Astrology September 9, 2015: Mercury Square Pluto

Today’s Energy:

With “mental” Mercury squaring “controlling” Pluto – Lord of the Underworld – there’s a possibility that we could become handcuffed by our own thinking today, especially shackled in by our fears or suspicions. The upside here: we also have a great opportunity to face down our fears now – or whatever it is that might be making us anxious or worried, as Mercury-Pluto can also potentially be very transformative.

For example, this morning, I went out into my backyard and tidied up the inside of my storage shed, an activity that, on the surface, may seem quite routine, to the average person. But, in my case, I had been postponing it for ages because I had been genuinely afraid that, in doing so, I might be assaulted, or held captive, by bitter black widows, poisonous copperheads, or maybe even worse: herculean-sized field mice! Granted, these kinds of threatening scenarios have never even come close to happening to me before, in real life, but it’s only probably because I’ve never had the guts to clean out the shed, until now! 🙂

Anyway, I”m very proud to report here, that I’ve completed the cleanup and I’m still fully physically intact, as far as I can tell. And, in fact, I never even came across any of those scary, creepy, crawly “Plutonian” creatures at all, that I just knew were going to be in there; each one, no doubt, seriously lusting over taking a draconian bite out of my captive flesh! In retrospect, all that worry, was simply in vain, which often is the case with worry. At the same time, I feel better about myself now, since I was finally able to take the bull by the horns and triumph over my inner scaredy cat – at least for the time being. Plus, I now have a clean shed, a reality I had been contemplating for who knows how long. Also, for the sake of full disclosure, I probably need to fess up: I was born with Mercury exactly squaring my Pluto! Can you tell?

Questions for Today: What is it costing you to hold on to fears? What will be the best thing that happens to you when you are no longer afraid? What is the path to serenity in your life?

Astrology September 8, 2015: Unplugged – Mars Trine Uranus

Today’s Energy:

For some, the notion of self-preservation equates with keeping risk-taking at a minimum. While for others, the idea of taking risks, on an ongoing basis, is something generally viewed as a surefire way to keep more successfully engaged with the “river of life,” which by its very nature never stands still for very long – unless its flow is temporarily dammed up or obstructed by something in its path.

Today’s “Mars trine Uranus” aspect potentially raises all of our “risk-tolerance levels” a bit, as there can be an increased desire now, among many of us, to want to improve or move our lives forward in some stimulating, maybe even provocative manner. Also, there can be a stronger yearning for more personal freedom as well as less patience or tolerance for our routine or typical daily tasks. Because Uranus symbolizes change and innovation and Mars energizes whatever it comes into contact with, summoning up our inner “Thomas Edison” may also be more doable now. At the very least, today is an excellent time to get all of our options for our nifty little life, out on the table, including possibly considering some things that are uncharacteristic for us, as we just might discover, in the process, some fresh new possibilities with our name written all over them. Mars quinqunx Chiron today also encourages us to” feel the fear and do it anyway.”

Questions for Today: What is life asking you to do differently at this time? What new beliefs could shift your destiny for you?

Astrology September 6, 2015: Venus Stations Direct

“If we talk to anyone, or see anyone, or even think of anyone, then we have the opportunity to bring more love into the universe.” Marianne Williamson

Heart, Dove, Silhouette, Love, Luck

Venus, the planet of love, beauty, values, and money is stationing direct today in “royal” Leo after a six week retrograde (reflection) cycle. “Venus direct” is generally perceived to be a time when we have a clearer understanding of who we want and what we want in our lives. This may be especially the case as Venus starts picking up speed, in the next couple of weeks. Too, sometimes as Venus is stationing or “shifting gears” we are still sort of adjusting to things and may not be exactly sure how to proceed, which is why it may be best to defer any decision-making about relationships, major purchases, finances, etc. for at least a few days. Venus will also be in its ‘shadow phase’ until October 9 (or retracing the zodiac degrees that were originally part of the retro cycle).

The Last Quarter Moon also enters “maternal” Cancer, this afternoon (1:40 pm), tending to heighten our emotions and sensitivity to our environment. This is also a time when we may seek to replenish our spirit by surrounding ourselves with what is warm and familiar to us.

*All times EDT.

Astrology September 5, 2015: Last Quarter Moon Phase

“Focus your intention on what your building, not whats already fallen away.” Nikki Rowe

Moon, Dream, Fantasy, Surreal, Night

Today’s Energy:

The waning Gemini Moon enters its “Last Quarter Phase” at 5:54 am. The Last Quarter Moon period is a time when we may experience some inner conflict or crisis as we ponder what to hold on to and what to release as we prepare ourselves for the coming New Moon in “harvesting” Virgo, on September 13, which also happens to be a Solar Eclipse. Too, an apt analogy here might be to compare the Moon’s last quarter phase to a little like reviewing and re-balancing our 401-k or other investments: we are moving things around now in order to hopefully get the best bang for our buck (or return on our energetic investment). The Sun’s waning trine to “eliminating” Pluto  (7:08pm) should also help us to see more clearly where we may need to cut our losses, to forge ahead.

*All times EDT.

Astrology for September 4, 2015: Emergence (Sun Trines Pluto)

“Scared and sacred are spelled with the same letters. Awful proceeds from the same root word as awesome. Terrify and terrific. Every negative experience holds the seed of transformation.” Alan Cohen

Butterfly, Insect, Wing, Wildlife, Bug

Today’s Energy:

Rising from the ashes. Turning over a new leaf. Stepping into our own power. The potent and renewing “Sun trine Pluto” aspect – exact tomorrow at 7:08 pm, but already applying – may correlate with a manifestation of all or any of these type scenarios. It is generally regarded as an influence of “emergence,” after some form of struggle. Ideally representing a “flowering of consciousness” as the doors of our perceptions are suddenly opened wider and we are able to take in or witness more of the mysteries of the universe, and be somehow awakened or transformed in the process. We are deliberately seeking, at this time, what we hope will be a deeper or more meaningful connection to the people and world around us. Part of this connection may also be forged or felt through partaking in some manner of investigation or discovery, with Pluto symbolizing what is hidden or below the surface (Pluto also depicts our subconscious). Now with the illuminating Sun aligned with mysterious Pluto, what has been secret begins to rise to the surface for full preview. The Sun-Pluto trine influence will be around for the next two or three days.

The Sun-Pluto energy is also associated with expressing deeply-held convictions or emotions, sexual intimacy, surgical procedures, involvement with estate and will matters or legacy/ succession issues, purging, refurbishing / renovation projects, power struggles and coups d’états.

Interestingly, earlier this year, during the Sun’s first annual “waxing trine” to Pluto (May 5th – 7th), is when scientists announced the discovery of EGS-zs8-1, reportedly the oldest and most distant galaxy ever observed. Also, Archaeornithura meemannae, a new species of prehistoric bird that represents the oldest known member of the modern bird lineage, was discovered. Additionally, archeologists in Madagascar announced the partial discovery of Captain Kidd’s treasure. Too, the NFL reportedly found that two New England Patriots’ employees deliberately deflated footballs in a game against the Indianapolis Colts and that Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady was generally aware of the deflation. (May 2015 Wikipedia). Fascinatingly, on the heels of the present and waning “Sun trine Pluto” aspect (there are two Sun Pluto trines a year), a judge has just overturned the NFL’s four-game suspension of Tom Brady in Deflategate, with the NFL appealing the ruling.

Also, very fittingly, today has been billed “Force Friday” as hundreds of toys and other items pertaining to Star Wars: Episode VII –  The Force Awakens, go on sale, nearly four months before the movie even comes out! Disney launched the event with a massive “unboxing” (example of the unearthing Pluto energy) on YouTube. Many astrologers also refer to Pluto as the personification of “Darth Vader.”

Questions for Today: Where have you held yourself back? What are you really seeking in life? Where does your power come from?

Astrology September 3, 2015 – Some Fog Ahead (Mercury Quinqunx Neptune)

Tags

“It’s a lack of clarity that creates chaos and frustration. Those emotions are poison to any living goal.” Steve Maraboli

Sunrise, Foggy, Countryside, Morning

Today’s Energy:

While the Moon remains in “grounding” Taurus all day, intellectual Mercury is forming a quinqunx to “vague” Neptune. The challenge with this aspect is to strive to be as clear as possible in our thinking as we can, while conceding at the same time that we may not be in possession of all the information that we would like to have to craft our decisions. The phrase “on a wing and a prayer” comes to mind here. Mercury-Neptune is also specifically associated with “wishful thinking” due to the fantasy nature of Neptune.

Questions for Today: How do you differentiate between “positive thinking” and “wishful thinking?” In general, how comfortable are you at “winging it?” What do you typically do – what steps do you take – to gain greater clarity on matters?

Astrology for September 2, 2015: The Moon’s in Anchoring Taurus

Tags

, , , , , , ,

“Relax, let go, allow, and recognize that some of your desires are about how you think your world should be, rather than how it is in that moment. Become an astute observer…judge less and listen more. Take time to open your mind to the fascinating mystery and uncertainty that we all experience.” Wayne Dyer (May 10,1940 – August 29, 2015)

Today’s Energy:

The Moon’s shift into “anchoring” Taurus (5:02 am) helps us to see the wisdom in going at things at our own pace – particularly if that pace includes some time for partaking in pleasurable or leisure activities. Communing with nature can also be especially grounding and renewing for us now. “Is not a dew-drop on a blade of grass more beautiful than a pearl set in gold? Friedrich Max Muller. The Moon remains in Taurus until Friday morning (7:48 am).

The Moon trining “altruistic” Jupiter in “service-oriented Virgo” (1:01 pm) endows us with a sense of peace and goodwill toward others – especially if we’re operating from our nobler side. This is also excellent energy for dealing with people from other cultures or backgrounds, promoting women’s issues, or for making improvements in the home, including  any re-organizing or de-cluttering efforts. This might also be a good time to air out the house; let it breath and release trapped energies.

Moon sextile to “transcendent” Neptune in Pisces (6:54 pm) guides us to experience more of a sense of inner calmness or stillness. The worries of the day tend to drift away now like gentle waves receding along the shoreline. A wonderful time, perhaps, to dine by candlelight, be by water, or to take in a movie or play.

Moon trining the life-giving Sun in “productive” Virgo (10:06 pm) enhances our physical vitality and personal sense of power. Our energies are flowing now in a more unobstructed manner. If we’re so inclined, we may want to consider using this time period for tending to important work-related projects, career strategizing, or for business/ investment planning.

Interestingly, it was Aristotle who reportedly first coined the word ‘energy’ to express the concept of “vigor of expression.” He also believed “the energy of the mind is the essence of life.”

Astrology for July 31, 2015: A Full Moon in Aquarius

Tags

, , , , , , ,

“To find out what is truly individual in ourselves, profound reflection is needed; and suddenly we realize how uncommonly difficult the discovery of individuality is.” Carl Jung

Today’s Energy:

There is a Full Moon in “avant-garde” Aquarius (6:43 am). This particular Full Moon is also termed a “Blue Moon” because it is the second Full Moon in a calendar month. Venus, the Goddess of love, also retrogrades back into “self-expressive” Leo, today, where it joins Jupiter, Mercury, and the Sun.

Full Moons provide us with more light by which to see, both symbolically and literally, with today’s Full Moon in Aquarius serving to spotlight our “individuality” – or what it is that sets us apart from the crowd. It is a wonderful time for us to cast an eye upon our special talents or gifts (Sun in Leo), and figure out how we can harness them more fully to make the unique contribution to the collective that only we can make (Moon in Aquarius). As Carl Jung notes above, excavating what is truly individual in us is often a complex pursuit that requires serious attention on our part, as well as plenty of patience and commitment. Most assuredly, however, this process is always worthwhile, especially as we begin to behold glimpses of our “unique, original mold” and are able to increasingly lay claim to it, creatively bringing it to life, in all of its glory, for whatever purpose it – we – were originally intended, by the powers that be. Too, we can always know whether we are on track with our purpose by the sense of passion that we feel inside ourselves. The more intellectually detached Aquarius energy that is highlighted now is also naturally drawn to this kind of personal observation or discovery, as it imparts a flair for analysis and experimentation.

Since the sign of Aquarius also symbolizes an individual’s immersion into a group – ideally, for the betterment of all – this Full Moon in Aquarius can also be a time when we seek out a tribe or network that is a good match for our personal values and beliefs, or that lines up with the special causes that we espouse or care so dearly about. Of course, we all know, too, that we can do much more collectively than we can on our own, which is perhaps why we have been wired to be such social creatures. So much of nature, of which we are but a small part, works together in unison to leave its mark.

Social Venus is also retrograding back into “theatrical” Leo, today, affording us a special chance to dance solo, for a while, to what makes our heart sing. With Venus retrograde, we continue to focus our attention on improving the quality of the intimate relationship that we have with ourselves, including perhaps rediscovering our values or discerning what it is that brings us the most joy or pleasure. “When a woman becomes her own best friend life is easier.” Diane von Furstenberg.

Astrology for July 30, 2015: Moon Sextiles Saturn

Tags

, , , , , , ,

“It is not enough that we do our best; sometimes we must do what is required.” Winston Churchill

Today’s Energy:

The Moon is in “stay the course” Capricorn until 5:40 pm; it is void from 2:50 pm to 5:40 pm. At 5:40 pm, Luna enters “bohemian” Aquarius and is no longer in its void-of-course phase. The Moon will remain in Aquarius until early Saturday evening (6:36 pm).

As the Moon winds up her monthly stay in Capricorn, there may be a desire to complete important projects today, particularly as they pertain to our career or public life. The Moon’s sextile to “stabilizing” Saturn (2:50 pm) also works in a positive way to solidify our various efforts in these areas; it is an aspect associated with taking responsibility and doing what is required. The Irish poet W.B. Yeats once remarked, “In dreams begin responsibilities.” Or, to put it another way, responsibilities can be indications that our dreams are taking shape. Sometimes, too, we get so busy in our doing that we seem to forget that duties and dreams, go hand in hand; that there is always a price to pay for everything. Too, the trick is to find a way to maximize our joy, as we go about pursuing our long-term goals. The song “Whistle While You Work” from the Disney classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, comes to mind here.

We also may be experiencing a sense that something is building or cresting inside us of now, on the heels of tomorrow’s “illuminating” Full Moon in Aquarius. Full Moons represent a cycle of completion, a culmination. The intentions that we set at the Cancer New Moon, two weeks ago, are also beginning to come to fruition. Too, this is the second full moon this month, an occurrence referred to as a “Blue Moon.” Two Full Moons may occur in any month of the year except for February, which is shorter than the lunar cycle.

Astrology for July 29, 2015: Moon conjunct Pluto, Mercury Quincunx Pluto

“It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things.” – Leonardo Da Vinci

Today’s Energy:

The waxing Moon continues its journey through “ambitious” Capricorn. The Moon remains there through late Thursday afternoon (5:41 pm).

Luna’s monthly meetup with “insightful” Pluto (2:23 pm) may shine a spotlight on our deeper feelings, or hidden motivations. This is also thought to be excellent energy for purging, recycling, or refurbishing projects.

Sometimes, too, it ends up that we only discover our deepest needs or desires after we have managed to eliminate all the clutter or miscellany around us. Karen Kingston, author of Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui, says the desire to possess things comes directly from the ego. “Your spirit already knows you own nothing. It is a matter of realizing that your happiness does not depend on your ownership of things. They help you in your journey but they are not the journey itself.”

Intellectual Mercury is also quincunx Pluto today. This can possibly put more passion and intensity into our communications; however, we may need to watch out for becoming too obsessed with an idea.
