This second Wednesday in January, we are treated to a Grand Earth Trine – courtesy of skilled maven Luna in Virgo. This type of configuration is created when a trio of planets in the Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) form an equilateral triangle of three trines in the sky. In a nutshell, it is thought to be a boon for productivity and delivering concrete results.

Luna forms the first leg of this Grand Trine to intellectual Mercury Rx in Capricorn (9:58 am). Ideally, an excellent time to gather/reflect upon our thoughts or partake in constructive dialogue with others. We may also have more insight into the inner workings of our emotions at this time.

Too, if we have to speak or present things publicly today – particularly of a business or corporate nature – this Moon-Mercury trine may be a more advantageous time to do so since this flow of more pragmatic energy naturally lends itself well to discussing more granular topics such as facts and figures, presiding over spreadsheet presentations, detailing quarterly forecasts/reports etc. (although with Mercury Rx, there could still be some revisions with these matters, down the road).

Luna’s trine to inventive Uranus Rx in Taurus (4:17 pm). This completes the second leg of the Moon’s Grand Trine. It is a period in which we may be more experimental or spontaneous in our approaches, including perhaps with respect to managing our finances, possessions, or investments. It may also be a time when we enjoy social interactions with large groups of people or involvement in cause-related or civic activities. On an emotional level, we may feel a special burst of aliveness.

On this red, white, and blue Fourth of July Monday, we find the nurturing Cancer Sun sextile to the analytical Virgo Moon (9:02 am), ideally frontloading us with a certain amount of flair or instinct for figuring things out or troubleshooting, including on the homefront. Emotional security is also augmented by having a plan in hand. There may also be a yearning to serve others in practical ways.

The Moon’s square to Venus in Gemini (11:38 am) poises us towards social engagement. Practicing some give and take here also helps to maintain harmony.

Early this evening, Luna trines innovative Uranus in Taurus (7:23 pm). A fun time to partake in something out of the ordinary.

This is also the last full day for motivator Mars in its home sign of initiating Aries, with Mars at the anaretic or 29-degree point of the sign. This degree is sometimes correlated with taking sudden, spontaneous actions that may go against what we had planned. Reasons behind this may be the fear of missing out or a perception that we are running out of time so we give matter(s) one last push, sometimes in desperation. Intellectual Mercury is also at 29 degrees of Gemini today so there may also be more of a propensity for some impromptu, or even hasty decision-making. Very timely here, too, might be heeding some sage advice that Benjamin Franklin, a Capricorn Sun, once gave: When in doubt, don’t. 

Numerologically, 7-4-2022 is both a “4” and “8” day. The number four represents the foundational aspect of our lives and has more of a stable, no-nonsense vibe to it. The number eight represents balance, ambition, and ultimate achievement. It’s associated with great leadership or executive ability. There is also more of an awareness of the importance of giving back to others with this number. It is also linked with the notion of salvation or renewal.

This Saturday, waning Luna – now in her crescent phase – remains all day long in serious, capable Capricorn, the surefooted sign of the goat. Being responsible, doing what is required of us, having the ability to make judgment calls in difficult situations are natural themes. Additionally, there is some willingness to explore new realms, adopt new practices, as Luna trines progressive Uranus in Taurus (6:40 am) and sextiles philosophical Jupiter in transpersonal Pisces (9:43 am). The Moon-Jupiter influence may also poise us to lean more into our faith or inspire us to make personal sacrifices for the perceived greater good. There may also be a desire to share with others some of the life lessons that we have learned, with the Moon in her disseminating stage.

This Day in History: On February 26, 1616, the Roman Inquisition delivers an injunction to astronomer and physicist Galileo Galilei demanding he abandons his belief in heliocentrism, which states the Earth and planets revolve around the Sun. At the time, Galileo had the transiting Mars, in scientifically-minded Aquarius, applying two degrees to an exact square to his natal Mars in Taurus and quincunx to his natal Jupiter in Cancer. Mars aspects often challenge us to vigorously defend ourselves – including specifically having to defend our beliefs, when aligned with Jupiter – the planet which symbolizes our worldviews as well as areas pertaining to the cosmos and outer space.

Born On This Day: The late iconic country singer and performer Johnny Cash, in 1932, in Kingsland, Arkansas. Cash’s long musical career spanned from 1954 to 2003; during that time he recorded 91 albums and 170 singles. Some of Cash’s most famous songs: Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire, and I Walk The Line.

In Johnny Cash’s birth chart, Jupiter, in entertainment Leo, was exactly conjunct his sixth house cusp of work and artisanship – no doubt playing a role in his prolific musical output and talent; Jupiter, by its expansive nature, tends to magnify everything it touches. This planet was also exactly trine to his natal Venus/Uranus conjunction in bold, pioneering Aries, perhaps adding to his originality, artistic flair, and special brand of personal charisma. Interestingly, the late legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor was born just one day after Cash and reportedly sent him a telegram on his birthday, every year.

Today’s Energy: 

The Moon in inspired Sagittarius is involved in an exciting grand fire trine with liberating Uranus, lovable Venus, and optimistic Jupiter. Generally, this influence can bring about an easing of our circumstances, or a situation in which we have more of a feeling of natural flow in our life. The element of fire makes us feel more alive.

The Moon’s opposition to Mercury, 6:20 am. This is an excellent hour for personal journaling as our we are hearing from both our heart and our head. Also, good for making out our to-do list.

Moon trine Uranus, 12:01 pm. We are ready to venture down the road less traveled. Anything wacky or different appeals to us. New approaches get us unstuck.

Moon trine Venus, 1:47 pm. This is the personification of cooperative energy with a capital C. Also, excellent for any social mingling, romantic encounters or getaways, beautifying projects. A tendency toward lavish expenditures is possible.

Moon trine Jupiter, 2:18 pm. We can envision that mountaintop and are pretty confident we are headed there. Anything we can do to grow our personal world has our attention. This energy also strengthens our convictions and inspires us to spread cheer and goodwill.

Moon trine experimental Uranus (8:32 am EDT) also makes a case for intuitively going with the flow of things to see what emerges. Astrology November 26, 2011: The Eclipse Works Magic For NBA

The National Basketball Association and its players have reportedly reached a tentative deal to end the 148-day lockout, according to the NYT.com, which is also reporting that the deal was agreed to on Black Friday, the same day as the partial solar eclipse at 2 degrees 37 minutes of Sagittarius. (Other news outlets are reporting the deal was reached early Saturday morning.) The NBA reportedly plans to start the season on Christmas Day and play a 66-game schedule. (Wonder if this agreement may be modified, though, later, in wake of Mercury being retrograde? Too, the deal still has to be approved by both the owners and players. Mercury rules agreements and negotiations.)

As I mentioned earlier in my Eclipse blog, this lunation in Sagittarius formed a positive, flowing trine to change-agent Uranus, in “new beginnings” Aries, suggesting more of a desire, both individually and collectively, to want to break with the past and move forward. Potentially, also boding well for ending difficult stalemates or impasses. Uranus also has a legacy with bringing about sudden breakthroughs in our stream of consciousness. Aries is also the sign that rules sports, while Sagittarius rules legal matters. The tentative NBA deal was reportedly agreed to at a Midtown Manhattan law office.

Too, New Moons, by their very nature, tend to coincide with fresh starts, while eclipses often bring about sudden endings.

Interestingly, this eclipse was also squared by energizing Mars in Virgo, the sign of labor, which perhaps helped to provide extra impetus to take sudden action to end this NBA labor dispute. Mars tends to give matters momentum. The eclipse also formed a quinqunx aspect to expansive Jupiter in financial Taurus, denoting the huge financial aspect at stake here for the NBA owners and players. The NBA reportedly generates $4 billion annually in revenues. No paltry sum by any stretch of the imagination.

Do you plan on watching any of the NBA games, when they start back up?  BTW, how did you fare with yesterday’s eclipse? Score any “slam dunks” with it? If not, don’t despair. There’s still some time. The eclipse point or degree stays activated for up to six months in our personal charts, although we usually feel some kind of “pop” from it, a few days on either side of the event.

Today we may receive an extra measure of cosmic assistance in getting those heartfelt words out, though, as communicator Mercury forms an exact conjunction to connection queen Venus, the grand goddess of love and beauty, in spontaneous Aries (11:45 am EDT). The feminine Moon also enters demonstrative Leo (5:36 am EDT) and forms a harmonious trine to electrifying Uranus in Aries (11:11 am EDT). Also, raising the delicious prospect for “sudden romance.”

Of course, with so much sadness and tragedy going on in the world around us now, it is much harder for many of us to feel very hopeful. Too, our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan. They have already gone through so much.

Ironically, we have mental Mercury, ruler of our thoughts, exactly aligned with optimistic, philosophical Jupiter (9:27 pm EDT) today. Mercury conjunct Jupiter is all about “keeping hope alive” and imagining wondrous possibilities, even when things seems bleak. With expansive Jupiter, we naturally tend to focus on the “bigger picture.” We attempt to connect all the dots.

The Moon also shifts from sensitive Cancer to self-expressive Leo (3:34 pm EDT), forming a powerful trine to electrifying change-agent Uranus in Aries (3:56 pm EST). Moon-Uranus could elevate our emotions and also our self-esteem (Aries). Maybe it will also bring about some positive, sudden breakthroughs (Uranus) or even miracles for those in need.
