levitt

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Sun, our fab “power source” and indicator of our “conscious will” and “ego,” departs traditional Capricorn for unorthodox Aquarius (5:19 am EST), where it will reside until February 18th. The Sun is joining energy dynamo Mars already stationed here. With both the Sun and Mars in innovative Aquarius, a far-sighted sign whose natives include Thomas Edison and Abraham Lincoln, we are presented with vast opportunity to “change things up,” incorporate new approaches, don new strategies. All we have to do is have the courage to venture outside of our normal boundaries.

Aquarius also symbolizes “immersion into group activities.” So it’s good time to network and mingle with others. To join or become members of groups in which we can share common goals and ideals. Aquarius as a level of experience signifies causes that benefit the collective.

Additionally, the nurturing Moon is journeying through colorful, creative Leo today and well-aspected to both love goddess Venus (4:18 pm EST) and stabilizing Saturn (9:26 pm EST). Romance and affectionate expression get the green light. Some could even agree to commitment, or at least some kind of positive collaboration (Saturn). With the fun Leo Moon, too, we will want to be fitting in some entertainment, if not starring in our own dramatic stage productions. The Leo Moon loves to bask in the spotlight! Let the sunshine in!

“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” Charles Darwin

COSMIC WEATHER:

Many of us do not like change. This is often because change usually requires that we learn terrifying new skill sets. Or ambiguous new behaviors. It is normally easier for us to simply “coast along in our sameness,” as the beautiful people that we are already, minus the pressure of hideous modification. Plus, we may feel that if we subject ourselves to the onerous forces of change, we may wipe out, or put at risk, the tiny smattering of security that has taken all of our lives to accumulate. And, too, this could happen.

Of course, the great fallacy here with this type of rigid thinking: Life is always changing! It is never static, as much as we may like to “cling” to that fanciful concept. A static situation is a cessation of activity. That occurs only when we are dead. Or dating the wrong kind of men. Which could be even worse.Β  While we are alive, we have got to learn to “roll with those proverbial punches, baby” and adapt.

My little banter here is a prelude to today’s complex cosmic set-up: Moon vacates, “Please, just let me have my 19th nervous breakdown and be done with it” Gemini for, “All I want to do is preheat the oven and bake my life away” Cancer. The ambitious Capricorn Sun also sextiles “You’re talking change? I’ll show you change, by golly!” Uranus.

What this means in plain English is: The day starts out on the jumbled side (Gemini Moon), but the pace becomes more relaxed and familiar with the Moon’s entrance into homebody Cancer, and the oven now dutifully set at 325 (at 2:30 pm EST). The Sun’s link-up with unpredictable Uranus, however, suddenly gives us quirky ideas about venturing outside of the kitchen to go in the backyard to build a wacky space station (4:56 pm EST). The Cancer Moon part of us will have none of that crap and rebels.Β  So what to do? That’s something for each of us to decide in his or her own way. Do we want to stick with the tried-and-true Pillsbury doughboy today? Or, do we want to change things up and try to contact space aliens? Keep in mind, too, that pioneering Mars has just moved into Uranus-ruled Aquarius. Also, Jupiter is still conjoined Uranus. It could be that we’re suppose to “make that Uranian change” and venture into the backyard to tinker, and ideally see if we can also convince the motherly Cancer Moon to do some grilling outside, with the doughboy flipping the burgers. πŸ™‚

“It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory.” W. Edwards Deming

COSMIC WEATHER:

Energy planet Mars, symbolically depicting the urge for self-assertion, takes the big plunge and officially sky-rockets into hi-tech, futuristic Aquarius, the opinionated, scientific home of wacky astronomers waxing delusional and very bitterly about 13 zodiacal signs. (See link below)Β  Mars will stay in this sign until February 22nd.

With Mars in Aquarius, a sign which represents cultural diversity and “changing things up,” we are eager to venture off into unchartered waters, as long as we are able to cart along, of course, our smart phones and other technological gadgetry. Aquarius rules innovation and invention, especially more of a scientific or technological nature.

Theoretically we “progress” now by embracing or cultivating change, and utilizing new approaches or strategies in our daily endeavors. As part of this orientation we may want to collaborate with more original-type thinkers, or more non-comforming types, to get a fresh take on things.Β  We may want also to expand our networking efforts now and get involved more with group causes, or group ventures (Aquarius rules groups and friends). Mars in Aquarius = energy for groups.

The Moon also enters curious, loquacious Gemini today. In Gemini, the Moon provides us with more of a penchant and willingness for flexibility. In other words, more of an ability to go with the flow. We’re not as rigid now, and we’re also wanting to physically move around. We have more of a capacity to see the humor in any situation, too, as this Moon tends to be more light-hearted and likes to laugh. Humor is a positive trait that often gets overlooked, but it’s something that can come in handy for coping with the mighty stresses and woes of living in Madonna’s material world, but, unfortunately, without Madonna’s nifty checkbook to tote around.

Questions to entertain with Mars deposited in Aquarius:

How are we about embracing change? Do we welcome new strategies, or prefer to stick with the tried-and-true?

Can we recall a time when we tried a new approach with something and it saved the day for us?

Is there any one area in our life now that could perhaps benefit by employing new methods? What about changing aspects of our sex life? Mars does rule sex. Hmmmm. Sex life??? Can’t quite recall what that’s all about? ::scratches head::

If we could change one thing about ourselves, what would it be? Our nose? Our brain? The pattern of our fingerprints?

How are we at interfacing with groups of people? Comfortable? Uncomfortable?

Are we more of a leader, or a follower?

Are there any social or humanitarian causes that we could maybe get involved with now? Aquarius pertains to immersion in matters that benefit the collective.

What is the most off-the-wall thing we have done in the past year? Have we even done anything off-the-wall, lately? If not, why not? Could it be that we are packaged too tightly, and that we should give ourselves permission to roam around a little, or a lot? Especially when we are trying to locate the ever-elusive George Clooney.

“They must often change, who would be constant in happiness or wisdom.” Confucius

With Mars in Aquarius, this is the time to take bold, decisive action to get out of our ruts. Out of our stagnation. We should never allow ourselves to think that change is not possible for us. It is, and now is the time to seek out that change! This is also an excellent time for putting new systems or procedures into place. In other words, erecting new infrastructure.

One project that I personally intend to do now is get rid of the ancient computer PC in my home-office. I never use it. All it does it sit on the computer table taking up space. This scenario has been going on for over a year now, ever since I got my new laptop, because I have been terrified at the thought of having to deal with all the plugs and cords, etc. plugged into the computer. Plus, I don’t know how to clean the hard drive. I have decided now, though, that with Mars in hi-tech Aquarius I am going to somehow figure out how to proceed here and get rid of the frickin’ thing. Free up the chi energy around me. In fact, I am resolving to go through every room in my house and purge. I want the environment “different” around me now. I want to tap into the newness and freshness of Mars in Aquarius.

“A baseball park is the one place where a man’s wife doesn’t mind his getting excited over somebody else’s curves.” Brendan Francis

Cosmic Weather:

The empowering Sun in adventurous Sagittarius forms an exact square to high-voltage Uranus in Pisces (1:48 pm EST) – potentially throwing us a curve ball or two to keep us on our toes! Uranus symbolizes change and encourages us to break out of our predictable molds.

We likely progress now by going with the flow and not staging heavy resistance to whatever may be coming down the pike.

Meanwhile, the Moon is in money-minded Taurus during the day, then switches to chatty Gemini (10:38 pm EST). Setting the stage for the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Gemini on Dec. 21st.

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” Victor Frankl

News Update 12/18: With the Sun in politically minded Sagittarius and exactly square to change-agent Uranus – which is thought to symbolize equality issues – the U.S.Β  Senate has gone ahead and voted today to repeal β€œDon’t Ask, Don’t Tell” by a vote of 65 to 31.

The Senate has now sent the bill to President Obama, who had campaigned on ending the DADT policy, which banned gays from openly serving in the military. Some may say that the Senate through a “big curve ball” today. Definitely an historic day in America. (NYTimes.com)

“Live your beliefs and you can turn the world around.” Henry David Thoreau

Cosmic Watch:

With the Full Moon in archer Sagittarius (7:08 pm), we potentially focus our attention on our beliefs and convictions.Β Living authentically from our own point of truth is often regarded as the greatest gift that we can give to both ourselves and the world.

Too, the world around us may begin to change in bold and daring ways now with the entrance of liberating, revolutionizing Uranus into pioneering Aries, the sign of personal identity. (at 9:50 pm EDT).

Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, depicts new beginnings, particularly new personal beginnings. Uranus’s ingress into Aries ideally gives us a chance to free up how we think and feel about ourselves, potentially allowing us more options/possibilities.

Uranus will be in Aries for 7 years (although it will retrograde back into Pisces later this summer for a while before it firmly establishes here early 2011).

*All times EDT

Enjoy your day!
