Lovable Venus stations retrograde at 24 degrees of Gemini (10:33 am EDT). It will remain retrograde until June 27. During Venus’s apparent backward dance in the sky we have a chance to carefully reflect upon and critique all the areas that Venus governs: our romantic life; the way we socialize or interact with others; the values we espouse and hold dear to our heart; the aspects of our life that provide us with pleasure or beauty. Venus also presides over our attitudes towards money and possessions.

Traditionally, the retrograde phase of a planet is a time when it is normally advised to postpone any important decision-making regarding the affairs ruled by that planet, as the theory is that the final verdict or takeaway on a matter will not be known until the planet resumes direct motion again.

Venus goes retrograde every 18 months. The last time that it went retrograde in Gemini was on May 17, 2004. Fascinatingly, back then on that very date, is when the state of Massachusetts issued the first, fully legal, same-sex marriage licenses in the United States (Venus rules marriage). Now once again, just days prior to Venus going retrograde in this same sign, the sign of the twins, more history has been made on this same issue with President Obama openly coming out in support of same-sex marriage, the first U.S. president to do so. Rather interesting, isn’t it, to see the progression on this matter?

Wonder, too, if Gemini, given its versatility, curiosity, and dual nature, might have more of a proclivity for same-sex unions? Or at least a higher toleration or acceptance of such relationships? What do you think? Also, might Venus retrograde itself indicate more of a tendency to embrace non-traditional relationships, as when a planet goes retrograde there can be a turning away or distancing from what is deemed to be more customary behavior?

COSMIC WATCH:

The empowering Sun in Taurus is having its annual conjunction with generous Jupiter (9:23 am EDT), a planet that is often billed as the Cosmic Santa. Ideally, this configuration will foster in us a greater sense of optimism and well-being. This is a fabulous day to dream big and envision the world as our oyster.

Communicator Mercury is also trining energizer Mars (4:54 pm EDT) allowing us to express ourselves persuasively with words. This is a wonderful aspect for lively conversation and also for strategic thinking, especially with Mars in analytical Virgo.

The Moon’s immersion into compassionate Pisces also makes it timely to display forgiveness and mercy. Extending the olive branch may be the right thing to do now – especially since Sun-Jupiter can also help us to see the best in others. “Forgiveness is like faith. Thinker Mercury’s sextile to “fantasy” Neptune (5:59 pm EDT) adds a dreamy quality to our evening.  It’s also positive for projects that engage our imagination. This aspect can additionally stimulate our psychic ability, as well as provoke interest in more mystical or spiritual matters. Sometimes, too, with this influence we experience very vivid night dreams, some of which may even be prophetic (I recently had such a dream with the Sun opposite my Neptune). In the News: President Obama publicly came out in favor of same-sex marriage on Wednesday, reversing his earlier position. He is the first U.S. president to go on record supporting gay marriage.  Interestingly, in his horoscope now he has Mars, the planet of action, exactly conjunct his natal Pluto, which symbolizes rebirth and transformation. This conjunction is also occurring in his seventh house, the sector of the horoscope that governs marriage.

Mars-Pluto is a very potent influence that can elevate a person’s level of intensity and also make them very determined to achieve their ends. Metaphorically, it can depict someone “going to battle” for what they believe in. It can also coincide with a person making a sweeping change or overhaul in their life. Sometimes this revamping is necessary because there is additional clarity now about a matter. What perhaps served the person before is likely no longer working, so the person may feel that they have almost no choice but to alter their course.

The Moon in regal Leo the Lion encourages us to “play it big” today. This might translate into our wanting to take bold strides in the direction of our dreams. The Sun’s empowering trine to transformational Pluto also puts the possibility of metamorphosis on our path. It additionally helps us to go in-depth with matters and it is also associated with creating more transparency.

How might it be in your best interests to be more open or transparent? Also, what might you want to remake or overhaul now?

BTW, when we had this same Sun-Pluto trine last year, President Obama released the “long-form” of his birth certificate, which certified his birth in the state of Hawaii. This was in response to ongoing accusations from some Republicans, including Donald Trump, that he was not born in the United States.

With the Moon still nestled in “inquisitive” Gemini, gathering and disseminating information is a breeze for us now.  Although, with intellectual Mercury squaring “probing” Pluto (10:51 am EDT), the ruler of our subconscious, we are also more reluctant to simply take things at face value. All in all, it is probably a great day to play detective, or to dig beneath the surface.

With the empowering Sun trine to courageous Mars (8:59 pm), the planet of action and adventure, we are potentially more inclined to test our personal limits today. Or raise the bar on our performance.

Sun-Mars aspects are also historically linked with new beginnings and discoveries. For example, Ted Turner launched CNN on a day when the Sun in communication Gemini was exactly square to Mars in skillful, perfecting Virgo.

Too, Sun-Mars is an excellent catalyst for getting us unstuck, as Mars fires up our motivation or drive to succeed. When it is aligned with the Sun – which symbolizes our ego and deep sense of self – we may possess greater self-confidence, enthusiasm, and willpower. Mars also governs our physical energy.

The Moon’s entrance into curious Gemini (1:05 pm) also ideally supplies us with a plethora of fresh ideas or perspectives today.

COSMIC WATCH:

The “illuminating” Sun opposes “taskmaster” Saturn. Normally with this influence we tend to adopt more of a serious mindset and focus on our perceived duties and responsibilities (or whatever our “socialized self” thinks it should be doing), which Saturn represents. If we do opt to go this route, and focus on what we view to be our obligations (or karma), instead of maybe indulging in more pleasurable pursuits, we may end up being quite productive and successful today, as Sun-Saturn can inspire us to be more disciplined and steadfast to see things through to the end.

This may also be a very good day to simply reflect upon the structures (relationships, daily practices, activities) that we have built up in our world and determine how they are either supporting or hindering us. If they do seem to be thwarting our progress now, or interfering perhaps with our desired vision of work/life balance for our lives, we may want to consider what steps we could take now to make our lives better and more fulfilling in the future.

Interestingly, last year when we had this same Sun-Saturn influence, President Obama’s presidential campaign announced that day that he was going to run for a second term in office. Too, Sun-Saturn often correlates with events, developments or perspectives that seem to be more “karmic” nature, or that seem to really resonate with our life purpose in some way.

On another level, sometimes with Sun-Saturn we may feel “cut off from others,” or simply wish to be left alone, as Saturn governs boundaries and our sense of separateness. Too, either scenario does not necessarily mean that we cannot have warm, intimate encounters now, if we so choose to do so, and are also willing to put ourselves out there on the line to make this possible. Too, it may even mean with Sun-Saturn that we come to a deeper understanding today of how valuable it can be for us to have set boundaries in our relationships as an extension of self-care.

Also, often with Sun-Saturn we are simply too critical of ourselves, too tuned into our perceived warts or blemishes and blind to our special strengths or assets. Additionally with Sun-Saturn we sometimes seek out older or more mature types to be around, with Saturn ruling father figures.  “I love to be alone.
