COSMIC WATCH:

Full Moon

The last Full Moon of the year is occurring, today, in “communicative” Gemini at 14 degrees (7:27 am EST). Full Moons are a time of illumination and culmination, as well as a time of release. They also represent a period when we must find a way to balance or integrate opposing forces, such as, in the case of today’s Full Moon, balancing the philosophical side of our nature, depicted by the Sagittarius Sun, with the communicative aspect of our self, which is symbolized by the opposing Gemini Moon.

Also, to backtrack, two weeks ago, during the Sagittarius New Moon, seeds were planted to gain a wider perspective on our lives. Now, with this Full Moon, those seeds are coming to fruition and we are beginning to incorporate or thread that new awareness into our daily life via our interactions with the world (Gemini).

The Full Moon in “Mercury-ruled” Gemini can be viewed as a “networking” Moon, in some ways. It is about expanding our scope of influence in the world through our connections.  Ideally, it is also priming us on how to mingle with others we may not normally associate with. Too, in this process of interacting, we’re also learning to become more socially adaptable, as well as becoming more aware of how we each have our own unique take on things. “The secret of many a man’s success in the world resides in his insight into the moods of men and his tact in dealing with them.” J. Retrograde Mercury square Saturn, Moon in Libra

The proverbial saying “silence is golden” may be an effective, diplomatic strategy (Libra Moon) to avail ourselves of today, particularly if we find that we’re in an awkward or difficult situation in which we’re just not mentally connecting with somebody, for whatever reason, and we intuitively sense that, no matter what we do or say, we’re likely to remain at an impasse (Saturn). It’s like one of the roads of the two-way conversation is closed, so what would be the point in trying to journey down it?

Also, it could be that if we’re willing to wait it out or redirect our focus, the road will re-open again shortly, and the conversational flow with be smoother. Too, often there’s great wisdom and reassurance in simply honoring the natural rhythm of things versus feeling that we must force issues in order to meet some arbitrary timetable or expectation of ours. “Speech is for the convenience of those who are hard of hearing; but there are many fine things which we cannot say if we have to shout.” Henry David Thoreau

The Moon shifts into “chatty” Gemini this afternoon (2:40 pm EDT), offering up a surefire forum for conversation and exchanging information with each other. Too, as Peter Drucker noted above, we will likely be afforded ample opportunity to pay special attention to the various nuances of communication now, including noting what is not being said. Also, perhaps, observing how things are being said – the intonation, the rate of speech.

Too, isn’t it always fascinating to observe individual body language and to see how it supports, or does not support, the verbalization? This aspect is perhaps even more intriguing for us now with the Sun’s passage through investigative, probing Scorpio, a time when we are naturally more inclined to want to play detective and go below the surface of things. “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” Albert Einstein

The Gemini Moon also finishes up her day with a late night trine to sweet Venus (11:33 pm EDT), hopefully paving the way for greater intimacy. With the “illuminating” Sun squaring “guarded” Saturn today (12:14 am EDT) we may feel more of a desire us to protect our own interests now, as Saturn symbolically represents our need for security. This may also translate into setting boundaries around areas that are dear to us. Too, sometimes setting appropriate boundaries can be an important form of self-care. Or put another way, a boundary can be viewed as a safe harbor container for our energy. Boundaries help us to conserve our resources so we are not all over the place. They also help us to construct and communicate our individual identities.

Additionally, the Moon in communication Gemini serves us well here as it can help us to articulate our feelings in an effective manner so people know where we stand on things. Entertainment News Update: I happened to see on Twitter this morning that the Bruce Springsteen-Paul McCartney concert at London’s Hyde Park was silenced last night after the two reportedly defied a 10:30 pm curfew. Of course, as an astrologer, I immediately got to thinking about the nature of the more restrictive (sometimes punitive) Sun square Saturn aspect in operation now. Karma Lord Saturn has often been likened to a paternal authority figure. Saturn typically has no problem taking us to task when we do not play by the rules, as this planet can be a stickler for conformity. Ironically, Saturn is also associated with hearing issues and deafness and these two iconic entertainers had their performances silenced. Too, communicator Mercury just went retrograde yesterday in entertainment Leo. 🙂

We may want to be more mindful of our communications, as well as our travel plans, the next three weeks, with Mercury stationing retrograde today at 12 degrees of leadership Leo (10:16 pm EDT). As many of us know, Mercury retrograde has been linked with communication and travel snafus. Too, we have just had Uranus, the higher octave of Mercury, also go retrograde on the 13th. On the eve of that planet’s retrograde, there reportedly was also an extreme solar flare eruption. A solar storm from that eruption could be heading to earth this weekend potentially posing danger to technology on Earth, as well as any spacecraft. Uranus governs technology and is also connected with space travel.

Retrograde Mercury periods are generally times when we revisit our recent decisions and thinking. Too, decisions that are made concerning new matters, during a retrograde period, are sometimes later revised, postponed or delayed, so we need to be sure that we keep a flexible mindset and not get bent out of shape should these things occur later. Some astrologers also suggest postponing signing important contracts during a retrograde Mercury cycle until Mercury goes direct. With analytical Mercury square fantasy Neptune today there can be a tendency to gloss over the facts. Or substitute fancies for facts. Sometimes with this influence information is also withheld from us, for one reason or another. Or, we are the one who is doing the withholding. On the shadow side, Neptune is linked with deception, including the self-generated kind.

Some strategies we may want to employ now to avert any potential communication snafus include: asking for clarification of statements made in conversation; repeating back what we thought was said; not making any assumptions; and adhering only to the facts of matters.

We may also want to check with how things are resonating for us on a gut level, as Neptune does govern our psychic impressions, which may be more activated now. On another level, Mercury-Neptune is excellent for creative projects that draw upon our imagination.

The possibility of our being able to convey our brilliant, dazzling ideas in an energetic, clever fashion may be elevated today as thinker Mercury, the Winged Messenger of communication, exits slow, deliberate Taurus and flits into breezy Gemini (7:12 am EDT), one of two signs that it rules. Mercury will be in fast-talking, witty Gemini until July 7th and joins Venus and the Sun there.

Since Gemini energy is more nervous and restless, on the shadow side there can be more of tendency for us to become mentally scattered with Mercury here, especially if we go overboard on the multi-tasking and do not get enough rest. Mercury in Gemini is also insatiably curious and loves gathering and disseminating information.  This quality of mind can serve us particularly well now if we have any research or writing projects to do. It can also help us in any sales, cold-calling or promotional type work.

The Moon also continues a second day in sensitive, nesting Cancer making an early morning sextile to motivator Mars in productive Virgo (6:59 am EDT). This suggests that we can make excellent progress on the home front now, especially if we need to do some tidying or straightening up. Cleaning out the refrigerator especially comes to mind with the Moon in food-related Cancer. Venus here has a breezier style in relationships and often feels most comfortable when things are kept casual or friendly. Venus will stay in Gemini until August 7.

With the Moon taking up residency in “curious” Gemini (6:43 am EDT) the next couple of days, the sign of communication, we have a fresh opportunity to give our minds a thorough gymnastics workout.  Questioning the nature of things is always a good way to do this, which is something we can easily do in standard conversation, as long as we don’t push the envelope too much here and drive others away by perhaps overplaying the role of the devil’s advocate. Our minds have been compared to muscles, so the more we utilize them, the better chance we have to make them stronger.

Too, the Moon’s square to “psychedelic” Neptune (10:39 am EDT) provides us with a platform to examine our fantasies. Sometimes an extra challenge with Moon-Neptune is that we have to wade through distortions, or misrepresentations of facts. We also tend to be more idealistic with this influence, and our vulnerabilities may additionally be heightened. A simple Moon-Neptune question that is always good to to ask ourselves is, “Is this true beyond all doubt?” Or, alternately, “What supports the evidence here?” Also, if we don’t feel certain about things now, we may want to temporarily retreat or pause from taking any action. Give matters, perhaps, some time to gel. We may also need more time to collect all the facts and data. Sometimes Neptune’s ray tends to cloak or even glamorize things.

The Moon also rules how we interact with the public and often people who have Neptune aligned with the Moon have the ability to magically or charismatic relate to others.  In other words, it is easier for us to hypnotically go “under their spell.” Moon-Neptune can be exceptional energy for any actor or artist, as it can allow for the full immersion into the imagination. Neptune also rules visualization.

With the “communicative” Gemini Moon “out of step” with Saturn, Jupiter, the Sun, and Mars, we may want to do more listening than talking today as a conscious way to prevent or circumvent any possible rough patches in our relations. We may also want to strive for more clarity in our conversations making sure that we are correctly hearing what others are saying to us. So many times, our “people problems” stem from not really listening to each other intently, or from making erroneous assumptions about what was said. This may be especially the case with a “challenged” Gemini Moon which can incline us to be more reactive than reflective, and also perhaps not as mentally focused as we could be.
