Patricia’s Astrology: October 15, 1969 “The Vietnam Moratorium”

Tags

On This Date In History:

October 15, 1969 – The “Vietnam Moratorium” is held.  Millions of people protest the war (including Bill Clinton, who was a student at Oxford then). In the heavens, passionate “Warrior” Mars in Capricorn, the sign of government, is exactly square to “Philosophical” Jupiter in Libra, the sign of peace and diplomacy.

“Mars-Jupiter” is an aspect with a great history of “firing up our passions and idealism.” Mars, the energy planet, energizes whatever it touches and Jupiter represents our moral beliefs.  We are willing to “do combat” (Mars) for “what we believe in” now (Jupiter), similar to the energy of today’s Aquarius Moon which speaks to us about getting involved in causes “greater than ourselves.” With the Vietnam Moratorium, the protesters peacefully dissented (diplomatic Libra) against the “war policies”of the government (Mars in Capricorn). Mars rules war and the military.

Often Mars-Jupiter is associated with “religious fanaticism,” too, as Jupiter rules religion, and the nature of  Jupiter is such (especially when it is aligned with energizer Mars) that we can easily “go overboard” and get “carried away” with whatever we are involved with.

Even though Jupiter is an “expansive influence,” and more of a “benevolent planet,” sometimes the pitfall with it is we do not know when to “rein ourselves in.” For example, Jupiter is also associated with obesity and excess. We can’t stop with just “one jelly doughnut,” we have to consume a whole dozen! So, moderation is often needed and called for with Jupiter, if we are going to judiciously utilize the opportunity energies of this great planet to the best capacity.

Astrology: I Love Lucy Debuts With Venus Conjunct Mars

Tags

On October 15, 1951, I Love Lucy, starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, William Frawley, and Vivian Vance, debuted on CBS-TV. I Love Lucy, an American comedy sitcom that centered around the lives of two married couples, aired for six seasons.  For most of its run, it was the most popular TV show in America, and it is still in syndication around the world.

When the show premiered, the Energizing Sun, Communicator Mercury and Fantasy Neptune were all conjunct in Marital Libra and also sextile to transforming Pluto in Leo, the sign of entertainment. A fourth planet, Stabilizer Saturn, was also in Libra, and exactly opposite Expansive Jupiter in Pioneering Aries.

With such a prevalence of planets in Libra, the timing was natural to launch a fictional TV show (Neptune) about married couples. The sextile aspect to Pluto also helped to give the show unique, mass appeal (which Pluto rules) and also made it something that could potentially deeply impact the viewers – perhaps holding a mirror to their own marriages (Pluto’s ray tends to spawn deep insight). Pluto is also associated with “historic firsts” and the show helped to establish many precedents in television entertainment.

Also, for the I Love Lucy launch, the Love Duo of Venus and Mars, were tightly conjunct in Virgo, a sign with a penchant to please. (Even though Lucy was always “rocking the boat” at home, with her humorous, often oddball antics, she was also very anxious, in the end, to placate hubby Ricky.  The same was true for Ethel wanting to please Fred. I always dearly loved Ethel, didn’t you?  She seemed like a perfect “best friend” to have. The kind of friend who would never let you down. Ethel had simple charm and was deeply sympathetic. Nothing inauthentic about her. Fred was also a nice, low-key guy. They may a good pair. Both were perfect complements to the much more animated Ricky and Lucy.)

When Venus, ruling our power of attraction, is conjoined Mars, it not only tends to make us more attractive to the opposite sex, it also puts the topic of romance front and center on the table. I Love Lucy took it all one step further and brought the topic directly into our living rooms. It was a “big thing” during that time era.

Additionally, the Mercury conjunction to Imaginative Neptune, with Mental Mercury ruling writing, is also an extremely creative aspect for generating mesmerizing, “make believe” story lines.  This is a classic “storyteller aspect.” Neptune also rules acting and all the characters in the show did a superb job in that department as well. The I Love Lucy episode below, when Lucy and Ethel both got jobs at a chocolate factory, is one of my all-time favorites. It’s still funny, no matter how many times you see it.

Patricia’s Astrology: Mars Neptune and The Advent of Color TV

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

On This Date in History:

On October 14, 1964, Philips began experimenting with color TV. In the heavens, the transiting Moon was passing through Scientific Aquarius, the sign which rules television broadcasting. Activator Mars, in Entertainment Leo, was also exactly square to Photogenic Neptune in Transforming Scorpio.  Neptune rules photography and images, and the whole realm of “illusion” and “make believe.” The square is a powerful astrological influence that “forces action.”

“Mars-Neptune” is traditionally heralded in astrology as one of the most creative aspects of all. This is because Neptune rules dreams and the imagination, and Mars acts as a catalyst to fire up whatever it is aligned with.  The nature of Mars is also pioneering, so with the help of the Experimental and Technologically-Savvy Aquarius Moon, there was this attempt to develop something new in the way of Leo entertainment: “color TV images” (Neptune). Neptune is also often referred to as the planetary ray that makes us see things through “rose-colored glasses.” Another tie in here with color and vision.

Patricia’s Astrology On this Day in History October 13: Shroud of Turin

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

On This Day In History:

On October 13, 1988, the “Shroud of Turin,” a linen cloth depicting the image of a man who looks to have sustained injuries, consistent with a crucifixion, that some also believe is the image of Jesus Christ at the time of his burial, is shown by carbon-testing to “be a fake” from the Middle Ages. However, to this day, the matter is still mired in much controversy. Some critics contend that the samples used for the testing were not typical of the entire shroud.

Fascinatingly, on this date, Communicator and News Reporter Mercury was retrograde in Libra and, as many of us know, information received under a retrograde Mercury can be revised or subject to change later.

Also, much more central to the matter here, is Traditionalist Saturn’s exact conjunction with Discovery Uranus at 27 degrees of Sagittarius.  Sagittarius is a sign associated with formal doctrine and religion.  Uranus rules modern science and testing (the carbon-testing), and Saturn represents the established form and structure in our lives, which in this case, would symbolize the common perception about the Shroud of Turin.

With Saturn-Uranus, which is a very powerful aspect, there can be a “sudden attack or jolt” (Uranus) to the foundational fabric of our lives (Saturn).  Uranus perennially acts like a “bolt of lightning” out of the blue. Since the sign of Sagittarius is also involved here, this new emergence was felt in the area of conventional religion.

Additionally, the transiting North Node of the Moon was at 11 degrees of Pisces, the sign of mysticism and spiritually, and exactly trine to transformer Pluto at 11 degrees of Scorpio, the sign that deals with the mysteries of life, death, and rebirth (or resurrection).

Pluto acts in such a way to shine a flashlight into a cave. We glean a new consciousness or awareness of what was previously hidden or obscured from view. Pluto also rules death and the Shroud of Turin depicts images of someone who likely died from being crucified.  The North Node of the Moon is often thought to play a part in our karmic and spiritual evolution. With the North Node-Pluto influence we were seeing the Shroud in a “new light.”

Also, the transiting South Node of the Moon at 11 degrees of Analytical Virgo was exactly conjunct Venus, with Venus ruling objects that we love and value. Venus could also be representative of the Shroud or cloth itself, a material item of the past (South Node rules the past), being put “under the Virgo microscope” for further study and digestion.

The Catholic Church is the owner of the Shroud of Turin. The cloth is currently stored in the Cappella della Santa Sindone (the chapel of the Holy Shroud) in the Duomo di San Giovanni. It is only displayed every 25 years, due to the fragile nature of the cloth. It will not be displayed again until 2025, although there is a replica of it available for viewing.

“Any real ecstasy is a sign you are moving in the right direction.” St. Teresa of Avila

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Universe is suggesting we “mingle and merge,” this weekend.  It’s providing us with an idealistic, romantic Libra Moon all Friday and into Saturday.  The Moon will also conjoin “Love Goddess” Venus (4:59 am EDT Friday) and “Sex Lord” Mars (9:22 am EDT Friday).

The Moon will then descend into Sexual Scorpio on Saturday evening (8:27 pm EDT), at which time we are highly urged to practice our “night moves” with grace and precision, particularly when the Moon throws a “sextile” aspect to “Passionate” Pluto (1:37 am EDT Sunday).

We also have the option of continuing to perfect these steamy activities throughout the day on Sunday, as the Moon stays in Scorpio all day long. Or, we can choose to do weeding and yard work.  It’s up to us. We only need to make sure that if we do choose the second option, that we don’t get carried away and try to “get intimate”  with the lawn mower. A potentially painful proposition that could also result in an “uneven lawn,” which could make us wildly unpopular in the neighborhood.

In the News:

Federal Judge Vaughn R. Walker, on Thursday, lifted his stay on the same-sex marriages ban, paving the way for gay couples in California to marry in that state. Walker delayed, however, implementation of his order to lift the ban until August 18th.

Walker’s ruling a week ago, that a voter-approved ban on same sex marriage was unconstitutional, was rendered with pioneering Mars in Matrimonial Libra exactly squaring off with transformational Pluto in governmental Capricorn. Mars-Pluto can be indicative of someone “seizing power” or taking “forceful action.”  It is also a classic “war aspect” replete with power clashes and clashes of will. There is strong opposition to Judge Walker’s ruling.

Also, “Status Quo Preserver” Saturn in Nuptials Libra was opposite Uranus in Aries when Walker ruled last week.  Uranus is associated with equality and gay rights issues and also represents change. With the Saturn and Uranus opposition, once again, we had the pitting of the old versus the new, with the new winning out this time, perhaps also because of the simultaneously strong Mars-Pluto aspect which tends to bulldoze existing structures and protocol.

On August 18th, Saturn in relationship Libra will be exactly squaring transforming Pluto to a tee. It ought to be interesting to see how this aspect plays out. Saturn-Pluto can represent “death to the past,” but often not without a bitter fight and, of course, same-sex marriage remains a controversial and polarizing issue.

Enjoy your weekend!

I will be away from this blog for a while.  My 2 degree Aries rising is being sadistically hounded by the likes of Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto, at the moment, so I must go into seclusion and hiding for a while, with or without George Clooney. George, if you’re out there, I have some milk and cookies for you. Please stop by.

Anyway, I’ll return here once I deem it is safe to come back out. Right now, it’s a battlefield out there, so I’m seeking cover. I also do need some rest. Been burning the candle at both ends, and, sadly, there is very little of my candle left to burn at this point.

Cosmic Weather:

We may feel a desire/need to grab the spotlight today.  And, we have full approval and authoritative backing from the Cosmos to do so with the dramatic Moon camped out in theatrical Leo!

The Moon is also getting support from Venus in Leo, who is quite the little Diva running around town now. The Love Goddess (our power of attraction) is also still aligned with lucky Jupiter in discovery Aries and assertive Mars trine to mass influencer Pluto!

These are potentially powerful energies that don’t line up together very often and perfect for rightfully claiming our fame and fortune – if only for 15 minutes!

“I was always musical – yelling when I was a baby, singing into a brush and singing in the shower.”Susan Boyle.

Event in history on this date: “Beatlemania” opens on Broadway, June 16, 1977, with achievement Saturn in entertainment Leo exactly trine creative Neptune in Sagittarius – a great time to pay homage to the phenomenal legacy of the Beatles.

Cooperative Venus and energizer Mars were also conjunct in artistic Taurus and opposed to innovative Uranus in Scorpio – appropriate for a Broadway show honoring a group that revolutionized and transformed the music world!

Astrology June 14, 2010: Venus Trines Uranus

Tags

, , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Cosmic Watch:

“When you are in Love you can’t fall asleep because reality is better than your dreams.” – Dr. Seuss

Love Goddess Venus is entering royal Leo (4:50 am) and making a harmonious trine to Uranus, the planet of sudden attractions and personal magnetism. Venus-Uranus is sometimes synonymous with “love at first sight.”

Even non-romantic relationships started now can be very exciting and full of possibilities. For example: John Lennon and Paul McCartney met under a Venus-Uranus conjunction in Leo!

Venus is also associated with artistic expression and conjoined with inventive Uranus this influence can be very powerful for unique/original creative output.

Because Uranus is the “Change Planet,” we may also be attracted to persons now we normally would not be attracted to. Or we may be more willing to experiment or more tolerant of behaviors that we don’t understand.

This Venus-Uranus aspect also correlates with and favors more non-traditional or unconventional unions.  Often on Venus-Uranus days, for example, issues of sexual orientation and same-sex marriage come to the forefront.

Venus will stay in regal Leo until July 10th during which time we will want to be romantically courted and wined and dined in fine style. Venus in Leo loves complete adulation and also loves to party! May want to keep a close eye on making too many extravagant purchases now, one pitfall here.

The Moon will be in sensitive Cancer all day and then shift into dramatic Leo at 11:55 pm EDT adding even more to the emotional fanfare.

Event in History on this date: Auschwitz concentration camp opened on June 14, 1940.  Over 3 million people were killed there. At the time Auschwitz opened, the transiting Gemini Sun was square to undermining, deceptive, delusional Neptune in exacting Virgo. Intellectual Mercury was also in more protectionist-minded Cancer and conjunct warrior Mars.

News Update:

The New York Times is reporting the United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, which is far beyond any early known reserves and enough to alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Aghan war itself, according to senior American government officials.  It could be decades, however, until mining operations are fully established.

What is fascinating about this story here, astrologically, is pioneering Mars in earth-sign Virgo is now powerfully applying to an exact trine (harmonious) to Pluto in earth-sign Capricorn. This is often a major transforming aspect.  Pluto rules the mining industry and what is hidden in the earth. Capricorn, too, rules government and this discovery will fundamentally impact or transform (Pluto) the Afghan people and government probably forever. Mars

Very interesting too that this news is coming out with Venus trining the life altering Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in the discovery and war sign of Aries. As I’ve been writing all along, Jupiter-Uranus is huge for discoveries and surprising developments.

Astrology June 13, 2010: Moon in Self-Care Cancer, Supreme Court

Tags

Cosmic Watch:

Luna is in nurturing, protective Cancer today favoring matters on the home front and activities with family. Security issues may loom larger now. Excellent time for self-care.

In the News: Pilots for the low-cost American carrier Spirit Airlines went on strike Saturday.  This strike action comes on the heels of fiery Mars moving through the work sign of Virgo and separating from a quincunx to aviation ruler Uranus deposited in Aries, which Mars rules.

News Update: A massive effort is underway to clean up the damage left behind when a Chevron pipeline reportedly leaked up to 21,000 gallons of oil into Salt Lake City waterways Saturday. Restrictive Saturn is exactly quincunx again to Neptune, ruler of oil and water.  Saturn is also in cleanup Virgo!

Event in History on this date: On June 13, 1967, Thurgood Marshall was nominated as the 1st black Supreme Court justice. In the sky that day, transiting Mercury, governing thinking and decisions, was in nurturing Cancer, and exactly square to pioneering Mars in Libra, the sign that rules the Supreme Court.

Usually with strong Mars aspects, there are new beginnings and new developments for the sign in which Mars is transiting through. Squares also force action.

The transiting Sun in idea Gemini, too, was coming off of a square to both Uranus and Pluto conjunct in introspective Virgo, further suggesting the collective would possibly be grappling with some kind of transformational (Pluto) changes (Uranus) that could also involve issues of equality (Uranus).

Cosmic Watch:

“Thought Keeper” Mercury flits into curious Gemini this afternoon (1:41 am), the communication sign that it proudly rules. Mercury in Gemini ideally elevates our curiosity, accelerates our thinking, and makes us ravenous for information and conversation.

We also have an opportunity for colossal discoveries and the possibility of new inventions now as this Winged Creature will be connecting with both expansive Jupiter and futuristic Uranus via the stimulating sextile aspect.

Astrology Trivia: Triple A Motor Club, the travel-related entity which helps customers with tow service for vehicles when they are on the road, was formed on a day when travel-ruling Mercury was sextile to brain-storming Uranus!

*All time EDT

On This Day in History: President John F. Kennedy signs into law “equal pay for equal work” for men and women on June 10, 1963.

Astrologically, pioneering Mars was in Virgo, the sign of work, conjunct Uranus, the planet often associated with issues of equality. Mars conjunct Uranus, among other things, potentially instills a desire to improve the status quo especially how things are done in the workplace.

“You have to dream before your dreams can come true.” – Abdul Kalam

Cosmic Watch:

On May 25, 1961, with optimistic Jupiter, the planet of long-distance travel, in futuristic Aquarius, President John F. Kennedy announced before a joint session of Congress his goal of putting a man on the Moon before the end of the decade.

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and “BuzzAldrin landed in the Sea of Tranquility and became the first humans to walk on the Moon. JFK’s dream had finally been realized, but sadly he was not around to witness it.

Up in the sky on July 20, 1969 – as Armstrong and Aldrin were befriending the Moon, expansive Jupiter and innovative Uranus (ruler of Aquarius) were exactly conjunct (together) at 0 degrees of Libra.

Today, Jupiter and Uranus are conjunct again at 0 degrees of Aries, exactly 180 degrees opposite to that magical 0-degree Libra mark.

In social Libra, Jupiter and Uranus had us personally extending a welcome mat out to the Moon!  Now in self-discovery Aries, where will they be taking us? Where do you want to go?
