daily astrology, deep emotion, Moon conjunct Pluto, On This Day in History

Cosmic Weather:

The reserved Capricorn Moon is in its Waxing Crescent phase and gearing up for its monthly meetup with subterranean Pluto (at 12:51 pm). What has been hidden or concealed may now suddenly emerge, including possibly deeply buried emotions. Certain select skeletons in crammed closets could also be enticed to put in a rumpled appearance or two. Also, a good time for purge projects.

“The skeletons of the past must not hold back the dream of a new life, even though fear and regret, guilt and remorse may unsettle us during the effort to give our future a new home. – Erik Pevernagie

Later tonight, Luna will also shift into forward-thinking Aquarius (10:03 pm).

*All times EST.

On This Day in History: On November 9, 1966, John Lennon meets Yoko Ono at an avante-garde art exposition at Indica Gallery in London. Indica Gallery was a counterculture art gallery in London in the mid-1960s. Fascinatingly, Paul McCartney happened to be one of the supporters of the gallery, at the time, and actually hosted the showing of Yoko Ono’s artwork there when John and Yoko met that destiny-packed  November day. (Yoko Ono has often been characterized as the person responsible for the break-up of the Beatles.)

Astrologically in the sky, back then, the vitality-generating Sun, romantic Venus (also the planetary ruler of art), and dreamy Neptune were conjunct in passionate, intense, all-or-nothing Scorpio. Energizing Mars, awakening Pluto, and unconventional Uranus were also conjunct in astute Virgo – and sextile to all three of the Scorpio planets – stoking the possibility of unusual, out-of-the-ordinary type pairings suddenly taking shape. The time was also ripe for romantic idolizations, fantasy-weaving, creativity.

“A dream you dream alone may be a dream, but a dream two people dream together is a reality.” Yoko Ono.

Born Today: American Astronomer Carl Sagan (Nov. 9, 1934 – Dec. 20, 1996).

“The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff.” Carl Sagan.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

daily astrology, going overboard, On This Day in History, Sun quincunx Jupiter, Sun trine pluto, transformation, transitions

Cosmic Weather:

The Sun Quincunx Jupiter Rx in Aquarius (10:18 am): Too much of a good thing could have unintended consequences! We also may want to restrain/curtail our “inner fixer” a bit as it’s easier now to get carried away with our fervor for corrections/so-called improvements.

The Sun Trines Pluto ( 9:53 pm): This more flowing (alchemical) aspect allows for transformations, transitions with relative ease. There’s also more of an ability to quickly see below the surface of things so we are better able to appreciate all that’s going on. Included here, we also become more keenly aware of what we may need to discard or purge in order to grow. On another level, this influence can instill within us a greater passion for what we love or fill us with a deeper sense of purpose or resolve.

The Moon also shifts from traditional Capricorn to inventive Aquarius this morning (11:23 am) and is in its Waxing Gibbous phase with 78% illumination.

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On September 16, 1940, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs the Selective Training & Service Act (1st peacetime draft in U.S. history). This occurred some two weeks after the outbreak of World War II. This act required men between the ages of 21 and 30 to register with their local draft boards.

After signing the act into law, Roosevelt said, “America stands at the crossroads of its destiny. Time and distance have been shortened. A few weeks have seen great nations fall. We cannot remain indifferent to the philosophy of force now rampant in the world. We must and will marshal our great potential strength to fend off war from our shores. We must and will prevent our land from becoming a victim of aggression.” (From Politico)

Astrological highlights on 9/16/40: Warrior Mars (ruling the military) was applying to a potent conjunction (new beginning) with the leadership Sun (three degrees) in the planning sign of Virgo. Mars was also just separating from a trine to Saturn and Jupiter, both conjunct in stabilizing Taurus, the sign which represents the resources at our disposal. Saturn and Jupiter together can help to, among other things, provide us with a more balanced/cautious/realistic view or assessment of the future. The Mars-Jupiter trine aspect was also exact on September 14th when this particular legislation was approved. The Mars-Jupiter alignment suggests/exemplifies expansion of military power/competitiveness/assertiveness.

“War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.” J.R.R. Tolkien.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

daily astrology, illusion, mars enters libra, On This Day in History, Sun opposite Neptune

Cosmic Weather:

Virgo Sun Opposes Neptune Rx in Pisces (5:21 am) – While it can be both noble and useful to imagine a better place and a brighter world, there’s also often great utility in simply trusting people, situations, and things to be or remain exactly as they are or always have been, based upon their history.

This Sun-Neptune aspect has a tendency to lead us to believe that how we would like things to be is really the deal. In other words, the line between reality and illusion/wishful thinking may be a bit blurred now, so we should act accordingly, perhaps suspending final judgment until all the facts are in and all the deeds have been done.

In other instances, this influence can correlate with a dissolving, destabilizing, or unraveling of the ego or of power structures (sometimes due to scandal). There can also be a strong desire to be of service to others or to engage in acts of charity, selflessness, or compassion.

Energizing Mars also exits Virgo tonight for diplomatic, Venus-ruled Libra (8:14 pm). While assertive Mars is not necessarily a happy camper in Libra, and is deemed to be in its detriment here (opposite its home sign of Aries), it can be a favorable placement for garnering cooperation or consensus building. A shadow side of Mars here, in the sign of the scales, can be a tendency towards ambivalence or wavering.

The Waxing Moon also shifts from Sagittarius into pragmatic, professionally ambitious Capricorn today (7:34 am).

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On September 14, 1901, U.S. President William McKinley dies after being shot on September 6 by anarchist Leon Czolgosz and is succeeded by Vice President Theodore Roosevelt. (Wikipedia)

Astrological highlights, on 9/14/01: the authoritative Sun was conjunct Karma Lord Saturn, in worldly Capricorn, often a more somber influence, which can suggest a time of loss or a change of power at the top. Pioneering Mars in filtering Virgo was also separating from an exact trine to the Capricorn Sun, helping, perhaps, to facilitate the flow or transfer of presidential duties.

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” Theodore Roosevelt

Cosmic Weather:

“Our feelings are our most genuine paths to knowledge.” Audre Lorde

Having a serious heart-to-heart with someone may very well be in the cards now as conversationalist Mercury, in feelings-oriented Cancer, trines expansive Jupiter Rx in soulful, empathic Pisces (at 3:45 pm). An excellent planetary aspect to work through emotions and attempt to build or restore trust. Mercury trine Jupiter naturally supports the flow of communication and can also help to elevate our understanding and broaden our outlook. It is also an influence that is commonly associated with cheerfulness, optimism, and humor.

The Waxing Moon remains in colorful Leo today with morning conjunctions to both Venus and Mars, the cosmic pair of lovers! These two planets will be exactly conjunct in the sky, tomorrow morning.

“Never close your lips to those whom you have already opened your heart.” Charles Dickens

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On July 12, 1984, Democratic presidential candidate Walter F. Mondale put forward congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro of New York as his running mate, making her the first woman ever nominated for vice president by a major U.S. political party. Ferraro called the historic choice a “powerful signal” to all Americans. During her acceptance speech, a week later, Ferraro said, “There are no doors we cannot unlock. We will place no limits on achievement. If we can do this, we can do anything.” (History.com/geraldineferraro)

Astrologically, on July 12, 1984, decision-maker Mercury, in commanding Leo, was exactly trine to progressive Uranus, which was in inclusion-minded, politically-oriented Sagittarius.  Also, that day, Venus (ruling women) was separating from a wide conjunction with the empowering Cancer Sun and applying (two degrees) to an exact square (a tension aspect) to transforming Pluto in matrimonial Libra.

Shortly after Ferraro’s VP nomination, questions started to emerge about some of her husband’s prior financial dealings (possible impact of the Venus-Pluto aspect?). This matter would end up being a rather thorny issue that some say detracted from the presidential ticket. That November, Mondale would lose to Ronald Reagan in a landslide. Later on, in the 1990s, Ferraro would serve for three years as the Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights during the Clinton administration. (Wikipedia)

Cosmic Weather:

“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.” L.M. Montgomery

Thinker Mercury leaves chatty, versatile Gemini for sensitive, impressionable Cancer today (4:35 pm), where it will hang out until July 27th. This shift for the Winged Messenger helps to give more of a voice to our innermost thoughts and feelings. It can also propel us to have important conversations centered around such matters as home and family. We may also notice our past memories linking up more to the present moment, something which experts say can actually be very beneficial for us as research shows that our memories seem to help contribute to our overall ability to imagine future events as well as aid us in our future planning expertise. Mercury in Cancer is also an excellent time to hone or develop our listening skills.

The Moon is in magnanimous, self-confident Leo today and in its Waxing Crescent Phase.

On This Day in History: On July 11, 1900, at the Summer Olympics – where women participated for the first time – Charlotte Cooper beat Hélène Prévost to become the 1st female Olympic tennis champion and the 1st individual female Olympic champion in any sport.

Astrologically, that day, athletic Mars was deposited in ‘dualistic’ Gemini the Twins, at 9 degrees, and exactly opposite status quo disrupter Uranus, at 9 degrees of futuristic Sagittarius. Nine is also a number of completions.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology July 9, 2021: New Moon in Cancer, First Open-Heart Surgery

Cosmic Weather:

“What the younger generation didn’t understand was that the grass was greenest where it’s watered..” Nicholas Sparks

Tonight’s New Moon (9:17 pm) occurs at 18 degrees of nurturing, protective Cancer, a sign represented by the hard-crusted crab. This is a natural time for new starts that focus on such things as enhancing our sense of safety, security, comfort, or self-care; firming up our familial, tribal, or ancestral ties; allowing ourselves to be rejuvenated/sensitized by the full range or gamut of our emotions, including a willingness to embrace our vulnerabilities or shadow side.

This lunation is also trined by transcendental Neptune retrograde in Pisces, possibly suggesting (at least for some of us, perhaps) a wish to link up to our Divine underpinnings in some palpable way. Neptune’s ray here also tends to enlist our compassion, creativity, and imagination.

Too, our nocturnal dreams may contain potent symbolism or special messages for our life now so we might want to place a personal journal under our pillow so as to capture any of these renderings. (And to maybe goad on us a bit, in this regard: It has been reported that Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones got the embryo of the band’s hit song ‘Satisfaction’ in a dream, which would go on to become the group’s first #1 single in the US on July 10, 1965. Also, Beatle Paul McCartney supposedly composed the melody for ‘Yesterday’ while catching some Z’s. )

Numerologically, today is a “3” and “9” day.  Typically boding well for communication, curiosity, and open-mindedness. Nine is also a symbol of completion and is thought to have a higher vibrational frequency, a reality which is associated with feeling a greater sense of personal power as well as experiencing greater clarity, peace, love, and joy.

*All times EST.

On This Day in History: On July 9, 1893, the first successful open-heart surgery took place on Chicago’s South Side. The patient was a young man with a knife wound to the chest from a barroom brawl. The surgeon, who had gone into medicine because he disliked earlier work as a shoemaker’s apprentice, was Dr. Daniel Hale Williams. Williams, an African American, also founded Provident Hospital in 1891, the first Black-owned hospital in the U.S. which had an interracial staff. Provident Hospital is also where this pioneering surgery took place. (Chicago Tribune and History.com)

Astrologically, that day, Mars, which rules surgery, was deposited in Leo, the sign of the heart (where it also is today). Mars was also part of a trio of planets conjunct in that sign then (Mercury and Venus were the other two). Mars was also exactly sextile to Saturn in Libra, which is an excellent aspect for concentration and for harnessing/maximizing expertise or a skillset. Additionally, Mars was exactly square to innovative Uranus in the rebirthing sign of Scorpio, an aspect that naturally lends itself to experimentation and or devising/using new methods.

Happy New Moon blessings to you!

daily astrology, Moon in Gemini, On This Day in History, power, psychedelic, Sun square Pluto

Cosmic Weather:

“The day the power of love overrules the love of power, the world will know peace.” Mahatma Gandi

The Sun in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn (9:27 am). This more intense, complicated aspect can often find us pushing too hard to control the scheme of things; we may possibly perceive ourselves to be under attack so we won’t let go. However, holding on too tightly now can also boomerang and work against us, in some instances, particularly by depleting (or exhausting) our energy. Included here, we may also become more aware of specific behaviors that are no longer serving us and should be purged or moved to the curb.

On the other hand, this is not necessarily a time when we need to give up on our goals, especially those that are a central part of our basic self-expression, our personal identity, and or reflect our deeply-held beliefs, values, or viewpoints; instead, we may just need to retool things; to fashion some new creative responses or strategies that allow us to express our personal power and purpose in a more unifying way on an energetic level; that plays to our strengths or hopes (and not to our weaknesses or fears).

The Waxing Crescent Moon also remains in versatile Gemini all day. Imploring us to make connections, seek out alternatives, verbalize our feelings.

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On April 16, 1943, Swiss scientist Dr. Albert Hofmann discovers the psychedelic effects of LSD.

Astrologically, that day, pioneering Mars was at 29 degrees of experimental, innovative Aquarius and applying to an exact quincunx to hallucinogenic Neptune (which rules psychedelic drugs). Neptune was also Rx at 0 degrees and 1 minute of Libra, getting ready to re-enter the health-sign of Virgo. Neptune was an especially important “point-of-focus” in the sky then with its shift back into Virgo; Mars was also a key cosmic player at the critical “29-degree mark” – and getting ready to dive into Neptune-ruled Pisces. Mars-Neptune influences are often associated with seeking out activities that give rise to a “feeling of transcendence” or wanting to experience somehow “otherworldly” connections.

“By observing natural scientific discoveries through a perception deepened by meditation, we can develop a new awareness of reality.” Albert Hofmann

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“What some call rebellion, others call survival.” Shirley Fessel

Luna wraps up her stay in self-assertive Aries today – also accentuating yesterday’s late-night Venus-Pluto square, in the process. The Moon squares Pluto (7:12 am) and conjuncts Venus (8:06 am). Correspondingly, control issues, power grabs, exerting undue pressure on matters are all in the overall (cheery) mix of (egregious) behavioral possibilities (but only if we decide to go down those prickly paths!). Luna also goes void after the Venus conjunction, until she enters bullish Taurus, early this afternoon (1:44 pm).

Since Venus rules Taurus, we may also see some telltale remnants of the Venus-Pluto energy permeating the day. Included in this might be our deep, intense passions rising to the surface. The Waxing Taurus Moon also protectively steers us toward a focus on security or material issues. Symbolically, Luna in Taurus represents the builder or the consolidator; likewise, we are seeking tangible, concrete results from our efforts now.

“Create with the heart; build with the mind.” Criss Jami

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On April 12, 1861, Fort Sumter in South Carolina is attacked by the Confederacy, beginning the American Civil War.

Astrologically, that day, warrior Mars in Gemini was separating from a square to Karma Lord Saturn Rx in corrective Virgo and applying to a conjunction with rebel Uranus. Challenging Mars-Saturn aspects often coincide with a sudden expression of built-up or repressed desires, frustrations, doubts, or fears that may have been festering for a while. Mars conjunct Uranus is also perhaps the most potentially volatile of all planetary aspects. It is, in many cases, the hallmark of insurrections. It’s associated with (on the shadow side) sudden upsets, rash behavior, chaotic incidents. It can also ignite a burning desire for freedom or change.

Approximately 620,000 soldiers died from combat, accident, starvation, and disease during the Civil War.

“Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved through understanding.” Albert Einstein

Cosmic Weather:

“Science, my lad, is made up of mistakes, but they are mistakes which it is useful to make because they lead little by little to the truth.” Jules Verne

Mercury in Aries Sextile Saturn in Aquarius (11:09 am) – Following yesterday’s very spacey Mars square Neptune aspect, today is much better for attempting to pin the dashing tail on the ole’ proverbial donkey. Mercury-Saturn lends more precision and practicality to our thinking. Problem-solving could be less of a struggle.

Venus in Aries Sextiles Jupiter in Aquarius (2:53 pm) – Romance is in the air! Lady Luck may also be trying to track us down so we might want to consider leaving a long paper trail. This is a lovely influence for smoothing out any relationship bumps, for socializing, being playful. Promotes warm-heartedness and generosity.

Waning Luna also shifted into fiery Aries, early this morning (2:11 am), getting into position for tomorrow’s pioneering New Moon adventure in the sign of the Ram.

Numerologically, April 10, 2021, is very dynamic! A double “one” day. Good for taking charge, showing leadership, displaying confidence.

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On April 10, 2019, the first-ever photo of a black hole was announced, taken by The Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration in 2017 in galaxy M87, 6.5 billion times the mass of earth, 55 million light-years away.

Astrologically, that day, newsmaker Mercury (in charge of corporate press releases) was deposited in infinity-seeking Pisces (the sign that also rules photography) and exactly sextile to enigmatic Pluto (aka Darth Vader) in Capricorn. Mercury-Pluto often coincides with eye-popping, riveting headlines. By the way, that very same day, four tiny sweat bees were removed alive from a woman’s eye (not making this up!) in the world’s first operation of its kind at Fooyin University Hospital, Taiwan. daily astrology, nurturing, On This Day in History, self-care, Sun conjunct Ceres, symbolic birth of the internet, Waning Crescent Moon

Cosmic Weather:

“Nurturing a feeling makes it proliferate. Choose wisely. Joy, kindness, love, and caring will illuminate your life.” Amy Lee Mercree

Sun conjunct Ceres in Aries (3:05 am) – We are more inspired to actively pursue self-care measures. Fresh realizations also sprout up regarding what makes us feel the happiest or most alive; we identify desires that are vital to the continued emergence/flowering of our life’s sacred purpose or that yield for us a deep sense of inner well-being or self-renewal.

Luna, now in her Waning Crescent phase, also wraps up her stay in progressive Aquarius today, with her last aspect in that sign a conjunction to expansive Jupiter (6:04 am). With Luna conjunct the largest planet ln our solar system, there’s a  proclivity/preference for grander gestures now. Also, more of a feeling of hope and optimism.

The Moon will then enter imaginative Pisces in, late afternoon (4:30 pm), helping to give a big thumbs-up to creative projects. Luna here also extends to us a gentle protective cover for perhaps catching up on some (well-deserved) R & R (also a perfect complement to today’s nurturing Sun-Ceres conjunction). French fashion designer Christian Louboutin also says the best way to relax is “to do what you love.” That sounds about right. Do whatever keeps you in sync with your own natural rhythm.

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: April 7, 1969, is the internet’s symbolic birth date: publication of RFC 1.

Astrologically, that day, scholarly, expansive Jupiter and tech-savvy Uranus (which now rules the internet) were closely conjunct in two different signs: Jupiter was Rx at 29 degrees of analytical Virgo; Uranus was Rx at 1 degree of social Libra. The Jupiter-Uranus conjunction symbolizes, among other things, the birth of seemingly unlimited possibilities for modernization; the reception of important new (consciousness-raising) downloads. By the way, the U.S. also put a man on the Moon, for the very first time, when these two planets were exactly conjunct, later that same year.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.
