Cosmic Weather:

“Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It’s the transition that’s troublesome.” Isaac Asimov

Today, we may be feeling a bit like we’re entrenched in existential limbo, after yesterday’s Lunar Eclipse in Cancer and before tomorrow’s exact conjunction of Saturn and Pluto. It’s kind of like we’re still journeying our way through the tunnel but we still haven’t stumbled upon our first redemptive glimpse of the light. Although, at the same time, we do know in our rickety bones that we’re definitely inching closer! 🙂

Luna does undergo a dramatic costume change today, shifting from “I just want to be home alone with the Pillsbury Dough Boy” Cancer to “flash dancing” Leo (at 7:16 am). Too, shortly after it ingresses into the lion’s den, the Moon squares erratic, rebellious Uranus (11:43 am), which just stationed direct in “Dow Jones Industrial Average” Taurus yesterday. While this aspect may provide a wonderful chance to publicly display our moodiness or cantankerousness as well as allow us to cheerily toss our Bitcoins into the digital river, it may be best, with several planets still nestled in conservative Capricorn, to try and keep, as best we can, a stiff upper lip and our straitjacket tightly zipped up!

Fortunately, we will also have ample opportunity later, to boldly strut our stuff, when the Leo Moon trines, and wines and dines, courageous Mars presently locked away in ivory-tower Sagittarius (at 4:54 pm).

*All times EST.

Tarot Card For The Day: Once again, it’s the Hermit card, which I also pulled out of the deck, just yesterday. So, it appears, we’re still needing to keep that mighty pipeline open to the “Higher Powers That Be.” In other words, we’re still urged to go deep within, to seriously reflect on matters. Also, in the course of shuffling the cards, both the Death Card and the Nine of Swords fell out of the deck, suggesting yet again, a more serious time of transition. But, still, we should not give up hope for brighter days ahead, even though our present “tunnel-vision” may temporarily be impeding our capacity to see that possible reality.

Numerology: The number “Eleven” (1-11-2020) is equated with Mastery, intuitive powers, and faith.

Born On This Day: Psychologist and American philosopher, William James, in 1842 (d. 1910). James once wrote: “We are like islands in the sea, separate on the surface but connected in the deep.”

Hope it’s a good one!

Today’s Astrology June 8, 2019: Venus Enters Gemini

Cosmic Weather:

Waxing Moon is in Leo, shifting into Virgo at 5:44 pm

Moon squares Venus in Taurus at 5:23 pm

Venus Enters Gemini at 9:36 pm. Venus will stay in Gemini until July 3rd.

*All Times EDT

This Saturday, with the Waxing Moon in fun-loving Leo, during the day, and squaring indulgent Venus in Taurus, partaking in pleasurable activities now appears to be a good formula for racheting up our inner feelings of well-being. H. Jackson Brown, Jr., the author of Life’s Little Instruction Book advises that we should, “Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures.” To which the Leo Moon and Venus in Taurus might also add: “And don’t forget to bring along the checkbook!”

Later, the Moon’s shift into tidy Virgo (where it will stay for the next two and a half days), is a prime opportunity for us to become better organized, and a time when many of us will likely (albeit, perhaps reluctantly) trade in the (Leo) “big hair” for a “Brillo pad.” The Virgo Moon is also an excellent period for tinkering with things, perfecting our craft, as well as turning over our “honey-do” list to our partners for (keeping fingers crossed) rapid fulfillment.

Finally, sweet Venus flits into breezy, flirtatious Gemini, later tonight. Venus (governing love, money, values) is very lighthearted – maybe even a bit lightheaded, at times – in the dizzying air sign of Gemini, where variety in relationships, with recreational pastimes, art, beauty, fashion is definitely an elixir. Venus in Gemini’s emotions are on a more mental than feeling level; there is also often a need for friendship within a love relationship when Venus is deposited in this sign.

“A girl can wait for the right man to come along but in the meantime that doesn’t mean she can’t have a wonderful time with all the wrong ones.” Cher

(Born 5/20/46, Cher has her Venus at 25 degrees of Gemini and in a wide conjunction to unconventional Uranus in her behind-the-scenes, 12th House.)

Question for Today: How would you respond to Tina Turner’s “What’s love got to do with it?”

On This Day in History: On June 8, 1789, James Madison introduces a proposed Bill of Rights in the US House of Representatives.

The Astrology that day: There was a nearly exact Grand Air Trine involving the empowering Sun conjunct harmony-seeking Venus (in contractually-oriented Gemini), transforming Pluto (in humanitarian Aquarius), and unifying Neptune (in judicial, balancing Libra). The Moon was also in idealistic, philosophical Sagittarius and in its Full Phase.

Cosmic Weather:

“Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.” Rumi

Have you ever gone to that proverbial drawing board with the best of intentions to be creative or imaginative, and absolutely zilch happened? It’s like you suddenly morph into a zombie or something and you end up just sitting there, twiddling your thumbs. If you can even muster that much! What’s even worse is when you look all around you, and you see all these cool things created by other people! and you’re thinking to yourself, “Why in the world did I have to get stuck with such a lousy, god-awful imagination? Is it possible payback or retribution, perhaps, for an ancient karmic misdeed, or something? 🙂

Isn’t it also humbling and mind-boggling, too, when you step outside into nature and you see all this brilliantly choreographed magnificence and beauty everywhere? Or, you look into the heavens through a telescope, and it’s as if the complicated universe never stops unfolding! There is just so much amazing mystery and wonderment surrounding us, all the time, and yet many of us never really even think much about it because we are often so preoccupied with all the daily, mundane, personal stuff. Yet, we also have it so much better, in many ways, with respect to countless others who lived before us, in other time periods, who often had to struggle to just make it to age 30 or 40.

“The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” Sylvia Plath

And yet, regardless of everything, hope springs eternal for another glorious chance to possibly shine or dazzle, or to come into our own, in our optimal roles as co-creators with the universe! Or, so it seems, at least for today anyway, with sweet, artistic Venus, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, forming a lovely sextile aspect with compassionate Neptune, the official Kingpin of Imagination (3:45 am).  The Venus-Neptune hookup today also activating the ongoing, more long-term Saturn-Neptune sextile that has been in operation since the end of January and will continue in effect, on and off, for most of this year. This aspect between these two planetary heavyweights, Saturn and Neptune, is, theoretically, ideal for helping us turn our dreams, creativity, and visions (Neptune) into reality or tangible form (Saturn).

Enjoy your day!

“I am my own experiment. I am my own work of art.” Madonna

Today’s Astrology:

The Lunar Eclipse in self-expressive Leo the Lion (12:16 am) illuminates our urge to be creative, to shine in our own special way. With the Sun in opposing Aquarius we’re also seeking to integrate that uniqueness back into the collective in a bid to make the singular contribution that only we can make. With individualistic Uranus closely squaring the eclipse point, there’s also an increased desire for freedom from convention or cultural dictates. “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference (Uranus) that you have lived and lived well.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today, energizing Mars in pioneering Aries also encounters some formidable resistance resulting from its square aspect to taskmaster Saturn in Capricorn (6:16 am). Slowing down and approaching matters more carefully and thoroughly may be in the cards now, especially if we’re getting clear indications that something’s amiss. We also may need to simply disengage ourselves from some projects, for a while, and decide later, when we’re perhaps more inspired, what our next power moves should be.

*All times EST.

The last time that pioneering Mars in Aries squared Saturn in Capricorn, the sign of regulations and government, was back in July of 1990, forming an exact square on July 1st. On that very same day, East and West Germany merged their economies, a very historic event, as that was the first time ever that a capitalist and socialist economy had suddenly become one. Of course, since something like this had never happened before, it took a good while to get all the procedural kinks worked out. Kinda what you’d expect with the more challenging Mars-Saturn imprint.

Interestingly, China’s annual economic growth rate was reported today to be the slowest since 1990, or the last time that Saturn was in the sign of Capricorn. (Wall Street Journal)

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.” Rumi

COSMIC WATCH:

Sunflowers

As of this writing, Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” video – the Official Music Version” of it on YouTube – has received over 593 million views since its original publication date of November 21 2013! Amazing, isn’t it? While I’m no music or video critic, I like to think that one of the main reasons for the song’s epic popularity with the collective (apart from the superb video, itself, which was reportedly the “real catalyst” that launched the song into the stratosphere) is because both the lyrics and melody are something that seem to deeply resonate with nearly all of us on a ‘soul level.’ To paraphrase Rumi a bit: we can’t help but feel a river moving through us, a joy, when we listen to the upbeat words and rhythm of this masterful piece of work. Pharrell is also on record as saying that he thinks “all music is a gift from God.” While I’m not sure if I would make a blanket statement like that, on the topic, I do believe that “Happy” originated from some zenith location inhabited by the gods. Pharrell, by the way, is a “pioneering” Aries with his Sun in a tight, one-degree conjunction with “lovable” Venus, an influence that tends to make a person very likable. Also, often an artist, in some regard.

Too, it appears that the “happy” Leo Moon, today, is perhaps brilliantly plotting in her own stellar manner to give Pharrell a real run for his money now, by lighting up the sky above with a spectacular “Grand Fire Trine” involving Saturn, Mars, Venus, Uranus, and Jupiter. This is a highly creative configuration that potentially allows us to tap more effortlessly into our own river of ‘soulful resources,’ especially our reservoir of talent, or individual gifted-ness, with Leo being the sign of the entertainer, the producer.

This “invigorating” Grand Trine is also setting the stage for tomorrow morning’s exact, 120-degree alignment between “propitious” Jupiter in Leo and “unexpected” Uranus in Aries – an aspect often associated with “rare opportunities” suddenly descending upon our doorstep. “Let me tell ya. You gotta pay attention to signs. When life reaches out with a moment like this it’s a sin if you don’t reach back… I’m telling you.” Matthew Quick, The Silver Linings Playbook

*All times are EST

Question for Today: What self-originating activity, that when you perform it, produces the “feeling of flow” inside you?

Famous March 2 Birthdays: Jon Bon Jovi, Tom Wolfe, Jennifer Jones

“The world was simply and sheerly divided into ‘the aware’, those who had the experience of being vessels of the divine, and a great mass of ‘the unaware’, ‘the unmusical’, ‘the unattuned.” Tom Wolfe, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test

astrology for august 23 2014, health and dietary matters, horoscope august 23 2014, Moon in Leo, perfecting our craft, self-improvement, Sun enters Virgo

“If you’re any good at all, you know you can be better.” Lindsay Buckingham

COSMIC WATCH:

Motivational coach and speaker Tony Robbins says that one trait that all highly successful people have in common is that they’re always trying to “raise their standards” – always attempting to upgrade what they bring to their game. I’m mentioning this because, overnight, the Sun shifted into “fine-tuning” Virgo (12:46 am EDT), a sign naturally oriented toward matters of self-improvement / personal development.

As the Sun journeys through resourceful Virgo, for the next thirty days, this is the best time of the year to refine our methods, raise the bar, focus on health and dietary matters, and take our skills and abilities to the next level. An archetype often associated with the sign of Virgo is that of the “apprentice” perfecting his craft.

We also have “assertive” Mars quinqunx “experimental “ Uranus today, a rather awkward aspect that was exact, very early this morning (2:32 am EDT). Whereas the organizing Virgo Sun likes to have all of its ducks in a row, this Mars-Uranus combo of free-spirited energy tends to just want to “wing it.”

Too, even though the Sun exited “playful” Leo yesterday, the Moon is still camping out there and connecting with both “expansive” Jupiter (9:47 am EDT) and “romantic” Venus (10:01 pm EDT). Hopefully, a very pleasant backdrop for partaking in some fun or leisure activities, as we attempt to decompress from the work week. By the way, ancient Greek philosopher Plato, once conjectured, that we could probably discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation. I was thinking to myself that, perhaps, one reason that he said that was because, when we are at play, we are more apt to be spontaneous and more fully engaged in the moment; our editing or self-monitoring filters are less likely to be turned up, allowing for the revelation of more our true character and personality. It’s interesting, too, how many of us – myself included – have been conditioned, most of our lives, to believe that work is a more valuable activity than play; that play is something that is mainly to be engaged in, in our spare time – when we’re not working! I think now, though, more and more of us are finally realizing that’s not necessarily true. That while work is of value – play is, likely, of equal value.

Question for Today: What is a life you could be living?

“An effective leader allows exceptions to the rule for exceptional results or when circumstance demands.” John Wooten

(The Moon is in “self-confident” Leo today; it is square to “exacting” Saturn. The “empowering” Sun is quinqunx to “altering” Pluto.)

We should always be clear about what we want to achieve, but also willing to couple this clarity with a spirit of flexibility, in case conditions change. Too, when we demonstrate a willingness to bend, when needed, we are signaling to the universe that we are open to receiving further guidance or wisdom, and also acknowledging that we are humbly aware that we do not have all the answers.

Too, sometimes a path is only meant to be a starting point or launching pad for us, and not designed to take us all the way to our destination. When we accept this fact, and do not resist, we often are placed on a trajectory that is even better than the one that we had originally intended for ourselves.

What would be your best advice to someone who is facing a major change?

endorphins, George Bernard Shaw quote on aging, Moon in Leo, play, staying young

“We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” George Bernard Shaw

(The Moon is in “playful” Leo today encouraging us to embrace our fun-loving, inner child.)

As adults, many of us sense that we’ve got this whole “time management thing” wrong: We work too much and play too little and then wonder with great angst, at the end of the day, why it is that we feel so plum out of whack? Maybe the reason is largely because we’ve been taught to view work as virtuous behavior, while play is perceived as something less – a more frivolous pursuit that we mainly do on the side to unwind when we’re not busy counting beans at the office.

Studies have shown the value of playful activities not only for children, but also for grown-ups. One health benefit, for instance, from playing or having fun is that it stimulates the body’s release of endorphins, the “feel-good” chemicals. So maybe George Bernard Shaw was really onto something: Perhaps play is, indeed, the great miracle drug that we’ve all been searching for that can keep us forever young and a vibrant, energetic dance partner with life! And that it should also be put on equal par with work as something that we need to include in our daily life, especially as a way to help us stay creatively engaged in the moment.

What kind of work would be play to you?

COSMIC WATCH:

With the Moon in self-expressive and creative Leo, we have cosmic clearance to be authentically led by our heart today, who will be serving as our chief maestro or conductor for the day, should we decide to go down this liberating path. Having carte blanche over the music selection, and dictating how it should be played by the orchestra, could make for a pretty blissful day, especially if we have been feeling a bit stifled as of late.

Too, hopefully our sincere and earnest performance will inspire others to also make some beautiful music of their own, even if the halls or corridors surrounding them may have been conspicuously silent for a while. “There is no glory in star or blossom till looked upon by a loving eye; There is no fragrance in April breezes till breathed with joy as they wander by.” William C.
