The planet Mercury, governing travel, communication, contracts, and so forth, stations direct at 19 degrees of Sagittarius on December 30th at 2:22 am!
Mercury has been retrograde since December 10th. It turned retrograde at 5 degrees of Capricorn. It will officially be retracing its “shadow” until January 17th, when it gets back to that 5-degree mark.
When Mercury is retrograde, the overriding astrological perception is that there can be more general confusion, misunderstandings, reversals, travel snafus, etc. It is seen as a time when we “move forward” by actually “going backwards.”
In other words, we “review or mull over” our recent decisions or thinking on things. Ideally, the winged messenger retrograde cycle can also be an excellent time for tossing around new strategies in our head and then implementing them when Mercury stations direct.
Anyway, with Mercury direct again, we presumably have the green light from the cosmos to make important decisions, once again, negotiate contracts. We can also hopefully resume brushing our teeth in a forward motion. 🙂

WikiLeaks’ founder, Julian Assange, has reportedly inked a lucrative 1.3 million dollar book deal with a division of Random House. News of the deal came with the transiting Sun exactly conjunct Pluto in achievement Capricorn. Pluto symbolizes all that is buried or hidden, and is historically associated with covert operations, such as spying and espionage. When Pluto’s ray is activated, we tend to find out big, juicy secrets, and spies, and others who deal with the surreptitious gathering and or releasing of information, often grab the news headlines of the day.
Also, when Assange was arrested in London on December 7th, stemming from accusations of sexual misconduct by two women in Sweden, Pluto was exactly conjunct the Capricorn Ascendant in the arrest “event chart.”
What we want to know is: Will WikiLeaks be leaking Assange’s manuscript? 🙂
Celeb Assange is presently out on bail and reportedly holed up in some mansion near London. He publicly stated on Sunday that he agreed to the book deal to help defray the cost of his ever-mounting legal bills, and to also keep WikiLeaks’ website afloat.
Earlier, the site’s previous spokesman also landed a big book deal. Daniel Domscheit-Berg’s book, Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website, will be out in February. He is also planning on launching a new venue for leaking classified info called Openleaks early next year. Much to Pluto’s delight.

The Moon starts out the day in efficient Virgo, but it may require a bit of a juggling act to keep everything a go, as the Moon has her monthly opposition to extravagant Jupiter (5:51 am) and rebellious Uranus (7:22 am). We ideally progress now by not overextending/overcommitting ourselves or unduly rocking the boat with others.
Later, the Moon’s entrance into relationship Libra (12:39 pm) poises us for more socialization. Partnering up, though, could be a stretch when Luna squares off with controlling Pluto (9:26 pm) and the authoritative Sun (11:20 pm) – unless we consciously, perhaps, make an effort to be more cooperative versus reactive. We may also help to preserve the peace by reigning in a tendency to be manipulative.

As if we didn’t already have enough to worry about today with holiday gift returns and all. Now we have to add “boogeyman” Pluto, ruler of the underworld, to the mix via the Sun’s conjunction to Pluto in skeletal Capricorn.
With Sun-Pluto aspects there’s sometimes a tendency to look on the dark side of things or to overplay our fears. Pluto is thought to symbolize what is buried deep within our psychological caves.
Too, Sun-Pluto can also even bring out real-life spies clutching walkie-talkies and wearing trenchcoats!

Early Christmas Day there’s a colorful Leo the Lion Moon and gift wrap and ribbon could be flying all over the place in a dashing race to open up our gifts and see what Santa’s left us under the tree.
When the Moon enters practical Virgo (10:15 am), the cosmic energy/atmosphere around us likely becomes more manageable.

Couldn’t let this day pass without mentioning that December 23rd is the 37th anniversary of television’s, The Young and The Restless, which debuted back in 1973, and is still going strong.
Today, we’re also checking out some of the cosmic energy of that day, to see why maybe that show has endured for so long. And why it was perhaps able to “hook us” in the first place.
Mackenzie: “What does this mean – “wedding vows”‘?

J.T.: “What, you didn’t think Bobby knew how to read or write?”

On December 23, 1973, when The Young and The Restless debuted, Venus, the mythological “Goddess of Love,” was exactly sextile “Fantasy” Neptune, the planet which also rules the television camera. Venus was in friendly, freedom-loving Aquarius. Aquarius is also a sign known for broadcasting and technology. Neptune was in wanderlust Sagittarius, a sign that is additionally very good at spinning imaginative tales and story lines. (The emotional Moon was also in “alibi” Sag that day.) The sextile is normally regarded as a more harmonious aspect of “opportunity.”
Venus-Neptune aspects tend to coincide with a mindset in which we are much more willing, and really wanting, to believe in “fairy tales” (escapist soap opera plots). We are also more inclined to want to search out an “ideal love.” No matter that the object of our desires may be “imaginary,” or otherwise “off limits” to us. Perhaps a hunky character on a soap opera?
Most of us have had imaginary lovers, at some point, in our lives. Wild fantasies about persons “unavailable” to us? George Clooney, of course, immediately comes to mind here. However, we existentially do know, in this particular case, that this “Clooney pipe dream,” may actually some day still come to pass. It could be that it just takes many more earthly incarnations to materialize. But, it’s okay. We have the time. Rome wasn’t built overnight. Great things take time and careful planning. And, sometimes, a lot of fervent prayer. Along with daily visualization, meditation, and fasting. Occasionally we have to strike back-alley deals, too, with questionable saints, in order to get our needs met. (Would you believe, Neptune also rules saints and gurus, priestly-type figures? This is true.)
That is how Venus-Neptune tends to operate. It seldom ever “surrenders the dream.” Rarely quits on the “romantic illusion.” It will go to unbelievable measures to secure or retain its fantasy. Interesting to note here that Neptune also rules our “addictions.” Neptune, coincidentally, additionally depicts “real-life people” who are employed as actors, or other persons professionally engaged in careers that stoke our imagination, such as poets, dancers, and artists. So, we had more of a proclivity to “fall for” the “make-believe” characters in the show, with the program debuting when it did.
Neptune is also our magical “link to the divine” and whispers to us of having a “divine compassion” for all. Venus-Neptune can be highly compassionate. But, on the flip side, there is also the proclivity to “play martyr or victim.” Elements, too, that work very well in television-based soap operas.
Too, love maven Venus was in a tight harmonious trine to transforming, controlling Pluto in Libra when this show premiered. With Venus-Pluto, we usually fully experience all the highs and lows of romantic drama. The compulsiveness, the obsessions, the deepest of passions. Venus was also applying to a conjunction with expander Jupiter in Aquarius, considered to be one of the most romantic and fortuitous aspects of all, as Jupiter grows whatever it is paired with and aligned with romantic Venus, our love and affection knows no bounds. The Young and The Restless characters will also never run out of people to have “real or imagined” affairs with.
Lastly, Virile Mars, ruling sex and our physical desires, was also deposited in impetuous Aries ( the sign that it rules) at 29 degrees, the very last degree of the sign. Making the young, “very restless.” And, ever more reason to watch them on TV.
