“You cannot solve a problem with the same level of consciousness that created it.” Carl Jung

COSMIC WATCH:

Assertive Mars, the planet of motivation and desire, has been in creative, self-expressive Leo, since late August, but today it shifts into problem-solving Virgo (7:05 am EDT), where it will stay until December 7. With Mars passing through logical, analytical Virgo we have wonderful energy to tap into for getting our affairs in proper order, over the next several weeks, as well as making significant progress and headway on tackling difficult issues that we have perhaps not wanted to face for a while. Mars in Virgo helps to strengthen our resolve and determination and can make us very disciplined and resourceful in carrying out our mundane tasks and responsibilities. It is also an excellent time to upgrade our skills and or focus on various self-improvement projects. Virgo also governs diet and health areas, so now might be a great time to commit to eating better or getting more exercise.

While Mars in authoritative Leo wants to run the show and craves ego recognition, Mars in Virgo is perfectly content to function behind the scenes as a humble worker bee, in proud service to others. “…talent means nothing, while experience, acquired in humility and with hard work, means everything.” Patrick Suskind

Famous Birthdays October 15: Lee Iacocca, Penny Marshall, Sarah Ferguson (Duchess of York).

“In times of great stress or adversity, it’s always best to keep busy, to plow your anger and your energy into something positive.” Lee Iacocca

Enjoy your Tuesday! I’ve missed being with you.

astrology for september 13 2013, Barry White, Chuck Palahniuk, Helen Keller, Maurice Chevalier, Moon in Sagittarius, Sun in Virgo, Terry Bradshaw, vision

“The trick to forgetting the big picture is to look at everything close-up.” Chuck Palahniuk

COSMIC WATCH:

A road map is usually of maximum use or benefit to us when we already know our destination and simply want to analyze or explore the various ways to get there. However, when we are murky or unclear about where it is that we want to go, it can be very easy for the details of the map (Sun in Virgo) to get lost on us. Kind of like we’re missing that one big “gestalt” figure that ties everything together.

Today, with the Moon in “big picture” Sagittarius, the Universe is perhaps forwarding the notion that we may want to try examining matters with our “hopeful destination,” already clearly in mind, and then try trekking backwards from there. See how our daily deeds or actions (the Virgo “dots on the map”) are supporting or hindering our long-term goals or intentions (Moon in Sagittarius) for ourselves.

Too, if we are currently operating without the benefit of a “clear vision” for our lives, or for a project, today may be a good day to begin fashioning one, as the Sagittarius Moon tends to make us want to “think big,” while the Virgo Sun is adept at filling in all of the details of how to get there. Also, always a good starting question to ask ourselves, when we’re crafting a vision, is, “What do we really want?” And, if we’re still unsure, or nothing immediately comes to mind, we may want to flip the question and ask instead, “What do we NOT want?” Normally when we do that, we’ll trigger a floodgate of responses, and then we can go ahead and start clarifying or building our vision based upon that process of elimination. “The most pathetic person in the world is some one who has sight but no vision.” Helen Keller

The Sagittarius Moon also puts a spotlight on matters of higher education or teaching, writing, public speaking, advertising and promotion, publishing, legal matters, long-distance travel, foreign affairs, or involvement with foreign cultures.

What one action could you take today to move yourself forward, in alliance with your personal vision?

Famous Birthdays September 12, 2013: Terry Bradshaw, Barry White, Maurice Chevalier.

“If you wait for the perfect moment when all is safe and assured, it may never arrive. Mountains will not be climbed, races won, or lasting happiness achieved.” Maurice Chevalier

Enjoy your Thursday!

Astrology August 27, 2013: Mars Enters Authoritative Leo

astrology for august 27 2013, frank sinatra, leadership, Lyndon B. Johnson, mars enters Leo August 27 2013, Michael Jordan, Paul McCartney, Ronald Reagan, Yasser Arafat

COSMIC WATCH:

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” John Quincy Adams.

In the last few years, so much has been written on the topic of leadership. One of the best known contemporary writers and coaches on the subject is, John Maxwell. When it comes to actually defining leadership, Maxwell simply describes it, “as influence – nothing more, nothing less.”

In astrology, Mars, the planet that symbolizes our passion and drive (including our sex drive), and inspires us to do our best and be our best, is also the planet that signifies our raw leadership ability (along with the Sun). As it passes through the twelve signs, our particular leadership style is denoted.

Tonight (at 10:05 pm EDT), Mars moves into proud, “Leo the Lion,” where it will stay until October 15.

Mars is very comfortable and at home in Leo. Its leadership style here is very take-charge and commanding, and often it is quite charismatic and creative here. Some famous people and celebrities with Mars in Leo, include: George Clooney, Jodie Foster, Beyonce Knowles, Hillary Clinton, Robert Redford, Paul McCartney, Frank Sinatra, and Michael Jordan.

Since Mars is, potentially, a more powerful force to be reckoned with, when it’s in Leo, a fixed, fire sign, this suggests that we may also be able to more readily tap into our own personal power now and leverage it, over the next few weeks, especially if we focus our efforts diligently, and concentrate on a few key things that we really want to accomplish.

Too, this is not a time to fritter away our time or talent on low priority items, or for wrapping up loose ends. Mars in Leo is all about in getting to the heart of a matter and taking control.

And, of course, as we expend more energy outward, confidently shaping and defining our special cubbyhole in the world, we also will have a greater chance to spread our individual “sphere of influence” around. John Maxwell cautions us here, though, that, “before we try to lead others, we must first lead ourselves.” A good point to remember.

Too, the house (or area of life) in our birth chart, that Mars is moving through now, is being highly energized. We may find that we have to devote more of our time or resources to dealing specifically with the issues of that house.

“To be successful you have to be selfish, or else you never achieve. And once you get to your highest level, then you have to be unselfish. Stay reachable. Stay in touch. Don’t isolate.” Michael Jordan

Another note about Mars now: It may also be interesting to see what happens to the price of gold, in the coming weeks, while Mars, the momentum planet, winds its way through colorful Leo. Leo is the zodiacal sign that rules the precious metal. Yesterday, on the heels of Mars moving into Leo, gold reached its highest level since June 7th, most likely based on the uncertainty in Syria and the Middle East (Mars also rules the military). Of course, Mars can also be a very volatile planet, so wide swings here in the price of gold, cannot be ruled out.

Famous Birthdays August 27: Yasser Arafat, Bob Kerrey, Lyndon B. Johnson. “Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.” Lyndon B. Johnson

COSMIC WATCH:

“Trust is established when words and deeds are congruent. Trust also develops when people feel safe and secure. When thoughts and ideas are shot down and ridiculed, it doesn’t take long to realize that the climate is neither safe nor conducive to making yourself vulnerable.” William M. Boast.

Providing a safe haven for our relationships, so that they can grow and flourish, and we’re able to freely show and express our vulnerable side within their borders, is usually best achieved when there is a deep foundation of trust between parties. Trust is something that, as Boast noted above, is partially erected when our words and deeds match up, and that the congruence is something that is normally measured or gauged over time, as what we say and do has a chance to come to fruition.

Today, the relationship realm is brought to the forefront because “lovable” Venus is square to “intense” Pluto.  On the shadow side, this is time when strong emotions can sometimes get the best of us. When this occurs, as we all know, our relationships can occasionally suffer, because we may be tempted to impulsively say or do something, in the heat of the moment, that we later regret, which, unfortunately, can also jeopardize the crucial “trust factor” in our relationships.

For instance, think of how easy it is for us to quickly sabotage our relationship with somebody by engaging in derogatory name-calling? Sure, it may feel good to us, to temporarily vent, but often no sooner do we get the venom out than we become bogged down with guilt by what we said. Not only that, the cost to repair or mend our relationship, if possible, can come with a hefty price tag.

Of course, just because we may be feeling strong emotions does not necessarily mean that our relationships are correspondingly going to be doomed or disrupted, or that our partner or mate should head briskly for the hills. It all depends on the manner of how we deal with them, and whether or not we even act upon them in the first place. That is where the matter of our personal choice and free will come into play. Too, when we are able to feel things more deeply, that can be a very positive thing, as that may mean that we are connecting with our passions, which Venus-Pluto can also symbolically represent.

Perhaps what we need to be focusing on more here, too, is, on what is coming up for us now, when we are experiencing these deeper emotions? What is their sheer presence inside us trying to tell us about ourselves, and our relationships? Also, if we do view our emotions as a gift to us, rather than fragile baggage that we must cart around, we may be able to deal with them in a more effective manner, and actually thank them for enlightening us further about ourselves.

Too, often with Venus-Pluto aspects, due to the transforming and regenerative nature of Pluto, it may be that our relationships are more prone to healing or restoration now, maybe after having reached, in some cases, a crisis or turning point. By examining the root causes underlying what we’re feeling (which Venus-Pluto poises us to do), we may be able to get a better handle on what is causing us to behave in a certain way, and this fresh new insight can then, hopefully, be used as launching pad to take our relationship perhaps to a deeper, more loving level. “But if these years have taught me anything it is this: you can never run away. Not ever. The only way out is in.” Junot Diaz

On a collective level, too, sometimes with the more challenging Venus-Pluto aspects, we are more prone to hearing about salacious relationships in the news,  that may also contain elements of manipulation, or abuse (Venus-Pluto can also denote obsessive behaviors, such as stalking). Interestingly, on the eve of this Venus-Pluto aspect becoming exact, there was the news report of the Mayor of San Diego, Bob Filner, reportedly resigning in wake of a high-profile, sexual harassment scandal (often the ‘square’ aspect forces issues). Too, again on the shadow side, Venus-Pluto can correlate with using others for our own gratification, or edification. It is often an element at work in power plays, or power struggles.

Famous Birthdays August 24: Mason Williams, David Gregory, Reggie Miller.

“I’ll be at Yankee Stadium, in the lion’s den, in Angel attire, representing my team.” Reggie Miller

COSMIC WATCH:

“You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.” Carl Jung

Our actions help to define who we are, they are the building blocks of our destiny and character. While we may have admirable intentions to do certain things, such as perhaps going on a fasting diet or vacuuming that unsightly, dust-laden carpet in the den, until we set those laudable inklings into motion, they’re still holed up in what could be described as the “Neptunian pipedream phase,” an ambiguous holding bin where it’s often easy for our hopes and desires to sheepishly recede or wither away. President Franklin D. Roosevelt once noted “There are many ways of going forward, but only one way of standing still.”

With the Moon’s ingress into “initiating” Aries today (3:13 am EDT), the Universe is likely hinting to us that it’s time to get back on the batter’s mound and take another stab at our dreams. With both the Sun and Mercury also shifting into analyzing, studious Virgo, we may find it easier to be more organized and systematic in our approach now, for the next few weeks. I know this morning already, I found myself reaching for several index cards so that I could take copious notes from a book that I was reading – telltale evidence of very Virgo-ish behavior, I’m afraid. 🙂

How might you “get on base” today?

Famous Birthdays August 23: Gene Kelly, James Van Praagh, Kobe Bryant, Rick Springfield.

astrology july 31 2013, change, diversity, Geraldine Chaplin, horoscope july 31 2013, J.K. Rowling, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Mars square Uranus, Milton Friedman, Moon in Gemini

“In this world one is seldom reduced to make a selection between two alternatives. There are as many varieties of conduct and opinion as there are turns of feature between an aquiline nose and a flat one.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

COSMIC WATCH:

Variety is said to be the “spice of life.” Today may be an especially good day to seek it out, with the Moon’s ingress into curious Gemini (11:42 am EDT) and also trailblazer Mars square to non-conforming Uranus, the planet of change and innovation. Too, while Mars-Uranus has been known to coincide with sweeping reforms (and revolts), it’s not always necessary to make wholesale changes with this influence to inject new life and variety into our lives; sometimes by tweaking things just a little, we can begin to shift the energy around us in a positive way – like casting a pebble into the water and witnessing the corresponding ripple affect. “And that is how change happens. One gesture. One person. One moment at a time.” Libba Bray

This might also be a good day to reflect upon, and to ask ourselves, “How open are we to issues of diversity (Uranus)?” “Christian, Jew, Muslim, shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the mystery, unique and not to be judged.” Rumi

It should also be noted that on the heels of the Mars-Uranus influence, Israeli and Palestinian officials agreed to resume negotiations, something that hasn’t occurred for a long while (we also still have the healing grand water trine taking place between Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune). Whether or not these negotiations will be successful, remains to be seen, but at least an attempt is being made to make some progress here. Mars is also in Cancer (as is Jupiter), which not only governs the home and family, but also issues of patriotism, or allegiance to one’s country, and matters of territorialism. Uranus is also in new beginnings Aries, which can foster pioneering approaches or strategies. The square aspect, itself, is often a catalyst for taking action on matters.

Too, today the sentencing phase begins for Bradley Manning. Many have characterized him as a traitor to his country (Cancer) for giving classified U.S. military (Aries) information to Wikileaks. Yesterday, he was found guilty of espionage and theft charges, but acquitted of aiding the enemy. Symbolically, Mars-Uranus can signify “having to deal with rogue behavior.” Manning faces 136 years in prison on the charges.

Famous Birthdays July 31: Milton Friedman, J.K. Rowling, Geraldine Chaplin.

“I adore simple pleasures. They are the last refuge of the complex.” – Oscar Wilde

COSMIC WATCH:

Pleasure-seeking Venus sextiles benevolent Jupiter today, the planet of optimism and abundance. It’s a perfect time for kicking back and doing whatever fosters a sense of joy and fulfillment. For some, this might equate to pursuing a romantic interest; experimenting with a new recipe; or maybe attending get-togethers with family and friends.

Ernest Hemingway once referred to pleasures as the “punctuation marks of life.” He also added, however, that we don’t want to get trapped in the “festival theory of life,” inferring that “too much pleasure” can lead to boredom or atrophy of the human spirit.

The adventurous Aries Moon also adds to our desire to be fully immersed in the moment. “Real generosity towards the future lies in giving all to the present.” Albert Camus

“If you have realistic ideals and can generally live up to them, your self-esteem will not be threatened. If your ideals are exaggerated and you cannot reach them, your good feelings from successes may be short lived, and you may feel that you are never good enough.” Mary C. Lamia

COSMIC WATCH:

Romantic Venus opposes dreamy Neptune, the planet of imagination and compassion. This aspect often finds us yearning for an idealized love; we’re eager to turn the tailless frog into a handsome prince. 🙂 Of course, most of us know what can happen when we venture down that prickly path. On the shadow side, too, this configuration is sometimes synonymous with clandestine or scandalous alliances.

Fortunately, later in the day, as Venus sextiles realistic, commitment-oriented Saturn, we’re more adept at sorting out fact from fiction; also, more concerned with determining the long-term value of our connections from a practical standpoint. Incidentally, Venus-Saturn is also linked with May-December romances.

The Moon’s ingress into initiating Aries (5:29 pm EDT) readies us for new beginnings. This Moon sign also favors physical activities.

“There is music in words, and it can be heard you know, by thinking.” E.L. Doctorow

COSMIC WATCH:

With the Moon sequestered all day in reflective Pisces, it’s advisable to spend some time alone with our thoughts; to turn an attentive ear to the music gently streaming inside of us.

Wayne Dyer once wrote, “Don’t die with the music still in you.” I take this to mean that we should never give up on our dreams. That we must find a way to keep on singing, or at least recalling, that magical, sometimes elusive melody within, that is our true essence and birthright – even if the rest of the world may not always “get us,” or render us rave reviews for our performances.

Too, we must believe that we are all lifted up when each of us beats along with the natural rhythm serenely emanating from within our sacred hearts. The idealistic Pisces Moon, coupled with the self-expressive, creative Leo Sun, beckon us on sweetly today to turn up the volume on our inner broadcast stations and joyfully sing along – even if we can only do this, for now, in the sanctity of the shower, with the bathroom door supportively closed.  Perhaps a primitive, but promising start to an emancipated life. 🙂

Famous Birthdays July 25: Maxfield Parrish (1870 – 1966), Estelle Getty (1923-2008), Louise Brown, 35 (first test tube baby).

“The hard part is how to plan a picture so as to give to others what has happened to you. To render in paint an experience, to suggest the sense of light and color, of air and space.” Maxfield Parrish.

Hope you enjoy your day. It’s very nice to be back with you.

“You must understand, young Hobbit, it takes a long time to say anything in Old English. And we never say anything unless it is worth taking a long time to say.” J. R. R. Tolkien

COSMIC WATCH:

Intellectual Mercury enters deliberate Taurus. This helps us to pilot down the burner on our thinking, so our thoughts and words have more time to marinate. Communications are endowed with more of a thorough quality now and we are also more attuned to the practical consequences of our thinking or reasoning. Mercury will stay in Taurus until May 15.

The Sun trining mysterious, transformative Pluto today may also lead us down an excavation trail. It’s a very good time to probe for deeper meaning, or for examining hidden motivations. Also, for tending to refurbishing projects.

The Moon’s entrance into curious, unconventional Aquarius, also suggests that we are more amenable to departing from the status quo now, or are at least, more willing to experiment with donning new approaches. “We must conduct research and then accept the results. If they don’t stand up to experimentation, Buddha’s own words must be rejected.” Dalai Lama XIV
