Cosmic Weather:

“You were given life; it is your duty (and also your entitlement as a human being) to find something beautiful within life, no matter how slight.” – Elizabeth Gilbert

Overall, the traffic is lighter on the cosmic highway this week. Today, the Waxing Moon is in slow-moving Taurus the bull – the sign of its exaltation – giving us, hopefully, a chance to catch our breath. This is good grounding energy that supports going at things at our own pace. Taking stock of financial, security, and stability issues may also be something that is front and center for us now.

Luna is also forming harmonious sextiles to Jupiter (8:49 am), the Sun (12:03 pm), and Neptune (11:03 pm), ideally supporting our sense of well-being and endowing us with more of a flair for cooperation – although Luna’s square to Saturn (4:56 pm) may also coincide with a temporary need to pull back or go it alone.

Too, while the Taurus Moon emotionally poises us to be more deliberate and cautious, the shift of motivator Mars into innovative, inventive Aquarius yesterday, along with relationship Venus, does also suggest more of a propensity or aptitude for experimentation or doing things up differently now. There is also more of an enhanced willingness for partnering with others either individually or on a collective basis to achieve our ends, including, perhaps, the creation of some rather odd or untested pairings. Both Mars and Venus will remain in the sign of the water bearer, until early April. Also, looking back in 2020 – the last time that Mars was in Aquarius (from late March to mid-May) – we saw accelerated breakthroughs in creating vaccines for Covid-19.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On March 7, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell receives a patent for the telephone in the U.S.

Astrologically, that day, communicator Mercury (which rules telephones) was in inventive Aquarius and separating from an opposition to technology-minded Uranus, the modern-day ruler of Aquarius. Mercury was also applying to an exact square to transformational Pluto; Mercury-Pluto aspects often pertain to news/events/messages that affect or shape the masses.

“When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.” – Alexander Graham Bell

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“If I speak of myself in different ways, that is because I look at myself in different ways.” – Michel de Montaigne

Today, 3-1-2022 is a “double-one” day numerologically, thought to bestow such qualities as purposefulness, leadership, creativity, and great determination to reach our goals. Typically, such a moment would also be deemed a propitious time to launch new beginnings; however, in the midst of a Balsamic Moon, it is thought best to occupy ourselves now with mainly future planning instead, as well as making space for quiet reflection and breaking down of the old, in preparation for tomorrow’s Pisces New Moon. Luna is also void of course in Aquarius today until its entrance into Pisces, later this afternoon (3:53 pm).

Shortly after midnight tonight, the Pisces Sun will also form an exact sextile with Uranus in Taurus (12:05 am), which suggests that today we will also perhaps feel more inclined towards donning new approaches or methods, going against convention, associating with people or alliances we may not normally gravitate towards possibly in an effort to stimulate and expose ourselves to different orientations or unfamiliar perspectives. Also, just being part of a larger whole now can feel much more meaningful and purposeful to us, especially when bound by shared interests.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On March 1, 1781, the Continental Congress officially adopts the Articles of Confederation, the first constitution of the United States of America after ratification by the 13th state, Maryland. The Articles of Confederation created a national government composed of a Congress, which had the power to declare war, appoint military officers, sign treaties, make alliances, appoint foreign ambassadors, and manage relations with Native Americans.

Astrologically, that day, transformational Pluto was in futuristic Aquarius, the sign of the collective, and exactly trine to envisioning Neptune in Libra. Motivator Mars and structuring Saturn were also conjunct in philosophical, big picture Sagittarius, excellent for laying down a solid foundation built upon or nurtured by our strongly held beliefs, convictions, and vision.

“If we are undone, we are the most splendidly ruined of any nation in the universe.” – Charles Thomson, secretary of the Continental Congress.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

daily astrology, Moon conjunct Saturn, Moon square Uranus, On This Day in History

Cosmic Weather:

“We must bend in the wind sometimes… So much is beyond our control.” Maggie Shipstead

We start out the last day of February on a bit of a rollercoaster ride! The waning Moon in collective-governing Aquarius is forming a hard square to its modern-day ruler erratic Uranus (8:50 am), which is deposited in the money and security sign of Taurus the Bull. (Interestingly, too, on a collective level, we have all the geopolitical financial sanctions going on now against Russia and many are not sure of how all of this will play out or impact the markets.)

Moon-Uranus, on the shadow side, is often associated with mood swings, rebelliousness, restlessness, the need for excitement. That said, it can also produce sudden insights or awakenings, fluctuations on the homefront.

Luna’s passage through Aquarius also serves to reactivate the ongoing but separating Saturn-Uranus square (i.e. a clash between the old and new), with Luna’s very last planetary stop of the day: a potent conjunction with “play-by-the-rules” Saturn (9:00pm); this is an aspect that could, among other things, help to present us with an unembellished reality check, possibly resulting in our temporarily adopting more of a stoic-type attitude, as we ponder our next moves.

“Nothing, to my way of thinking, is a better proof of a well-ordered mind than a man’s ability to stop just where he is and pass some time in his own company.” – Seneca

After Luna conjuncts Saturn it will also embark upon a long void-of-course period until its entrance into Pisces, tomorrow afternoon (3:53 pm).

Meanwhile, both Venus and Mars in Capricorn are also trining the growth-oriented North Node in Taurus today, a nice aspect of ease and flow that could pleasantly manifest a robust opportunity for us to take practical and meaningful action steps towards our future and the person we wish to become.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On February 28, 1953, molecular biologists Francis Crick and James Watson discover the chemical structure of the DNA-molecule (double-helix polymer).

Astrologically, that day, energizing Mars was in pioneering Aries and separating (less than one degree) from an exact square to breakthrough Uranus in Cancer, providing an abundance of creative and inventive energy. (When Steve Jobs co-founded Apple Computer, Mars in Cancer was also exactly trine to Uranus in Scorpio, the planet which rules technology.) Meanwhile, expansive Jupiter in Taurus was also just separating, on 2/28/53, from an exact sextile to Uranus. Over the years, Jupiter-Uranus aspects have been linked with various modern advances and leaps forwad including the first US spacewalk on the Moon by astronaut Neil Armstrong, on July 21, 1969, which took place when Jupiter and Uranus were exactly conjunct at 0 degrees of Libra.

In 1962, Crick and Watson, along with Maurice Wilkins would go on to win the Nobel Prize for Medicine for their work in determining the structure of DNA.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

daily astrology, On This Day in History, Stellium in Capricorn, Venus conjunct Vesta, voting rights for women

Cosmic Weather:

“My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends—
It gives a lovely light!” – Edna St. Vincent Millay

This Sunday morning finds the waning Moon hovering over (conjuncting) the current lineup in self-determined Capricorn, which consists of social Venus (4:06 am), assertive Mars (5:06 am), and concentrated Pluto (9:49 am); perhaps a test run of what’s going to occur Thursday when both Mars and Venus conjoin transformative Pluto in the sky.

On the plus side, there is more prompting/possibility now to adeptly marshall our energies and focus diligently on the tasks before us; preferably, also retiring those activities, plans, or interests that no longer serve us on our journey, as we prepare for the replenishing New Moon in Pisces, March 2nd. On the shadow side now, we may feel things too deeply, or darkly, or take matters to extremes.

That said, Venus is also pairing up nicely today with dedicated Vesta – the official, symbolic keeper of the flame – in Capricorn (2:25 pm), potentially making it easier and more pleasant to attract/focus on our work, our priorities, or the things that we love and want more of in our life.

“Your life is a beautiful blank canvas. You have the choice of splashing it with the most gorgeous and spectacular colors, by doing what you love.” – Hiral Nagda

Luna also will enter reform-minded Aquarius, this afternoon (1:36 pm).

*All Times EST

On This Day in History: On Feb. 27, 1922, the Supreme Court, in Leser v. Garnett, unanimously upheld the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which guaranteed the right of women to vote.

Astrologically, that day, there was a New Moon (new beginnings) in unifying Pisces, with the empowering Sun, liberating Uranus, feminine Venus, and maternal Luna, all closely conjunct and trine to evolutionary Pluto in Cancer. Over the years, Uranus and Pluto have been instrumental in fostering, ushering in radical social changes.

Decision-maker Mercury, in collectively-minded Aquarius, was also forming a one-degree trine to inclusive Jupiter in Libra, the zodiacal sign signifying the courts and scales of justice. Traditionally, Jupiter, the planet of opportunity, has also been perceived as representing our sense of ethics or our moral compass; wanting to make things better as a whole for all. Of course, there’s not always universal agreement on how precisely to achieve this. 🙂

“There never will be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect lawmakers.” Susan B. Anthony

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well. Let’s all pray for world peace.

Cosmic Weather:

“If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” Mahatma Gandhi

This Saturday, waning Luna – now in her crescent phase – remains all day long in serious, capable Capricorn, the surefooted sign of the goat. Being responsible, doing what is required of us, having the ability to make judgment calls in difficult situations are natural themes. Additionally, there is some willingness to explore new realms, adopt new practices, as Luna trines progressive Uranus in Taurus (6:40 am) and sextiles philosophical Jupiter in transpersonal Pisces (9:43 am). The Moon-Jupiter influence may also poise us to lean more into our faith or inspire us to make personal sacrifices for the perceived greater good. There may also be a desire to share with others some of the life lessons that we have learned, with the Moon in her disseminating stage.

All times EST

This Day in History: On February 26, 1616, the Roman Inquisition delivers an injunction to astronomer and physicist Galileo Galilei demanding he abandons his belief in heliocentrism, which states the Earth and planets revolve around the Sun. At the time, Galileo had the transiting Mars, in scientifically-minded Aquarius, applying two degrees to an exact square to his natal Mars in Taurus and quincunx to his natal Jupiter in Cancer. Mars aspects often challenge us to vigorously defend ourselves – including specifically having to defend our beliefs, when aligned with Jupiter – the planet which symbolizes our worldviews as well as areas pertaining to the cosmos and outer space.

Born On This Day: The late iconic country singer and performer Johnny Cash, in 1932, in Kingsland, Arkansas. Cash’s long musical career spanned from 1954 to 2003; during that time he recorded 91 albums and 170 singles. Some of Cash’s most famous songs: Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire, and I Walk The Line.

In Johnny Cash’s birth chart, Jupiter, in entertainment Leo, was exactly conjunct his sixth house cusp of work and artisanship – no doubt playing a role in his prolific musical output and talent; Jupiter, by its expansive nature, tends to magnify everything it touches. This planet was also exactly trine to his natal Venus/Uranus conjunction in bold, pioneering Aries, perhaps adding to his originality, artistic flair, and special brand of personal charisma. Interestingly, the late legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor was born just one day after Cash and reportedly sent him a telegram on his birthday, every year.

Hope it’s a good one. Please be safe and well.

daily astrology, mental breakthrough, On This Day in History, Ron and Nancy Reagan

Cosmic Weather:

Messenger Mercury, in astute Scorpio, is exactly opposite the electric Uranus Rx in Taurus this morning (10:56 am). Mercury-Uranus tends to speed up the mental faculties, which can result in a more restless state of mind. It’s easier to be argumentative, cranky, hasty, or impulsive in speech; careless or dismissive with details.

Since Uranus is considered the higher octave of thinker Mercury, it’s also very possible that the “powers-that-be” will now be releasing scintillating consciousness downloads for our edification and or amusement. 🙂 Seriously, Mercury-Uranus is associated with breakthrough ideas, epiphanies, sudden intuitions. It can be especially excellent for dealing with more abstract, mathematical, or scientific concepts. It can also be a very good time to free our minds from rigid ways of thinking, although we also may not necessarily want to rush to cut ties now as Uranus is still retrograde.

On yet another level, we may hear some surprising or unexpected news today that hits us like the proverbial bolt of lightning from out of the blue.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On November 13, 1979, Ronald Reagan announced his candidacy for US President in New York City. True to his Republican roots, Reagan ran on a platform of cutting taxes, reducing the size of the federal government, and reining in double-digit inflation. One year later, on November 4, 1980, Ronald Reagan would go on to defeat the incumbent president, Jimmy Carter, in a landslide victory.

Astrologically, on the day of his announcement, the authoritative Sun in transformative Scorpio was exactly conjunct unpredictable Uranus, an aspect that can often radically change the trajectory of things, including the trajectory of power. Energizing, assertive Mars was also in self-confident, theatrical Leo (Reagan was also an actor). Additionally, that day, Luna was conjunct philosophical, expansie Jupiter in solution-oriented Virgo; Jupiter is usually deemed to be beneficial or fortuitous in nature especially for public events or outings, which the Moon governs.

Also, as many of you may know, both Ronald Reagan (an Aquarian) and his wife Nancy (a Cancerian) were longtime followers of astrology. The late astrologer Carrol Righter, who was once billed as the “astrologer to the stars” reportedly advised the Reagans in the 1970s and was a close personal friend as well. Later, during Reagan’s presidency in the 1980s, astrologer Joan Quigley counseled them.

Born On This Day: Scottish poet, novelist Robert Louis Stevenson, who penned such classics as Treasure Island and Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.   He once shared: “Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant.”

Such timeless wisdom/advice for everyone. Don’t you agree?

Anyway, hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

daily astrology, First Quarter Moon, moon conjunct jupiter, On This Day in History, optimism

Cosmic Weather:

With the Scorpio New Moon intention-setting now in the rearview mirror, today’s First-Quarter Moon (7:46 am) poises us to spring into action to make our desired goals a reality. This Half-Moon in Aquarius also equips us to act with greater objectivity or detachment that can aid us in seeing our way ahead more clearly.

Luna’s monthly conjunction with expansive Jupiter (2:52 pm) may also make it easier to connect or partner with others who have similar visions for the collective or the community that we do. Moon-Jupiter also tends to fill us with more optimism. General Colin Powell once said, “Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.” While American philosopher William James stated, “Pessimism leads to weakness, optimism to power.”

How do you tend to see things? Is the glass half-full or half-empty?

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On November 11, 1919, Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day,” the first anniversary of the end of World War I. The US Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and November 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. (History.com)

Astrologically, on 11/11/19, Mars (which rules soldiers and the military) was in service-oriented Virgo and one degree separating from an exact, waning sextile to the authoritative Sun in Scorpio (the sign ruling death and rebirth). Intellectual Mercury was also in philosophical Sagittarius and exactly square to serious Saturn in Virgo, an influence that can make us more inclined to reflect upon or think about our past wounds or sorrows.

Born on This Day: Late Russian novelist, Fyodor Dostoevsky. He wrote in Crime and Punishment:

“The darker the night, the brighter the stars,
The deeper the grief, the closer is God!”

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well. Also want to say a big heartfelt “thank you” to all of our brave veterans.

Cosmic Weather:

The reserved Capricorn Moon is in its Waxing Crescent phase and gearing up for its monthly meetup with subterranean Pluto (at 12:51 pm). What has been hidden or concealed may now suddenly emerge, including possibly deeply buried emotions. Certain select skeletons in crammed closets could also be enticed to put in a rumpled appearance or two. Also, a good time for purge projects.

“The skeletons of the past must not hold back the dream of a new life, even though fear and regret, guilt and remorse may unsettle us during the effort to give our future a new home. – Erik Pevernagie

Later tonight, Luna will also shift into forward-thinking Aquarius (10:03 pm).

*All times EST.

On This Day in History: On November 9, 1966, John Lennon meets Yoko Ono at an avante-garde art exposition at Indica Gallery in London. Indica Gallery was a counterculture art gallery in London in the mid-1960s. Fascinatingly, Paul McCartney happened to be one of the supporters of the gallery, at the time, and actually hosted the showing of Yoko Ono’s artwork there when John and Yoko met that destiny-packed  November day. (Yoko Ono has often been characterized as the person responsible for the break-up of the Beatles.)

Astrologically in the sky, back then, the vitality-generating Sun, romantic Venus (also the planetary ruler of art), and dreamy Neptune were conjunct in passionate, intense, all-or-nothing Scorpio. Energizing Mars, awakening Pluto, and unconventional Uranus were also conjunct in astute Virgo – and sextile to all three of the Scorpio planets – stoking the possibility of unusual, out-of-the-ordinary type pairings suddenly taking shape. The time was also ripe for romantic idolizations, fantasy-weaving, creativity.

“A dream you dream alone may be a dream, but a dream two people dream together is a reality.” Yoko Ono.

being yourself, budget and taxes, hamster wheel, Moon sextile Uranus, moon trine venus, On This Day in History, retreat

Cosmic Weather:

The Waxing Pisces Moon is nearing its Full Phase, which will be occurring tomorrow at 7:55 pm. Luna Trines Venus in Scorpio, 10:26 am. Luna Sextiles Uranus Rx in Taurus, 6:26 pm. All times EDT.

“In order to understand the world, one has to turn away from it on occasion.” Albert Camus

An opportunity to disengage from the hamster wheel, for a spell, in a quest for more serene pastures (Luna in Pisces). Also, a sweet chance for us to play nice with each other; perhaps even revive or breathe new life into an old relationship or situation that had been perhaps left for dead or abandoned (Moon-Venus). We are also more open to experimentation, this evening, as well as possibly displaying our quirkier side (Moon sextile Uranus). To that end, the late Gemini poet and prolific writer Allen Ginsberg, a founding father of the counterculture Beat Generation once wrote: “Follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness.” Ginsberg espoused, among other things, gay rights and anti-war movements. In the 1960s, he also coined the phrase “flower power,” synonymous with peace and love as a way to change the world.

On This Day in History: On September 19, 1778, the Continental Congress passes the first U.S. federal budget, in a bid to pay for its war debts and to regulate the federal government’s taxes.

Astrological highlights that day: Venus (money and resources) was applying to an exact conjunction with structuring Saturn in Scorpio (the sign of taxes) – an excellent aspect for organizing our finances. The problem-solving Virgo Sun was also applying to a trine to Pluto in (government-ruling) Capricorn. Sun-Pluto aspects often trigger/spark transformational activities/endeavors. Additionally, Jupiter was in harvesting Virgo and in a tight sextile to the stewardship-minded Venus-Saturn meetup. Jupiter’s propitious ray often helps to bestow blessings upon matters.

“Death, taxes, and childbirth! There’s never any convenient time for any of them.” Margaret Mitchell 🙂

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well!

daily astrology, going overboard, On This Day in History, Sun quincunx Jupiter, Sun trine pluto, transformation, transitions

Cosmic Weather:

The Sun Quincunx Jupiter Rx in Aquarius (10:18 am): Too much of a good thing could have unintended consequences! We also may want to restrain/curtail our “inner fixer” a bit as it’s easier now to get carried away with our fervor for corrections/so-called improvements.

The Sun Trines Pluto ( 9:53 pm): This more flowing (alchemical) aspect allows for transformations, transitions with relative ease. There’s also more of an ability to quickly see below the surface of things so we are better able to appreciate all that’s going on. Included here, we also become more keenly aware of what we may need to discard or purge in order to grow. On another level, this influence can instill within us a greater passion for what we love or fill us with a deeper sense of purpose or resolve.

The Moon also shifts from traditional Capricorn to inventive Aquarius this morning (11:23 am) and is in its Waxing Gibbous phase with 78% illumination.

This occurred some two weeks after the outbreak of World War II. This act required men between the ages of 21 and 30 to register with their local draft boards.

After signing the act into law, Roosevelt said, “America stands at the crossroads of its destiny. Time and distance have been shortened. A few weeks have seen great nations fall. We cannot remain indifferent to the philosophy of force now rampant in the world. We must and will marshal our great potential strength to fend off war from our shores. We must and will prevent our land from becoming a victim of aggression.” (From Politico)

Astrological highlights on 9/16/40: Warrior Mars (ruling the military) was applying to a potent conjunction (new beginning) with the leadership Sun (three degrees) in the planning sign of Virgo. Mars was also just separating from a trine to Saturn and Jupiter, both conjunct in stabilizing Taurus, the sign which represents the resources at our disposal. Saturn and Jupiter together can help to, among other things, provide us with a more balanced/cautious/realistic view or assessment of the future. The Mars-Jupiter trine aspect was also exact on September 14th when this particular legislation was approved. The Mars-Jupiter alignment suggests/exemplifies expansion of military power/competitiveness/assertiveness.

“War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.” J.R.R. Tolkien.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.
