Curved Path

(Today’s planetary aspects: Rational Mercury squares evasive Neptune; impatient Mars quinqunxes restraining Saturn; the Moon is in corrective Virgo; and yesterday’s reform-oriented Jupiter-Uranus trine, is still in effect. )

Cosmic Quote of the Day: “There is stability in walking an uncertain path, because you never allow yourself to be misled by what you think you know.” A. J. Darkholme

When we do presume to know the “lay of the land,” we do tend to naturally let our guard down. Or, are possibly more apt to relax our critical judgment as we figure we will probably not be encountering too many surprises or other stuff we cannot handle. However, sometimes it is that very “I got this” attitude that can end up leading us down a more precarious path.

With today’s energy, especially the trickier Mercury-Neptune connection, which can sometimes serve to distort, delete, or cloak the facts, it may be very advantageous for us to not take anything for granted now, and to be extra vigilant regarding some of the situations which we find ourselves. That vigilance may be arrived at by doing such practical things as double-checking stuff, asking for clarity when in doubt, making sure others understand what we’re trying to communicate to them, refraining from automatically accepting things at face value. Fortunately, the Moon deposited in logical Virgo, all day, can serve as a healthy filter to help us wade through the obscuring Neptunian fog. Too, this can be a great day to do any creative work that calls for employing the power of our imagination.  Meanwhile, the Mars-Saturn quinqunx influence may also require us to justify our actions, especially to those who are in charge. One of my favorite astrologers, Lilly Roddy, said in her daily blog today, that we may want to just use this day as a “mental health day,” and chill out with movies and snacks, while planning for tomorrow. Also sounds like a good strategy!

Famous Birthdays June 23: Randy Jackson, Clarence Thomas, Richard Bach.

“You’re never given a dream without also being given the power to make it true.” Richard Bach, The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah.

On a personal note, I’ve been absent from this blog for the last three months, mainly due to my workload. Hopefully, though, I’ll be able to be around here with more regularity in the future.

Hope you enjoy your day!

Astrology March 5, 2015: A Full Moon in “Purifying” Virgo

Tags

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” Ernest Hemingway

COSMIC WATCH:

A Full Moon in “purifying” Virgo, today (1:05 pm), the sign of health and work, paves the way for self-improvement projects, makeovers, general healing, dietary changes, detox efforts, de-cluttering, recycling, becoming better organized, tidying things up. Also, some things that perhaps managed to elude our awareness before, are now getting ready to come into full view of our consciousness.

Too, the impact of what is about to be revealed, could be something that’s very powerful for us, in a galvanizing way, especially since we have so many other potent, illuminating aspects occurring at this same time – aspects that sort of all piggy back on each other, including the “opportunity-laden” Jupiter Uranus trine, and the seventh and last installment of the “game-changing” Uranus and Pluto square, which I’ll be discussing more about, in an upcoming blog.

The “keeping it real” Virgo Full Moon is also excellent for providing us with an accurate, no-nonsense assessment of what’s really going on around us – a nice complement to the more “idealistic, otherworldly” Sun in Pisces influence, which can sometimes find us getting too caught up, or lost, in our pipe dreams or fantasies.

The Virgo Moon also symbolizing “the voice of reason”, while the Pisces Sun represents, “the voice of our intuition,” which some also view as the “voice of Spirit” operating within us. With this lunation, we’re seeking to balance and integrate both of these voices.

This Full Moon’s trine to “transforming” Pluto also directs us to confidently step into our own power, while simultaneously serving to ignite our heart’s passions. Too, with our passions on the rise, there’s also possibly more of a feeling now that we’re truly on the way to fulfilling our life’s purpose, or special destiny, especially since passion is something that is often equated with leading us to our soul’s, or higher self’s, true calling. Included in all of this here, too, is the possibility of a very deep, if not sacred sense now, of our own renewal, especially on an emotional level; coupled with this may also be a very strong desire to focus firmly on the tasks ahead.

There may also be an increased willingness to release, with greater ease and serenity now, those things that are no longer serving us on our journey. Sometimes, too, just letting go of an attitude can be the thing that begins to turn our life around, in a major way.

Writer Caroline Myss also suggests that we eliminate five words from our vocabulary, when we’re ready to move on: blame, deserve, guilt, fair, and fault. She says that this is because these five words “often make it easier for us to fall into negative emotional patterns.”

“I realize there’s something incredibly honest about trees in winter, how they’re experts at letting things go.” Jeffrey McDaniel

This Full Moon may also put more of a spotlight on the following areas: joint financial matters, investments, taxes, insurance, wills and estates, research or investigation. This energy also favors archeological digs, therapy, deep tissue massage, adopting a new fitness regime, implementing more quality control measures at work, making repairs, improving or perfecting a craft, revising job search strategies, updating resumes, meeting with employment counselors.

Astrology March 2, 2015: The Moon’s in “Happy” Leo, Grand Fire Trine

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.” Rumi

COSMIC WATCH:

Sunflowers

As of this writing, Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” video – the Official Music Version” of it on YouTube – has received over 593 million views since its original publication date of November 21 2013! Amazing, isn’t it? While I’m no music or video critic, I like to think that one of the main reasons for the song’s epic popularity with the collective (apart from the superb video, itself, which was reportedly the “real catalyst” that launched the song into the stratosphere) is because both the lyrics and melody are something that seem to deeply resonate with nearly all of us on a ‘soul level.’ To paraphrase Rumi a bit: we can’t help but feel a river moving through us, a joy, when we listen to the upbeat words and rhythm of this masterful piece of work. Pharrell is also on record as saying that he thinks “all music is a gift from God.” While I’m not sure if I would make a blanket statement like that, on the topic, I do believe that “Happy” originated from some zenith location inhabited by the gods. Pharrell, by the way, is a “pioneering” Aries with his Sun in a tight, one-degree conjunction with “lovable” Venus, an influence that tends to make a person very likable. Also, often an artist, in some regard.

Too, it appears that the “happy” Leo Moon, today, is perhaps brilliantly plotting in her own stellar manner to give Pharrell a real run for his money now, by lighting up the sky above with a spectacular “Grand Fire Trine” involving Saturn, Mars, Venus, Uranus, and Jupiter. This is a highly creative configuration that potentially allows us to tap more effortlessly into our own river of ‘soulful resources,’ especially our reservoir of talent, or individual gifted-ness, with Leo being the sign of the entertainer, the producer.

This “invigorating” Grand Trine is also setting the stage for tomorrow morning’s exact, 120-degree alignment between “propitious” Jupiter in Leo and “unexpected” Uranus in Aries – an aspect often associated with “rare opportunities” suddenly descending upon our doorstep. “Let me tell ya. You gotta pay attention to signs. When life reaches out with a moment like this it’s a sin if you don’t reach back… I’m telling you.” Matthew Quick, The Silver Linings Playbook

Astrology March 1, 2015: Mercury Sextiles Uranus, Opposes Jupiter

“Life is a series of opportunities for us to connect with who we really are and what we love.” Alan Cohen

COSMIC WATCH:

We begin the day with the Moon void-of-course in “sensitive” Cancer. The Moon enters “entertaining” Leo at 6:34 pm.

Mercury in Aquarius sextiles Uranus in Aries at 10:55 am. It opposes Jupiter in Leo at 4:15 pm.

Don’t you just love those days when, what you’ve been struggling to learn or know, all of a sudden “makes a grand appearance” in your life, and you’re no longer left “stumbling in the dark,” so to speak? Those “appearances,” commonly referred to as “light bulb moments,” are often synonymous with Mercury-Uranus alignments, with Mercury governing our reasoning and thinking abilities, and Uranus symbolizing our brilliance, genius, or intuition.

Also, the Mercury-Jupiter opposition can make us hungry for higher meaning, understanding, wanting to share our beliefs and views with others, as well as wanting to perhaps investigate such areas as religion, philosophy, and the teachings of other cultures. It is also an aspect that is linked with voluminous writing, publishing, traveling, expansive conversation (chattiness, too), public speaking, promotion or advertising. To attain knowledge, add things everyday. To attain wisdom, remove things every day.” Lao Tzu

Astrology February 28, 2015: Sentimental Cancer Moon Aligns with Uranus and Pluto

“That’s what people do who love you. They put their arms around you and love you when you’re not so lovable.” Deb Caletti

COSMIC WATCH:

Blackbird Chicks In Nest

The Moon remains in “nesting” Cancer, all day. Knowing that we have a “place to call home,” and people around us who “have our back,” no matter what, is especially comforting for us now. This lunar position can also invoke our patriotism, or allegiance to our tribe – the “first chakra” issues.  The Moon goes void-of-course in Cancer at 12:53 pm, and will remain so until it shifts into “self-expressive” Leo at 6:34 pm, on Sunday.

The Cancer Moon forms a square to “erratic” Uranus, late this morning, at 11:49 am. This could bring about some emotional vacillation, as well as a desire to “bust out of our routines.” We may also need to be flexible with matters on the home front, especially when things do not go as planned. Too, surrendering our expectations for how things are “supposed to be,” and going, instead, with what wants to show up in the moment, can be a very positive way to navigate this period. Uranus symbolizes the unexpected, change, taking new approaches, liberation, radical thinking, people who break or circumvent the rules, astrologers, inventors, electrical activity.

The Moon also forms an opposition to “tell it like it is” Pluto, 12:53 pm. While this more emotionally intense influence can lead us to “the truth,” we may want to refrain now from acting upon any of the burgeoning revelations, until we’ve at least had a chance to sit with them for a while. Kind of like when we take a cake out of the oven, we don’t want to cut it, while it’s still hot. Pluto symbolizes secrets, or what has been hidden, the domain of the subconscious, the basement of a house, plumbing, extremist views, obsessions, grave-diggers, miners, psychotherapists.

“Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” Spock, Star Trek. Rest in peace, Leonard Nimoy. (March 26, 1931 – February 27, 2015)

Question for Today: Is there anything you’ve been wanting to say to a family member, but just haven’t said it yet? (This could also include those family members who have transitioned.) If so, what exactly would you like to say?

In the News: With the Moon in “security-driven” Cancer, and forming a fluid trine to “putting aside our differences” Neptune, the U.S. Congress finally passes “Stopgap Funding for Homeland Security,” late last night (wsj.com).

Earlier in the evening, the Cancer Moon was also square to Mars in “initiating” Aries.  Squares are often synonymous with our needing to take prompt action. It is also the nature of “warrior” Mars to act swiftly on matters that are deemed necessary for our survival and well-being. Had Congress not acted on this measure by midnight, funding for Homeland Security was set to expire.

Astrology February 27, 2015: A Time to Pause? Moon enters Cancer

Tags

“Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.” C.G. Jung

COSMIC WATCH:

Footsteps 2

We’ve all heard: Three steps forward, two steps back. I believe, today, with the Moon entering its home turf of “protective” Cancer (7:50 am EST), and forming a late day trine to “reflective” Neptune (9:59 pm EST), which is still involved in the latter stages of that annual, dreamy conjunction with the Sun, in “transcendent” Pisces, we’re pretty much into that “two steps backward” phase of our journey now. Feeling a need to chew upon our latest moves, or forays into the world.

Some of us, too, may have launched a lot of “rockets of desire,” as of late, with both Mars and Venus entering “initiating” Aries. Too, anytime we put new things into motion, shortly afterwards, if not immediately, we begin to feel the consequences of that activity, and that activity almost always ends up impacting us, to some degree, on an energetic level.

For example, as you may have noticed, I’ve been trying to blog here with more regularity, and have been doing so for more than a week now (it started with Mars applying to a conjunction with my 2 degree Aries Ascendant). But, I must confess, this activity has already come at somewhat of a cost to me. While I like the notion of challenging myself to create something “out of nothing,” the downside of doing this, nearly daily, is that it also routinely requires a good chunk of both my mental and physical energy, time, etc. – yadda yadda yadda. 🙂 So now, with the assist of the “self-nurturing” Cancer Moon, if I’m a smart cookie, I may want to take a moment out here, to weigh the “pros and cons” of this very “self-humbling” endeavor. And, likewise, you may want to do the same thing, with regard to what you’ve recently thrown up onto the canvas of life – to see if it makes sense for you to continue along this trajectory, in the same manner. Or, maybe you – as well as I – will both discover that we need to implement some immediate, corrective, generous self-care measures – a bit of tweaking of things – to stabilize or sustain our spirit, as well as preserve any remaining portion of our sanity and good humor.

Also, before the “maternal” Cancer Moon harmoniously trines Neptune, tonight, she’s going to square “assertive” Mars in Aries (7:41 pm EST) the warrior planet, suggesting that we may be a little tempted to come out of the self-imposed hibernation mode to consider flexing our muscle, for a flash. Especially if we discern the behavior’s warranted because we’re being taunted, bullied, etc by maybe the dog, the television, or our lovable in-laws. The testosterone laden Moon-Mars aspect is often associated with defensive posturing or maneuvering.

Also, “expansive” Jupiter, governing our beliefs, optimism, and personal philosophy is quinqunx “reconfigurating” Pluto, today. This rather off-kilter influence may inspire us to temporarily revisit some of our beliefs about things, especially those self-limiting beliefs that may be sabotaging or undermining our own interests, or otherwise interfering with our self-growth, in some manner. Too, isn’t it funny how we frequently can get in our own way, and never even know it at the time? Often, the only way we ever even become cognizant of this fact is that an event will occur, or we’ll get sick, etc., and then, all of a sudden, we’re gifted with this amazing, remarkable clarity of how we’ve been keeping our self small due to our convoluted thinking. “You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death to you.” C.S. Lewis

Astrology February 26, 2015: Moon Continues in Gemini

“Before I can become an expert on anything, I must first become an expert on me.” Charles F. Glassman

COSMIC WATCH:

Maybe, blame it on the “playful, yet studious,” void-of-course Gemini Moon, but, for some reason, I just felt like doing something a little different here, today. So, what I’ve done is embody, what I perceive to be, the “main cosmic energy” of the day into what I feel are three, suitable archetypal figures (or patterns of identity) below, and then formulated a few questions around them. Too, there are no right or wrong answers. More, it’s simply an exercise in what happens to come up for you in the moment. Hope you enjoy!

Who would you rather be holed up with on a desert island, and why?

  1. A reporter (Moon in Gemini)
  2. A monk (Sun conjunct Neptune)
  3. An “Olympic athlete” (Mars trine Saturn)

Which of the three do you think has the hardest job? The easiest job?

Which of the three would you be the least comfortable around?

How are all three roles similar?

If you had to reincarnate as any of the three, which one would you pick?

How might any or all of these three archetypal patterns also be playing out in your life, right now?

Of course, too, you may also want to come up with your own archetypes for today, especially if none of these resonate with you. You could also even choose archetypes that might be manifesting more of the darker side of today’s energy, simply as models of study. I also just thought of another question to ask: Assuming you believe in a Higher Power, if you were living your life purely from your Spirit or Soul today (Sun conjunct Neptune) – instead of from your “self-survival” oriented Ego – what might you be guided to do now? Any big changes you might consider making? Or, with what you currently have on the drawing board for your self, do you think you would you be following through with this agenda now – or might you be scrapping it, or possibly tweaking it, with your Soul at the wheel? Do you also see your life necessarily “as better” directed from your soul’s compass?

“Don’t wish it were easier. Wish you were better.” Jim Rohn

COSMIC WATCH:

The “keep your nose to the grindstone” inner prompting may appear tonight as energetic Mars trines stoic Saturn (10:09 pm), an aspect associated with disciplined effort, steely resolve, and strategic planning. Mars symbolizes our assertive ability, Saturn our perseverance; the trine aspect signifies ease and harmony between these two heavenly bodies.

Shortly after the Mars-Saturn trine, tonight, the empowering Sun is also having its annual meet-up (conjunction) with transcendent Neptune in Pisces (11:55 pm), an influence that, by contrast, tends to make us less concerned about achievement in the outer world and more interested in what’s occurring within our private world. This Sun-Neptune energy is excellent time for journaling, meditation, dream work. Also, for creative endeavors that use our imagination/visioning abilities.

The Moon is also in curious adaptable Gemini, the entire day.

“Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what it was, nor forward to what it might be, but living in the present and accepting it as it is now.” Anne Morrow Lindbergh

COSMIC WATCH:

With “social” Venus trining “anchoring” Saturn, today (9:58 am EST), shoring up our support systems may be more on our radar now, especially, perhaps, in the two big areas that are ruled by Venus: money and relationships. Too, we all know how these two realms often are closely intertwined with each other, with “money issues” frequently cited as the main reason many couples divorce, or split up. I know, too, in the past, I’ve often heard money guru Suze Orman say that, once we get our finances in order, everything else will fall into place. On a financial level, Venus trine Saturn favors budgeting, investment analysis, buying long-term possessions, obtaining backing. Relationship-wise, it tends to coincide with fostering commitments, spelling out duties in partnerships.

On another level, Venus in “pioneering” Aries may also inspire us to put something creative into the ether that we personally identify with, with the Saturn trine, ideally, helping us to be successful in this area.

The Moon is void-of-course in “material” Taurus all day, until 11:54 pm EST, when it shifts into “curious” Gemini.

“Success is not a function of the size of your title but the richness of your contribution.” Robin S. Sharma

COSMIC WATCH:

Saturn

Sun squaring “serious” Saturn (8:56 am EST) is generally a one or two day period when we’re encouraged to take stock of our situation to see how we’re faring with respect to our long-term goals, making adjustments where we see fit. Of course, it’s often the nature of “teacher” Saturn to also toss in a few “challenges” along our path so that we can stretch our capabilities a bit – sort of akin to having us do a little barbell lifting, I suppose – something deemed to be good for us in the long run, but, in the short term, it may appear otherwise.

A big thing here, however, in all of this, is not to become overly critical or judgmental of our self, our performance, and maybe what we’ve failed or neglected to do, or to become preoccupied with our fears, but rather to see what steps we can take going forward to be more on track with what we truly want to manifest for our self. Also, it’s a good time to evaluate whether what we’re wanting to achieve is really a derivative of our own stuff, our own dreams – or are we simply carrying out, perhaps unconsciously, the directives of what other people want for us, like our parents, partners, etc. The shadow side of the Sun-Saturn can be feelings of guilt, regret, withdrawal. Feeling that we’re not good enough.

The Moon is also in “practical, determined” Taurus, all day, hopefully, providing us with the wherewithal to plow through any bumpy patches. The Moon’s trine to Pluto (9:01 pm EST) also potentially helps us put everything in perspective, in a transformative way. Moon-Pluto can also motivate us to probe deeper into our emotional nature. “Not enough people in this world, I think, carry a cosmic perspective with them. It could be life-changing.” Neil deGrasse Tyson
