Cosmic Weather:

Precise, logical Mercury in Virgo meets up with foggy, dissolving Neptune in Pisces today (3:18 am), the ruler of the fishy sea, and the planet of our imagination and phantom representations (or misrepresentations, including deception), so our thinking, reasoning, communications, and overall mental alertness may be a bit askew now. Or, significantly askew! – depending upon our own individual make-up, inclinations, or factory-type settings, and how we may choose to ride out this tricky, elusive, illusionary energy. (Mercury-Neptune is often associated with half-truths, missing or erroneous information.)

Suffice it to say, today may not be the best time for attending to the highly-detailed type of work and exacting calculations that Mercury in Virgo so inherently relishes; however, it is likely a very inspiring time to unleash the power of our own creativity and see how many dots we can, perhaps, lusciously disconnect. 🙂

It’s highly doubtful, though, that our brain stem and the rest of us will actually “float away” and vanish into thin air, this Saturday, as waxing, prescient Luna has already seemed to have adeptly planned for this cosmic event and has, thereby, chosen to deftly extricate herself from “adventurous” Sagittarius, for the remainder of the weekend, and instead, has securely deposited her sleek, form-fitting derriere into “doubting naysayer” Capricorn (6:37 am) where skepticism is king.

Favored activities today: Reading or writing fiction/poetry; acting, dancing, singing, painting, photography; water therapy/water massage; dream interpretation; studying mysticism or religion; developing our intuition; engaging in outlets that sensitize us to the feelings or needs of others or that allows us to show our compassionate side.

*All times EDT

Born on This Day: Grandma Moses (Anna Mary Robertson Moses) in 1860 in Greenwich, New York. An American folk artist, she began painting in earnest at the age of 78 and is often cited as an example of an individual who successfully began a career in the arts at an advanced age. She died in 1961 at 101. (Wikipedia)

In her birthchart, Moses had Mercury and Saturn almost exactly conjunct (one degree) in detail-oriented Virgo, which is typically excellent for deep yet highly pragmatic thinking as well as keen concentration or focus. She also had her artistic Venus in dynamic Leo and in a two-degree trine to imaginative Neptune Rx in the last degree of Pisces, suggesting a real, natural flow of artistic energy. Her Moon (emotions) was also in endlessly curious and youthful Gemini and conjunct progressive, inventive Uranus.

“If I hadn’t started painting, I would have raised chickens.” Grandma Moses

Hope it’s a good one!

Cosmic Weather:

We start out our Wednesday – the 205th day of the year – with Waning Luna (governing our feelings and emotions) wrapping up her stay in fast-acting Aries, perhaps generating more of a general restlessness within us and also more of a tendency towards impulsivity as we are more inclined now to directly act upon our emotions. (The Moon will be void from 10:47 am to 5:42 pm, at which time it will enter the sign of stabilizing Taurus.)

Communicator Mercury retrograde is also forming a conjunction with sweet, soothing Venus in sentimental Cancer (8:26 pm). This softening influence can not only make us wax poetic and perhaps kindle our romantic side as well, it can also find us revisiting and analyzing old relationships, old feelings, including reviewing elements of our familial or ancestral past. Articulating our feelings now may also be more important to us. Additionally, it may be a wonderful time to visit art galleries, take in concerts, redecorate our living quarters, as we potentially have more of an aptitude and appreciation for beauty now in all of its forms. Too, this conjunction nicely dovetails with today’s numerology, since it’s the 24th day of the month, which is also a Venus-ruled six-day.

The Moon also enters its Last Quarter Phase in practical Taurus tonight (9:17 pm), squaring the Sun in self-expressive Leo. (The Quarter Moon phase always suggests some crisis in consciousness is possible.) It could be that we need to reconcile now a need to be pragmatic with a desire to be creative. Perhaps discerning how to place or put a value or worth (Taurus) on our own creative instincts (Leo).

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” Maya Angelou

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On July 24, 1965, Bob Dylan (b. 5/24/41) releases the classic “Like A Rolling Stone.” Astrologically, that day, Mercury (words) and Venus (artistry) were conjunct in creative Leo (similar to what we have today with those same two planets conjunct in Cancer). The empowering Sun was also in dramatic Leo and sextile to the Waning Moon in articulate, clever Gemini. Dylan also had, in his own birth chart, transiting fortuitous (preacher-teacher) Jupiter in Gemini exactly conjunct his 7th house cusp (ruling the public) and trining his Libra Midheaven (career house).

Hope it’s a good one!

Cosmic Weather:

“Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.” Rumi

Have you ever gone to that proverbial drawing board with the best of intentions to be creative or imaginative, and absolutely zilch happened? It’s like you suddenly morph into a zombie or something and you end up just sitting there, twiddling your thumbs. If you can even muster that much! What’s even worse is when you look all around you, and you see all these cool things created by other people! and you’re thinking to yourself, “Why in the world did I have to get stuck with such a lousy, god-awful imagination? Is it possible payback or retribution, perhaps, for an ancient karmic misdeed, or something? 🙂

Isn’t it also humbling and mind-boggling, too, when you step outside into nature and you see all this brilliantly choreographed magnificence and beauty everywhere? Or, you look into the heavens through a telescope, and it’s as if the complicated universe never stops unfolding! There is just so much amazing mystery and wonderment surrounding us, all the time, and yet many of us never really even think much about it because we are often so preoccupied with all the daily, mundane, personal stuff. Yet, we also have it so much better, in many ways, with respect to countless others who lived before us, in other time periods, who often had to struggle to just make it to age 30 or 40.

“The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” Sylvia Plath

And yet, regardless of everything, hope springs eternal for another glorious chance to possibly shine or dazzle, or to come into our own, in our optimal roles as co-creators with the universe! Or, so it seems, at least for today anyway, with sweet, artistic Venus, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, forming a lovely sextile aspect with compassionate Neptune, the official Kingpin of Imagination (3:45 am).  The Venus-Neptune hookup today also activating the ongoing, more long-term Saturn-Neptune sextile that has been in operation since the end of January and will continue in effect, on and off, for most of this year. This aspect between these two planetary heavyweights, Saturn and Neptune, is, theoretically, ideal for helping us turn our dreams, creativity, and visions (Neptune) into reality or tangible form (Saturn).

Enjoy your day!

“I am my own experiment. I am my own work of art.” Madonna

Today’s Astrology:

The Lunar Eclipse in self-expressive Leo the Lion (12:16 am) illuminates our urge to be creative, to shine in our own special way. With the Sun in opposing Aquarius we’re also seeking to integrate that uniqueness back into the collective in a bid to make the singular contribution that only we can make. With individualistic Uranus closely squaring the eclipse point, there’s also an increased desire for freedom from convention or cultural dictates. “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference (Uranus) that you have lived and lived well.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today, energizing Mars in pioneering Aries also encounters some formidable resistance resulting from its square aspect to taskmaster Saturn in Capricorn (6:16 am). Slowing down and approaching matters more carefully and thoroughly may be in the cards now, especially if we’re getting clear indications that something’s amiss. We also may need to simply disengage ourselves from some projects, for a while, and decide later, when we’re perhaps more inspired, what our next power moves should be.

*All times EST.

The last time that pioneering Mars in Aries squared Saturn in Capricorn, the sign of regulations and government, was back in July of 1990, forming an exact square on July 1st. On that very same day, East and West Germany merged their economies, a very historic event, as that was the first time ever that a capitalist and socialist economy had suddenly become one. Of course, since something like this had never happened before, it took a good while to get all the procedural kinks worked out. Kinda what you’d expect with the more challenging Mars-Saturn imprint.

Interestingly, China’s annual economic growth rate was reported today to be the slowest since 1990, or the last time that Saturn was in the sign of Capricorn. (Wall Street Journal)

“The world of reality (Saturn) has its limits; the world of imagination (Neptune) is boundless.” Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Mercury, Saturn, Pluto, and the South Node are all ensconced in responsible Capricorn now. We also have the annual, intense Sun-Pluto conjunction, tomorrow. But all this doesn’t necessarily mean that we can’t put aside those early January “to-do lists” or whatever and take a breather to re-charge our body, mind, and spirit. With Luna streaming through dreamy, reflective, otherworldy Pisces, all day, it’s a perfect time to re-focus our energies on activities or outlets that enlist our imagination, dreams, creativity, as well as humanity. Too, as most of us know, when we stay focused on what’s in front of us, we keep getting more of the same. But when we dare to hang out in the boundless, endless sphere of our imagination, that’s where we really have the chance to thrive and create a brand new world or paradigm for ourselves. “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.” Kurt Vonnegut

Famous January 10 Birthdays: Rod Stewart, George Foreman, Pat Benatar, Jim Croce

“What I do now is all my dad’s fault, because he bought me a guitar, for no apparent reason.” Rod Stewart.

On This Date in History: On January 10, 1956 Elvis Presley records “Heartbreak Hotel”.

The transiting Sun in Capricorn was sextile to Elvis’ lucky Jupiter in Scorpio that day. Transiting Pluto was also in rock star Leo and trining innovative Uranus, in pioneering Aries, in Elvis’ 5th house of creative expression – a potent planetary aspect that helped to transform (Pluto) his world through the expression of his electrifying and unique talents and gifts (Uranus). He also had that latter, more long-term Pluto-Uranus aspect, at play, all through 1956, when he released a lot of other classics including “Love Me Tender” and “Hound Dog”.

Hope you have a very lovely, rejuvenating day. Dream big! All the way to the Pisces Moon.

Today’s Energy:

The Sun trining “transcendent” Neptune encourages us to want to connect to a power greater than ourselves. Sun-Neptune aspects can also be positive for helping to dissolve the differences between us as they tend to foster a greater recognition of our common humanity, our intrinsic oneness. Sun-Neptune energy also helps to subdue the needs and desires of the ego while, at the same time, sensitizing us to the needs or plights of others, especially those persons who are perhaps down on their luck. Neptune is linked with compassion, forgiveness, idealism and humility, as well as with visions, imagination, and creativity.

Often, too, with Neptune aspects we experience a spike in synchronistic occurrences. In her book, The Tao of Psychology, Dr. Jean Shinoden Bolen says that synchronistic events offer us perceptions that may be useful in our psychological and spiritual growth. “And they may reveal to us, through intuitive knowledge, that our lives have meaning.”

“There is something divine, mystical, magical and unexplainable in the universe that is listening and responding to each of us.” Bryant McGill

COSMIC WATCH:

Sky

The “worldly” Capricorn Sun sextiles “mystical” Neptune in Pisces. A day when our external “climb to the top” is tenderly re-routed to an internal “trek within.“ The business executive goes on a retreat to an ashram. The Moon’s passage through Neptune-ruled Pisces also accentuates the desire for “oneness” with all that exists, with Neptune symbolizing the dissolving of boundaries and conscious reunion with formless Source Energy.

With “visionary” Neptune also governing our imagination, this is an excellent time for putting our attention on all manner of creative endeavors. The artist within us is knocking on the door now, itching to come out and apply some bold or whimsical brushstrokes to our life’s canvas. “Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties.” Erich Fromm

Astrology August 9, 2012: Venus Trines Neptune

COSMIC WATCH:

“I keep my ideals, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are good at heart.” Anne Frank

Lovable Venus, in caring Cancer, is trining idealistic Neptune in Pisces today. With this dreamy influence, we tend to look for the best in others and are more compassionate. It is also an aspect traditionally associated with wanting a “fairy-tale romance.” Sometimes, too, it can happen with this influence. At the very least, it is easier to go “under the spell” of our beloved now, as Venus-Neptune can be very hypnotic.

Interestingly, Danish fairy-tale writer and poet, Hans Christian Anderson, was born with this aspect exact in his horoscope, with his Venus at 27 of Pisces and his Neptune at 27 of Scorpio.  Venus-Neptune is often synonymous with great talent and creativity. Many artists, writers, dancers, and other performers have this aspect in their charts. Venus represents beauty and art and Neptune, the higher octave of Venus, governs our imagination and vision. Poet e.e. cummings also had Venus trining Neptune: “Your slightest look easily will unclose me, though I have closed myself as fingers, you open petal by petal myself as Spring opens her first rose.”

We additionally have the practical, yet indulgent Taurus Moon in its Last Quarter phase, which favors wrapping up old business now versus starting anything new. The Moon also goes void-of-course at 2:55 pm EDT.  Too, with the Venus-Neptune trine we may want to focus on beautifying our surroundings today, with Venus deposited in home-related Cancer. This may also include purging or recycling what is no longer needed. De-weeding is another excellent activity for today, with the Moon in earthy Taurus and in its waning phase.

Famous People Born August 9: Melanie Griffith, Whitney Houston. BTW, Whitney Houston had her Venus in Leo at 11 degrees applying to an exact square to her Neptune in Scorpio at 12 degrees.

“When I heard Aretha, I could feel her emotional delivery so clearly. It came from deep within. That’s what I wanted to do.” Whitney Houston.

accountability, creativity, mercury goes direct in sagittarius december 13 2011, mercury stations direct in sagittarius december 2011, Moon in Cancer, Moon in Leo, Moon square Saturn, originality

COSMIC WATCH:

Our emotional outlook may be more serious, the first half of the day, with the sensitive Cancer Moon’s square to authoritative Saturn, in balancing Libra (11:06 am EST), an aspect in which we often face accountability for our actions. Since Moon-Saturn sometimes has a more limiting or inhibiting affect upon us, due to the narrowing vibration of Saturn, we may want to perhaps work on our breathing techniques with this influence. Or, use positive visualization as a way of helping us to stay fully centered and relaxed in the moment.

Later, the Moon’s entrance into proud, bold Leo the Lion (4:49 pm EST) sets the stage for us to really come alive and roar with creativity. Included here may be a tendency for some “over the top” behavior, as the Moon squares boastful Jupiter (5:57 pm EST) and also trines spontaneous, original Uranus (6:00 pm EST). Too, lovable Venus is making a favorable semi-sextile to the warming, life-giving Sun this afternoon (4:56 pm EST) encouraging us to make some heart-felt connections.

Finally, Mercury, the planet of communication and travel, is stationing direct at three degrees of inspired Sagittarius (8:43 pm EST) after a three-week retrograde period. This gives us the green light to start proceeding with our plans and ideas again after we have, hopefully, used the last twenty-one days for some pause and reflection. However, we will want to wait a couple days to allow Mercury to pick up some speed. (Mercury will be out of its shadow period on January 1, the degree that it originally assumed retrograde motion.) Too, we will want to pay attention to the house in our charts that Mercury is stationing direct in as that is the specific area of life in which we may see some forward momentum now.

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” Walt Disney

Today’s Affirmation:  I am at peace with my past and eager to journey onward.
