The pace quickens as the Moon leaves laid back Taurus for “Can we talk?” Gemini (at 2:08 am EDT Saturday). The air is filled with a cacophony of voices parlaying scintillating pieces of information, misinformation. Mercury also turns retrograde in Taurus (at 12:06 am EDT Sunday). Best to defer signing important contracts until May 11th. (That is when Mercury resumes direct motion again).

Meanwhile, a pleasant sextile aspect from relationship Venus to expansive Jupiter bodes well for romance and our power of attraction.

Memorable event in history on this date:

The “Ford Mustang” is formally introduced on April 17, 1964 with a base price of $2368.   Lucky Jupiter just entered Taurus, the sign of possessions, and was exactly sextile to stabilizing Saturn in Pisces – a perfect time to debut a product for long-term success.  Also, Mars was strong at home in Aries, giving us a love of sports cars!

Peace and love, everyone!  Enjoy your weekend!

Saturn-Uranus 2010: New Same-Sex Hospital Rules

President Obama ordered new rules Thursday allowing for “same sex hospital visits.”  The new regulations give gays and lesbians the right to visit their partners in the hospital and have input into their care.  This marriage benefit has been something that has not always been extended to gay couples.

“Gay and lesbian Americans…are often barred from the bedsides of the partners with whom they may have spent decades of their lives-unable to be there for the person they love, and unable to act as a legal surrogate if their partner is incapacitated,” Mr. Obama said in his order according to the online Wall Street Journal.

These new rules come on the heels of Saturn’s retrograde back into the sign of Virgo (Virgo rules health) and its opposition to change-agent Uranus in Pisces (Pisces rules hospitals).  Saturn pertains to rules and established protocol while oppositions bring about “turning points.” Uranus, as ruler of the expanded, liberated collective Aquarius, would be representative of gays and lesbians here.

Rebel Uranus characteristically attempts to overturn the structure that Saturn has put into place, especially when that structure has the affect of “stifling or repressing” individual self-expression. In this instance, Uranus in Pisces served as a catalyst for changing the rules (Saturn) that hospitals (Pisces) have traditionally followed, regarding the dissemination of health care services (Virgo).  Uranus in Pisces triggered the need for new policy with a wider application among a diverse population group. The present Saturn opposition to Uranus formally “finalized” this policy change.

Additionally supportive for the implementation of these new rules: Venus, which rules love relationships, and Mercury, which governs thinking, are conjoined now in practical, workable Taurus. Both planets are also harmoniously sextile to expansive Jupiter in Pisces, the sign of hospitals. Venus aligned with Jupiter is traditionally regarded as one of the “luckiest aspects” in astrology, bringing about favorable conditions and circumstances.  So, on the surface, this would seem to be an especially good time (Jupiter) to usher in new guidelines (Mercury) pertaining to “intimate couples” (Venus). Jupiter’s ray is such that it tends to have a broadening or growth affect on the areas or activities that are ruled by the sign that it is passing through.  Jupiter intrinsically represents and fosters new growth opportunities and generally coincides with a more optimistic outlook.

“Pleasure is the object, duty and the goal of all rational creatures.” Voltaire.

We are moving along but at a slower, more leisurely pace. Our need for adventure is coupled with a good measure of common sense and caution as the Moon cavorts through practical, yet self-indulgent Taurus.  This is an ideal time for evaluating the pros and cons of our new plans and for calculating costs, budgetary matters.

We are also weighing the itinerary of perks available to us if we expend energy in a new direction. For instance, will we still have time for a peaceful stroll in the park? What about being able to fit in time for a facial and foot massage?

An ocean of opportunity may be in front of us. On the surface, that sounds cool. But, logistically, if we go swimming in it, will we be able to make it back home in time for dinner? Also, what about the water temperature? We can’t go out if the water is too cold.

The longer we mull everything over, it may actually make more sense for us to go sailing instead of swimming. That way, we can conserve our physical energies.  Too, we’ll be able to eat while we’re exploring.  We may even be able to fit in a rejuvenating nap.

We could even wait until the Moon gets into Gemini before venturing out.  With Venus and Mercury both getting ready to join the Moon soon, it may be more fun to have a beach party now.

Memorable event in history on this date: April 15, 1985 – South Africa decides to repeal sex and marriage laws against whites and non-whites. At the time, expansive Jupiter was transiting humanitarian Aquarius, elevating the collective understanding and broadening capacity for diversity and tolerance. Also, the trail-blazing Aries Sun was exactly quinqunx Saturn in Scorpio.  The quinqunx is an adjustment aspect. Saturn in Scorpio suggests blockages or restraints regarding sex.  The precedent-setting Sun here successfully forced fearful Saturn in Scorpio to get out of its comfort zone and venture out into a new arena.

“All glory comes from daring to begin.”  Eugene F. Ware

The New Moon in pioneering Aries (8:29 am EDT) propels us into action. We go forth into the world with a spirit of confidence and discovery. It’s an inspiring period of rebirth, a time for embracing bold new challenges. The Moon’s sextile to Neptune and Chiron triumphantly adds to the feeling of hope and majestic vision for the future and courageously goads us on to bury old hurts and wounds and free ourselves up from self doubt.

If we don’t like where we are now and what we have become, this is a perfect day to start all over again.

“There will come a time when you believe everything is finished.  That will be the beginning.” Louis L’ Amour.

In the News: On Twitter Tuesday, there was a tweet from @BreakingNews quoting German Police as saying that the home that Pope Benedict (an Aries) was born in had been vandalized and that the break-in was possibly related to the child sex abuse scandal. In the Pope’s horoscope now, he has transiting Saturn exactly square his natal Mars in Gemini in the fourth house.   The fourth house governs the home, and Mars rules vandalism.  Saturn also symbolizes the past (a former residence) and can rule loss.  Of course, this reported incidence of vandalism is low on the totem pole of importance, compared to all the other chaos and agony in the Pope’s life now, but still it does, I’m sure, touch him in some way, as we all have clinging memories of our roots, particularly our birth place.

The Vatican also is drawing more fire this week in wake of a Cardinal’s claim that the pedophilia was linked to homosexuality.  Again, the Saturn-Mars aspect is notable here as Mars also rules sex.  Saturn additionally rules issues, problems, and represents a more narrow-minded or limited viewpoint.  By the way, the Pope’s birthday is Friday.  He’ll turn 83. We wish him the very best.  A lot on his plate.

Peace and love, everyone.  Enjoy your Wednesday!

“Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.” Ralph Waldo Emerson.

As we approach the personally rejuvenating New Moon in Aries (Wednesday), it’s a great time to ponder and renew the level of trust that we have in our own abilities. New Moons are about new beginnings and going forward and this one in Aries focuses on our personal development.

One way to empower ourselves and to add to the belief in our own capabilities is by vowing to try our best at every opportunity that comes our way. Even if we have had failure in the past in an area, it doesn’t matter.  What’s important is that we keep trying to better ourselves.  With each success we have, the belief in ourselves will grow.

“If you hear a voice within you say “you cannot paint,” then by all means paint, and that voice will be silence.” – Vincent Van Gogh.

Peace and love, everyone.  Enjoy your day!

Horoscopes of Kitty Kelley and Oprah, New Oprah Book

Kitty Kelley’s 544-page unauthorized biography of television icon, Oprah Winfrey, is slated to be released by Crown Publishing tomorrow (April 13).  Kelley reportedly conducted 850 interviews during her three years of research for the book. More than 500,000 copies of the first printing have been ordered.  Kelley’s other celebrity books have all been best-sellers, including her biographies on Elizabeth Taylor, Nancy Reagan, and Frank Sinatra.

In Kelley’s horoscope now (DOB 4/4/42 at 5:00 pm Spokane WA) she has transiting Saturn conjunct her natal Neptune in her first house of new beginnings.  Saturn represents worldly achievements while Neptune has to do with our fantasies and dreams. This planetary pairing, at its most optimum manifestation, can symbolize the “realization of a dream.”  The shadow side of this aspect, however, can signify a period that can also be ego-denying (Neptune) in various regards.

For example, sometimes with Saturn-Neptune we may do something noble but then fail to get proper credit or attention for it. Or, perhaps our efforts on a project are misunderstood or become misrepresented by others. Such is the nature of Neptune. It  characteristically dissolves or confuses aspects of structures that we have carefully erected, mainly as a way of keeping us humble.

We all go through Neptune periods. They are never easy, but on the positive side, they can help foster a more spiritual view on things, as we begin to realize the fleeting nature of life on the earth plane. Neptune, at its highest vibration, represents our link to the Divine.

Since Kelley has Neptune in her first house, to begin with, she is also probably accustomed to being a little “out of step” with the rest of the world, as well as perhaps use to having her intentions not always fully understood by others (the first house is how others see us). Neptune often puts a veil of illusion or mystery around things that it touches, so sometimes when it is on the Ascendant it is harder to see through to the true essence or modus operandi of individuals who have it there.

Additionally, Saturn’s transit through the first house (which Kelley also has now) is often a time when we have to “go it alone.” The resources at our disposal are often diminished, so we have to be wiser or more judicious in the use of our energies and also more disciplined in our focus. Also, Kelley presently has Saturn opposing her Mercury (communication), an influence that can be restrictive or limiting for speech and communication matters, which is probably why she is reportedly getting a cooler reception from some members in the media regarding promotional interviews for her book. With Saturn-Mercury, too, our ideas and thoughts (Mercury) are often subjected to unrelenting criticism or rebuke (Saturn).

On the plus side, however, Saturn will soon be harmoniously trining both Kelley’s natal Saturn and Uranus conjunction in her ninth house of publishing, which should be a very positive influence for her new book in terms of sales.  The Saturn trine to its natal position usually rewards us materially for our past efforts.  Kelley’s natal birth chart, too, has many planetary aspects that suggest material success as a writer. Most notable is her Mars and Jupiter conjunction in the communication sign of Gemini.  She has this conjunction  exactly on her 10th house of career.  Jupiter rules writing and Mars denotes what we are passionate about and when these two are aligned, there can be a passion and flair for words and communication.

Meanwhile, Oprah Winfrey (DOB 1/29/54 at 4:30 am Kosciusko MS) presently has transiting Pluto sitting close to her 29 degree Sagittarius Ascendant. Pluto on the Ascendant or first house can be very transformational and life-changing. Pluto symbolizes the urge for rebirth. Winfrey has already set into motion major changes in her life, under Pluto’s ray, including announcing that she will be leaving her syndicated daily TV show and most recently sharing that she is going to be hosting a new nightly TV show, in the future, on her own network.

Ironically, Pluto also rules secrets and mysteries (as the natural ruler of the eighth house and the sign of Scorpio). With Pluto on Winfrey’s first house of personality now, the stars suggest that it could very well be that we will be privy to finding out some new personal things about her. Pluto’s influence often acts in such a way that it brings to the surface what has previously been hidden or buried. Pluto’s presence here could also be indicating the attempt by Kelley to find out hidden things about Winfrey to share with the public, as it is the nature of Pluto to probe and inquire.

The higher spiritual function of Pluto is to serve as a purging agent, ridding us of elements that are no longer needed or that we have outgrown, that are keeping us from evolving. Winfrey may be trying to free herself of structure now that she has moved beyond.

Winfrey’s horoscope also suggests that she is by nature a more private individual as she has her assertive Mars in secretive and more controlling Scorpio.  It is additionally exactly square to her natal Pluto in Leo, often a potent aspect for success because  it shows unyielding drive and an indefatigable spirit.  Pluto denotes the urge for power and control, and combined with Mars, ruling the aggressive urge, individuals with this aspect can often end up assuming positions in which they wield a lot of authority. Her Pluto is also in Leo, ruling entertainment, the arena in which she has amassed her power.  The shadow side of Mars-Pluto is these individuals often have to be very careful not to misuse their power or manipulate others for their own selfish gains.

Interestingly, both Kelley and Winfrey have several astrological traits in common, including both have the Moon in Sagittarius, making them naturally adventurous and risk-takers, as well as being deft at conversation. Both also have Jupiter in the sign of Gemini, at 16 degrees of that sign, which is very ironic for both of them to have that planet at the very same degree.  Jupiter shows our talents and gifts, and what we are good at, and Gemini (as stated earlier) rules communication.  Winfrey has used her Jupiter, of course, to become a television talk show icon while Kelley has used it to become an iconic figure in the the world of celebrity biographies. In a way, similar destinies.

“Dreams come true when you wake up in them.” Maurice Spees.

Our idealism is stoked today with the compassionate Pisces Moon. A pleasurable time for sowing a plethora of good deeds.  We try to believe the best about everything.  However, since it may be harder to distinguish fact from fiction, we may just want to go with the flow and not worry too much about what we’re feeling is real or not. We’ll know soon enough.

“All that is gold does not glitter, not all who wander are lost, the old that are strong do not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost.  From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring, renewed shall be blade that is broken, the crownless again shall be king.”  J.R.R Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Peace and love, everyone!  Enjoy your Sunday.

Transformational energy converges upon us.  We are awakened to new possibilities, particularly in the realm of personal relationships (Venus trine Pluto).

A new person coming into our life now, that we have a strong reaction to, could be someone that we had a karmic tie with in the past. They may be reappearing at this time to teach us about issues of power and managing our personal resources, as well as to help us experience deep-level emotions.

“Life’s unfairness is not irrevocable; we can help balance the scales for others, if not always for ourselves.” Hubert Humphrey.

There is an intensity factor to all new relationships forged now. We may sense a “fated quality” to them. We should pay extra close attention to who comes into our path of orbit now and under what circumstances and make note of how we intuitively feel about them when we meet them. Our intuition may provide valuable insights into the lessons we are suppose to learn from them.

Meanwhile, an existing relationship may go through a “resurrection-phase” and perhaps reach a new level of involvement and commitment. This is an excellent time for taking inventory of the close relationships in our lives and examining their meaning in terms of how they are serving our higher purpose. Toxic relationships should be pruned.

Our power to attract to us the material resources that we desire is enhanced now.  This is generally a favorable time to sow seeds for new endeavors that could pay off handsomely for us in the future.

We do need to exercise some caution, however, regarding personal spending, especially for spur-of-the-moment impulse buying, which we could end up regretting later (Mercury square Mars).

Additionally, it’s a good time to scrutinize what it is that we are passionate about, in terms of our activities, hobbies, and interests, with an eye to restructuring our lives in such a way that we are able to include more of our favorite things into our daily existence, while weeding out outlets that we are only lukewarm or robotic about.

Lastly, many of us may be dealing with “anger management issues” today to varying degrees (Mercury square Mars).  We may either be wrestling with our own tempers (Mars) or have stressful interaction with angry individuals. This is not a day to be  bullying others or for engaging in road-rage, as the karma incurred could be significant.

Famous Aries persons born April 4th: Maya Angelou, Muddy Waters, Robert Downey, Jr., Anthony Perkins

Special Birthday Salute to Maya Angelou: Maya turns 82 years young today! Her natal Aries Sun is closely conjoined expansive Jupiter in her birthchart and both are in her 9th house of writing and teaching.  Maya is a prolific author (Jupiter) and has written over 12 books in addition to poetry and even song-writing. Sun-Jupiter individuals often serve as mentors to the rest of us as they are normally philosophically minded and inspirational in their communication style.  They deeply love sharing their knowledge and wisdom and do so passionately and enthusiastically.

“A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” Henry Brooks Adams.

Maya also has idealistic and imaginative Neptune on her Ascendant (the window from which she looks out to the world). Neptune conjunct the Ascendant makes her very visionary and otherworldy (as well as highly creative).  It also suggests a heightened sensitivity to her environment, especially an ability to pick up on the moods of people around her like a psychic sponge.  Maya likely functions best when she is able to fit in frequent periods of seclusion to recharge both her psychological and spiritual batteries.

Peace and love, everyone.  Happy Easter!
