Astrology August 22, 2011: Leo Sun Opposes Dissolving Neptune

COSMIC WATCH:

“Derive happiness in oneself from a good day’s work, from illuminating the fog that surrounds us.” Henri Matisse

The empowering Sun, at the tail end of Leo the Lion, is forming its annual opposition to “foggy” Neptune in “change-oriented” Aquarius.  While Sun-Neptune can spark our creative juices, since Neptune governs our imagination, it can also, on the shadow side, blur or obscure matters, making it more difficult for us to see clearly the true nature of things. Accordingly, we are wise to commandeer our earthly beings more cautiously now and also make sure we take time to perform our sacred due diligence in matters that are important to us, particularly with respect to any new beginnings.

Too, we have the Leo Sun making a semi-square to restrictive Saturn, in partnership Libra, perhaps opening the door for us to further buildup our glorious supply of patience, especially when we are dealing with other people.  With Sun-Saturn we are often faced with limitations (and endings) and have to use our noodle to figure out how to maneuver or rise above them. Fortunately for us today, the Moon is in intellectual Gemini where she adores mental gymnastics. She also helps us out in the flexibility department in this sign.

“Ingenuity, plus courage, plus work, equals miracles.” Bob Richards

In the News:  On the eve of the proud Leo Sun’s opposition to nebulous Neptune, in group-oriented, defiant Aquarius, rebels opposed to Colonel Gadhafi’s regime stormed into Tripoli on Sunday. The military unit that was supposed to guard Gadhafi and the capital city reportedly surrendered to rebel forces, an indication that Gadhafi’s regime is “crumbling,” according to news sources.

Historically, and symbolically, the planet Neptune is linked with surrender. Neptune is also known as the “Great Dissolver,” often making our ties to matters more tenuous (“crumbling” of Gadhafi regime). The Sun also symbolizes world leaders.

Too, the Sun’s placement at the very last degree of authoritative Leo suggests more of an urgency, or precarious state, for those in power now. Also, the Libyan rebels  would be symbolically denoted by Neptune in Aquarius, with Neptune in Aquarius signaling change and a new order of things. Neptune also helps to to add a “surrealistic” tone to matters. Gadhafi has reportedly been in power for more than 40 years in Libya and now we all sense it is coming to an end. The more “denying” Sun-Saturn aspect now, too, could signify an “end to a reign of power” for a head of state.

We also have Saturn and Neptune forming a more challenging 135-degree aspect in the sky now, which will be exact in a couple days. This backdrop influence (which lasts for several days) can indicate a major erosion or undermining (Neptune) of existing structure (Saturn). Of course, we additionally have recalcitrant Uranus square controlling Pluto in governmental Capricorn, which also helps to topple despotic (Pluto) regimes.

On another level, in wake of the Saturn-Neptune aspect, we may want to pay closer attention to issues concerning oil, and also maybe the sea, this week, as Neptune governs both of these things. Too, Libya is home to a key portion of the world’s sweet crude oil supply.

Enjoy your Monday!

Astrology August 18, 2011: Mars Sextiles Jupiter!

COSMIC WATCH:

“Shoot for the moon.  Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” –  Les Brown

The enterprising Aries Moon gets favorable assist today from its energetic ruler Mars, situated in security-oriented Cancer, and also expansive Jupiter, busy ringing up the cash register in money bags Taurus. Both of these heavenly bodies are harmoniously sextile to each other helping to fire up our enthusiasm and propel us at warp speed toward our goals. We are more optimistic about our future, but still have a goodly amount of practical bearings about us. A positive day to wage heroic efforts to stabilize and or upgrade our humble lot in life.

Looking back, too, we find that the last time that we had Mars in Cancer sextile Jupiter in Taurus was in September of 1964. This motivating and inspiring influence was exact on September 10th, that year, the very same day that the African Development Bank was founded. This financial institution was created for the purpose of fostering economic and social development in Africa. The bank reportedly has a public-mandate to reduce poverty through sustainable development. Fascinatingly, Jupiter governs the banking industry. It also tries to act as a goodwill ambassador, whenever it can.

Additionally, Jupiter rules foreigners and on September 10, 1964, Germany reportedly received its 1,000,000th foreign worker. How about that! Another cool astrological tie-in.

Enjoy your Thursday! Go get ’em!

Astrology August 17, 2011: Aries Moon Inspires Action

Tags

COSMIC WATCH:

The “action-packed” Aries Moon primes us for risk-taking and adventure. But before charging out of the gate, we need to be clear about what it is that we are chasing and why, so we don’t scatter our energies. Especially since the impetuous Aries Moon is square to Mars, its ruler (3:12 pm EDT), a more restless influence that can have us dissipating our efforts, if we’re not careful.

“The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear.Brian Tracy

Famous Birthdays August 17th:  Actress Mae West, famous for her original, witty, and often sexy quips, was born on this day in 1892. West, an entertaining Leo Sun, had her pioneering Mars, the planet of sex and passion, conjunct her 10th house of career, at the very top of her chart. Her Mars was also in quirky, futuristic Aquarius. Perhaps one reason why she was not afraid to “break the rules” or defy traditional protocol at the time, especially with respect to openly discussing matters of a sexual nature. West did much to pave the way for more open expression here. Her feelings-oriented Cancer Moon was also exactly trine to uninhibited Uranus in Scorpio, the zodiacal sign of sex that is co-ruled by Mars. Uranus, of course, is the ruler of “liberating” Aquarius.

“Is that a gun in your pocket or are you glad to see me?” Mae West. 🙂

On a personal note: Just wanted to say that my schedule is very hectic now (transiting Uranus conjunct my Aries Ascendant). While I still hope to keep up this blog with some frequency, I will not be able to be with you on a regular, daily basis like I have been in the past, at least for the foreseeable future. I apologize.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Astrology August 10, 2011: Moon in “Responsible” Capricorn

COSMIC WATCH:

“It’s easy to dodge our responsibilities, but we cannot dodge the consequences of dodging our responsibilities.” Josiah Charles Stamp

The Moon stays in “responsible” Capricorn all day, the sign of career, reputation and status, encouraging us to focus on business and practical concerns. The Moon’s trine to expansive Jupiter in money-ruling Taurus (10:17 am EDT) may also present us with a chance to put more green in our pockets with Jupiter being the planet of goodwill and opportunity. It is an excellent time for growing our network or for making cold-calls or prospecting.

Later in the day, with the Moon’s square to restrictive Saturn in relationship Libra (4:34 pm EDT) “flying solo” likely offers us the most dividends. That strategy may also help to preserve the peace.

“I restore myself when I’m alone.” Marilyn Monroe

Famous People with Moon in Capricorn: Lucille Ball. “Lucy” would have turned 100 on August 6th, last week. The cosmic energy of today is actually somewhat similar to what Lucy had in her horoscope, as she was a creative Leo Sun, with the personally ambitious Capricorn Moon, and her Moon was sextile to Jupiter in Scorpio, the sign of shared resources. The Moon also rules the public, with favorable Moon-Jupiter aspects helping to frame positive relationships with others. Of course, we all “loved Lucy.”

Jupiter, which also rules our sense of humor, was at the very top of her chart in her career house. Too, Lucy was not only a grand comedian she was also a very astute business person. She  had her “maternal” Moon conjunct a Capricorn Ascendant, helping her to perhaps materially prosper from her television role as a beloved wife and mother. The Ascendant is the window from which we view the world. It is also how other people see us.

“I’d rather regret the things I have done than regret the things I haven’t done.” Lucille Ball

Remember the “I Love Lucy” episode when Ethel and Lucy went to work in that chocolate factory and both were standing behind that conveyor belt trying to box the chocolates? Definitely my favorite episode.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Astrology August 9, 2011: Mars Squares Rebellious Uranus

Tags

, , , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WATCH:

“Every act of rebellion expresses a nostalgia for innocence and an appeal to the essence of being.” Albert Camus

It may be trickier to calmly “go with the flow” today, as “aggressor” Mars in “security-oriented” Cancer squares off with “rebel flag” Uranus, the planet of change and personal freedom, in “self-willed” Aries (12:33 pm EDT). This more volatile aspect is part of the “Grand Cardinal Cross” that Mars is now activating with Uranus, Pluto and Saturn. On Thursday, we will have Mars opposite Pluto and then Mars square Saturn, later next week.

Mars-Uranus has some legacy, both individually and collectively, for “rattling our cages” and putting us at odds with current rules or restrictions, which may be viewed as outmoded or no longer relevant for our lives and or survival. At the same time, Mars-Uranus is a classic template for wanting to be a “law unto ourselves.”

Of course, as most of us know, when we act in a self-willed manner that is too defiant, or in a way that does not kindly consider the needs of others into the equation, there is usually a hefty price to pay later. Too, even if we’re willing to abide by the existing rules and protocol now, we are more likely to encounter “anarchists” or “non-conforming types” in our environment, who tend to make life more complicated for us, in various ways, often by dismantling the seemingly secure guideposts around us.

Also, it is possible that these “rebels” can end up ultimately leading us to a better way of life. Uranus is linked with genius and breakthrough visions, with Mars here firing up that lofty potential. Madonna and Steve Jobs, for instance, were both born with Mars square Uranus in their charts and both have done a lot to innovate and reform their respective industries in a positive way and impact the world at large. Uranus also rules technology and computers.

Mars-Uranus is additionally known for throwing us some “curve balls,” introducing us to circumstances or situations we may not have anticipated, or perhaps simply refused to acknowledge earlier, elements that now call for sudden or swift adaptations on our part. Of course, if we gaze around the world today, it does seem much more uncertain and unsettled than it did, only a few days ago, with the volatility of world markets, riots in London, etc. Perhaps much of the discord symptomatic of a system that is indeed broken in many ways. The Cardinal Grand Cross forcing us to re-examine, once again, the present nature of things and then spurring us on to make changes to hopefully rectify things.

On that note, we do want to guard against making any risky or impulsive moves today that could jeopardize our security further, or the security of those around us. We really need to give some time for all the dust to settle around us. Right now, Mars-ruled tempers and fuses are likely to be shorter, making it harder for reason to prevail. Too, intellectual Mercury is retrograde and still aligned with vague, psychedelic Neptune, which can cloud or muddy our perceptions and undermine or erode our self-confidence. A lot of complex aspects at play here, simultaneously.

We also would be well-advised to slow down and be more alert to our surroundings and use more caution when we are working around heavy equipment or driving today. Mars-Uranus tends to distract our attention, when we really need to be focusing on the tasks at hand.

Astrology August 7, 2011: Romantic Venus Sextiles Saturn

COSMIC WATCH:

The “probing” Scorpio Moon meets up with “psychedelic”  Neptune this morning (11:14 am EDT), right before leaving Scorpio for Sagittarius. So there’s a chance that we may have to navigate through some fog and confusion, the first part of the day, as Neptune tends to put a “tie-dyed veil” over things.

With the Moon’s shift into impetuous Sadge (11:21 am EDT) we are imbued with a more adventurous streak over the next couple of days. The Moon’s square to retrograde Mercury in Virgo (11:54 am EDT), however, cautions us to refrain from being overly critical or arrogant in discussions.  Probably a wise time to remember that other people are also entitled to their own opinions, even though they may go against what we regard as “the truth.” The Sagittarius Moon is known for making us a little preachy. Too, it is a Sunday. A time when the sermon on the mount may be harder for us to resist. 🙂

We do have a good opportunity to stabilize our relationships today, especially later in the day, when love maven Venus sextiles steady Saturn (10:20 pm EDT), an influence that tends to inspire trust and loyalty with others. This is also a signature aspect of the formation of “May-December” romances, with Saturn denoting older persons.  Also, Venus-Saturn can bring back “old flames” into our lives.

“Come live in my heart and pay no rent.” Samuel Lover

Famous Birthdays August 7th: Comedic genius and fab storyteller, Garrison Keillor, turns 69 today! Fascinatingly, Keillor has communicator Mercury, in entertaining Leo, exactly conjunct his Leo Ascendant, giving him a great “gift for gab.” The Ascendant is the window through which we view the world and with Mercury right there for Keillor, in colorful Leo, he has a natural talent for both dramatization and intellectual analysis.

His Moon is also in witty Gemini, sextile to his Mercury, reinforcing his ability to articulate his feelings in a theatrical (Leo) way. His Venus and Jupiter are additionally conjunct in Cancer, the sign of home and family, making him very sentimental about his “Lake Wobegon” roots. Venus conjunct Jupiter is also a classic aspect of “luck” and Keillor has managed to use his “home base of operations” (Prairie Home Companion) to his advantage in his career.

“Lake Wobegon, the little town that time forgot and the decades cannot improve.” Garrison Keillor

Happy Birthday, Garrison!

Astrology August 5, 2011: Scorpio Moon, Sun Sextiles Saturn

COSMIC WATCH:

“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” – Oprah Winfrey

The Moon shifts into “passionate” Scorpio (7:57 am) deepening our desires and intensifying our reactions to our environment.  Very little gets by us when the Moon is deposited in Scorpio which tends to put our sensory perceptions on high alert. Scorpio is the sign of espionage and intrigue. It also rules shared resources, psychic ability, and the subconscious.

The Scorpio Moon’s sextile to logical Mercury in analytical Virgo (9:33 am) should also be a boon for our problem-solving skills, while its sextile to assertive Mars in protective Cancer (10:27 am) poises us to take swift action on matters.  We can get a lot accomplished this morning, if we stay focused. Later on, in the day, too, the Moon aligns positively with transforming Pluto (4:55 am), the ruler of Scorpio, which is an excellent time to repair or fix things, or take corrective measures regarding situations.

Hopefully, another solidifying factor for us today will be the Leo Sun’s opportunity sextile to stabilizing Saturn, in relationship Libra, with Saturn denoting anchoring structures in our lives. When we have flowing energy between the Sun and Saturn, we tend to attract to us elements that can fortify our circumstances. We are also more determined to see things through which bodes well for our success.

Saturn is linked with self-discipline and our work ethic. Karmically, this planetary aspect can indicate being rewarded for our past efforts. Saturn and the Sun both represent authority figures, with Saturn specifically denoting more senior persons.

One more thing.  We may be wise to practice some moderation today, especially in our diet or spending, as we have Venus in Leo square to Jupiter in Taurus, a classic template for overindulgence!

“The proximity of a desirable thing tempts one to overindulgence. On that path lies danger.” Frank Herbert

Astrology August 4, 2011: Moon in Libra

Tags

, , , , , , , , ,

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon remains in “beauty-loving” Libra all day. With mental Mercury in organizing Virgo favorable to energetic Mars in domestic Cancer, today may be picture perfect for beautifying the home front. Or the workplace which is Virgo-ruled. Mercury is also opposing imaginative Neptune elevating our creativity. Redecorating, re-arranging furniture to where it will look best, or removing unwanted objects from our environment helps to empower us now. Also, we may want to put fresh flowers out which, according to feng shui, can help to inspire balance and calmness within.

Tonight, dreamy Neptune leaves Pisces and retrogrades back into group-oriented Aquarius, where it will stay until February 3, 2012. This sign shift puts “otherworldly” Neptune into the spotlight now, adding perhaps a surrealistic tone to things. Neptune is known as the “Great Dissolver.”

“Decorating is not about making stage sets, it’s not about making pretty pictures for the magazines; it’s really about creating a quality of life, a beauty that nourishes the soul.” Albert Hadley

Famous People with Moon in Libra: Emily Dickinson, Emily Post, Leonardo Di Caprio, D. H. Lawrence, Bruce Springsteen

Famous Birthdays August 4th: President Obama turns 50 today! A Leo Sun, Obama also has his natal Moon in chatty Gemini and his Rising Sign in detached Aquarius. His Mercury, ruling speech and communication, is in theatrical Leo and opposite “big picture” Jupiter in humanistic Aquarius, making him an eloquent and charismatic speaker. Mercury-Jupiter individuals often are teachers and philosophers. They usually feel compelled to share their “higher vision” with others.

Happy Birthday, Mr. President!
