“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” Henry David Thoreau

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon’s shift into “ambitious” Capricorn (7:04 am) helps us align with our “inner executive.” We may feel more oriented towards practical achievement in the outer world, now, as Capricorn governs such things as career, status, and reputation. Yet, as Thoreau wisely reminds us, above, realizing our goals is but one piece of the puzzle; how we ultimately grow in self-awareness, or self-mastery, by attaining our goals is often what’s more important, in the long run. Of course, regrettably, it can be very easy in our busy, everyday life, to overlook this interior aspect of our success.

The Moon’s sextile to “energizing” Mars in Pisces (3:26 pm) can be a boon to our self-confidence, as well as serving as an impetus for taking action, or putting things into motion. This may also be a good time to rally behind, or encourage someone, who may be down on their luck.

The Moon’s sextile to “transcendent” Neptune in Pisces (4:52 pm) helps facilitate telepathic communication among us; also, soul-searching. Gives a desire to put our perceived differences aside in order to arrive at a mutual understanding. “Each person you meet is an aspect of yourself, clamoring for love.” Eric Michael Leventhal.

“There is something divine, mystical, magical and unexplainable in the universe that is listening and responding to each of us.” Bryant McGill

COSMIC WATCH:

Sky

The “worldly” Capricorn Sun sextiles “mystical” Neptune in Pisces. A day when our external “climb to the top” is tenderly re-routed to an internal “trek within.“ The business executive goes on a retreat to an ashram. The Moon’s passage through Neptune-ruled Pisces also accentuates the desire for “oneness” with all that exists, with Neptune symbolizing the dissolving of boundaries and conscious reunion with formless Source Energy.

With “visionary” Neptune also governing our imagination, this is an excellent time for putting our attention on all manner of creative endeavors. The artist within us is knocking on the door now, itching to come out and apply some bold or whimsical brushstrokes to our life’s canvas. “Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties.” Erich Fromm

“Three things can not hide for long: the Moon, the Sun and the Truth.” Gautama Buddha

COSMIC WATCH:

Holly Leaves

This Christmas Day of 2014 finds “mental” Mercury conjunct “investigative” Pluto, allowing us the chance to deftly channel our “inner detective” to get to the bottom of things, if we so desire – although, we may also want to practice some measure of discretion with respect to how, when, and with whom we ultimately decide to share any of our findings. As most of us know: once we put something “out there,” it’s there for good. By the way, the Scottish writer, Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of “Sherlock Holmes,” had his natal Mercury in a tight conjunction with Pluto in Taurus in his “hidden” twelfth house. Michael Jackson was another person with this same planetary aspect, an influence which can also give us a “flair for the dramatic.”

Mercury-Pluto also tends to inject more passion (Pluto) into our communications (Mercury). With this alignment, we often become much more aware of how the “power of words” can radically shape or transform our lives. “Because even the smallest of words can be the ones to hurt you, or save you.” Natsuki Takaya.

The Moon is also in “bohemian” Aquarius, ideally encouraging us to embrace a spirit of diversity. “Christian, Jew, Muslim, shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the mystery, unique and not to be judged.” Rumi

Famous December 25 Birthdays: Jimmy Buffett, Humphrey Bogart, Annie Lenox, Clara Barton, Rod Serling

“This highway leads to the shadowy tip of reality: you’re on a through route to the land of the different, the bizarre, the unexplainable…Go as far as you like on this road. Its limits are only those of mind itself. Ladies and Gentlemen, you’re entering the wondrous dimension of imagination. . .Next stop: The Twilight Zone.” Rod Serling.

Merry Christmas, to all of you who celebrate this wondrous day. And, to everyone, everywhere, may the holidays be safe, warm, and happy, for you and yours.

“Real love has little to do with falling. It’s a climb up the rocky face of a mountain, hard work, and most people are too selfish or too scared to bother.“ Stacey Jay

COSMIC WATCH:

Hearts In Nature

Venus, the goddess of love, shifts into “Saturn-ruled” Capricorn, today (11:42 am EST), a period when we’re more inclined to want to “get down to business,” with our relationships. Since Capricorn symbolizes time-honored traditions and conventional values, our relational mindset tends to become more mainstream and commitment-oriented, the next few weeks. We’re more realistic regarding our expectations for love, now; more willing to do the hard work that relationships require because we believe, in the end, that what we’re erecting is something that is more likely to endure or last, satisfying our Saturnian need for safety or security. Too, it could be that we’re ready to discard those relationships that are no longer meeting or serving our needs, or end ties with persons who are unwilling to take things to the next level, as Venus in Capricorn can be quite pragmatic and no-nonsense in her approach towards love and does not care to invest her time in anything that doesn’t appear to have a future.

Since Capricorn also governs career and business, Venus in Capricorn can be excellent for professional networking efforts, allowing us to capably turn on the charm, wherever and whenever it’s needed, including in the boardroom, where Venus in Capricorn often tends to particularly shine. There can also be a special fondness or respect for authority figures, or persons in positions of power. Professionally speaking, in general, Venus in Capricorn can be a time when our work or what we do for a living can potentially become more enjoyable or pleasurable for us. A time when we may “fall in love” with our career. If we’re unemployed, or maybe unsure of our “calling in life,” now might be a good time to get skills-tested to find out our strengths. Venus stays in Capricorn until January 3.

“To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.” Tony Robbins

COSMIC WATCH:

The last Full Moon of the year is occurring today in “communicative” Gemini at 14 degrees (7:27 am EST). Full Moons are a time of illumination and culmination, as well as a time of release. They also represent a period when we must find a way to balance or integrate opposing forces, such as, in the case of today’s Full Moon, balancing the philosophical side of our nature, depicted by the Sagittarius Sun, with the communicative aspect of our self, which is symbolized by the opposing Gemini Moon.

Also, to backtrack, two weeks ago, during the Sagittarius New Moon, seeds were planted to gain a wider perspective on our lives. Now, with this Full Moon, those seeds are coming to fruition, and we are beginning to incorporate or thread that new awareness into our daily life via our interactions with the world (Gemini).

The Full Moon in Mercury-ruled Gemini can be viewed as a networking Moon, in some ways, as it is often about expanding our scope of influence in the world through our connections.  Ideally, it is also priming us on how to mingle with persons we may not normally associate with. Too, in this process of interacting, we’re also potentially learning to become more socially adaptable, as well as becoming more aware of how we each have our own unique take or spin on things.

“The secret of many a man’s success in the world resides in his insight into the moods of men and his tact in dealing with them.” J. G. Holland

Astrology December 5, 2014: Mercury Trine Uranus, Mars Quintile Uranus

“I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can’t see from the center.” Kurt Vonnegut

COSMIC WATCH:

Coming on the heels of yesterday’s “empowering” Sun trine Uranus, today we have “intellectual” Mercury trining Uranus, in “pioneering” Aries (10:44 pm EST), as both the Sun and Mercury are pretty much moving in tandem through “futuristic” Sadge, at the moment. In general, Mercury-Uranus aspects help to “speed up” our thought processes. They can also activate our Uranus-ruled intuition spawning exhilarating “aha moments.” Uranus, the planet of change and innovation, is regarded as the “higher octave” or “higher expression” of Mercury, which represents our thoughts, ideas, and communication. Uranus is also linked with genius or brilliance, originality, and what could be characterized as more “radical-type” perceptions.

Needless to say, today is an excellent time to consciously “stretch our mental horizons,” which we could attempt to do in a myriad of ways, such as, perhaps, reading or immersing ourselves in the works of great writers, thought leaders, scientists, philosophers, etc. It’s also a perfect period for brainstorming, or for “out of the box” problem-solving. Too, Mercury-Uranus can serve to align our thinking with ideas or gleanings about what is “best for the collective,” or “society as a whole,” as Uranus, the ruler of “group-oriented” Aquarius, poises us to naturally think of the broader impact of things, and not just about ourselves.

This is also the first full day of Mars in “experimental” Aquarius. Mars is also involved in a creative “quintile aspect” with Uranus, seemingly making, today, even more “cutting edge,” in many ways. Quite fittingly, the first test flight of NASA’s Orion spacecraft launched successfully, this morning, from Florida’s Cape Canaveral. While today’s “unmanned” flight reportedly carried a cookie from Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster, future launches are expected to carry people to asteroids, the Moon, and hopefully – even to Mars – if all goes as planned. Pretty exciting – and all very Uranian-sounding! When man first landed on the Moon, “fortuitous” Jupiter was exactly conjunct Uranus at 0 degrees of Libra. Mars was also sextiling this conjunction from 2 degrees of “travel-related” Sagittarius. The signs Sagittarius and Aquarius are both related to space travel.

Question for Today: If you could swap places with any of the great figures in history, for a day, who would you select?

astrology for december 4 2014, breakthroughs, change, horoscope december 4 2014, mars enters aquarius, reform, uranus square pluto

“A key ingredient in innovation is the ability to challenge authority and break rules.” Vivek Wadhwa

COSMIC WATCH:

There’s a major shift in energy, today, as Mars, the planet of action and desire (also symbolizing the military, sports, and law enforcement) moves into “innovative” Aquarius (6:57 pm EST), the Water Bearer, where it will stay until January 12. Aquarius, a fixed, air sign, is ruled by “radical” Uranus, the planet that’s associated with genius, change, technology, and the unexpected. Those born under the sign of Aquarius tend to enthusiastically embrace the “road less traveled.” They may also have more of an interest in humanitarian, political, or social causes, and may seek to make the world a better place by deliberately questioning or challenging the established order of things. They’re also usually brimming over with new or original ideas for supplanting or replacing the existing status quo.

Accordingly, Mars transiting Aquarius, for the next few weeks, sets into play a possible scenario in which we’re more receptive to experimentation, or more comfortable departing from the “tried and true,” conventional approaches when it comes to pursuing our goals, or whatever it is that we want for ourselves. Mars in Aquarius is also excellent for helping us actually develop more “out-of-the-box” strategies for dealing with our lives, or the situations that we find ourselves in, as Aquarius is an intellectual air sign that tends to have more of an affinity for abstract reasoning, or detached thinking. Aquarius is also, perhaps, the best sign placement for Mars for seeding sudden, pivotal breakthroughs in things.

Too, Mars in Aquarius can incline some of us to want to take a more active stance on some of the larger social issues circulating around the collective, now, particularly, perhaps, those issues pertaining to the preservation or enhancement of individual rights or freedoms, and matters involving equality or diversity, which Uranus represents. Aquarius also specifically symbolizes individual expression within the context of a group setting. Also, even those of us who choose not to become outwardly involved in any causes, now, will likely find that we at least have a growing awareness of some of the dynamics, or root causes, that are fueling or fomenting these issues.

Of course, around the world, we have seen an escalation in protest movements, globally, ever since Uranus and Pluto first started squaring off with each other, over two years ago, something that also happened back in the 1960s in the U.S. when these two planets were also conjunct. Too, this month, around mid-December, the Uranus and Pluto square will be exact again, for a sixth time – although, we’re already, essentially, feeling the energy of that square. Additionally, Uranus is going to be stationing direct, on the 20th of December. At that same time, Mars in Aquarius will be exactly sextiling Uranus! While I’ll be mentioning more on all of this, later, suffice it to say, in the interim, that the Uranus-Pluto energy is, once again, attuning us to what’s broken, decaying, or outworn around us, and also, perhaps, pointing the way as to what needs to possibly be erected in its place.

A shadow side of Mars entry in Aquarius is that it can make us a little more erratic, or uneven, in how we apply our energies. Mars here can also, sometimes, be a disruptive force in the sense that we may be too overeager to overturn things without first having a solid type of infrastructure in place. Also, on the shadow side, Mars in Aquarius can occasionally translate into our being more willful or stubborn, especially when we don’t get our way.

Also, today, the Sun in “adventurous” Sagittarius is rolling out a welcome mat for Mars entry into Aquarius in the guise of its trine to Uranus in Aries (5:30 pm EST), usually a type of day when we can really sense that “change is in the air.”

Famous People with Mars in Aquarius: Michelle Obama, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Leonardo da Vinci, Jay-Z, Charles de Gaulle, Adele, Queen Elizabeth II, Rainer Maria Rilke.

Question for Today: What is life, perhaps, asking you to do differently, now?

Famous December 4th Birthdays: Tyra Banks, Jeff Bridges, Francisco Franco, Dennis Wilson, Wink Martindale, Rainer Maria Rilke

“Most people come to know only one corner of their room, one spot near the window, one narrow strip on which they keep walking back and forth.” Rainer Maria Rilke.

astrology november 25 2014, concentration, horoscope november 25 2014, Mercury conjunct Saturn, solving problems

“If your mind carries a heavy burden of the past, you will experience more of the same. The past perpetuates itself through lack of presence. The quality of your consciousness at this moment is what shapes the future.” Eckhart Tolle

COSMIC WATCH:

Old Trees In Autumnal Forest

With “mental” Mercury conjunct “cautious” Saturn, today, there can be a tendency to dwell on “what’s not working” – or what could go wrong – instead of focusing on what’s going smoothly, or on the mend. Albert Einstein once said, “Problems cannot be solved with the same mindset that created them.” Meaning that if we’re going to fix or resolve things, we must first find a way to expand our consciousness.

Interestingly, Einstein, a Pisces Sun with a Sagittarian Moon, was born with his natal Mercury in a tight conjunction with Saturn in “pioneering” Aries. Mercury-Saturn aspects, on the plus side, can often confer great powers of concentration, or allow us to think very deeply about things, as it is the nature of Saturn to narrow or refine our focus.

Additionally, Mercury-Saturn can also make us more aware of our distinctness, or separateness, from others; Saturn energy is naturally associated with a desire to set boundaries around ourselves. Also, on the shadow side, we’re potentially more sensitive, now, to perceived hurts or slights from others. Choosing our words more carefully, today, so as not to unduly offend others, might be a very good idea. Also, if we can put in an encouraging word, if we’re around someone who’s down, that may also go a long way in helping to turn their day around. While Mercury-Saturn can often incline some of us to want to be alone, now, with our own thoughts, for others it can be a time when serious discussions are broached.

Mercury conjunct Saturn is an excellent period to work on projects that require attention to detail, or research. This influence can also be favorable for studying history, with Saturn ruling the past.

Question for Today: What problem in your life, now, may actually be a “gift in disguise?”

“Everything comes to us that belongs to us if we create the capacity to receive it.” Rabindranath Tagore

COSMIC WATCH:

With “energetic” Mars quinqunx “expansive” Jupiter, today, a rather galvanizing aspect, there’s a chance that we could get a little ahead of our game, now, and overestimate our capabilities, or take on more than we can successfully manage. However, if we also keep in mind the fact that “capacity” is something that is created gradually, over time – and not overnight – hopefully, this realization will help to mitigate the voice within that may be saying to us, now, that we must achieve, at all costs, even if doing so may be dishonoring who we really are at our core. Also, the Moon’s shift into “realistic” Capricorn (11:31am) can aid us in more fully gauging our true limits, or assessing what’s really needed or possible in a given situation.

“The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are.” Jim Morrison

Question for Today: What “superhuman strength” do you wish you possessed, and why?

In the News: It was announced, today, that US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel will be leaving his post, as soon as his successor is confirmed by the Senate. Various news outlets are also reporting that Hagel was “forced out by President Obama.” Hagel has “transforming” Pluto in “career” Capricorn exactly square to his natal Libra Sun, now, an aspect that is often linked with power struggles or clashes with superiors.

COSMIC WATCH:

A New Moon in “hopeful” Sagittarius, the sign of the archer (7:32 am EST), encourages us to go forward in the “direction of our dreams.” Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of optimism and growth. Too, because our individual aspirations are often shaped, in large part, by the personal beliefs that we hold – an area that Sagittarius also governs – now, is an excellent time to reflect upon the deeper constructs or origins of our beliefs, and how they may, or may not be, serving us. Psychologists say that many of us have core beliefs about ourselves that we’re totally unaware of.

It’s interesting, too, that even if we may believe that something is “out of our reach” for us, for whatever reason, simply by going in the direction of it, we immediately begin to give momentum to the matter. Rumi once said, “What you seek is seeking you.” Sort of like, what we aim for also has us in its bull’s-eye. All we need to do is keep the faith, stay the course, and eventually we’ll get together.

Since this lunation is forming a square to “elusive” Neptune, the planet of fantasy and deception, we also want to, ideally, make sure that, “whatever we’re in pursuit of,” now, is something that’s going to positively support us well, in the long-run; that this dream or desire ties in favorably with our core values and the long-term vision that we have for ourselves, and is not just a pipedream. Sometimes, a shadow side of Neptune is that we want to “glamorize” reality, instead of looking at it squarely in the face, and embracing it.

Too, with “thinker” Mercury squaring “grandiose” Jupiter, today, it’s a bit easier for us to get carried away with our thoughts and ideas, as well as to gloss over the details. Basketball Coach John Wooden, once, wisely noted, “It’s the little details (Saturn) that are vital. Little things make big things (Jupiter) happen.” A sentiment that we may want to keep in the forefront, now.

Whatever house that “zero degrees Sagittarius,” falls in our personal birth chart, is also the specific area of life that is being impacted or energized by this New Moon event. That’s also where we’ll want to move outside our comfort zone.

Question for Today: What would be a huge “leap of faith” for you to believe about yourself, and why?
