astrology, compromise, control freak, diplomatic, mercury enters capricorn november 30 2010, Moon in Libra, Moon square pluto

Cosmic Watch:

On this last day of November, the Maternal Moon enters social, diplomatic Libra (7:16 am), the sign of the scales. This is a good time for us to weigh everything very carefully, and to also budge or give a little to preserve the peace.

This yielding approach may especially serve us well when the Moon bumps heads with bossy Pluto in Capricorn (2:22 pm) which may potentially bring out the “control freak” in some of us.  Or, put us in the path of “those who would be king.”

Idea Maven Mercury also ambitiously moves into Saturn-ruled, authoritative Capricorn (7:11 pm) today, where our thinking is more inclined to become practical and goal-oriented. We are wanting now to glean the utility of our ideas. Mercury in Capricorn says: “Show me the money, honey!” 🙂

“There is nothing so practical as good theory.” Kurt Lewin

Abraham Lincoln, astrology november 29 2010, beliefs, fanatic, Gettysburg Address, horoscope, Jupiter in Pisces, Mars in Sagittarius, Mars square Jupiter

Cosmic Watch:

Fanatics in power and the funnel of a tornado have this in common – the narrow path in which they move is marked by violence and destruction.” – Oscar Otlund

Mars in Sagittarius square Jupiter in Pisces is exact on Monday, November 29th, 2010 (9:51 am), although this very potent influence is already applying and will be felt even for a few days after it is exact.

At its noblest, Mars square Jupiter can galvanize us to take “heroic action.” Mars, the planet of energy and adventure, can signify “acts of courage” and “bravery.”  Aligned with expansive Jupiter, which symbolizes our “higher beliefs” and “philosophy of life,” we are more willing to “crusade” or “go to bat” for whatever it is that we believe in. We may believe we are on a quest for the truth.

President Abraham Lincoln, for example, delivered the Gettysburg Address, one of the most inspiring speeches in American history, with Mars and Jupiter exactly conjunct in the heavens. Jupiter also rules political statesmen and public speaking.

We also seem to have more physical energy at our disposal with this aspect, as expander Jupiter “enlarges” whatever it touches, and linked with energizer Mars, the energy in the body mounts proportionately.

Mars-Jupiter is also associated with sports and athletics and potentially gives us a greater desire to want to excel/break records as our competitive spirit tends to be very high with this energy.

A common pitfall to this Mars-Jupiter energy is that we can go overboard or overexert ourselves physically.

Mars placement in “forward-thinking” Sagittarius likely focuses our attention on the future.  It is deemed to be visionary. We are potentially now thinking more about the long-term effects of our actions and how we can leave our imprint on the collective.

Of course, this Mars in Sadge desire to tangibly shape the future is magnified that much more now with Mars’ alignment with expansive Jupiter, the natural ruler of Sagittarius. Jupiter, too, is tucked away in dreamy, idealistic Pisces.

Jupiter, too, although generally regarded as a benefic planet with seemingly positive impact for our lives, on the shadow side, it can make us a little too full of ourselves, moralistic. Merged with high-octane Mars, we can more easily take issue with others’ beliefs or principles, feeling that we are justified in doing so, because we are only following “higher directives.”

Cosmic Watch:

“You ought to be able to explain why you’re taking the job you’re taking, why you’re making the investment you’re making, or whatever it may be.  And if it can’t stand applying pencil to paper, you’d better think it through some more.  And if you can’t write an intelligent answer to those questions, don’t do it.” – Warren Buffet.

Billionaire Warren Buffet, an analytical Virgo, has his Mental Mercury in Balancing Libra in a tight square to show me the money Saturn, in achievement Capricorn. This influence potentially gives him a tendency to want to weigh matters very carefully – characteristically checking ideas and plans for their level of utility – before rendering a decision or verdict or embarking on a particular course of action.

Saturn signifies both responsibility and the practical urge. With Mercury-Saturn, we ideally learn to be accountable for our thoughts and ideas.

Buffett’s more pragmatic orientation is also a good preview of the general mindset that we can expect to adopt with Mental Mercury entering Saturn’s utilitarian Capricorn, November 30th through December 18th. (Mercury enters Capricorn at 7:11 pm on Nov. 30th.)

Mercury signifies our thinking and communication.  It also rules transportation.

Mercury in Saturn’s native homestead is practical, cautious, focus and disciplined. Because Saturn also speaks to us of our fears, on the shadow-side, Mercury here can initially make us more fearful and worried, until we have our plans and strategies carefully in place, at which time we tend to feel more confident and in control.

Too, with Karma Lord Saturn’s inherent penchant for wanting to call the shots, Mercury in Capricorn tends to make us want to communicate in an authoritative manner. We want to be taken seriously and want to give the impression that we know what we’re talking about.

Mercury in Capricorn is also a time to evaluate, and if warranted, put into motion the futuristic ideas and inspirations we received while Mercury was stationed in Dreamer Sagittarius.

(Mercury will be retrograde December 10th through December 30th.  It will also leave Capricorn and re-enter Sagittarius on December 18th, where it will stay until January 13th of 2011, at which time it goes back into Capricorn, staying there until February 3, 2011. Mercury retrograde is a period when we review and or revise our decisions, taking action on them when Mercury once again goes direct.)

Hope it’s a good one!

Cosmic Watch:

With intellectual Mercury square to inventive Uranus today we may receive sudden, brilliant, intuitive insights into things, and be able to solve problems, puzzles more quickly. On the shadow side, we may feel more mentally restless.

Additionally, we have Mercury sextile imaginative Neptune which bodes well for our creative and psychic abilities. A day when it is very easy to get lost in our fantasies. Too, we may also want to pay closer attention to our nocturnal dreams now which Neptune rules as they could be trying to tell us something.

Since Neptune also symbolically represents our link with the divine this is a perhaps good time to go inward.

This Date In History:

November 24, 1966:

The Beatles begin recording sessions for their masterpiece eighth album: Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band which was later released on June 1, 1967. The group reportedly spent over 400 hours in the recording studio producing this one album. The BBC would later end up banning one of the songs from it, “A Day In The Life” out of reported concern over a supposed drug reference in the song, “I’d love to turn you on…”

On 11/24/66 the Moon was in fiery, pioneering Aries. Also, adding to the level of excitement that day: The illuminating Sun and Creative Venus were affectionately conjunct in storytelling Sagittarius, harmoniously trined to lucky, expansive Jupiter in showman Leo, the sign of entertainment.

Enterprising Mars, the ruler of trailblazing Aries, was in perfectionist Virgo and exactly conjunct “inventive genius” Uranus. Mars and Uranus were additionally in a close conjunction to transforming Pluto in Virgo.

So we had a cool host of intense, game-changing influences for the collective, in effect.

Ambitious Saturn, too, often billed as the “Lord of Karma,” was in Imaginative Pisces, the sign which rules music, and in an exact flowing trine to mystical, psychedelic Neptune (Neptune rules drugs).  Neptune is also the planetary ruler of Pisces. Of course, Sgt. Pepper had a very mystical, psychedelic theme to it. Drug Kingpin Neptune was also hanging out in revamping Scorpio at the time, maybe part of the reason why so many were trying to find “psychic redemption” then through mind-altering drugs.

Too, Neptune rules our dreams and fantasies, and when aligned favorably with “karma rewards king” Saturn, we often see the manifestation of our dreams (creativity) coming true. We are better able to give tangible form and shape (Saturn) to the products of our imagination (Neptune) i.e. through songwriting, poetry, painting, etc.

Traditionalist and status quo preserver Saturn in dreamy Pisces was also opposite the rebellious and personally liberating Mars, Uranus, and Pluto conjunction, delineating the general angst that was going on in the collective then among the new ‘hippie” generation for radical change and the older generation of yesteryear.  This angst was, of course, also artistically woven in a masterful way into the fabric of Sgt Pepper and even evident on the unique cover of the record album which was very original (Uranus), spacey and psychedelic (Neptune), and a likely game-changer (Pluto) for the music industry.

Jupiter Opposite Neptune: Vatican Abolishes Latin As Official Liturgy 11/23

This Date In History:

November 23, 1964:

The Vatican abolishes “Latin” as the official language of the Roman Catholic liturgy. In the sky, Jupiter in Practical Taurus is applying to an exact 180 degree opposition to Neptune in Transformational Scorpio.

In astrology, Jupiter symbolizes growth and the urge to expand our horizons. It additionally represents our higher beliefs, philosophy of life, and moral convictions. As an outgrowth of this, Jupiter is associated with organized religion and formal teachings, academia, and the promulgation of wisdom and higher understanding. Neptune, meanwhile, signifies the urge to escape beyond the confines or limitations of the material earth plane. Accordingly, it represents our specific desire for a link to the divine, or our urge for spirituality. Neptune rules faith, prayer, meditation, and houses of worship. Additionally, “opposition aspects” suggest “turning points.”

With “Jupiter opposite Neptune,” therefore, the Vatican likely felt a keen need to grow or expand (Jupiter) the church’s sphere of influence in people’s lives in a practical way (Taurus), and perhaps felt that by eliminating the more complex Latin liturgy, there would be more ease of expression in the worship services (Neptune) and possibly more assimilation of the spiritual doctrine being spread. In the end, the changeover or transformation (Scorpio) ended up being a major transition for many of the regular churchgoers to adjust to, myself included.

Jupiter Conjunct Uranus 11/22: Beatles Release Their “White Album”

This Date In History:

November 22, 1968

Beatles release Beatles also dubbed the White Album, the group’s only double album. It was called the White Album because it did not have any text or graphics on it, only the word “Beatles” on a plain white backdrop.

Many of the songs in the double album showcase experimentation with music from a hodgepodge of unexpected genres including 1930s dance hall music and chamber music. At the time, the usage of these diverse styles into one album was pretty unprecedented on the pop music scene. Most of the songs were reportedly inspired during transcendental meditation sessions with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh, India in the spring of 1968.

John Lennon’s female companion and artistic collaborator, Yoko Ono, was also present with him for the first time in the recording studio for the production of the album, something that would later become more and more commonplace.

Eric Clapton played lead guitar on George Harrison’s While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Other songs in the White Album: Dear Prudence, Back In The U.S.S.R., and Revolution 9. In 2003, the album was reportedly ranked number ten on Rolling Stones list of  “The 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.”

When the White Album was released on Nov. 22nd, Expansive Jupiter in Artistic Libra was tightly conjunct Genius Uranus in the sky, with Uranus serving as a chief instigator of the Counterculture in the 60s. Mental Mercury was also conjunct Mystical Neptune, who was seriously meditating away with the Maharishi, too, in Probing Scorpio. Energizer Mars in Creative Libra was also exactly square to Libra’s ruler Venus in Business Capricorn, another indicator of artistic expression.

With Dream Big Jupiter conjoined Rebel Uranus, there is often a deep need to “experiment” and “change things up.”   Perhaps why we have the merging of the different musical genres on the double album. Uranus symbolizes the wacky scientist experimenting in the laboratory. Too, with Jupiter-Uranus,  Jupiter characteristically acts as a big cheerleader for the latter, goading him on in his constant quest for “new significant breakthroughs.”

The Illuminating Sun had also just entered Adventurous Sagittarius that day, just like today.  It was harmoniously sextile to both Jupiter and Uranus, acting as a “trigger” to that planetary duo’s more “non-traditional” or “oddball” brand of creativity.

We also have Jupiter conjunct Uranus again now, this time in Neptune-ruled Pisces, a creative sign also associated with musical and artistic achievement.   Just last week, with Jupiter getting ready to station direct in Pisces, Apple announced that its iTunes service would start selling Beatles music. Interestingly, too, when the White Album was being recorded, the Beatles were simultaneously debuting their new “Apple Corps,” a multimedia business enterprise. Seems what goes around, comes around.

Astrology Mars Conjunct Jupiter: Lincoln Delivers Gettysburg Address

American Civil War, equality, freedom, Gettysburg Address, Gettysburg Address given by Abraham Lincoln on November 19 1863, Mars conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio, moral convictions, Pluto in Taurus, pluto opposite jupiter, pluto opposite mars

On November 19, 1863: U.S. President Abraham Lincoln delivers the “Gettysburg Address” at the dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Gettysburg Address, of course, is regarded as one of the greatest speeches in American history. In the speech, Lincoln redefined the Civil War as a struggle that would bring about “a new birth of freedom” and “equality” to all Americans.

Fascinatingly, in the heavens that day, assertive Mars and philosophical Jupiter were exactly conjunct at 11 degrees of transformational Scorpio. Jupiter symbolizes our moral convictions and philosophy of life. With Jupiter, we tend to look at the “bigger picture,” and how we all fit into it. Jupiter is regarded as benevolent and philanthropic in nature. It also rules politicians and public speaking.

Motivating Mars, meanwhile, as ruler of Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, is very trailblazing and pioneering. It also is the planet of war (rules the aggressive urge) and signifies courage and bravery. Too, when we get Mars and Jupiter together in Scorpio, there may be heightened intensity that potentially poises us to go very deep into issues. There may also be greater willingness to go to battle (Mars) with respect to what we believe in or espouse. (Jupiter).

Sometimes Mars-Jupiter energy is also equated with fanaticism to the degree that it may be linked with abundant enthusiasm that we display for our message and the causes we are espousing. Too, Jupiter can sometimes can off as a bit preachy.

Even though Pluto had not been “officially discovered” at the time, it was at 11 degrees of Taurus that day, which put it exactly opposite the Mars-Jupiter conjunction in Scorpio (Pluto now rules Scorpio).

Pluto denotes our “urge for regeneration,” or “rebirth,” and its energy and awareness tends to be very penetrating and intense.  Pluto, in opposition to Mars-Jupiter, therefore, most likely served to magnify “even further” the passion and enthusiasm for renewal for the country that Lincoln must have been feeling that day delivering his speech. His message resonating at an optimum time for “mind altering impact” upon the public.

Pluto was also in Taurus which signifies “what we value,” and the Gettysburg Address was about learning to value “all Americans” as equals, a clear change from earlier consciousness (Pluto).

The Illuminating Sun and Mercury were also in Re-birthing Scorpio, and trine to the Compassionate Moon in Pisces, a Moon placement which inclines to make us more aware of our similarities versus our differences.  Pisces symbolizes our link “to the divine” and also represents civil rights.

This Date In History:

November 18, 2004:

The William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum opens in Little Rock Arkansas, with over two million photographs and 80 million documents. Communicator Mercury, ruling words and reading, is conjunct Transforming Pluto in Literary Sagittarius, the sign of books and publishing.

“Mercury-Pluto” is often “game-changing,” to the degree that our mental perceptions are often transmuted (Pluto) in wake of new information (Mercury). Pluto also rules what has previously been “hidden” or “kept secret.” With Mercury-Pluto, we traditionally become privy to information (Mercury) that we perhaps did not know about before (Pluto).

The ruler of Sagittarius, Expansive Jupiter, in Diplomatic Libra, was also exactly trine to Image Ruling Neptune (Neptune rules photography) in Hi-Tech Aquarius. Jupiter is also associated with “politics” and “political statesmen.” With Jupiter trine Neptune, there is also more of a predilection and mindset to “idealize” or “look fondly upon” things.  Perhaps, in this case, it was looking more favorably upon political statesman, Bill Clinton.

Additionally the Sun, signifying world leaders, was in Refurbishing Scorpio (Pluto-ruled sign) and forming an exact trine to Achievement Saturn in Home-Based Cancer. “Sun trine Saturn” here would be symbolizing a dignitary (Clinton-Sun) being recognized and offered up “in an altering way” (Scorpio) for his worldly accomplishments (Saturn). That celebration formally taking place near the location of his “familial roots.” (Cancer) The sign of Cancer also governs history, and, of course, the library is historical in nature.

“The story that began in a little house on Hervey Street in Hope, Arkansas, inspires people from every background all over America,” President George W. Bush, at the opening ceremony for the Clinton library.
