COSMIC WEATHER:

The Domestic Moon remains in Divinity-Seeking Pisces. We are wanting to embark down those insightful roads that will lead us back to our soul’s “original home.”

With Mental Mercury in Peace-Keeping Libra quinqunx to Erratic Uranus, however, which is also positioned in Mystical Pisces, we may be a little unsure about which roads are really the “right roads to go down,” to ensure our soul’s sacred journey.

At the end of the day, The Balanced Libra Sun harmoniously trine to Spiritual Neptune in Futuristic Aquarius, beseeches us “not to worry.” The Sun-Neptune wisdom serenely purports to us that eventually “all paths lead to the same door,” and that all we need to remember is that “we are all one.”

Activities favored today: random acts of kindness, writing poetry, music, songs, prayer, meditation, theater, acting, experimenting with make-up, decorating, collecting seashells, befriending fishes, absconding with enlightened mermaids.

Quote For Today:

“By faithfulness we are collected and wound up into unity within ourselves, whereas we had been scattered abroad in multiplicity.” Saint Augustine

On This Date In History:

October 19, 1983: The U.S. Senate establishes Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday. Very notable here then was Pioneering Mars in Analytical Virgo in a tight square to Philosophical Jupiter in Highly Principled Sagittarius, the sign that Jupiter naturally rules.  Mars-Jupiter tends to “fire up” our idealism (Jupiter) and makes us want to go to war (Mars) for what we believe in (Jupiter). It is traditionally associated with political and social activism.

I also blogged the other day here how sometimes, too, Mars-Jupiter aspects are associated with “religious fanaticism,” as Jupiter also rules religion and Mars adds fuel and passion to that body of beliefs.  We always need to be careful with Mars-Jupiter that we don’t go overboard, as Jupiter tends to excessive behavior anyway, and on the shadow side, can additionally make us somewhat arrogant and cocksure that we alone hold the truth.

Additionally, Jupiter was separating from a conjunction to Equality-Ruling Uranus, which was also in the sign of Higher Beliefs Sagittarius. Uranus, ruling matters involving groups and the collective, characteristically delivers to us sudden insights and awareness, and in Sagittarius, these insights can help to shape our moral beliefs and behavior. Jupiter-Uranus tends to take us out of our normal belief set and allows us to feel more comfortable with or embrace non-traditional ideas, shatters some of Jupiter’s “moral superiority” notion.

We also presently have Jupiter and Uranus conjunct now in Idealistic Pisces, a sign that Jupiter co-rules with Neptune. Equality and humanitarian issues are emphasized with this conjunction and just last week, we had the federal judge striking down the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy, which had been in place in the military for almost two decades.

Another cool parallel to today was the Justice-Seeking Libra Sun then was exactly sextile to Compassionate Neptune which was also in Sagittarius. Today we have the Libra Sun trine Neptune in Brotherly Aquarius, a very similar aspect. Neptune is our link to the Divine and represents a state of consciousness in which “we are all one,” our personal borders and boundaries are dissolved.  Our compassion and humanity are stoked and we realize that we are all in this together. On Sun-Neptune days we become more preoccupied with our unity versus our differences. Therefore, we are more likely to espouse a a political philosophy of “inclusion,”  even on Capitol Hill.

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Moon continues in Altruistic Aquarius, switching to Sympathetic Pisces later in the day (until 10:52 pm EDT). Excellent energies for immersing ourselves in group activities. Our creativity, psychic, and spiritual impulses are also accentuated with the Moon’s monthly conjunction to Imaginative Neptune, our symbolic link to the Divine (2:49 pm EDT).

Romance also gets the go ahead with the Moon’s harmonious aspects to the Illuminating Sun and Communicator Mercury in Relationship Libra.

What we want to watch out for today, however, is a tendency to “faulty judgment,” especially over-promising “more goods than we can deliver.” This is because of Mental Mercury’s powerful quinqunx aspect to Exaggerating Jupiter.  This is also a good time to watch our “word-count,” and to remember that “less is more,” lest we bore others with our “rambling speech.”

Today’s Quote For The Day:

“You must learn to be still in the midst of activity, and to be vibrantly alive in repose.” Indira Gandhi

On This Date In History:

On October 17, 1933, scientist, Albert Einstein, arrived in the United States as a refugee from Nazi Germany. The popular Venus and Mars Love Duo were tightly conjunct in Scholarly Sagittarius, the sign that rules long-distance travel.  Both Venus and Mars were also harmoniously sextile to Fortuitous, Protective Jupiter (the natural ruler of Sagittarius) in Diplomatic Libra. These energies could be interpreted as “a notable, popular academic” (Venus-Mars) seeking “opportunities abroad” (Jupiter and Sagittarius) in a more “peaceful atmosphere” (Libra).

There was also an exact, very potent Cardinal-T Cross activated in the sky that day involving the Sun in Libra, Uranus in Aries, and Pluto in Cancer. A Cardinal-T Cross usually tends to “force action” and especially with the outer planets involved, there was the opportunity then for action occurring that would be “significant for the collective” (Pluto rules the masses).

Pluto also rules control and tyranny, and Einstein was seeking to flee a dangerous and controlling environment that also put “his personal safety” at risk (Pluto does rule life and death issues).

It is interesting to note here, too, that Uranus, the ruler of scientific Aquarius, signifies “genius,” and it was deposited in the “new beginnings” sign of Aries. Uranus additionally represents the quest for “personal freedom.”

Transforming Pluto was in domestic-ruling Cancer (the U.S. is also a Cancer country), and the Life-Giving Sun was in peace-loving Libra.

English translation: “A genius embarks on a new personal beginning, makes a transformational residential change, in his bid to live in a more peaceful, safer environment, and enjoy a freer life. A personal move with major life-changing implications  (Uranus and Pluto) for the planet.”

Notable Deaths: Barbara Billingsley, who portrayed mom, “June Cleaver,” on the 1950s hit TV sitcom, “Leave It To Beaver,” died on Saturday at the age of 94.

Barbara, a Sagittarian, born December 22, 1915, had her Nurturing Moon in Cancer, the sign that denotes “Mother.” The Cancer Moon helped to make her a naturally sympathetic figure.

Her Moon was also conjunct both Pluto and Saturn.  Moon-Pluto can give one great “healing ability” (the rejuvenating nature of Pluto) and deep emotional insight.  Interestingly, Pluto, ruling “the masses,” can also make one famous, and Barbara would forever be remembered for her “Cancerian-Moon role” as “Wally and Beaver’s Mom.”

The Moon-Saturn aspect also gave her depth and seriousness, and no doubt, she probably took her role as a “Mom,” very seriously, in real life and on TV.  Barbara was a beautiful lady and will be greatly missed. (Below is a Youtube link to Leave It To Beaver.)

Patricia’s Astrology Venus Retrograde in Scorpio: Govt Shuts Down!

On This Date In History:

On October 16, 1986, the U.S. government closed down due to “budget woes.” Interestingly, on that very same day, Venus, which rules money (also relationships), turned retrograde in the sign of Scorpio at 20 degrees.  Scorpio is the sign of the zodiac associated with debt, taxes, financing and collections. When a planet is retrograde, we tend to “revisit the affairs” ruled by that planet.

Therefore, with Venus “retrograde,” it was a good time then to review and analyze monetary and budget policy. Often, with a “retrograde review,” we end up “tweaking or revising our strategy.” In this case, the government apparently was running “low on dough” or “cash reserves” and had to find a creative way in the budget to “rob Peter to pay Paul.”

Presently, we also have Venus retrograde again in Scorpio, and Friday night on the news there was a report that there would not be any raise for Social Security recipients, in the coming year. Apparently, it has something to do with the formula for calculating “cost of living adjustments.” (Sounds like double-speak to me!) Somewhat of another parallel to the past, perhaps, in a left-handed way?

Also on Friday, Fed Chairman, Ben Bernanke, stated that inflation levels were too low and that the central bank was considering resuming buying treasury bonds to stimulate the economy, an idea that is not without controversy.

Also, in October of 1986, Neptune, the planet of disintegration and disarray, was at 3 degrees of Capricorn, which is the official sign of bureaucratic government. Neptune has an “escapist” nature so, it was no wonder that government officials, baffled back then, just wanted to “call it quits” for a while. Fascinatingly today, Pluto is also at 3 degrees of Capricorn. Pluto, though, tends not to disappear, unfortunately.  He is a big “control freak” and prefers just to “blow everything up,” and start all over again from scratch.

Too, when the government shut down in 1986, Warrior Mars, in Unconventional Aquarius, was in a tight square (frictional aspect) to Pluto in Scorpio.  Pluto is the co-ruler of Scorpio with Mars, and Pluto also signifies “debt.” “Mars-Pluto” aspects are classic “war aspects,” when “you know what” usually hits the fan!

Additionally, your humble astrologer even has transiting Mars in my eighth house of spooky financial stuff applying to an exact square to Pluto in entertaining Leo now, and here I am writing about debt for fun (what a fun life!).

Another parallel to the past today: Mars is at 20-21 degrees of Scorpio, the very same place that Venus was at when the government shut down in 1986!  Scorpio also rules haunted houses and ghosts of the past. And we do have Halloween coming up in a couple weeks. This whole thing is seeming pretty scary to me.  What do you think? 🙂

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Moon leaves All-Business Capricorn for Friendly, Progressive-Minded Aquarius (10:24 am EDT).  We may want to relax our formality a little, be a bit more impromptu. Aquarius welcomes “deviations from the norm.”

Also, it behooves us to be willing to take time out of our busy schedules today to extend a helpful hand to our fellow colleagues and comrades. With the Aquarius Moon, the emphasis is “less about us” and “more about others.” We may also want to keep in mind now that being willing to stand up for the causes we believe in, is how we can best affect the kind of change that we are wanting to see around us.

Quote for the day:

“A friend knows the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails.” Donna Roberts

On This Date In History:

October 15, 1969 – The “Vietnam Moratorium” is held.  Millions of people protest the war. In the heavens, Warrior Mars in Capricorn, the sign of government, is exactly square to Philosophical Jupiter in Libra, the sign of peace and diplomacy.

“Mars-Jupiter” is an aspect with a great history of “firing up our passions and idealism.” Mars energizes whatever it touches and Jupiter represents our moral beliefs.  We are willing to “do combat” (Mars) for “what we believe in” now (Jupiter), similar to the energy of today’s Aquarius Moon which speaks to us about getting involved in causes “greater than ourselves.” With the Vietnam Moratorium, the protesters peacefully dissented (diplomatic Libra) against the “war policies”of the government (Mars in Capricorn).

Often Mars-Jupiter is associated with “religious fanaticism,” too, as Jupiter rules religion, and the nature of  Jupiter is such (especially when it is aligned with energizer Mars) that we can easily “go overboard” and get “carried away” with whatever we are involved with. Even though Jupiter is an “expansive influence,” and more of a “benevolent planet,” sometimes the pitfall with it is we do not know when to “rein ourselves in.” For example, Jupiter is also associated with obesity and excess. We can’t stop with just “one jelly doughnut,” we have to consume a whole dozen! So, moderation is often needed and called for with Jupiter, if we are going to utilize the energies of this great planet to the best capacity.

Patricia’s Astrology: I Love Lucy Debuts With Venus Conjunct Mars

On October 15, 1951, I Love Lucy, starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, William Frawley, and Vivian Vance, debuted on CBS-TV. I Love Lucy, an American comedy sitcom that centered around the lives of two married couples, aired for six seasons.  For most of its run, it was the most popular TV show in America, and it is still in syndication around the world.

When the show premiered, the Energizing Sun, Communicator Mercury and Fantasy Neptune were all conjunct in Marital Libra and also sextile to transforming Pluto in Leo, the sign of entertainment. A fourth planet, Stabilizer Saturn, was also in Libra, and exactly opposite Expansive Jupiter in Pioneering Aries.

With such a prevalence of planets in Libra, the timing was natural to launch a fictional TV show (Neptune) about married couples. The sextile aspect to Pluto also helped to give the show unique, mass appeal (which Pluto rules) and also made it something that could deeply impact the viewers, perhaps holding a mirror to their own marriages (Pluto’s ray tends to spawn deep insight). Pluto is also associated with “historic firsts” and the show helped to establish many precedents in television entertainment.

Also, for the I Love Lucy launch, the Love Duo of Venus and Mars, were tightly conjunct in Virgo, a sign with a penchant to please. (Even though Lucy was always “rocking the boat” at home, with her humorous, often oddball antics, she was also very anxious, in the end, to placate hubby Ricky.  The same was true for Ethel wanting to please Fred. I always dearly loved Ethel, didn’t you?  She seemed like a perfect “best friend” to have. The kind of friend who would never let you down. Ethel had simple charm, and was deeply sympathetic. Nothing inauthentic about her. Fred was also a nice, low-key guy. They may a good pair. Both were perfect complements to the much more animated Ricky and Lucy.)

When Venus, ruling our power of attraction, is conjoined Mars, it not only tends to make us more attractive to the opposite sex, it also puts the topic of romance front and center on the table. I Love Lucy took it all one step further and brought the topic directly into our living rooms. It was a “big thing” during that time era.

Additionally, the Mercury conjunction to Imaginative Neptune, with Mental Mercury ruling writing, is also an extremely creative aspect for generating mesmerizing, “make believe” story lines.  This is a classic “storyteller aspect.” Neptune also rules acting and all the characters in the show did a superb job in that department as well. The I Love Lucy episode below, when Lucy and Ethel both got jobs at a chocolate factory, is one of my all-time favorites. It’s still funny, no matter how many times you see it.

On This Date in History:

On October 14, 1964, Philips began experimenting with color TV. In the heavens, the transiting Moon was passing through Scientific Aquarius, the sign which rules television broadcasting. Activator Mars, in Entertainment Leo, was also exactly square to Photogenic Neptune in Transforming Scorpio.  Neptune rules photography and images, and the whole realm of “illusion” and “make believe.” The square is a powerful astrological influence that “forces action.”

“Mars-Neptune” is traditionally heralded in astrology as one of the most creative aspects of all. This is because Neptune rules dreams and the imagination, and Mars acts as a catalyst to fire up whatever it is aligned with.  The nature of Mars is also pioneering, so with the help of the Experimental and Technologically-Savvy Aquarius Moon, there was this attempt to develop something new in the way of Leo entertainment: “color TV images” (Neptune). Neptune is also often referred to as the planetary ray that makes us see things through “rose-colored glasses.” Another tie in here with color and vision.

On This Day In History:

On October 13, 1988, the “Shroud of Turin,” a linen cloth depicting the image of a man who looks to have sustained injuries, consistent with a crucifixion, that some also believe is the image of Jesus Christ at the time of his burial, is shown by carbon-testing to “be a fake” from the Middle Ages. However, to this day, the matter is still mired in much controversy. Some critics contend that the samples used for the testing were not typical of the entire shroud.

Fascinatingly, on this date, Communicator and News Reporter Mercury was retrograde in Libra and, as many of us know, information received under a retrograde Mercury can be revised or subject to change later.

Also, much more central to the matter here, is Traditionalist Saturn’s exact conjunction with Discovery Uranus at 27 degrees of Sagittarius.  Sagittarius is a sign associated with formal doctrine and religion.  Uranus rules modern science and testing (the carbon-testing), and Saturn represents the established form and structure in our lives, which in this case, would symbolize the common perception about the Shroud of Turin.

With Saturn-Uranus, which is a very powerful aspect, there can be a “sudden attack or jolt” (Uranus) to the foundational fabric of our lives (Saturn).  Uranus perennially acts like a “bolt of lightning” out of the blue. Since the sign of Sagittarius is also involved here, this new emergence was felt in the area of conventional religion.

Additionally, the transiting North Node of the Moon was at 11 degrees of Pisces, the sign of mysticism and spiritually, and exactly trine to transformer Pluto at 11 degrees of Scorpio, the sign that deals with the mysteries of life, death, and rebirth (or resurrection).

Pluto acts in such a way to shine a flashlight into a cave. We glean a new consciousness or awareness of what was previously hidden or obscured from view. Pluto also rules death and the Shroud of Turin depicts images of someone who likely died from being crucified.  The North Node of the Moon is often thought to play a part in our karmic and spiritual evolution. With the North Node-Pluto influence we were seeing the Shroud in a “new light.”

Also, the transiting South Node of the Moon at 11 degrees of Analytical Virgo was exactly conjunct Venus, with Venus ruling objects that we love and value. Venus could also be representative of the Shroud or cloth itself, a material item of the past (South Node rules the past), being put “under the Virgo microscope” for further study and digestion.

The Catholic Church is the owner of the Shroud of Turin. The cloth is currently stored in the Cappella della Santa Sindone (the chapel of the Holy Shroud) in the Duomo di San Giovanni. It is only displayed every 25 years, due to the fragile nature of the cloth. It will not be displayed again until 2025, although there is a replica of it available for viewing.

COSMIC WEATHER:

With the Preacher Moon in Sagittarius we’re wanting to evangelize or proselytize others to our way of thinking. But we could experience some awkward fallout here with this as a consequence, with the Moon’s square to Inflated Jupiter (4:16 pm EDT), especially if we convey an air of too much self-righteousness from behind the pulpit.

Later, our emotional mood may turn more rebellious with both the Moon’s square to Freedom-Loving Uranus (8:08 pm EDT) and Love Maven Venus’ 135-degree aspect to this same planet (10:10 pm EDT).

With Venus-Uranus, we’re more inclined to “walk on the wild side.” Our tastes and desires often become more “non-traditional.”

On the shadow side, Uranus is perennially the “problem-child” that goads us on to impulsively “break the rules,” often without serious regard for the consequences. No coincidence, I guess, that Venus-Uranus is a “classic divorce aspect,” as relationships usually require certain set protocol to succeed over time. Venus-Uranus is often unwilling to make that kind of day-in, day-out commitment because it doesn’t like to feel hemmed in.

On this day in history:

On October 12, 1901, President Theodore Roosevelt renames “Executive Mansion,” “The White House.” On that day, there was a New Moon at 18 degrees of Decorative Libra, a sign known for proper social protocol and decorum. (New Moons signal new beginnings.) Both the Sun and Moon were also harmoniously trine Transformer Pluto at 18 degrees of Gemini. Pluto’s ray is often associated with “historic firsts” and “sweeping changes.”  Gemini also governs speech, communication and descriptive words and phrases. So, it’s kind of cool how this name change came about with Pluto’s “recasting energy” so prominent here, on top of Fashionable Libra’s intrinsic desire and need to want to “dress things up.”

Quote For The Day:

“One filled with joy preaches without preaching.” Mother Teresa

Today’s Affirmation:

“May my deeds seed a glorious garden of hope for others. And my words abolish the weeds of despair.”

COSMIC WEATHER:

The Domestic Moon is in Travelin’ Sagittarius. We can’t wait to get on the road again with our dreams. No matter if they’re full-color or black and white. The mere chance to roam, is manna enough for us now.

Quote for the Day:

“The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” St. Augustine

Today’s Affirmation:

I journey down life’s highways with an abiding hope and optimism. Knowing that the roads are purposefully leading me to my soul’s rightful destination.
