COSMIC WEATHER:

“Each of us seems to have a main focus, a particular idea of practicality – a concept of ‘what we want out of life’ against which we judge our experiences.” Jane Roberts

The illuminating Sun, denoting our spirit, enters earthy Taurus today (6:18 am EDT), the sign of money and possessions (where it will stay for the next month).  The Sun in Taurus imbues us with a more practical focus and greater desire for stability.

The anchoring Taurus Sun also forms an interesting sextile to dreamy Neptune in oceanic Pisces. So, it could be that we are able to manifest (Taurus) some of our dreams (Neptune) today. Too, even though the Sun is now in tangible, down-to-earth Taurus, the Sun’s soothing linkup with spiritual guru Neptune helps to provide a certain mystical or reflective quality to this day.

The Moon’s entrance into visionary Sagittarius (2:51 am EDT) also serves to sort of reiterate this “transcendent” theme. Sagittarius the Archer encourages us to “reach for the stars” and broaden our horizons through travel, philosophy, higher education, religion. Lest we forget, too, we still have four planets in fiery, adventurous Aries with Love Goddess Venus also moving into that sign tomorrow.

In the News: Perhaps fittingly, with the Sun’s sextile to Neptune bringing “sea-worthy” things to mind, we are also poignantly marking the one-year anniversary of the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.

A year ago today, taskmaster Saturn at 29 degrees of Virgo (Virgo oversees the management of resources) was in a tight opposition to unpredictable Uranus at 28 degrees of Pisces (Pisces rules both the sea and oil). This opposition aspect can often be a more “disruptive” influence, especially when we do not “play by the rules (Uranus).” Saturn was also forming a challenging quinqunx aspect to confusing Neptune (the ruler of Pisces) at 28 degrees of Aquarius.

Saturn is often billed as the “Lord of Karma.” It is the planet of accountability and responsibility (it also symbolically represents the Earth). When we have more difficult Saturn influences we often experience the more challenging consequences of our actions (reaping our karma, in other words). Here in the case of the oil spill, BP has also reportedly acknowledged that serious errors were made leading up to the disaster (the ‘tried and true” Saturn protocol was not maintained).

Famous Birthdays April 20th: Ryan O’Neal (70), Jessica Lange (62). Also, my late dog, Coco (depicted below), would have been 15 years old today, so it’s kind of a sad day for me. Coco died two years ago. The latter portion of her life, she was blind, deaf and diabetic, but she never seemed to let any of that get her down. She was a real trooper (had an Aries Moon.) She was perhaps the gentlest animal I ever had. I miss her every day. Love you, Coco Puff! Your mama’s thinking about you.

Astrology May 2010: Pablo Picasso Painting Sets Auction Record

A painting by Picasso “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” sold for $106.5 million last night at Christie’s, setting a record as the most expensive piece of artwork ever sold at an auction.  Picasso reportedly painted the picture in one day.

What I thought was most notable here astrologically in the horoscope for the auction: The transiting Sun in Taurus exactly square pioneering Mars in Leo.  Taurus rules money and possessions and Mars in Leo represents creative endeavors.  Mars is adventurous and often denotes “firsts” while the square “forces action,” often impulsive action.

With the Sun in the possession sign of Taurus, aligned with risk-taker Mars in creative Leo, there was “more of a mindset” to spend a record amount of money for creative, original artwork.

We also still have Mercury in acquisition Taurus separating from a trine to history-making Pluto in Capricorn, which is a very status-conscious sign.  Of course, owning a Picasso is definitely something of a status symbol.

Transiting Uranus is also at the last degree of Pisces, the sign of the zodiac which rules paintings and artwork. The nature of Uranus is unpredictable and Uranus more often than not ushers in new trends.

Uranus also equates to genius. Positioned at the end of Pisces, as it is now, could it be that Uranus is symbolically paying special homage to one of the most talented, genius artists who ever lived?

Just a thought.

I always regard planets at the end of the signs as having special significance for the collective, usually in a very spiritual and transforming way.

Picasso himself was a transforming figure born under Scorpio.  He also had four planets and Chiron in Taurus in his tenth house of career.  Taurus, ruled by beauty-loving Venus, can be very artistic and talented at creating objects of beauty.

Presently, both transiting Uranus and Neptune are exactly aspecting Picasso’s Pluto in Taurus in his career house.  Pluto rules death and rebirth and is associated with historic precedents – even from beyond the grave.

Also very interesting here, Picasso’s birth chart Pluto was at 29 degrees of Taurus, maybe signaling from the start that he was going to have a huge impact with his artwork on the collective (Pluto rules the masses).  This is again riding on the theory that planets at end degrees have special potency and meaning, reflecting a full maturation of what is originally intended with the sign. Taurus signifying artistic prowess.

Neptune, as ruler of Pisces (and the higher octave of Venus-ruled Taurus) , is also associated with art and paintings.  Neptune, too, interestingly enough, is exactly conjunct Picasso’s 8th house of death now.  This house also pertains to matters of his estate.  Suffice it to say, the beneficiaries to Picasso’s estate are very happy today that Neptune is there, don’t you think? Neptune on the regenerating 8th house, the rich legacy of his painting continues and reaches a new level on the material plane.

Patricia Thompson’s Horoscope April 20, 2010: Creating Value

The Sun enters consolidating Taurus.  It’s time to focus our energies more upon building things of value and permanence.  It’s also time to discern and evaluate the existing structures around us to gauge their ongoing purpose and relevance in our lives.  We may want to think about pruning away what no longer holds meaning for us or for what we no longer have time for.

For example, we may enjoy certain things or activities, however, due to shifting priorities, we may need to phase some stuff out now, as we become more aware that we only have so much time and energy at our disposal.  Taurus energy is all about focusing and building upon our successes. It is very practical, material, and no-nonsense, and prefers everything plain and simple.

With the Moon in nesting Cancer, we may want to focus our thoughts now on finding value in our homes. How do we regard our homes?  What do they say about us? Are they warm and inviting? Do they reflect our personalities? Do they give us peace? If not, why not?

Working from my home daily, I especially resonate to the following quote by Harold B. Lee:

“The most important work you and I will ever do will be within the walls of our own homes.”

Is that also true for you?

Since spring is a time of renewal, a period when we are symbolically born again, it is a perfect time to rejuvenate our living quarters. To think about pitching items we no longer need. When we have objects in our house that no longer speak to us, they rob us of energy. Taking them out of our households, reconfigures the energy around us in a positive way. Also, with Saturn presently opposite Uranus, we are being urged by the cosmos to discard whatever is outworn (Saturn) in order to grow (Uranus).

Additionally, with the Sun, Mercury and Venus all in the money and possession sign of Taurus, we may want to have a yard sale and sell the things we no longer want, while pocketing some cash in the process. The Taurus part in all of us would like that.

Wounded Healer Chiron enters Pisces today. The last time it was in this sign was from 1960 to 1969 coinciding with the peace and civil rights movements and free love and hippies. Pisces at its most noble expression represents Divine Love and compassion and the transcendence of physical boundaries. Back in the 60s, psychedelic drugs became popular with many young people trying to dissolve the hold of the physical world around them.

I have a feeling this time around with Chiron in Pisces, there may be far-reaching advances in medicine and perhaps more focus on natural and or homeopathic treatments, especially since spiritual Neptune will also be entering Pisces in the near future.

I also think we will be focusing more and more of our attention on the sea and our water supply, which is also ruled by Pisces.  Also on oil.  Hopefully, Chiron will help us to both heal ourselves and the planet by living greener and more naturally.

Before I go today, I wanted to let you also know that this will be my last daily astrology report. I intend to continue blogging on astrology but no longer on a daily basis. This decision has basically to do with what I blogged about today, and the importance of  personally finding value in what I do, as well as feeling the need to reset my priorities in wake of time and energy constraints.

Writing a blog daily is very time-consuming, especially with astrology, there is usually a lot of research involved, if you’re going to do it right. Another important issue for me is the matter of rewrites. Writing daily doesn’t allow for any incubation time for my thoughts and ideas.  I’m the type of person who likes to write and then edit and rewrite.  It’s not really possible to do this when you are putting out a daily blog. So, anyway, I think in the long run, I will be able to serve you better, as well as myself better, by focusing more on the quality of my blogs, and less on the quantity.

Peace and love, everyone!  Enjoy your Tuesday!

Patricia Thompson’s Horoscope April 19, 2010: Baby Steps, Pope

“Safe upon the solid rock the ugly houses stand: Come and see my shining palace built upon the sand!” Edna St. Vincent Millay.

The Moon enters nesting Cancer at 7:39 am EDT accenting home and family matters. Cancerian energy is nurturing and protective and is sometimes afraid of letting go or venturing outside of perceived comfort zones. If instead of taking giant leaps forward today, some of us may wish to begin our respective journeys with baby steps, that’s quite alright. What’s most important, is that we make that first step. Sometimes, too, when we proceed more tentatively, we become aware of meaningful realities that we never even knew existed.

The Sun is finishing up its annual romp in Aries today.  It’s perhaps a little pooped, anyway, getting ready to head into consolidating Taurus.  So much recent focus on self-discovery and trailblazing. The Sun’s quinqunx to Saturn in Virgo  also has Saturn asking the Sun now for a full acccounting of  what he has gleaned in recent weeks.  He is anxious for the Sun to perfect himself and his skills.

“This is the very perfection of a man, to find out his own imperfections.” Saint Augustine.

Memorable event in history on this date: April 19, 2005 – Pope Benedict XVI, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, becomes the 265th Pope. The Cardinal (b. 4/16/27) had the transiting and transforming Pluto in Sagittarius exactly conjoined his 10th house of career when he became Pope. Pluto often delivers to us those life-altering experiences and circumstances that can only be described as our destiny. Pluto also rules power and control and Pluto’s alignment on his 10th house conferred upon him the ultimate power as head of the Catholic church. The sign of Sagittarius is on the Cardinal’s career house in his birth chart, originally suggesting a possible life path in religion, as Sagittarius rules traditional religion. The Pope also has several other aspects in his horoscope that reiterate a more spiritually focused undertaking for this life.

Peace and love, everyone.  Enjoy your Monday!
