COSMIC WEATHER:

We are officially wrapping up the “first Virgo Moon period” of the new year, this morning. The Moon leaves “problem-solving” Virgo for “diplomatic” Libra, at 9:59 am. The Virgo Moon is also “void-of-course” today, so it is perhaps best to attend to, or finish up, any ongoing tasks while the Moon is still deposited in this sign. Then, when it cascades into “graceful” Libra, we are cosmically cleared to undertake new endeavors. Libra, the sign of the other, centers our attention on the relationship realm, and balancing the needs of self with the needs of others.

The Libra Moon’s only aspect today is a square, late tonight, to Venus, its planetary ruler (11:12 pm), which is presently in “traditional” Capricorn. Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is exalted in Libra, so really there is quite a bit of agreement or natural flow between Venus in Capricorn and the Moon in Libra, even though the square aspect can sometimes coincide with some friction, inner restlessness, or feelings of awkwardness. Generally, Moon-Venus aspects tend to bring out our social side, so if we’re still up, at this hour, we may want to be around people we like, doing things we enjoy. It may also be a time when we seriously ponder, journal, or discuss the nature of our relationships and how they are fitting in with our long-term plans or goals for our self.

“We have to recognise that there cannot be relationships unless there is commitment, unless there is loyalty, unless there is love, patience, persistence.” Cornel West

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Moon continues another day in “corrective” Virgo, ideally encouraging us to embrace a path of self-betterment. Also, it is spotlighting – via two early morning trine aspects – the ongoing “Mercury-Pluto conjunction,” a dialogue that is taking place in “serious,” Saturn-ruled Capricorn. This is, no doubt, giving way to a lot of DEEP, DEEP STUFF going on inside many of us. Mercury-Pluto, characteristically, helps us to get at the truth, on many levels.

Also, the Virgo Moon’s last aspect of the day, before turning void-of-course, is a supportive conjunction to expansive Jupiter, “the planet of abundance” (7:11 pm EST). Jupiter is also presently conjunct the “futuristic” North Node of the Moon. Possibly suggesting that this is a grand chance for us to experience a special “rendezvous with destiny!”

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Moon in “organizing” Virgo, today, helps us to get our affairs in order. It is also a very good time to be proactive about things, or to anticipate what may lie ahead. Virgo’s ruler, Mercury, is also conjunct “eliminating” Pluto, which is a green light for our ability to effectively phase out or discern what is no longer needed.

“When people will not weed their own minds, they are apt to be overrun by nettles.” Horace Walpole

Planet, Symbols, Mercury, Astronomical

COSMIC WEATHER:

Ideally, while “intellectual” Mercury has been retrograde for the last three weeks or so, we have been busy mulling over our recent decisions or ideas on things – including probably doing some “mental de-weeding.” Now, we are just about ready to move forward with our worldly agendas, as Mercury stations direct in “professionally ambitious” Capricorn this afternoon (4:50 pm EST). We may want to wait, though, for a few more days, before taking any important action, allowing Mercury a chance to pick up some speed. It will also be in its “shadow period” until close to Valentine’s Day, which also happens to be Michael Bloomberg’s 74th birthday. Bloomberg announced, this weekend, that he may run for U.S. President as an independent candidate.

Mercury is also stationing direct conjunct “investigative” Pluto. This intense aspect can deliver to us greater clarity, as well as incline us to want to ponder the “hidden nature of things.” It is also a time when secrets may be revealed. On the shadow side, we may need to, however, be on the lookout for obsessive type thinking now. Mercury and Pluto will be aligned, all this week, forming an exact conjunction on January 30.

Of course, in the Eastern portion of the U.S., many of us have also been dealing with incredible traffic snarls due to the extreme (Pluto) winter weather. Thousands of airline flights have been canceled from the historic snowfalls. Mercury also governs travel and transportation. Too, Mercury-Pluto aspects sometimes expose us to “crisis situations” that require our immediate attention. Physicist and professor of science Alan Chalmers once remarked that crises are often a chance for us to refine our life. “In them you discover what you are.” Indian Leader Jawaharial Nehru also observed that “every little thing counts in a crisis.”

If you have your natal chart, you may also want to take note of what house (or area of life) that Mercury is transiting through now, as that is where you will likely be experiencing some positive momentum now, as well as potentially more insight into how to better manage that sector of your life.

“There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. John Lennon

Water, Reflections, Mirroring, Trees

Today’s Energy:

As we count our many blessings this Thanksgiving Day, Saturn in Sagittarius is exactly squaring Neptune in Pisces, the first of three meet-ups that will be occurring over the course of the next year. This aspect has actually been building for a few weeks already. Saturn represents “form” or the “material world,” or what many describe as the “power of manifestation.” In addition, it denotes such things as discipline, experience or maturity, authority figures, achievement, and conservation. On the shadow side, it is a marker of our fears. Included here might be Saturn acting as the official scorekeeper of all that divides us, or makes us feel alone in the world.

Neptune, on the other hand, symbolizes “formlessness,” or the “dissolving of matter,” or what some might regard as the “invisible realm of spirit,” which, for many of us, can be a much more ambiguous concept to grasp or relate to. At its finest, Neptune is associated with such things as faith, hope, unity, compassion, and idealism, and as the higher octave of Venus, “divine love,” – or “unconditional love,” if you prefer. It also governs vision and the power of our imagination. Neptune can also, on the shadow side, be the face of such things as escapism, addiction, trickery, or deception.

The “square aspect” is an alignment that forces us to take action on a matter, as a way of resolving something. So, in this case, we may be deciding, among other things, on whether to be fearful, anxious, or suspicious (Saturn) – or whether to have faith or trust (Neptune). Or, maybe we conclude that it’s not an either or situation at all: that we can feel the fear, the angst, the pain, but still extend the olive branch anyway. Or, maybe if we’re unhappy with our work (Saturn), instead of walking in and quitting in haste (Neptune), we step back and see if we can evaluate the reasons for our dissatisfaction; be more structured or strategic (Saturn) in our approach.

Saturn-Neptune together tends to make us, in general, more starkly aware of our perceived limitations or drawbacks (Saturn), but the issue is whether or not we are going to let them define  who we are. And, whether or not we are going to let them hijack or ride roughshod over our dreams or vision (Neptune), or destroy our idealism.

Sometimes, too, when both of these planets pair up, we’re at a definite crossroads, in our lives, and basically unsure of which way to turn. Neptune does, after all, denote foggy conditions! So, it could be that the square energy might be a perfect time for us to just kick back and push the pause button a while, to lay low on our earthly agenda (Saturn), to grant ourselves a well-deserved time out (Neptune), until we’re better able to see our way ahead.  It’s possible that some of the visions that we’ve had for ourselves, some of the big dreams, are no longer really a go for us, no longer a viable option, and we have to face the music and quit kicking the can down the road. Or, we may decide instead that some dreams are salvageable, but that we need to maybe, at least for the time being, narrow the scope of them (Saturn), or do some creative re-configuring (Neptune), so as to not feel overwhelmed by our present situation. Kind of like when you have a cluttered house, if you at least restore order to part of it, you normally immediately feel better.

Happy Thanksgiving! Wishing you many blessings your way.

Astrology November 25, 2015: Full Moon in Gemini

“In the age of technology there is constant access to vast amounts of information. The basket overflows; people get overwhelmed; the eye of the storm is not so much what goes on in the world, it is the confusion of how to think, feel, digest, and react to what goes on.” Criss Jami

Moon, Full Moon, Moonlight

Today’s Energy:

A Full Moon in restless “Gemini the Messenger” (5:44 pm EST) revs up our thought processes and curiosity, potentially resulting in “information overload,” if we’re not careful. Since Gemini is the official sign of communication, there can also be a strong desire now to want to share what we find out with others, kind of like a cub reporter with a red hot news scoop. Gemini also formally governs news organizations and the media.

In general, Mercury-ruled Gemini symbolizes our logical thinking, our sense of wonderment, our interaction with our immediate environment, including our relationships with our neighbors or siblings. This sign is also associated with mass transit and travel.

Full Moons represent culmination points and can bring matters to a head, including what was undertaken – the intentions that were set – during the previous New Moon, which in this case, would have been the New Moon in the “transformational” sign of Scorpio, on November 11th.

Full Moons are also often revelatory, so it’s possible that new information will filter out to us now that causes us to have a fresh takeaway or a new slant on things. It’s also a good time to possibly even reflect upon the particular way that we individually process or sort out our daily experiences, or how we get to know things for ourselves. This could also include assessing our personal style of learning. For example, I recently concluded that I learn best when I take in information via audio versus more passive book reading. At least my level of retention seems to be better with the audio, even though I love to read.

With this Full Moon in Gemini, the Sun is in opposing Sagittarius, the sign of higher understanding, which suggests that, during this lunation, we are also attempting to attach meaning or significance (Sagittarius) to the information that we are receiving or gathering (Gemini). Or, as Criss Jami alludes to in the opening quote of this blog, we are trying to sort everything out in such a way that we know “how to think, feel, digest, and react to what goes on.”

This Gemini Full Moon is also opposing Mercury and Saturn in Sagittarius – which are both conjunct the Sun – as well as squaring Neptune in Pisces, so we may also be grappling with how our beliefs (Sagittarius) pertaining to safety or security issues (Saturn) impact or shape our willingness to be open, loving, and compassionate (Neptune) with others. Or, how our fears, guilt, or past conditioning (Saturn) may serve to keep us separated from each other – instead of unified (Neptune) – and what to do about it.

Questions for Today:  What are you most curious about? What is something that you feel compelled to share with the world? How do you go about sifting through news reports for accuracy? How do you feel about trusting strangers?

“When we keep our silence we gather our power; when we speak we let loose the concentration of quiet reverie.” Bryant McGill

Alley, Birch Alley, Tree, Birch, Rest

Today’s Energy:

Communicator Mercury is conjunct “focused” Saturn in “philosophical” Sagittarius (11:57 pm EST), an aspect that is normally regarded as excellent for our power of concentration as well as ideal for filling in the details of any long-range planning. Albert Einstein, a Pisces Sun, had this same aspect in his natal chart, but in pioneering Aries. In fact, it was the closest aspect, in his chart, with the conjunction occurring only one degree apart, suggesting that this planetary pairing would have a defining impact upon his thinking and general behavior. Mercury-Saturn is also thought to correlate with more of an aptitude for science, math, research, and critical thinking in general.

Because cautious, serious Saturn symbolically represents the principle of contraction, sometimes with this Mercury-Saturn energy we also tend to “trim the fat from our words” choosing to be as precise or succinct as possible in our speech or writing. Of course, with this conjunction occurring in “voluminous” Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius now, we may not be as parsimonious with our words as might be expected! At the very least, however, this may be a very good time to scale deeper with our thinking, to become keener observers of the world around us, or to hone or develop our listening skills.

Because Saturn also symbolizes our fears, worries, or concerns, Mercury-Saturn can also find us pondering “worst case scenarios.” Benjamin Disraeli once mused about this type of thinking this way: “I am prepared for the worst (Saturn), but hope for the best (Jupiter).” Additionally, on the shadow side, Mercury-Saturn can trigger more judgmental behavior, as well as an intolerance for views that are different from our own.

Enterprising Mars in “balancing” Libra is also sextiling Saturn today, an aspect that is linked with sustained effort, industriousness, and planning for tomorrow, sort of akin to a farmer diligently sowing seeds for future crops. Too, with Mars in “collaborative” Libra, it can indicate a positive period for formulating or arranging diplomatic or cooperative strategies.

The Moon in “stabilizing” Taurus also potentially supplies us with extra reserves of patience and perseverance today. French playwright Moliere noted that the trees that are slow to grow “bear the best fruit.”

Questions for Today: What topics are more difficult for you to talk about, and why? Where in your life do you maybe need to let go of judgments? What might you need to say “no” to now as a way of loving self-care?

“It is the imagination that argues for the Divine Spark within human beings. It is literally a decent of the World’s Soul into all of us.” Terence McKenna

Today’s Energy:

The Sun trining “transcendent” Neptune encourages us to want to connect to a power greater than ourselves. Sun-Neptune aspects can also be positive for helping to dissolve the differences between us as they tend to foster a greater recognition of our common humanity, our intrinsic oneness. Sun-Neptune energy also helps to subdue the needs and desires of the ego while, at the same time, sensitizing us to the needs or plights of others, especially those persons who are perhaps down on their luck. Neptune is linked with compassion, forgiveness, idealism and humility, as well as with visions, imagination, and creativity.

Often, too, with Neptune aspects we experience a spike in synchronistic occurrences. In her book, The Tao of Psychology, Dr. Jean Shinoden Bolen says that synchronistic events offer us perceptions that may be useful in our psychological and spiritual growth. “And they may reveal to us, through intuitive knowledge, that our lives have meaning.”

Astrology October 27, 2015: Full Moon in Taurus

“Flying starts from the ground. The more grounded you are, the higher you fly.” J. R. Rim

Moon, Cypress, Mountains, Moonrise

Today’s Energy:

Today’s illuminating Full Moon in “grounded” Taurus (8:05 am) is a chance for us to become more aware of what it is that we need to adhere to, or how it is that we need to be, in order to psychologically feel safer or more secure in the world. Conversely, since this is a Full Moon, there may also be insights now regarding what experiences that we may need to release or let go of, so that we will be better able to accommodate a new order, into our lives.

Venus-ruled Taurus symbolizes what we value or appreciate; or what we want to attract.  It is also in the practical experiences of this sign that we learn how to manage or care for our personal resources, including learning how to handle our money and possessions. When I think about Taurus, too, I always think of a quote by Gloria Steinem in which she says (paraphrasing her now) that “our checkbook stubs always reflect our true values.”

Also, since Taurus rules the Earth, communing with nature is perhaps an excellent way for us to feel more grounded or centered inside our bodies now. The late Scottish naturalist and author, John Muir, once said that the “clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” Generally, any experiences that indulge or engage our physical senses are highly favored now.

With this Taurus Full Moon, the Sun, which symbolizes our ego, is in the opposing sign of Scorpio, meaning that we are also seeking to integrate or balance other people’s values with our own now (the Scorpio experience), as well as learning how to share what we have with others.

Too, Since Taurus and Scorpio are both fixed signs, there can be more awareness of our own “inner resistance” to letting go of such things as our own stubbornness, stinginess, or possessiveness, traits which both Taurus and Scorpio archetypally represent, on the shadow side. We may also want to ponder, now, how holding onto these sorts of more grasping behaviors may be working to preserve the status quo, in our lives, instead of allowing us to move along more freely into the bigger, more fluid world of our dreams.

Instructive Saturn, in “philosophical” Sagittarius, is also quinqunx this lunation suggesting that our beliefs (Sagittarius) and values (Taurus) may need to be shifted around or reconciled in some manner.  Too, it could be, that maybe we are coming to the realization that our actual lives, in some way, do not really reflect what we say that we believe in.

On the other hand, we may discover that our beliefs, or the stories that we tell ourselves about ourselves and the nature of the world, are too self-limiting, and that they may need to be revamped because they are holding us back in various ways, including possibly even interfering with our ability to prosper or experience a sense of abundance in our lives.

Saturn also specifically represents our fears and guilt, and it could be that we are being challenged now to face some of what makes us afraid or fearful, especially with respect to our security or survival needs. We may also be learning lessons in how to be more responsible (Saturn) in the management of our resources (Taurus), so that what we have accrued, or are accruing, will be able to serve us over the long haul. Money guru Suze Orman says that the only way that we will ever take control of our financial life is to “dig deep and fix the root problem.”

Fortunately, we also have a stellium of planets in “corrective” Virgo now (Mars, Venus, and Jupiter), which can make us very resourceful in figuring out practical, common-sense solutions to our issues.

Transcendent Neptune is also sextiling this lunation, potentially empowering us with a faith in “unseen forces.” This influence can also serve to invoke our compassion, for both ourselves and others.

Venus in Virgo, the ruler of this Taurus Full Moon, is quinqunx “unconventional” Uranus in Aries, an influence that can make us seek out novel pleasures, as well as our wanting, perhaps, to have more wiggle room in relationships. This aspect could also bring up some questions regarding how we can serve others (Virgo), while still being true to ourselves (Aries). “I don’t want my life to be defined by what is etched on a tombstone. I want it to be defined by what is etched in the lives and hearts of those I’ve touched.” Steve Maraboli.

Questions for Today: How do you need to live in order to thrive? What comes up for you when you think of the word ‘money?” How would you characterize your relationship with the Earth? What have you learned about your own life by observing nature?

In the News:  Just a few hours before the Full Moon in Taurus, Congress and the White House reach a tentative budget deal (Taurus) and decide to raise the debt ceiling (Scorpio). This deal, if it’s passed, would represent a major breakthrough after years of gridlock in Congress, especially on fiscal issues. (NYtimes.com).

We are also seeking experiences, at this time, that will make us come to life emotionally.

The Moon’s late night square to “perceptive” Pluto (11:27 pm) is an opportunity for us to go deeper into our feelings, especially allowing us to see things in a new light; although, at the same time, we may want to avoid getting hung up on “what’s not working” then, an orientation which can be a subtle form of self-sabotage.

Relationship Venus, “the goddess of love,” conjuncts “generous” Jupiter in “service-minded” Virgo (4:03 pm). When these two planets pair up there’s always an eternal hope that we will be able to act in more loving ways toward each other, with Jupiter’s ray ideally expanding the unifying or connectivity properties of Venus. Venus-Jupiter can also be a time when we seek out more fun or pleasure.  A shadow side here is that we could become over-indulgent or overspend.

With this Venus-Jupiter conjunction occurring in “repair-oriented” Virgo, there’s robust potential for fixing what may be broken or amiss in our relationships, or in the environment around us. We also may be more inclined to “take the high road” in our interpersonal dealings, with Venus-Jupiter coinciding with more of a “generosity of spirit” and wanting to see the best in others.

Intellectual Mercury in Libra is also opposing “radical, progressive” Uranus in Aries (6:59 pm). This influence tends to “speed up our thinking,” as well as strengthen our intuition. It can be an excellent energy for brainstorming or finding new or unconventional solutions to old problems. Additionally, this aspect may foster stimulating group discussions, especially with respect to social issues.

All times EDT.

Questions for Today: How could you “take the high road” now? What could you overlook as a way of healing or improving your relationships?

Astrological Trivia: When Venus and Jupiter were conjunct in “romantic” Leo, on July 1, 2015, the Episcopal Church in the U.S. adopted its liturgy for “same-sex marriages.” (courtesy of Wikipedia.com). It should also be noted here that Jupiter does govern organized religion and philosophy.
