MARS IN PISCES

“How much has to be explored and discarded before reaching the naked flesh of feeling?” Claude Debussy

On February 22nd, Mars, symbolizing the aggressive urge, dives into emotional Pisces (8:06 pm EST), where it will, no doubt, try to make a big splash over the next six weeks. It is characteristically the nature of Mars to “stir things up,” as he represents our physical energy and ignites our passions, although when he is submerged underwater in Pisces, much of his “fire” is put out.

But, lest we get fooled by warrior Mars here, he can still be a barracuda! But, generally, he prefers to avoid direct confrontation in Pisces, if at all possible. Mars in Pisces also tends more toward passive aggressive behavior, or misplaced aggression.

However, with all that said, this time around, we still do have a lot of fiery “martian” energy at our disposal now, because expansive Jupiter is deposited in potent Mars-ruled Aries, actually in mutual reception with Mars, as Jupiter co-rules Pisces. Too, Jupiter is, and has been for the last few weeks, in a powerful square to obsessive Pluto (exact on Friday) which can make us more bent on pursuing unrestricted, “new beginnings” (Aries) with a heated fervor.

Too, Aries is associated with war and revolution, and we have witnessed all the unrest, demonstrations, and standoffs in the world the past few weeks. Mars has also been boldly empowering group expression in “power to the people” Aquarius. Also, rebellious Uranus is poised to enter Aries on March 11th for a seven-year stay, so the political landscape could very well continue to change in many nations during this time period. Freedom-loving Uranus in Aries will likely coincide with continued uprisings by individuals on a pioneering, self-developing quest to “do their own thing” (Uranus). Aries is more of a fearless sign, also it’s very impulsive and often acts way too hasty without giving enough thought to the consequences of its actions.

It is interesting, too, that with the opportunistic Jupiter square tyrannical Pluto, almost exact to the dot now, Libya’s long-time despotic ruler (Pluto), Muammar Qaddafi, may finally be ousted in wake of the mass revolt. Sadly, we have also seen many tragic massacres in Libya the last few days as the planets have moved into Pisces, which is more associated with persecution.

Too, it is wise to always note whenever Mars changes zodiacal signs. It is at those times when Mars enters a new sign that we often collectively see very notable or pivotal things occurring with respect to “Mars-ruled” matters: aggression, war, adventurous new beginnings, discoveries or breakthroughs.  Then, of course, we need to add the elements or things associated with the sign that Mars is going through.

Pisces, for example, rules the sea and oil. Oil is spiking upwards due to the unrest in the Middle East. We may all want to keep a very close eye on oil with volatile Mars moving into Pisces. When Chiron entered Pisces last year was the very day we had the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Mars will also be exactly conjunct Chiron on February 24th (the energy is already applying), so this could be a critical time period for the planet.  BTW, it was reported yesterday that BP reached a 7.2 billion dollar oil and gas deal with India on Monday.

Too, as I am writing this, a seemingly big news story is unfolding about the Suez Canal. Reportedly Iranian Naval Vessels have entered the canal. Warrior Mars in Pisces could, unfortunately, symbolize hostile conditions at sea, or around water.

News Update: It was also reported today that the four Americans taken hostage by Somali pirates a few days ago off East Africa were shot and killed today by their captors. (The Americans were first taken hostage with the Mercury-Mars-Neptune triple conjunction a few days ago.)

On a more uplifting note, we also have the Academy Awards on Sunday and Pisces rules films and acting.

Mars in Pisces is indeed a very imaginative placement for the “red planet,” if not the most creative place for it. Mars here often has a deep passion and talent for art, music, dancing, acting, film, photography. For example, Elton John, an Aries, who we mentioned the other day as someone with Mercury in Pisces, also has his Mars in Pisces.

Too, there is usually a greater desire for retreat and seclusion from the world with Mars in Pisces, as a way of recharging our batteries. Mars in retiring Pisces also normally denotes more of an affinity for mystical or spiritual pursuits, and can also give a gift for healing. Many people in the healing field have a notable presence of Pisces planets (or a strong Neptune) in their horoscopes.

Romantically, Mars in Pisces tends to be fantasy-driven and very sensual, so we will definitely want to clear our calendars to make sure that we do have plenty of time for steamy, nocturnal pastimes. 🙂

The shadow side of Mars in Pisces:  There can be indecisiveness, disillusionment, extremism (especially religious fanaticism). Too much of an immersion into fantasy or idealism. Also, Pisces is linked with drug and alcohol abuse. Of course, there is also more opportunity for deception, or simply more chance for weird, nebulous things to happen (due to Mars being in Neptune’s “spacey” home turf). Pisces also rules private sects and cults. Also, there may be more of a willingness to voluntarily play the “victim” or “martyr” role.

Too, with Pisces being more of a “selfless” or “ego-denying” sign, we ideally progress now by doing more for others than for ourselves, especially more for persons who are downtrodden, disabled, or down on their luck for whatever reason. Mars in Pisces can be very compassionate and charitable. We also have the Sun, Mercury, Uranus, and Chiron in Pisces now, so we have a notable Pisces vibration going on. Invisible energy that is hopefully imploring us to remember to kindly give each other a helping hand, or a comforting shoulder to cry on. The Pisces energy perennially sensitizes us to other people’s pain and struggle. We become more acutely aware of the fragility of life and the fleetingness, or even desperateness, of the human condition.

“Compassion is not religious business, it is human business, it is not luxury, it is essential for our own peace and mental stability, it is essential for human survival.” Dalai Lama

“Sweet baby” James is a Pisces. He’s a perfect template for all of the more noble, magical qualities of the sign, isn’t he? Love him.

Mental Mercury in professionally attired Capricorn forms a cool 72-degree link-up (quintile) with innovative Uranus in imaginative Pisces. We also have the social, romantic Libra Moon harmoniously trine inspirational Neptune, the ruler of Pisces (5:05 pm EST). We are able to formulate creative visual images (Neptune), original ideas. Things just flow, if we let them. Excellent day for any projects that require the full use of our imagination (poetry, songwriting, film-making, photography, dancing, art).

Later, the feminine Moon slips into “something sexy” when she enters passionate Scorpio (9:16 pm EST). Turn the lights down low tonight. Find somebody to love. Forget about old fart Saturn getting ready to station retrograde in matrimonial Libra. Make him wait with his torture! Tonight’s the night, babe! Everything’s gonna be alright. “Saturn, find somebody to lasso in with those sexy rings of yours, bro!” 🙂

“Open eyes, open heart, open up and fall apart.” Finger Eleven

COSMIC WEATHER:

Once again, the devilish Universe is serving up a mixed bag of offerings. First, we have the “drama queen” Leo Moon opposing “hallucinatory” Neptune in “Please befriend me” Aquarius (1:59 pm EST). This has the net affect of making us harbor “delusions of grandeur.” Or, simply “delusions.” Particularly within the framework of a group setting (Aquarius).

Then the Moon, scurrying around to keep on track with its frenetic daily schedule, departs Leo “the lion-hearted” for tidy Virgo “the virgin”  (6:11 pm EST), a time when vacuuming with passion assumes utmost importance in our lives. While vacuuming, our thoughts, of course, quickly turn to love and romance, especially for those of us who prefer to vacuum “au naturale” in the dark.

Fueling the flame of “connection fantasy” is love goddess Venus and her separate, tantalizing 72-degree hook-up with “I’ll take one lover on a pedestal please. But, hold the lettuce and pickle” Neptune. With Venus-Neptune, we have our glittery “veils on,” and only wish to see pureness and innocence in the object of our desires. We prefer not to gaze upon or take note of any of our lover’s shortcomings, or flaws. If by chance, the nitpicky Virgo Moon forgets this, and chimes in with a recitation of their imperfections, we only vacuum that much more intensely to drown out the harsh Virgo drill. 🙂

Actually, the Venus-Neptune linkup isn’t really that bad today for relationships. It’s a quintile aspect, and that can be very creative and imaginative. Also, great for art work, or any project that requires a flair for beauty and design. Too, a good day for shopping for objects of beauty and decorative accessories. Also, jewelry! Give your lover a piece of jewelry and watch their little heart melt! Ooh la la!

“Fantasies are more than substitutes for unpleasant reality; they are also dress rehearsals, plans. All acts performed in the world begin in the imagination.” Barbara Grizzuti Harrison.

“Pure love and suspicion cannot dwell together; at the door where the latter enters, the former makes its exit.” Alexandre Dumas Pere.

Venus, denoting our desire for love and affection, descends back into the depths of mysterious Scorpio November 29th, where she will be residing until January 7, 2011. As we may recall, Venus was recently in this same sign, September 8th through November 8th, before retrograding back into diplomatic Libra. Venus, the mythological “Love Goddess,” is the natural ruler of Libra, the sign of “the other.”

Venus depicts how we tend to naturally display our emotions and feelings within the confines of our intimate and personal encounters. As the natural planetary ruler of acquisition-minded Taurus, Venus also governs money and possessions, and our overall power of attraction. It also rules our values. We generally attract to us whatever it is that we value.

Venus also signifies outlets and venues that bring us pleasure and enjoyment, the recreational activities that we choose to do in our spare time. Venus additionally represents beauty and physical appearance, and symbolizes art and artists.

With Venus installed back into intense, transforming Scorpio, we are, once again, seeking a deep emotional renewal through our romantic and intimate connections. We are needing to feel the depths of passion and desire. With Venus in Scorpio, relationships are characteristically “all or nothing” for us.  We don’t pussyfoot around.

Venus in Scorpio is also very psychic and gives us an ability to keenly pick up on other people’s moods. It also exudes a lot of “animal magnetism” and can make us very sexy and sexual. Scorpio is, after all, the sign of sex.

Scorpio’s ruler, Pluto, is also very controlling, so with Venus here, we have more of an inclination to “crack the whip,” so to speak, in order to get others to “fall in line” with our personal desires and agendas.

Perhaps as an outgrowth of this same need for control, Venus in Scorpio tends to make us more calculating and shrewd, and very secretive and possessive.  We don’t show our cards, or let our guard down, until we feel it is “safe” to do so, and even then, there is usually residual jealousy and suspicion lingering around. Again, this is largely because of Pluto’s “darker” hold on Venus.

Pluto is associated with spying and probing, and unearthing whatever is hidden and submerged. Pluto even rules x-ray vision. Therefore, with Venus in Scorpio we are more inclined to “snoop around” and “ask a lot of pointed questions,” in our quest to get to the bottom of things.

“So where were you on the night of Nov. 24th at 3:15 am? Who were you with? What were you doing? What about the evening of the 23rd? 🙂

Venus in Scorpio can also be a time when our “old lovers” resurface, and relationships that were once “left for dead,” are rekindled or revived. Scorpio rules life, death, and rebirth.

On a monetary level, Venus in Scorpio may also bring about a revitalization of our financial situation, with new opportunities and new ways to make money, sometimes by reconfiguring elements of our past.

Activities favored with Venus in Scorpio: antiquing and going to estate sales, refurbishing our surroundings, updating our wardrobe, recycling, renewing beauty treatments, sexual healing and therapy, psychotherapy, psychic development, seances, channeling, meditation, attending to taxes, insurance, and estate matters, focusing on joint investments, undertaking medical and or scientific research.

COSMIC WEATHER:

Today, Realist Saturn is in a weird 135-degree alignment (sesquiquadrate) to Escapist Neptune.  It may be more difficult to stay focused on our practical goals, as Neptune’s murky ray tends to generate confusion, even paranoia. We may want to make sure that we carry around with us an “exit strategy” today, as reality could get a “little spooky” at times.  Too, we are coming up on Halloween.  Today seems to be a “fitting precursor” to that macabre holiday.

The Moon also switches from Chatty Gemini to Haunted House Cancer (3:15 pm EDT). The Moon’s opposition, shortly thereafter, to Dark Spirit Pluto (9:12 pm EDT) could be when the “poltergeist activity” reaches a fever pitch on the home front. 🙂

Today’s quote for the day:

“Confusion is the welcome mat at the door of creativity.” Michael Gelb

On this date in history:

On October 27, 1985 thieves reportedly stole 9 paintings including 5 Monet‘s and 2 Renoir‘s.  Aggressor Mars had just entered Artistic Libra and was in a tight square to Deceptive Neptune in Ambitious Capricorn.  Neptune rules paintings, while the shadow side of Mars is associated with criminal behavior. Mars-Neptune is often synonymous with swindlers and con men. Neptune gives a penchant for “duplicity” and “conniving.”

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Sentimental Moon leaves Idealistic Libra for Intense Scorpio (3:52 pm EDT) turning up the volume on our emotions.

Communicator Mercury conjuncts Serious Saturn in Relationship Libra (7:36 am EDT) inclining us to seek out substance over frills in our interactions.  With Mercury-Saturn, we want our words to carry maximum weight and impact.

Saturn, by itself, characteristically endows us with a strong sense of duty and responsibility. Saturn represents the work ethic and achievement. Mercury-Saturn, on the shadow side, can also trigger our fears and awareness of our personal limitations. With Saturn, we tend to be more acutely aware of our boundaries, our sense of separateness.

Venus, ruling money, art, beauty, music, romance, relationships, all the things that we love, also turns retrograde in Probing Scorpio today (3:05 am EDT), the sign of life, death, and rebirth. With Venus retrograde here, we are seeking “deeper” connections.  Deeper ties to both our past and present, and also, correspondingly, a more palpable sense of our own continuity and purpose. (Venus will be retrograde until November 18th.)

Symbolically, our lives are like great “Venusian works of art” in progress. Venus retrograde prods us to revisit and remotely observe some of what we have already painted or sculpted. We listen, once again, to the old songs that our hearts composed earlier. We  maybe recollect past relationships, retrace some of the kisses and hugs, recall some of the sorrows, awkward moments, the warm laughter that we shared together. The “retro viewpoint” can help us to garner new wisdom, insight, and inspiration about what we are currently facing and creating in the present moment with our lives. The past is essentially the yardstick we leverage to define ourselves and calculate our evolution.

Sometimes, too, Venus retrograde brings old lovers, old relationships, back into our lives.

On another level, with Venus retro in Scorpio, we are also more symbolically and theoretically linked with “great artists who have transitioned” beyond the Earth plane (Venus rules artists and performers). Scorpio energy connects us with”transitioning experiences.”

Just yesterday, for example, I got a telephone message from a friend telling me she had just lost her pet bird after 16 years. In my horoscope, Mars, the Great Activator or Trigger of events, was exactly conjunct my 8th house cusp in Scorpio, when I heard the news. This house  is associated with “endings” and death. My friend, who lost her bird, also has Pluto (Scorpio’s co-ruler) now exactly conjunct her 8th house cusp at 2 Capricorn.

Interestingly, Mental Mercury is now conjunct Karma Lord Saturn, in John Lennon’s old sign of Libra, making this perhaps a more fitting  time for us to mentally revisit and ponder the huge legacy that John, in particular, bequeathed to us. (It is John’s birthday, October 9th, and many events have been planned around the world to mark the event.)

Mercury-Saturn often denotes a mental focus on the past, on our roots or foundation. Sometimes this energy is also layered in with a touch of melancholy and sadness, due to Saturn’s heavier vibration and natural focus on loss and limitation. John would have been 70 years old tomorrow. John’s widow, Yoko Ono, will light the Imagine Peace Tower in Reykjavik, Iceland in his memory. Below is a link to the “Imagine Peace Tower Documentary.”

“Analysis kills spontaneity. The grain once ground into flour springs and germinates no more.” Henri Frederic Amiel

Sun files into Studious, Dutiful Virgo (1:27 am EDT). Moon is in Scientific, Hi-Tech Aquarius. Love Goddess Venus and Sex Pistol Mars are holding on for dear life together in Mating Libra. The Leo Sun is catching some grief from Fashion Coordinator Mars in Libra because the Sun’s gold-colored tie is clashing with the variant gold tone hue of its sunspots (Sun semi-square Mars).

“The Sun enters Immaculate Virgo today, a sign known not only for its fortitude for cleaning, but also for its vast intelligence and book smarts. With the lovey-dovey, sex duo, Venus and Mars, still cooing with every breath, I’m thinking that it’s a grand time to dust off those fantasies about quiet librarians.

We need to drop by the public library and maybe hang out in the Aquarian Moon’s science and technology section. And brace ourselves for some page-turning moments, as we feel the heat coming off the books, and finally spy the “prim and proper” librarian, passionately fidgeting with her eyeglasses. OMG!!!

UPDATED NEWS: We earlier had reported here that the Van Gogh painting “Poppy Flowers” that was stolen on Friday from the Mahmoud Kahlil Museum, had been recovered by authorities late Saturday night at an airport in Cairo.  It appears now that the news report was flawed (Mercury retrograde?), and the painting is, unfortunately, still missing. So, Saturn and Pluto still have some more detective work to do together. But, guys, we all have complete confidence in the two of you still solving this case.

The painting disappeared with “Sun opposite Neptune,” a classic signature of thievery and deception.  Neptune rules paintings, and its ray is often prominent in art thefts. Saturn in Libra (the zodiacal sign also ruling fine art) was also exactly square Control Freak Pluto at the time, plus Mercury had just turned retrograde. My intial theory was that someone wanted the art for their own collection.

My fellow astrologer, Dipali Desai, on Twitter Saturday said that there was a good chance the thief (thieves) would be caught because of Saturn-Pluto.  Pluto is the Master Spy and Grand Detective and Saturn-Pluto can create transparency. The two are also superb at holding people accountable, so maybe the crime will get solved.

One news caption on this story is reading: “Confusion Grows Over Stolen Van Gogh painting.” It may be more accurate to title it: “Neptunian Confusion Grows Over Stolen Van Gogh Painting, Made Worse by Mercury Retrograde.”

Hopefully, that will be the case for many of us today. That we will be so smitten with the Love Bug, that we won’t be able to sleep or eat.  We may not even care to vacuum, which would be just unbelievable to me, but it could theoretically happen.

The reason why is Love Goddess Venus is entering royal Leo (4:50 am EDT) and making a harmonious trine to Uranus, the planet of sudden attractions and personal magnetism. Venus-Uranus is synonymous with “love at first sight.”

Even non-romantic relationships started now can be very exciting and full of possibilities.  John Lennon and Paul McCartney met under a Venus-Uranus conjunction in Leo – and see where their relationship took them! And, aren’t we all so very glad that those two hooked up?

I can’t imagine what my life would have been like had I not grown up with the Beatles.  They had a profound impact on shaping our culture, not to mention their singular and vast contributions to music. Plus how many of us were also “in love” with them?  It seems like many of us each had our favorite Beatle. Mine was always Paul, with John a close second. (You may also want to read an earlier blog here that I did on John and Paul’s first meet up under Venus-Uranus.)

Venus is associated with creativity and conjoined with inventive Uranus this influence can be very powerful for writing original music compositions, such as was the case with Paul and John. Or for rendering unique artistic pieces. This would also be a good time to purchase more unusual art work, especially as an investment.  Too, this creative Venus-Uranus influence augments the excellent influence that we now have for writing with the Sun moving through articulate Gemini.

Because Uranus is the “Change Planet,” we may also be attracted to persons now we normally would not be attracted to. We are more willing to experiment.  We are also more inclined to be tolerant of behaviors that we don’t understand.

This Venus-Uranus aspect also correlates with and favors more non-traditional or unconventional unions.  Often on Venus-Uranus days, for example, issues of sexual orientation and same-sex marriage come to the forefront.

Venus will stay in regal Leo until July 10th during which time we will want to be romantically courted and wined and dined in fine style. Venus in Leo loves complete adulation and also loves to party! May want to keep a close eye on making too many extravagant purchases now, one pitfall here.

The Moon will be in sensitive Cancer all day and then shift into dramatic Leo at 11:55 pm EDT adding even more to the emotional fanfare.

Event in History on this date: Auschwitz concentration camp opened on June 14, 1940.  Over 3 million people were killed there. At the time the camp opened, the transiting Gemini Sun was exactly square to undermining, deceptive, delusional Neptune in purification Virgo. Mercury, governing thinking, was in protectionist Cancer conjunct warrior Mars, the planet of violence.  Mercury-Mars is associated with aggressive thoughts and acts of violence. Mars also formally rules the military.

It’s interesting, too, from a historic perspective, at the start of the Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900, the Sun was also exactly conjunct Neptune the day the systematic killings of foreigners got underway. Neptune is associated with fanaticism and distorted viewpoints, delusional thinking.  JFK was another person assassinated when Saturn was square Neptune. Also, ethnic violence and killings are presently taking place in Krygyzstan in Russia and we have Saturn quinqunx Neptune now.

I joke around here often about Neptune being spacey, etc., but Neptune is often no joking matter.  The current Saturn Neptune quinqunx aspect (Neptune rules oil and water) also figures into all the confusion and chaos that is and has been going on in the Gulf of Mexico stemming from the BP oil spill, plus there have also been other new oil spills under this same planetary configuration and Chiron in Pisces.

Neptune tends to undermine our confidence and can make us lose hope when it is receiving hard aspects.  A lot of times, too, under Neptune, the things that happen often don’t seem to make any sense and they are often very ego-denying and humbling to us, both individually and collectively. Neptune is also associated with scandal and embarrassment.

News Update:

The New York Times is reporting the United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, which is far beyond any early known reserves and enough to alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Aghan war itself, according to senior American government officials.  It could be decades, however, until mining operations are fully established.

What is fascinating about this story here, astrologically, is pioneering Mars in earth-sign Virgo is now powerfully applying to an exact trine (harmonious) to Pluto in earth-sign Capricorn. This is a MAJOR transforming aspect.  Pluto rules the mining industry and what is hidden in the earth. Capricorn, too, rules government and this discovery will fundamentally impact or transform (Pluto) the Afghan people and government probably forever. Mars

Very interesting too that this news is coming out with Venus trining the life altering Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in the discovery and war sign of Aries. As I’ve been writing all along, Jupiter-Uranus is huge for discoveries and surprising developments.

June 14th birthdays: Donald Trump, Dorothy McGuire

Cosmic Word of The Day: “Pompous.” We’re feeling a little bit more this way with Venus’s beautiful ingress into proud Leo.

Enjoy your Monday! Hope you fall head over heels today! Give me a report.

“Reality is merely an illusion, although a very persistent one.” Albert Einstein

Reduced visibility in my Crystal Ball today due to a foggy Mars-Neptune aspect that is, slowly but surely, closing in around us. This weird, intoxicating influence will technically be exact tomorrow, but already we are feeling its spacey affects.  The Moon in Aquarius also conjoins Neptune mid-morning (10:56 am EDT) and then enters Neptune-ruled Pisces early afternoon (at 1:34 pm EDT).

Mars fuels our passions, while Neptune drives our addictions and rules the urge to escape.  You get these two together and we have a lot of energy to run away to la la land. We also have to be careful with drugs and alcohol.

It’s tangibly harder for us to see things clearly now with Neptune’s veil of illusion engulfing us. We are also much less focused. It’s probably best for us to just chill out and try putting off working on important stuff, if we can.

This Mars-Neptune energy is super, however, for any creative projects that we might need to do, especially involving music or art, as Neptune rules imagination and Mars can get it all fired up.

Mars also rules sex, and with Neptune ruling fantasy and the Moon entering romantic Pisces, it might be a perfect day to call in sick.

In the News:

The oil from the BP oil leak is nearing the Florida beaches, as Mars aggressively opposes insidious Neptune, which rules both the sea and oil. Mars symbolically officiates over assaults and here we have a sea-related assault on the beaches beginning to play out, in addition to all the other mayhem and tragedy that has already occurred with regard to this matter.

We also had that unfortunate incident yesterday in which the saw (ruled by Mars) apparently got stuck in the pipe in the latest BP efforts to cap the oil. Mars rules accidents and mishaps such as that.

CNN is also showing Neptunian photos today (Neptune rules images and photography) of the “Aquarian robots” working a mile underwater in the Gulf trying to stop the leak, and we have Neptune, the sea, in technological Aquarius.

Chiron, the Wounded Warrior in Pisces, turns Retrograde on Friday and Mars is also applying to an opposition to Chiron that will be exact on June 8th and 9th. I wonder if the retrograde Chiron motion will have an impact on the current situation in the Gulf?  The day the BP oil leak occurred is the very day that Chiron entered Pisces. I had blogged here, the day before Chiron entered that sign, that I thought Chiron’s ingress into Pisces may have impact on sea and water issues, but I had no idea that it would happen so quickly.  Sometimes things do occur the very day a body switches signs.  Of course, Chiron’s entering Pisces did not “cause” the spill, but as astrologers we learn to “connect the dots.”

Chiron in Pisces may also end up being a big wake-up call for us, in terms of finally forcing us to move beyond our dependency on oil and pursue alternate energy sources.

Another “weird” story in the news that would fall under the “unreal quality” of the Mars-Neptune umbrella is Joran van der Sloot, the suspect in Natalie Holloway’s disappearance in Aruba (by the Neptune sea) exactly five years ago, is now the focus of an international manhunt after being suspected of killing a woman in Peru this past weekend.  “Mars-Neptune” energy always has the potential for darker elements to it, as Mars rules violence and Neptune rules sacrifice and all things hidden.  Mars-Neptune energy is often characterized as “misplaced aggression” or “hidden aggression.”  Neptune’s ray can be very deceptive and nefarious.  We do probably need to watch our tempers today to make sure that we are not acting out inappropriately.

Update: CNN is reporting that an Irish aid ship is heading for Gaza.  Israel warns of attack if the ship fails to stop.  Yet another manifestation of the volatile “Mars-Neptune” energy playing out on the high seas.

Update: NYT is reporting that the oil pipe has been cut this morning, reportedly a key step in halting the leak.  Engineers can try now to place a cap to catch the leaking oil. Hopefully, this is a positive manifestation of the Mars opposition Neptune “sea energy” and the technologically savvy Aquarian Moon conjunct Neptune.

Opposition aspects can bring matters to a climax, with Mars again signifying the “cutting action” of the pipe and Neptune representing both the sea and the oil pipe.

We have had so many things fail in this endeavor to date that it’s hard to believe that something good could finally be happening here, but maybe something is with this mystifying and hard to see through Mars-Neptune energy, since it is so sea-related and Mars rules new action, and Chiron is getting ready to retrograde tomorrow in Pisces.

Could it also be someone is looking out for us here – maybe a higher Neptunian power?  Neptune is our link to the Divine and Mars is activating that link now. Just a thought.  Also, a hope.

June 3rd Birthdays: Anderson Cooper and Tony Curtis.

Enjoy your Thursday. Make some “beautiful music” with Neptune, or maybe meditate, tap into its higher, more freeing expression.
