Our creative and original ideas flow more freely with the colorful Sun in Leo’s harmonious trine to ingenious Uranus in new beginnings Aries, the planetary ruler of technology and innovation. Employing new approaches is likely the positive North Star that guides us to liberating changes today. The Moon’s entrance into nesting Cancer (4:37 am EDT) encourages us to get back to our familial roots. It also raises the volume up on our emotions, especially those centered around our protective instincts. We may need to rein in feelings of rebelliousness and defensiveness when the Moon squares freedom-loving Uranus in Aries (12:05 pm EDT) and opposes controlling Pluto in career Capricorn (5:09 pm EDT).

There is also a “tricky” aspect to the day with mental Mercury in Gemini’s  square to nebulous, confusing Neptune which can serve to fog up our perceptions. We are cautioned not to believe all that we hear today and are well-served to thoroughly comb through all the facts. Neptune’s ray can be very deceptive and misleading. It is also linked with scandals and cover-ups.

On the plus side, it can be excellent time for any creative work that utilizes our powers of imagination, which Neptune governs. Neptune is also stationing retrograde today favorable for turning our focus inward (Neptune rules spirituality). Neptune stays retrograde until early November.

However, the Cancer Moon’s restless square formations to Venus, Mercury and Jupiter, in “new beginnings” Aries, and the stable Taurus Sun’s semi-square to “awakening” Uranus in Aries, also nudges us on to seek out “extraordinary” (Uranus) new experiences, perhaps with family members, in hopes of adding to our divine soul’s rich treasure trove of unforgettable moments.

Things may be a bit “topsy turvy” today with the Moon in emotional Cancer forming squares to unpredictable Uranus in Aries and restrictive Saturn in Libra, and also an opposition to reforming Pluto in Capricorn. This alignment activity sets up a dynamic cardinal cross in the sky.

Cardinal sign energy (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) is thought to be very active and initiating. Accordingly, the pace around us may quicken now.

We possibly progress now by being more flexible, aware, and perhaps simply going with the flow. Sometimes, this buildup of cardinal energy spawns heroic or uncommon efforts.  Other times, creativity. (Elvis Presley was born with a grand cardinal cross).

On a sweeter note, communicator Mercury and love maven Venus are aligned together in flirty Aries, potentially boding well for weekend romance! This Mercury-Venus aspect will be exact on Monday.

Too, with this influence applying yesterday, it was announced that Beatle Paul McCartney is planning another trip down the aisle (trip #3) with his New York girlfriend of four years, Nancy Shevell (she’s reportedly a cousin to Barbara Walters). Not sure of the wedding date.

We have what may be a “trifecta” of a day today with the galloping Gemini Moon sextiling Mercury (ideas), Jupiter (opportunity), and Mars (initiative) in “race to the finish line” Aries.

This might be a fantastic time to unabashedly promote ourselves, our pet projects, and our ideas We can potentially be more convincing now and more enthusiastically received.

Also, communicator Mercury’s conjunction to “goddess of love and beauty” Venus bodes well for affairs of the heart and discussion of romance.  It may also be a highly creative influence. An ideal day for writing; might also be a good time to go shopping for clothes or things of beauty for the home.

The Moon also shifts into homebody Cancer, late in the day (10:32 pm), forming a cocooning trine to fantasy Neptune (11:54 pm).

Of course, with so much sadness and tragedy going on in the world today, it is potentially more challenging for many of us to feel hopeful.

However, we do have mental Mercury exactly aligned with optimistic, philosophical Jupiter (9:27 pm) now. Mercury conjunct Jupiter is often synonymous with “keeping hope alive” and imagining wondrous possibilities. With expansive Jupiter, we tend to focus on the bigger picture or attempt to connect all the dots, which can alter our perspective.

The Moon also shifts from sensitive Cancer to self-expressive Leo (3:34 pm), forming a powerful trine to electrifying change-agent Uranus in Aries (3:56 pm). Moon-Uranus could elevate our emotions and also our self-esteem. Too, perhaps it will bring about some sudden breakthroughs (Uranus).

The Moon continues in sentimental Cancer beckoning us to connect with our roots, especially our familial roots. The Moon’s chilly square to Saturn (1:15 pm EST), however, may make us feel somewhat like an island.

Too, even though we may feel “cut off” doesn’t mean we have to stay in that mindset. Especially since we also have “Love Goddess” Venus forming a magical trine to stabilizer Saturn (8:35 pm EST), a classic astrological template for building “rock solid” relationships. With Venus-Saturn we tend to get more serious-minded (Saturn) about love and romance (Venus). The idea of commitment is more appealing, perhaps because Saturn governs the “security urge.”

On another level, Venus-Saturn can also be descriptive of “May-December” romances (Saturn rules older individuals). Possibly, too, there may be more of an inclination to seek out ties with older persons at this time because these persons may be perceived as a “safe harbor” for us.

Also, assertive Mars in dreamy Pisces is quinqunx Saturn (8:54 am EST). There is a tendency to “start and stop” things, or get curtailed by hurdles, instead of just following through. The best way to override this influence is to simply keep our eyes fixed on manifesting our daily intentions or short or long-term goals, while also holding ourselves accountable (Saturn). Saturn can challenge us to be self-disciplined.

The nocturnal Moon shifts from nesting Cancer to big hair Leo (4:15 am). We long to hear the sound of applause and are eager to graciously take our bows on stage. The entertaining Leo Moon always desires a good measure of ego-stroking and self-glorification and is willing to “sing for its supper” in order to realize these things. Leo is the zodiacal sign that rules our talent and gifts.

The Moon’s dynamic trine to fortuitous Jupiter in new beginnings Aries (12:31 pm) also ideally helps to boost our creativity and optimism. Doors could suddenly open up for us with this aspect. We may want to maximize our exposure then and plant hopeful seeds of golden Leo opportunity.

We may, however, want to guard against being too controlling and dark when the Moon forms a funky quincunx to despot Pluto (3:28 pm). Too, we still have the volatile Sun conjunct Mars aspect which can unleash our aggressive urge. On the plus side, though, this same aspect can make us courageous.

With the Moon in emotionally vulnerable Cancer and connection queen Venus, forming a semi-square to deceptive Neptune, we are well-served today to heed Ms. Radcliffe’s more tried-and-true philosophy. Size people up by their actions, not their assertions.

Too, with communicator Mercury also forming a semi-square to bloated Jupiter, we are likely going to be fed a bunch of hyperbole anyway, as Jupiter likes to embellish and stretch things. But, again, we do best just sticking with the “plain and simple” facts today. No pie ala mode. Hold the pickle. 🙂

In the news: President Obama unveiled his 2012 Federal Budget on Monday with communicator Mercury in idealistic Aquarius exactly trine to Saturn in Libra. Saturn rules budgets and Libra rules Congress. Mercury-Saturn symbolizes more of a “budget-conscious” mindset.

Of course, we also have expander Jupiter in trailblazing Aries now forming a tight square to purging Pluto in governmental Capricorn, so needless to say, there will probably end up being a lot of “elimination” from this proposed budget, as is normally the case. With Jupiter-Pluto, though, the cuts could even be deeper, this time around, as bulldozer Pluto tends to decimate.

This Valentine’s Day finds us navigating a potentially more complex emotional terrain with the nurturing Moon entering feeling-oriented Cancer (12:50 am EST) and forming a wide array of “roller coaster” aspects to Jupiter, Pluto, Mars, the Sun, and Venus.

Not to worry, though. Because on the flip side of this cosmic coin, mental Mercury, governing communication, is forming an exact harmonious trine to “no frills” Saturn who wisely advises us to keep our Cupid’s messages for each other short and to the point. (With Mercury-Saturn, less is always more.) Accordingly, “Need you now” may be all we really need to say today to be a big hit with our sweetie. Along with, of course, “I love you.”
