“Fanatics in power and the funnel of a tornado have this in common – the narrow path in which they move is marked by violence and destruction.” Oscar Otlund

Mars in Sagittarius square Jupiter in Pisces is exact on Monday, November 29th, 2010 (9:51 am EST), although this very potent influence is already applying and will be felt even for a few days after its exact.

At its noblest, Mars square Jupiter can galvanize us to take “heroic action.” Mars, the planet of energy and adventure, can signify “acts of courage” and “bravery.”  Aligned with expansive Jupiter, which symbolizes our “higher beliefs” and “philosophy of life,” we are more willing to “crusade” or “go to bat” for whatever it is that we believe in. We are on a quest for the truth. President Abraham Lincoln, for example, delivered the Gettysburg Address, perhaps the greatest, most inspiring speech in American history, with Mars and Jupiter exactly conjunct in the heavens. (Jupiter also rules political statesmen and public speaking.)

We also seem to have more physical energy at our disposal with this aspect, as expander Jupiter “enlarges” whatever it touches, and linked with energizer Mars, the energy in the body mounts proportionately. Mars-Jupiter could actually be characterized as more of a “manic” influence on the body, mind, and spirit, as our enthusiasm knows no bounds under its spell.

Mars-Jupiter is also associated with competitive sports and athletics, and gives us a great desire to want to excel and break records.  Our competitive spirit is very high with this energy. (Mars rules sports, exercise.)

A common pitfall to this aspect, though: we can go overboard, become too manic or driven, and end up plum wearing ourselves out physically, thereby, potentially injuring ourselves or weakening our body’s immune system.  So it is very important to temper and or restrain our actions, with this influence, and get proper rest and nutrition.

Mars placement in “forward-thinking” Sagittarius focuses our attention on the future.  It is visionary. We are thinking more about the long-term affects of our actions. We want to tender a lasting impact on the world, initiate disciples to follow our gospel. No surprise here that Sagittarius is also the sign associated with organized religion.

Of course, this Mars in Sag desire to tangibly shape the future is magnified that much more now with Mars’ alignment with preacher-teacher Jupiter, the natural ruler of Sagittarius. Jupiter, too, is tucked away in dreamy Pisces, which on the shadow side can be more “delusional” and “pie in the sky” Pollyanna.  Jupiter in Pisces doesn’t particularly care to break down and analyze its movements. Preferring instead, to operate “mainly on faith.”

Jupiter, too, although generally regarded as a benefic planet with seemingly positive impact for our lives, on the shadow side, it can make us a little too “full of ourselves,” if not outright arrogant, self-righteous, and extremist. Merged with manic Mars, we can very easily and fanatically ride roughshod over others’ beliefs or principles, feeling that we are justified in doing so, because we are only following “higher directives,” whatever that may mean. This smugness and perceived monopoly on the truth, of course, can end up being very dangerous, if allowed to run unchecked.

On a collective level now, too, we may want to pay closer attention to the world news, with this Mars-Jupiter “crusader’ influence as a galvanizing backdrop. We already have a volatile situation in North Korea where the rogue leader of that country appears to be pushing his own agenda, no matter the cost to the rest of the world. Mars rules war, so we must be careful now that Jupiter doesn’t stoke that flame.

Also, WikiLeaks founder is reportedly going to release hundreds of thousands of classified documents that U.S. officials are saying could endanger countless lives, pose security problems, and embarrass the U.S. and its allies.  Apparently, he is doing this to unveil “the truth,” regardless of the consequences. Sounding all very Mars-Jupiter to me, and if I may say, very fanatical. Sagittarius is also the sign of publishing.

Additionally, copious Jupiter in Pisces could denote information that is classified or hidden, as Pisces signifies what is submerged. Warrior Mars here aggressively bringing all this info to the surface. Too, Mars, as mentioned earlier, rules war and conflict, and reportedly much of this information to be released by Wikileaks pertains to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Jupiter symbolically “blabbing it away.”

Perhaps, in an effort to express the very best of this Mars-Jupiter aspect, it would probably be prudent for all of us to consciously try to detach or disengage ourselves from our personal agendas for a bit.  Get down off our soapbox long enough to see if the message or litany that we feel compelled to promote now is something that is really for the “greater good of all,” versus something that is really only feeding or glorifying our ego.  If we realize that it is more of the latter, then we may want to keep a lid on it and do something instead that will truly help lift others up, which is something that Mars-Jupiter energy is also excellent for. We need to keep in mind, too, what Abraham Lincoln did with this very same kind of energy.
