“Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.” Rumi

Have you ever gone to that proverbial drawing board with the best of intentions to be creative or imaginative, and absolutely zilch happened? It’s like you suddenly morph into a zombie or something and you end up just sitting there, twiddling your thumbs. If you can even muster that much! What’s even worse is when you look all around you, and you see all these cool things created by other people! and you’re thinking to yourself, “Why in the world did I have to get stuck with such a lousy, god-awful imagination? Is it possible payback or retribution, perhaps, for an ancient karmic misdeed, or something? 🙂

Isn’t it also humbling and mind-boggling, too, when you step outside into nature and you see all this brilliantly choreographed magnificence and beauty everywhere? Or, you look into the heavens through a telescope, and it’s as if the complicated universe never stops unfolding! There is just so much amazing mystery and wonderment surrounding us, all the time, and yet many of us never really even think much about it because we are often so preoccupied with all the daily, mundane, personal stuff. Yet, we also have it so much better, in many ways, with respect to countless others who lived before us, in other time periods, who often had to struggle to just make it to age 30 or 40.

“The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” Sylvia Plath

And yet, regardless of everything, hope springs eternal for another glorious chance to possibly shine or dazzle, or to come into our own, in our optimal roles as co-creators with the universe! Or, so it seems, at least for today anyway, with sweet, artistic Venus, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, forming a lovely sextile aspect with compassionate Neptune, the official Kingpin of Imagination (3:45 am).  The Venus-Neptune hookup today also activating the ongoing, more long-term Saturn-Neptune sextile that has been in operation since the end of January and will continue in effect, on and off, for most of this year. This aspect between these two planetary heavyweights, Saturn and Neptune, is, theoretically, ideal for helping us turn our dreams, creativity, and visions (Neptune) into reality or tangible form (Saturn).

“We spend much of the first half of our lives trying to build internal models that fit the world and much of the last half of our lives trying to adjust the world so it fits the inner models.” – Bruce Wexler

The empowering Sun in individualistic Aquarius quinqunx to the futuristic North Node in self-protective Cancer suggests that there is possibly some kind of disconnect taking place now, internally, between the outward path by which we have chosen to define ourselves versus how we are actually feeling inside about that role. Could it be that we have gotten too much into our head (detached Sun in Aquarius) and now we need to get more into the realm of our gut (NN in Cancer) to balance things out and move on to the next level?

No telling really how the pieces of our personal puzzle may have gotten askew. Perhaps we have become disenchanted with the causes (Aquarius) that we have been espousing and that is weighing us down? Or maybe our friendships or group involvements (Aquarius) need to be tweaked as they are no longer meaningful enough for us anymore? Maybe we are also spending too much time on social media or the internet (Aquarius)? Living in a virtual La La Land and we need to simply refocus our attention now on more of the grounding basics (Cancer). Such as tending to what is going on within our homes and with our families, including thinking about such practical things as the type of food that we are putting into our bodies, and where it is coming from. Or taking notice of such stuff as what really moves us, emotionally, as we go about our day. Mars entrance into placid Taurus yesterday, a location it will stay in for the next six weeks, will likely be a big boon to us here, in the coming days, in that it should help to restore our natural sense of equilibrium as we thoroughly evaluate now what it is that we really want to put our energy into, or conclude what it is that we really value, and omit from our journey what it is that is no longer needed for our own, very special rose parade.

“Be kinder to yourself. And then let your kindness flood the world.” Pema Chodron

Enjoy your weekend!

“It’s the steady, quiet, plodding ones who win in the lifelong race.” Robert W. Service

Mars exits new beginnings Aries today and sets up shop in stable, persistent Taurus the Bull (5:51 am), where it will remain until March 31st.  In Taurus, Mars energy is softened, a bit, as this sign is ruled by sweet, receptive Venus. Whereas Mars in Aries was also all about doing, initiating, and exploring, Mars in Taurus now is centered on beingness, rootedness, and acquisition. Mars learns patience and purposefulness in Taurus and, likewise, we are more apt to want to take our time now in executing matters, and do not want to be rushed. We also want to first understand the tangible value of doing something before we commit to doing it. Mars in Taurus now is an excellent time for putting the finishing touches on the projects that we began while Mars was in Aries, although today, with Mars making a semi-square with vague Neptune, we may potentially have a somewhat harder time getting motivated, or staying on track. Sometimes, too, with Mars-Neptune alignments, our physical energy is somewhat diminished so getting more rest may be something that is very beneficial for us now. Additionally, Mercury in Pisces is forming a semi-square to Pluto in Capricorn today. This can help to mentally focus our thoughts in a particular direction. The waxing Moon is also in curious Gemini, all day, and squaring expansive Jupiter in Sagittarius, so there can be an increased desire for learning or seeking out new information, new horizons.

On that day, pioneering Mars was retrograde at 0 degrees of theatrical Leo! Bela Lugosi (b. 10/20/1882) also had, in his horoscope, transiting Saturn in Capricorn exactly trine to his natal Neptune in Taurus, a powerful planetary configuration for manifesting (Saturn) our dreams (Neptune). Neptune also rules film. By the way, natally, Lugosi’s assertive Mars was also in passionate, mysterious Scorpio, the sign of death and rebirth.

Cosmic Weather:

“You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.” Carl Jung

With motivating Mars and spontaneous Uranus coming to a conjunction, early tomorrow morning (1:19 am), at 29 degrees of trailblazing Aries, we may feel more of an urgent desire to take some kind of finalizing action(s) now, in a bid to change or reshuffle our world, or to attempt to deal with ongoing or fast-developing situations. Embracing new approaches, or fashioning new responses, may especially be what is required of us here.

When planets reach the end of a zodiacal sign, there’s also usually a culmination of activities, or a type of summation occurring, of whatever has transpired while the planet(s) has been progressing through the sign. It’s also possible that the kind of action (Mars) we take now will be something that serves to make us feel freer or more unencumbered (Uranus) as individuals. Or that, perhaps, helps to further showcase our individuality, or unique achievements.

Ideally, on a collective level, actions may also be taken now that are seemingly more liberating or cutting-edge for the collective as a whole, as Uranus is a transpersonal planet that can affect major societal or cultural changes or reforms. Additionally, Mars-Uranus energy can also denote taking measures to preserve our existing freedoms. Mars enters earthy, stabilizing Taurus on Valentine’s Day, and Uranus re-enters Taurus on March 6th. after initially wading into the sign for a few months, last year.

On the shadow side, Mars conjunct Uranus can sometimes trigger greater feelings of restlessness, impulsiveness, and impatience. It can foster unpredictability, in general. Collectively, it’s associated with uprisings, revolts, and or a general state of lawlessness. As a quality or kind of energy, Mars-Uranus is often described as being highly combustible in nature, either in a literal sense, such as a fire or an explosion. Or, symbolically, such as blowing our fuses, temperament-wise. At any rate, it’s probably not a good time to tinker around with electrical wiring for amusement now, unless you know what you are doing. Even then…

Earth is a small town with many neighborhoods in a very big universe.” Ron Garan

On May 12, 1930, Mars and Uranus were also exactly conjunct in pioneering Aries when The Adler Planetarium opened to the public in Chicago, Illinois. The opening of The Adler Planetarium was a very big deal, at the time, because it was the very first planetarium in the Western Hemisphere.  Uranus, as the modern-day ruler of Aquarius, governs such things as astronomy, astrophysics, and space travel. Interestingly, retired astronaut Mark Kelly also announced today that he is running for the U.S. Senate in Arizona, potentially injecting a “hands-on” otherworldly view of things into the public arena.

“Man has gone out to explore other worlds and other civilizations without having explored his own labyrinth of dark passages and secret chambers, and without finding what lies behind doorways that he himself has sealed.” – Stanislaw Lem

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

It’s a very cool, inspiring day in the heavens above! Hopefully, this will also translate into a plethora of inspiration for all of us, down below, on Mother Earth. We have two big planetary aspects especially impacting us now: The Sun in Aquarius is sextile to Jupiter in Sagittarius (7:33 pm), and Mercury in Aquarius is sextile to Mars in Aries (8:25 pm).

The Sun-Jupiter aspect is a fabulous fortifier for our own sense of faith or belief in ourselves. It helps us to have more enthusiasm for what we’re doing. It makes us more excited and confident about our own prospects for a bright future. We’re also more likely to be open to collaborating with others with divergent viewpoints, as we potentially have a better grasp of the bigger picture of how everything can work together now for the common good. Additionally, the Sun in bohemian Aquarius also encourages us to accept or embrace our own individuality, our own sense of self, and to not worry, unduly, about what others think of us.

Mercury sextile Mars, meanwhile, also helps our thoughts and ideas to flow very freely and fast today. Even more importantly, we’re more likely to act (Mars) on our ideas now, as Mars in assertive Aries enjoys putting things into motion, into taking the lead. This is super good energy for any intellectual work that we may have to do, for communicating, writing, problem-solving, brainstorming, coming up with new ideas. Also for drawing up and or signing contracts or agreements. Yours truly is signing some important paperwork today that has been on my radar screen for several weeks. Looking forward to finally putting my John Hancock on the dotted line! 🙂

The Moon is also in soothing Pisces, all day, which should be a nice, supportive backdrop for the other more active energies of the day. The Pisces Moon tends to make us more reflective and sympathetic. We may want to schedule some alone time for ourselves now, to maybe commune with nature. Or to, perhaps, engage in some quiet prayer, meditation, or reading. The Moon in Pisces will sextile transformational Pluto in Capricorn, later this afternoon (5:13 pm), and then go void of course until tomorrow morning, when it enters pioneering Aries (9:34 am).

On This Day in History: On February 7, 1964, The Beatles visit the U.S for the very first time. They were met by 3,000 screaming fans at Kennedy Airport! The Beatles had just scored their first No. 1 U.S. hit six days before with “I Want to Hold Your Hand.” In the sky that day, the Sun and Mars were conjunct in innovative, electrifying Aquarius suggesting something radically new and different was afloat in the collective. The Sun was also just separating from a sextile to propitious Jupiter in trailblazing Aries, the very same planetary aspect that we have today, except Jupiter was in Aries then.

Enjoy your day!

Cosmic Weather:

We have more success if we think of a project as a group effort, find partners and build a coalition. There is always strength in numbers.” Mark Randall

The Moon continues in humanitarian Aquarius, the sign of group involvement, throughout the day. It then enters impressionable Pisces, later tonight (9:02 pm). The Moon is still in the New phase of its monthly cycle, following the New Moon lunation in Aquarius, yesterday afternoon. And, if you haven’t already done so, there’s also still time today to set your New Moon intentions for the month, especially while the Moon is still in the sign of Aquarius. From the New Moon to the Full Moon, of course, is when we should begin seeing our intentions begin to take shape. Especially if we have added some legwork to them! The late great Wayne Dyer (b. 5/10/40) once said, regarding intentions: “You get what you intend to create by being in harmony with the power of intention, which is responsible for all of creation.”

The Moon in Aquarius makes a very nice sextile to energetic Mars in Aries this morning (8:49 am). This is very motivating yang energy that helps to get our day off to an enterprising start. We’re also acting with greater self-confidence and self-assuredness now. The Moon will sextile progressive Uranus in Aries, later this evening (6:59 pm). This is excellent for experimentation, for changing up our routine, or for hanging out with a new crowd. Today’s lunar exchange with both Mars and Uranus is also a test run or preview, perhaps, for the high-voltage Mars-Uranus conjunction in Aries, which is occurring, the middle of next week.

*All times EST.

On This Day in History: On February 5, 1922, The Reader’s Digest, an American general-interest family magazine, is published for the first time. Jupiter, which rules publishing, had just, interestingly enough, stationed retrograde in balancing Libra on February 3rd. And, communicator Mercury, actually turned retrograde in creative Pisces on February 5th! Yet, despite these two retrograde planets, The Reader’s Digest is still around, nearly 100 years later! So that just goes to show that just because a planet is retrograde, it doesn’t necessarily dampen prospects for success. So many of us tend to wig out whenever we see a planet going retrograde, especially the planet Mercury. It’s like we feel we can’t do anything or take action in the outside world until it goes direct again. Not true!

The empowering Sun and relationship Venus were also exactly conjunct in innovative Aquarius then. Sun-Venus configurations are, among other things, good for popularity, especially with women. This influence would have also been good for the creative content of the magazine. Abundant Jupiter was also trining the Sun and Venus conjunction. No doubt, another factor in the publication’s long-term success. Do any of you still read the Reader’s Digest?

Anyway, enjoy your day! Happy Chinese New Year! It’s the Year of the Pig, which, in Chinese culture, is associated with wealth and prosperity! Amen to that! 🙂

Astrology February 4, 2019: New Moon in Non-Conforming Aquarius, Launch of Facebook

Cosmic Weather:

“We all want to break our orbits, float like a satellite gone wild in space, run the risk of disintegration. We all want to take our lives in our own hands and hurl them out among the stars.” David Bottoms

With a New Moon taking place in non-conforming Aquarius this afternoon (4:04pm), we now have, it would seem, the official go-ahead from the cosmos to boldly depart from our ordinary, prosaic, daily orbital routines, and rocket ourselves in a brand new direction! That is, if we choose to do so, of course! Probably, too, since we’re dealing with more bohemian, eccentric, oddball type of Aquarian energy here, the more obscure the destination that we choose to wobble off to in space, the better! 🙂 Too, I’m almost certain that there’s gotta be a provision in our monthly lunar assignment somewhere that allows us to circle home for a few, each night, so we can watch TV, or maybe walk the dog.

Interestingly, Uranus, the modern day ruler of Aquarius, actually has a very funky orbit around the Sun. Unlike the other planets of the solar system, Uranus is tilted so far that it basically orbits the Sun on its side, with the axis of its spin nearly pointing at the star. While it’s uncertain why Uranus has such a weird orientation, some theorize it’s because Uranus may have collided with another planet, or other smaller objects, shortly after it was formed.

*All times EST.

On This Day in History: On February 4, 2004 Mark Zuckerberg (b. 5/14/84)  launches Facebook from his Harvard dormitory room. In the sky that day, pioneering Mars had just shifted into Taurus, and was sextiling technology ruling Uranus in the sign of Pisces. The empowering Sun was also in innovative Aquarius and separating, by one degree, from its annual conjunction with visionary Neptune, the ruler of our imagination. Sun-Neptune is always potentially a time when we can more deftly envision or empower our dreams.

In Zuckerberg’s personal horoscope he also had, among other things, transiting Mars in Taurus exactly opposite his Pluto in Scorpio. Mars-Pluto aspects, in general, can supply us with tremendous determination, willpower, and focus to go after what we want. This is also one of the strongest planetary aspects for transforming the world around us.

Cosmic Weather:

“Relax. Your battle with the world is just a fiction in your head.” – Marty Rubin

Today is a good time for winding things down, in preparation of tomorrow’s New Moon in innovative Aquarius (4:04 pm). New Moons are always synonymous with brand new beginnings, appearing to mirror the death and rebirth phase of the Moon’s monthly cycle. The Moon also shifted from Capricorn into Aquarius this morning (8:03 am), setting the stage for tomorrow’s big event.

Intellectual Mercury is also in Aquarius today and it’s forming a sextile aspect to philosophical Jupiter in Sagittarius (4:55 pm). This is a very nice, mentally stimulating influence that tends to broaden our outlook and make us feel more optimistic. Our judgment may also be better. Conversations with others, in general, can be very inspiring and productive. We can also speak with a greater sense of personal conviction now as we’re, more than likely, channeling our own inner preacher-teacher! Of course, for some of us, if we’re not careful, the Mercury-Jupiter influence can easily morph into our doing copious amounts of bloviating or pontificating! Something, yours truly, happens to know a thing or two about! 🙂 Additionally, the Mercury-Jupiter aspect also favors publishing, writing, travel planning, and business negotiations.

Relationship Venus also exits carefree Sagittarius today for mature-minded Capricorn (5:30 pm), a venue in which the glorious Love Goddess is ready to hunker down and take things to the next level! Also, with Venus in Capricorn now, we’re likely to be much more selective with respect to letting anyone new into our inner circle, especially since we have less of an appetite for frivolity.

“So, I love you because the entire universe conspired to help me find you.” Paulo Coelho

This Day in History: On February 3, 1959, Buddy Holly (b. 9/7/36) was tragically killed in a plane crash, shortly after takeoff, near Clear Lake, Iowa. Holly is often described as the most influential of the early rock and roll musicians in the mid-1950’s. The death of Holly is also now commonly referred to as “the day the music died” after Don McLean immortalized the tragedy with his 1972 hit “American Pie.” (Wikipedia)

(In the sky on that fateful day, the Sun, the giver of life, was in the aviation-ruling sign of Aquarius and forming an exact opposition to unpredictable Uranus in Leo, the sign of entertainment. The planet Uranus symbolizes change and, on the shadow side, can sometimes trigger disruption or chaos in our lives, including accidents, when its energy is activated.)

That’ll Be The Day (Buddy Holly, Jerry Allison)

Well, that’ll be the day, when you say goodbye
Yes, that’ll be the day, when you make me cry
You say you’re gonna leave, you know it’s a lie
‘Cause that’ll be the day when I die…

COSMIC WEATHER:

“Romance is the glamour which turns the dust of everyday life into a golden haze. ” Elinor Glyn

The waning Moon is in utilitarian Capricorn, all day, and it will be re-emphasizing yesterday’s potent square aspect from Mars in Aries to Pluto in Capricorn. The Moon will first conjunct Pluto (at 3:13 pm) and then square Mars (at 4:12 pm). It could be that there’s some kind of follow-up to deal with now from the issues that we faced yesterday. Moon conjunct Pluto also generally poises us to feel things very deeply. Sometimes, too, as a result of what comes up for us emotionally now, we are better able to see things in a clearer light. Moon-Pluto aspects are also excellent for any kind of recycling or decluttering projects on the homefront, especially now with the Moon in its waning Crescent phase. Of course, the Moon rules the home or nest and Pluto rules purging and rebirth. The waning Moon cycle is also when we want to empty ourselves of what no longer is serving us in preparation for the upcoming New Moon, which in this case, will be occurring on Monday. The Moon square Mars influence is always potentially a more volatile time for us as we tend to be more reactive, more defensive. So we may want to monitor ourselves accordingly then, in an effort to avert any missteps. Tell our inner warrior to take a hike for a while! 🙂

Today, we also have a very fun Venus-Uranus influence. Venus in Sagittarius is trining Uranus in Aries (at 6:40 pm), traditionally an aspect that tends to loosen our inhibitions, or make us more daring socially and or romantically. We’re potentially more inspired now to embrace out of the ordinary pleasures and activities. There could also be some liberating breakthroughs in the realm of our feelings. We might also discover new ways of relating to others. Or be suddenly attracted to new people in a way that is rather electrifying for us. Interestingly, John Lennon and Paul McCartney first met each other on a day when Venus and Uranus were both conjunct in the sign of entertainment Leo. Of course, we all know the outcome of that iconic union!

“I’m really glad that most of our songs were about love, peace and understanding.” Paul McCartney

Astrology January 31, 2019: Saturn Sextiles Neptune

“When a clumsy cloud from here (Saturn), meets a fluffy little cloud from there (Neptune), he billows towards her. She scurries away, and he scuds right up to her. She cries a little, and there you have your showers. He comforts her, they spark! That’s the lightning. They kiss……..Thunder.” – Fred Astaire

Realistic Saturn in Capricorn sextiles transcendent Neptune in Pisces today (9:21 a.m.), a dominant influence for 2019 and an aspect that will be repeated again in mid-June and early November, due to the retrograde cycle. Ideally, Saturn and Neptune teaming up together will help us to build (Saturn) upon our dreams (Neptune) in a more realistic or self-sustaining fashion. That, as a result of this odd couple pairing, we will learn to become more self-accepting (Neptune) of our limitations (Saturn) without freaking out, or feeling guilty, unworthy. That we will be more content with working with what we already have, instead of wishing things were otherwise. The phrase “start from where you are” comes to mind here, with this aspect. Also, about learning how to see the magic (Neptune) in our everyday lives (Saturn).

“The world is full of magical things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” W.B. Yeats

Additionally, the Saturn-Neptune influence can potentially help us with curbing or arresting our addictions. It may also be a good time for involvement in a spiritual community or for incorporating practices into our daily life, such as meditation or prayer, that can help to make us feel more divinely centered, as well as more compassionate. We may also feel a greater desire to make our careers, or what we do in the outside world, more reflective of our spirituality, or inner life. It’s also an excellent period to get involved in causes that are meaningful to us and that allows us to give back. Lastly, this energy is very positive for developing our imagination or creativity.
