“No one has a problem with the first mile of a journey. Even an infant could do fine for a while. But it isn’t the start that matters. It’s the finish line.” Julien Smith

COSMIC WATCH:

Generally speaking, do you think we’re more wired for starting things, or for finishing things? It seems from my personal observation, at least, that most of us get quite excited about beginning something new, especially when it’s something that we’re really looking forward to. But, once the newness of the endeavor wears off – as it inevitably will – completing what we’ve started can quickly become an almost Herculean-sized task for us, in many instances. However, does it necessarily have to be this way, all the time? Or, maybe even, part of the time?  Probably, not. At least I would like to think that this is, indeed, the case, as the other reality or scenario seems far too draining, way too rigid or limiting.

Of course, in the end, it may all very well depend upon our own individual frame of mind about a matter, as well as our initial reason or motivation for undertaking a particular activity in the first place. I also think that it can appreciably help out our cause if we’re able to keep our end goal firmly in mind, for the entire duration of an activity, with that single-minded focus acting as a powerful glue that seals all our efforts together until we reach the finish line.

For instance, I’m trying to lower my cholesterol, so each morning I have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, which has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels in the body (I’ve also had good success with this strategy in the past). There are some mornings, of course, when I’m tempted to “fall off the wagon” and maybe have a sausage biscuit or a bagel with cream cheese, especially when I’m out and about. But, most of the time I’m able to pass these things up simply by keeping my attention on my objective for eating the oatmeal, in the first place: to have a lower cholesterol reading when I have my annual physical checkup, next August.

I’m mentioning all of this to you, today, because the Moon is now “void-of-course” in “pioneering” Aries, a time period when the traditional astrological wisdom would suggest is ideal for staying the course, tying up loose ends, finishing what we’ve started – versus initiating anything new. Then, once the Moon enters “practical” Taurus, later this evening (7:28 pm EST), it will have completed its V-O-C phase, and we then have the green light again to move forward with new endeavors.

It may also be kind of fun to casually observe ourselves, today, as we’re completing our projects, to see what’s coming up for us in the process. See what’s taking place with our energy levels. Are they going up, or down, as we finish things off? I have a sneaking suspicion that our energy levels will likely rise because we’re feeling a sense of accomplishment by bringing matters to a completion. Unfinished tasks, whether we’re aware of it or not, tend to weigh us down, or rob of us our energy, suggesting to me that completing things is really in our best interests, from a survival standpoint, because it’s a way for us to maximize or preserve our physical life force. Maybe that’s also why many of us feel guilty when we don’t finish things – we intuitively know that we’re sabotaging ourselves and putting our life force potentially at risk.

With that said, we probably don’t need to complete every single thing that we start – as that could very well be counterproductive, and highly impractical – as in the case of not wanting to finish something because we no longer have interest in it, or it no longer serves a worthy purpose for us. But things that are key to us, we should really make an effort to complete. Too, this not only helps us to live in integrity with ourselves, it also signals to our subconscious that we’re able to follow through with things, which is an important element if we’re asking the Universe to supply us with more abundance or prosperity, or better health, etc. in our lives. If we show the Powers That Be that we can be effective stewards of our resources, and wise in the allocation of our time and talent, it would seem that we would have a greater likelihood of having positive things flow to us, as there would be less resistance in our energy field to stem the flow of the incoming good.

Getting back to the astrology: We still also have the playful, romantic, highly creative “Venus-Mars” conjunction in effect, in Aries, which was exact, early this morning, so we may definitely want to save some time for pleasurable or fun pursuits, as well, today. This is a great influence for socializing, parties, shopping, fashion, or taking in the arts. Also, a perfect backdrop for the Oscars in Hollywood, tonight. This Venus-Mars influence actually sort of lingers around until mid-March, as these two planet will be staying in fairly close range with each other, until then. We may also want to check to see what house in our personal charts this configuration is occurring in as that will be the area in our lives where conditions may be easing a bit, or where we may be seeing new opportunities for expressing our passion, or for enlisting the cooperation and support of others, as Mars-Venus energy can help us in strengthening our power of attraction for whatever it is that we desire. It can also help us connect more effortlessly with other people.

Question for Today:  What do you think would be a real “game-changer” for you to complete or finish?

“I may be going nowhere, but what a ride.” Shaun Hick

COSMIC WATCH:

Love

Relationship Venus races into “spontaneous” Aries, today, following the lead set by action-oriented Mars, yesterday. The emotional Moon also hooks up with this energetic, dynamic duo in Aries, later this evening. Ideally, this supercharged lineup inspires us to seek out newness, freshness in our lives now, perhaps in some marvelous, impromptu way, with Aries the official sign of new beginnings. How we individually decide to go about this, of course, is entirely up to us. It may also depend on how eager we are for things to be different, or changed around us.

Too, it could be that Venus in Aries primes us to be more direct or assertive in our relationships, for the next few weeks. More willing to take chances with our pulsating, tender heart, which might simply translate into our being more flirty, more daring to make the first move with someone we’ve perhaps just met. That kind of forward behavior, in itself, can also be akin to an act of courage for some of us not accustomed to acting in such an outgoing manner. Or, for those of us in existing relationships, we may want to do something out of the ordinary, that will basically spice them up a bit. Of course, I’m sure we all have our own cache of intriguing ideas on how this could all ravenously play out!

Venus in Aries is also equated with the concept of self-love, which, at its finest, allows us to care for our self as we would a good friend, with unconditional support and only the noblest of intentions for their welfare. Even in the Bible, with the ten commandments, we are commanded to “love your neighbor as yourself.” Done right, self-love can be a powerful game-changer, in the best possible way.

One more thing, on the general topic of Aries. I think that there’s always been something very alluring, very appealing to us about living life in the fast lane (i.e. the “Aries” lane). Maybe it’s something primal inside of us that craves, gets rejuvenated, by the notion of speed, movement. The flirt with danger. I also think that we all share a common fear or worry of coming to the end of our lives and regretting that we did not take enough risks or chances with them, even though intuitively we may have known all along, or at least have strongly suspected, that we were made or wired for greatness, which normally precludes an ample amount of risk-taking on our part. The stellium in “self-made” Aries now is a good time to nudge ourselves forward, along that risk continuum. We also need to pay really close attention to what comes up for us in the process. Too, what I often find most interesting about moving beyond our comfort zone is that things often don’t pan out quite the way that we thought they would in our head, especially regarding the scary things that we thought might happen to us, if we took certain actions. It seems that a lot of our fears are in vain, and a real drain on our brain. The super cool thing about Aries energy, though, is that it challenges us to go eye to eye with whatever is holding us down. And that challenge intrigues us, although at the same time, it may be equally as daunting. Part of the paradox of life, I guess. 🙂

“Motivation is the fuel, necessary to keep the human engine running.” Zig Ziglar

COSMIC WATCH:

Fire_planet 2

Mars, the energy planet, that inspires us to take action in the real world, enters “pioneering” Aries tonight (7:12 pm EST), the zodiacal sign that it rules, where it will stay until March 31st. Ideally, this placement will supply us with a full tank of “high-octane motivation,” in the coming days and weeks ahead, especially to tackle some of those highly personal projects that we may have had on the back burner, for a while now. Included here, might be a few of those endearing New Year’s resolutions – remember those? – that for, whatever reason, haven’t been allowed to gain much traction in our busy lives.

Also, Aries is the “sign of the self,” so the self-promotion, self-development, self-focus is perfectly acceptable and fully expected now, with Mars moving through this sector of the zodiac. One of my favorite quotes is by Wayne Dyer: “Don’t die with your music still inside you.” Too, unless we make the conscious effort to self-actualize – which Mars in Aries will be encouraging all of us to do now – no one else is going to do it for us. Getting our music “out into the world” is, and always has been, an inside job. And, if we’re lucky, we may catch a break or two, along the way.

Of course, too, it often takes a commitment of real physical energy – actual muscle and sweat – to bring our precious dreams and goals into manifestation, and with Mars holed up in watery, mutable Pisces, since mid-January, for some of us, that actual energetic component may have been sorely lacking, as of late. Mars in “transcendent” Pisces, though, hopefully has been great for nurturing our inner vision, or inner awareness, so now we readily know and recognize the work before us in the outer world that we have to do, must do, if we are going to cultivate and realize our life’s potential, or purpose.

Mars in Aries is, potentially, a grand opportunity for us to really develop and display our courage and leadership abilities. Symbolically, it can act as a strong ally for us in helping us to face down our fears or doubts. On an archetypal level, Mars in Aries awakens our inner “brigadier general,” challenging us to take full command of our lives and our destinies – as much as is humanly possible, of course. Granted, we don’t always hold “all the strings,” but we are in control of the choices that we make and, at the end of the day, that’s pretty heady stuff to command, don’t you think? Author Caroline Myss says “our thoughts and our attitudes” are our true power. Yet, so many of us fail to realize this, until it’s often too late.

Meanwhile, intellectual Mercury in “observational” Aquarius is also sextiling “wise old owl” Saturn, today, in “positive” Sagittarius. This influence is excellent for mentoring others, or for taking someone under our wing to encourage them. It’s also a good time to come up with practical solutions to our problems, culled, of course, from years of our impressive, voluminous experience in the school of hard knocks. 🙂 This aspect also favors concentration and attention to detail. Might also be a good time to look up old friends, or acquaintances.

Question for Today: If I had enough courage, my next step would be to (fill in the blank).

Astrology January 20, 2015: New Moon in Aquarius

astrology for january 20 2015, making changes, new moon in aquarius

“If you want something new, you have to stop doing something old.” Peter F. Drucker

COSMIC WATCH:

In theory, the idea of change can be very appealing to us. Especially the prospect of a fresh start. However, actually incorporating or implementing changes into our life, is where things can often get a bit tricky. That’s why behavioral experts normally suggest that we roll out lifestyle changes in small steps, over time. Kind of like sticking our toes in the water, before we go swimming; small steps can help us to get a real feel for the direction in which we’re heading, without causing us to initially experience all the overwhelm or pressure. Too, even with the small steps, though, experts say that we still need to be willing to tolerate a certain degree of discomfort, when it comes to making changes – like maybe giving up the daily chocolate bar, if we’re looking to fit into that bikini.

Today’s New Moon in “progressive” Aquarius, at 0 degrees (8:14 am EST), encourages us to set our monthly intentions around that big “C” word. Included here, we may want to think of ways that we can innovate, or express or ignite our originality and creativity. Also, because the brain loves questions, sometimes simply questioning the nature of things, can spawn new insights or possibilities, which can then pave the way for new beginnings, new methodologies, new practices, which can then also lead to a rough draft of a wonderful new you. For instance, I have personally gotten into the habit, before going to bed at night, of asking myself, “What have I learned today?” I have also found that, asking that one question, is a great way for me to “save my day,” in my memory bank, while also signalling to the subconscious that I value my life and daily experiences.

Because Aquarius also represents individual expression within the context of a group setting, or involvement with things that take us outside of our own personal sphere of interests, such as rallying for social causes, a New Moon here may serve to inspire us more towards activism, as well as, perhaps, giving us a desire to join clubs, civic groups, etc. Of course, we recently saw how the protest movement also picked up steam with Mars in Aquarius, a placement which can also makes us more psychologically comfortable with at least the idea of rebelling against the status quo, or the same ole, same ole. This lunation will likely build upon, or fortify, those efforts.

Today’s New Moon is also coinciding with the powerful Sun’s annual shift into “experimental” Aquarius, suggesting that there’s more of a potency about this lunation; perhaps, even more of a willingness to go out on a limb now, to tread the unknown. We may also have an intuitive sense that we’re really going to miss out on an adventure, if we don’t finally make the leap, with the Aquarian energy ratcheting up our inquisitive nature. A sextile from stabilizing Saturn in “futuristic” Sagittarius also supports us here and can help us approach change in a methodical manner.

“It’s impossible to be involved in all situations, but there’s no excuse not to be involved in something, somewhere, somehow, with someone. Make an ounce of difference.” Richelle E. Goodrich.

Question for Today: What is a change that is long overdue for you? Also, what do you think the delay has been about?

Famous January 20 Birthdays: George Burns, Buzz Aldrin, Bill Maher, Aristotle Onassis.

“Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city.” George Burns 🙂

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” Henry David Thoreau

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon’s shift into “ambitious” Capricorn (7:04 am) helps us align with our “inner executive.” We may feel more oriented towards practical achievement in the outer world, now, as Capricorn governs such things as career, status, and reputation. Yet, as Thoreau wisely reminds us, above, realizing our goals is but one piece of the puzzle; how we ultimately grow in self-awareness, or self-mastery, by attaining our goals is often what’s more important, in the long run. Of course, regrettably, it can be very easy in our busy, everyday life, to overlook this interior aspect of our success.

The Moon’s sextile to “energizing” Mars in Pisces (3:26 pm) can be a boon to our self-confidence, as well as serving as an impetus for taking action, or putting things into motion. This may also be a good time to rally behind, or encourage someone, who may be down on their luck.

The Moon’s sextile to “transcendent” Neptune in Pisces (4:52 pm) helps facilitate telepathic communication among us; also, soul-searching. Gives a desire to put our perceived differences aside in order to arrive at a mutual understanding. “Each person you meet is an aspect of yourself, clamoring for love.” Eric Michael Leventhal.

“Three things can not hide for long: the Moon, the Sun and the Truth.” Gautama Buddha

COSMIC WATCH:

Holly Leaves

This Christmas Day of 2014 finds “mental” Mercury conjunct “investigative” Pluto, allowing us the chance to deftly channel our “inner detective” to get to the bottom of things, if we so desire – although, we may also want to practice some measure of discretion with respect to how, when, and with whom we ultimately decide to share any of our findings. As most of us know: once we put something “out there,” it’s there for good. By the way, the Scottish writer, Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of “Sherlock Holmes,” had his natal Mercury in a tight conjunction with Pluto in Taurus in his “hidden” twelfth house. Michael Jackson was another person with this same planetary aspect, an influence which can also give us a “flair for the dramatic.”

Mercury-Pluto also tends to inject more passion (Pluto) into our communications (Mercury). With this alignment, we often become much more aware of how the “power of words” can radically shape or transform our lives. “Because even the smallest of words can be the ones to hurt you, or save you.” Natsuki Takaya.

The Moon is also in “bohemian” Aquarius, ideally encouraging us to embrace a spirit of diversity. “Christian, Jew, Muslim, shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the mystery, unique and not to be judged.” Rumi

Famous December 25 Birthdays: Jimmy Buffett, Humphrey Bogart, Annie Lenox, Clara Barton, Rod Serling

“This highway leads to the shadowy tip of reality: you’re on a through route to the land of the different, the bizarre, the unexplainable…Go as far as you like on this road. Its limits are only those of mind itself. Ladies and Gentlemen, you’re entering the wondrous dimension of imagination. . .Next stop: The Twilight Zone.” Rod Serling.

Merry Christmas, to all of you who celebrate this wondrous day. And, to everyone, everywhere, may the holidays be safe, warm, and happy, for you and yours.

astrology for december 10 2014, commitment, grand ole opry hits the airwaves for the first time, horoscope december 10 2014, professional networking, romance, status, venus enters capricorn december 10 2014

“Real love has little to do with falling. It’s a climb up the rocky face of a mountain, hard work, and most people are too selfish or too scared to bother.“ Stacey Jay

COSMIC WATCH:

Hearts In Nature

Venus, the goddess of love, shifts into “Saturn-ruled” Capricorn, today (11:42 am EST), a period when we’re more inclined to want to “get down to business,” with our relationships. Since Capricorn symbolizes time-honored traditions and conventional values, our relational mindset tends to become more mainstream and commitment-oriented, the next few weeks. We’re more realistic regarding our expectations for love, now; more willing to do the hard work that relationships require because we believe, in the end, that what we’re erecting is something that is more likely to endure or last, satisfying our Saturnian need for safety or security. Too, it could be that we’re ready to discard those relationships that are no longer meeting or serving our needs, or end ties with persons who are unwilling to take things to the next level, as Venus in Capricorn can be quite pragmatic and no-nonsense in her approach towards love and does not care to invest her time in anything that doesn’t appear to have a future.

Since Capricorn also governs career and business, Venus in Capricorn can be excellent for professional networking efforts, allowing us to capably turn on the charm, wherever and whenever it’s needed, including in the boardroom, where Venus in Capricorn often tends to particularly shine. There can also be a special fondness or respect for authority figures, or persons in positions of power. Professionally speaking, in general, Venus in Capricorn can be a time when our work or what we do for a living can potentially become more enjoyable or pleasurable for us. A time when we may “fall in love” with our career. If we’re unemployed, or maybe unsure of our “calling in life,” now might be a good time to get skills-tested to find out our strengths. Venus stays in Capricorn until January 3.

“To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.” Tony Robbins

COSMIC WATCH:

Full Moon

The last Full Moon of the year is occurring, today, in “communicative” Gemini at 14 degrees (7:27 am EST). Full Moons are a time of illumination and culmination, as well as a time of release. They also represent a period when we must find a way to balance or integrate opposing forces, such as, in the case of today’s Full Moon, balancing the philosophical side of our nature, depicted by the Sagittarius Sun, with the communicative aspect of our self, which is symbolized by the opposing Gemini Moon.

Also, to backtrack, two weeks ago, during the Sagittarius New Moon, seeds were planted to gain a wider perspective on our lives. Now, with this Full Moon, those seeds are coming to fruition and we are beginning to incorporate or thread that new awareness into our daily life via our interactions with the world (Gemini).

The Full Moon in “Mercury-ruled” Gemini can be viewed as a “networking” Moon, in some ways. It is about expanding our scope of influence in the world through our connections.  Ideally, it is also priming us on how to mingle with others we may not normally associate with. Too, in this process of interacting, we’re also learning to become more socially adaptable, as well as becoming more aware of how we each have our own unique take on things. “The secret of many a man’s success in the world resides in his insight into the moods of men and his tact in dealing with them.” J. G. Holland

Question for Today: Why do you think some people struggle with openly sharing their beliefs with others?

Famous December 6 Birthdays: Agnes Moorehead, Dave Brubeck, Andrew Cuomo, Wally Cox

“It’s an unavoidable truth. Fear of life closes off more opportunities for us than fear of death ever does.” Agnes Moorehead.

Happy Full Moon Blessings to you!

Astrology December 5, 2014: Mercury Trine Uranus, Mars Quintile Uranus

“I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center.” Kurt Vonnegut

COSMIC WATCH:

Two Planets

Coming on the heels of yesterday’s “empowering” Sun trine Uranus, today we have “intellectual” Mercury trining Uranus, in “pioneering” Aries (10:44 pm EST), as both the Sun and Mercury are pretty much moving in tandem through “futuristic” Sadge, at the moment. In general, Mercury-Uranus aspects help to “speed up” our thought processes. They can also activate our Uranus-ruled intuition spawning exhilarating “aha moments.” Uranus, the planet of change and innovation, is regarded as the “higher octave” or “higher expression” of Mercury, which represents our thoughts, ideas, and communication. Uranus is also linked with genius or brilliance, originality, and what could be characterized as more “radical-type” perceptions.

Needless to say, today is an excellent time to consciously “stretch our mental horizons,” which we could attempt to do in a myriad of ways, such as, perhaps, reading or immersing ourselves in the works of great writers, thought leaders, scientists, philosophers, etc. It’s also a perfect period for brainstorming, or for “out of the box” problem-solving. Too, Mercury-Uranus can serve to align our thinking with ideas or gleanings about what is “best for the collective,” or “society as a whole,” as Uranus, the ruler of “group-oriented” Aquarius, poises us to naturally think of the broader impact of things, and not just about ourselves.

This is also the first full day of Mars in “experimental” Aquarius. Mars is also involved in a creative “quintile aspect” with Uranus, seemingly making, today, even more “cutting edge,” in many ways. Quite fittingly, the first test flight of NASA’s Orion spacecraft launched successfully, this morning, from Florida’s Cape Canaveral. While today’s “unmanned” flight reportedly carried a cookie from Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster, future launches are expected to carry people to asteroids, the Moon, and hopefully – even to Mars – if all goes as planned. Pretty exciting – and all very Uranian-sounding! When man first landed on the Moon, “fortuitous” Jupiter was exactly conjunct Uranus at 0 degrees of Libra. Mars was also sextiling this conjunction from 2 degrees of “travel-related” Sagittarius. The signs Sagittarius and Aquarius are both related to space travel.

Question for Today: If you could swap places with any of the great figures in history, for a day, who would you select?
