Astrology March 5, 2022: Sun Conjuncts Jupiter

Cosmic Weather:

“How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world.” – William Shakespeare

This Saturday, the empowering Sun in transpersonal Pisces conjuncts magnifying Jupiter (9:06 am); optimally, a chance to cozy up to our more angelic side. Spreading around generous doses of goodwill, selflessly serving others in need are possible outlets or avenues of expression now that can hopefully help to provide us with a deeper feeling of connection and higher purpose. Jupiter, the biggest planet in our solar system, traditionally has had notable moral, religious, legal, educational, and cultural overtones to it; all elements, that for the most part, attempt to elevate or enrich our lives beyond the level of mere existence.

Jupiter spends about one year in each of the twelve zodiacal signs; too, today’s Sun-Jupiter in conjunction in the sign of Pisces has actually only occurred a few times in the past hundred years – so it’s a rare event! Looking back, one of the times when these two heavenly bodies were both conjunct in Pisces was in mid-March of 1963. A major “Jupiterian-themed” event did occur on March 18th, that year, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled (9-0), in the landmark case of Gideon v. Wainwright, that said that states are required to provide legal counsel to indigent defendants charged with a felony. (Pisces represents, among other things, those who are impoverished or down on their luck, victims’ rights, civil rights, the disenfranchised; it also governs places of confinement/care such as prisons and hospitals.)

In general, expansive Jupiter has been found to raise our levels of faith, hope, generosity, and optimism; it tugs at us to want to include more of the world around us in our daily lives. While Jupiter is also associated with luck or prosperity, that connection could also partially be the result of simply harboring a glass-half-full mindset (the notion being that you tend to get, what you expect!). The shadow side of Jupiter is linked with extravagance, overdoing, being too cocksure or arrogant, taking things for granted. Also, especially with the Sun-Jupiter conjunction in dreamy Pisces, there could be a tendency towards escapism, delusion, addiction, or gullibility.

“Don’t go in and hide; don’t come out and shine; stand stock-still in the middle.” – Zhuangzi

Meanwhile, the waxing Moon also remains in trail-blazing Aries today, priming us towards taking direct action on our desires. The ruler of Aries – the planet Mars – is also at the anaretic (or 29th degree) of ambitious Capricorn (along with social Venus), so we may feel more of a sense of urgency to complete things, concerned possibly that we are running out of time (also check your personal chart to see what area of your life might be involved here). Tomorrow, both Venus and Mars, the cosmic lovers, will enter unconventional Aquarius.

Astrology March 4, 2022: Luna in Aries Conjuncts Chiron

Cosmic Weather:

Waxing Luna shifted into self-focused, assertive Aries, yesterday evening, where she will stomp around until early Sunday morning. Luna in the sign of the Ram imparts boldness, directness, swiftness, and impulsiveness to our emotional expression.

The Aries Moon will also conjunct wounded healer Chiron this afternoon (3:12 pm). While this aspect may present us with a chance to build our confidence or assuredness in facing down our vulnerabilities or fears, in the interim it could also serve to temporarily amp up our level of sensitivity/moodiness and potentially take us a bit out of our wheelhouse – especially considering that the impatient Aries Moon characteristically prefers rapid responses/reactions to matters – something that is not always possible or even desirable when it comes to navigating the more complex, trickier emotional terrain.

Astrology March 1, 2022: Balsamic Moon, A Double-One Day

Cosmic Weather:

“If I speak of myself in different ways, that is because I look at myself in different ways.” – Michel de Montaigne

Today, 3-1-2022 is a “double-one” day numerologically, thought to bestow such qualities as purposefulness, leadership, creativity, and great determination to reach our goals. Typically, such a moment would also be deemed a propitious time to launch new beginnings; however, in the midst of a Balsamic Moon, it is thought best to occupy ourselves now with mainly future planning instead, as well as making space for quiet reflection and breaking down of the old, in preparation for tomorrow’s Pisces New Moon. Luna is also void of course in Aquarius today until its entrance into Pisces, later this afternoon (3:53 pm).

Shortly after midnight tonight, the Pisces Sun will also form an exact sextile with Uranus in Taurus (12:05 am), which suggests that today we will also perhaps feel more inclined towards donning new approaches or methods, going against convention, associating with people or alliances we may not normally gravitate towards possibly in an effort to stimulate and expose ourselves to different orientations or unfamiliar perspectives. Also, just being part of a larger whole now can feel much more meaningful and purposeful to us, especially when bound by shared interests.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On March 1, 1781, the Continental Congress officially adopts the Articles of Confederation, the first constitution of the United States of America after ratification by the 13th state, Maryland. The Articles of Confederation created a national government composed of a Congress, which had the power to declare war, appoint military officers, sign treaties, make alliances, appoint foreign ambassadors, and manage relations with Native Americans.

Astrologically, that day, transformational Pluto was in futuristic Aquarius, the sign of the collective, and exactly trine to envisioning Neptune in Libra. Motivator Mars and structuring Saturn were also conjunct in philosophical, big picture Sagittarius, excellent for laying down a solid foundation built upon or nurtured by our strongly held beliefs, convictions, and vision.

“If we are undone, we are the most splendidly ruined of any nation in the universe.” – Charles Thomson, secretary of the Continental Congress.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology February 28, 2022: Moon Squares Uranus, Conjuncts Saturn

Cosmic Weather:

“We must bend in the wind sometimes… So much is beyond our control.” Maggie Shipstead

We start out the last day of February on a bit of a rollercoaster ride! The waning Moon in collective-governing Aquarius is forming a hard square to its modern-day ruler erratic Uranus (8:50 am), which is deposited in the money and security sign of Taurus the Bull. (Interestingly, too, on a collective level, we have all the geopolitical financial sanctions going on now against Russia and many are not sure of how all of this will play out or impact the markets.)

Moon-Uranus, on the shadow side, is often associated with mood swings, rebelliousness, restlessness, the need for excitement. That said, it can also produce sudden insights or awakenings, fluctuations on the homefront.

Luna’s passage through Aquarius also serves to reactivate the ongoing but separating Saturn-Uranus square (i.e. a clash between the old and new), with Luna’s very last planetary stop of the day: a potent conjunction with “play-by-the-rules” Saturn (9:00pm); this is an aspect that could, among other things, help to present us with an unembellished reality check, possibly resulting in our temporarily adopting more of a stoic-type attitude, as we ponder our next moves.

“Nothing, to my way of thinking, is a better proof of a well-ordered mind than a man’s ability to stop just where he is and pass some time in his own company.” – Seneca

After Luna conjuncts Saturn it will also embark upon a long void-of-course period until its entrance into Pisces, tomorrow afternoon (3:53 pm).

Meanwhile, both Venus and Mars in Capricorn are also trining the growth-oriented North Node in Taurus today, a nice aspect of ease and flow that could pleasantly manifest a robust opportunity for us to take practical and meaningful action steps towards our future and the person we wish to become.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On February 28, 1953, molecular biologists Francis Crick and James Watson discover the chemical structure of the DNA-molecule (double-helix polymer).

Astrologically, that day, energizing Mars was in pioneering Aries and separating (less than one degree) from an exact square to breakthrough Uranus in Cancer, providing an abundance of creative and inventive energy. (When Steve Jobs co-founded Apple Computer, Mars in Cancer was also exactly trine to Uranus in Scorpio, the planet which rules technology.) Meanwhile, expansive Jupiter in Taurus was also just separating, on 2/28/53, from an exact sextile to Uranus. Over the years, Jupiter-Uranus aspects have been linked with various modern advances and leaps forwad including the first US spacewalk on the Moon by astronaut Neil Armstrong, on July 21, 1969, which took place when Jupiter and Uranus were exactly conjunct at 0 degrees of Libra.

In 1962, Crick and Watson, along with Maurice Wilkins would go on to win the Nobel Prize for Medicine for their work in determining the structure of DNA.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends—
It gives a lovely light!” – Edna St. Vincent Millay

This Sunday morning finds the waning Moon hovering over (conjuncting) the current lineup in self-determined Capricorn, which consists of social Venus (4:06 am), assertive Mars (5:06 am), and concentrated Pluto (9:49 am); perhaps a test run of what’s going to occur Thursday when both Mars and Venus conjoin transformative Pluto in the sky.

On the plus side, there is more prompting/possibility now to adeptly marshall our energies and focus diligently on the tasks before us; preferably, also retiring those activities, plans, or interests that no longer serve us on our journey, as we prepare for the replenishing New Moon in Pisces, March 2nd. On the shadow side now, we may feel things too deeply, or darkly, or take matters to extremes.

That said, Venus is also pairing up nicely today with dedicated Vesta – the official, symbolic keeper of the flame – in Capricorn (2:25 pm), potentially making it easier and more pleasant to attract/focus on our work, our priorities, or the things that we love and want more of in our life.

“Your life is a beautiful blank canvas. You have the choice of splashing it with the most gorgeous and spectacular colors, by doing what you love.” – Hiral Nagda

Luna also will enter reform-minded Aquarius, this afternoon (1:36 pm).

*All Times EST

On This Day in History: On Feb. 27, 1922, the Supreme Court, in Leser v. Garnett, unanimously upheld the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which guaranteed the right of women to vote.

Astrologically, that day, there was a New Moon (new beginnings) in unifying Pisces, with the empowering Sun, liberating Uranus, feminine Venus, and maternal Luna, all closely conjunct and trine to evolutionary Pluto in Cancer. Over the years, Uranus and Pluto have been instrumental in fostering, ushering in radical social changes.

Decision-maker Mercury, in collectively-minded Aquarius, was also forming a one-degree trine to inclusive Jupiter in Libra, the zodiacal sign signifying the courts and scales of justice. Traditionally, Jupiter, the planet of opportunity, has also been perceived as representing our sense of ethics or our moral compass; wanting to make things better as a whole for all. Of course, there’s not always universal agreement on how precisely to achieve this. 🙂

“There never will be complete equality until women themselves help to make laws and elect lawmakers.” Susan B. Anthony

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well. Let’s all pray for world peace.

Astrology February 26, 2022: Waning Luna Remains in Capricorn

Cosmic Weather:

“If I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.” Mahatma Gandhi

This Saturday, waning Luna – now in her crescent phase – remains all day long in serious, capable Capricorn, the surefooted sign of the goat. Being responsible, doing what is required of us, having the ability to make judgment calls in difficult situations are natural themes. Additionally, there is some willingness to explore new realms, adopt new practices, as Luna trines progressive Uranus in Taurus (6:40 am) and sextiles philosophical Jupiter in transpersonal Pisces (9:43 am). The Moon-Jupiter influence may also poise us to lean more into our faith or inspire us to make personal sacrifices for the perceived greater good. There may also be a desire to share with others some of the life lessons that we have learned, with the Moon in her disseminating stage.

All times EST

This Day in History: On February 26, 1616, the Roman Inquisition delivers an injunction to astronomer and physicist Galileo Galilei demanding he abandons his belief in heliocentrism, which states the Earth and planets revolve around the Sun. At the time, Galileo had the transiting Mars, in scientifically-minded Aquarius, applying two degrees to an exact square to his natal Mars in Taurus and quincunx to his natal Jupiter in Cancer. Mars aspects often challenge us to vigorously defend ourselves – including specifically having to defend our beliefs, when aligned with Jupiter – the planet which symbolizes our worldviews as well as areas pertaining to the cosmos and outer space.

Born On This Day: The late iconic country singer and performer Johnny Cash, in 1932, in Kingsland, Arkansas. Cash’s long musical career spanned from 1954 to 2003; during that time he recorded 91 albums and 170 singles. Some of Cash’s most famous songs: Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire, and I Walk The Line.

In Johnny Cash’s birth chart, Jupiter, in entertainment Leo, was exactly conjunct his sixth house cusp of work and artisanship – no doubt playing a role in his prolific musical output and talent; Jupiter, by its expansive nature, tends to magnify everything it touches. This planet was also exactly trine to his natal Venus/Uranus conjunction in bold, pioneering Aries, perhaps adding to his originality, artistic flair, and special brand of personal charisma. Interestingly, the late legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor was born just one day after Cash and reportedly sent him a telegram on his birthday, every year.

Hope it’s a good one. Please be safe and well.

Astrology February 23, 2022: Mars Sextiles Neptune, Last Quarter Moon

Tags

, , ,

Cosmic Weather:

“Look at everything always as though you were seeing it either for the first or last time: Thus is your time on earth filled with glory.” – Betty Smith, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

On this glorious “hump day,” we are treated to a waning Luna entering philosophical, freedom-loving Sagittarius (8:29 am).

Energizing Mars in Capricorn is also forming a waning sextile to dreamy Neptune in Pisces (2:12 pm). There is an infusion of practical wherewithal and yearning to pursue our dreams in a more creative or imaginative way. Our actions may also be guided more by compassion or caring for the underdog. We are also possibly more tempted to overlook or forgive grievances/transgressions in a bid to foster or usher in healing. One shadow side here: We may be more prone to engaging in delusional or too fanciful behavior now, which is why we may want to wait for certain things to gel before going all in on something that is relatively new or untested. It is also probably a good thing that Mars is deposited in “show-me-the-money” Capricorn, as it may help us remain more tethered to the ground.

Finally, we have the Last Quarter Moon occurring this afternoon (5:32 pm). With Luna decreasing in light, this is generally not the time for embarking on new beginnings; rather, it is a period for applying finishing touches as well as for re-assessing or updating what we have recently learned or been made aware of. Our understanding of what we deem to be the truth could also be shifting.

Born On This Day: Naruhito, Emperor of Japan, in 1960, in Tokyo, Japan. He succeeded to the Chrysanthemum Throne on May 1, 2019, following the abdication of his father, Akihito, the day before, beginning the Reiwa period. According to Japan’s traditional order of succession, he is the 126th member of the dynasty.

(Naruhito ascended to the throne in the midst of his second Saturn return in Capricorn. Transiting Saturn was also exactly conjunct his natal sixth house, governing work or duties, often a time of new responsibilities as well as a period when our day-to-day life can become more entangled.

Hope it’s a good one! Please stay safe and well.

Astrology for Twosday 2-22-2022: Luna in Scorpio Squares Saturn

Cosmic Weather:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.” Marianne Williamson

Waning Luna, in strategic Scorpio, is still holed up in her Gibbous phase dugout and throwing a “square-ball” to utilitarian Saturn in detached Aquarius (11:53 am). The atmosphere may feel a little tense now as both of these cosmic players are going at each other in fixed signs. That said, this may be a good time to take stock of our resources, including eliminating any redundancies or deadweight. We also may choose now to stick with what we know has worked for us in the past as well as collaborate closely with those who have already managed to earn our respect and trust. As the day progresses, flowing lunar aspects to relationship Venus (4:55 pm), assertive Mars (5:58 pm), and imaginative Neptune (7:00 pm) help to create more of a renewing sense of rich possibilities around us. “It’s the possibility that keeps me going, not the guarantee.” – Nicholas Sparks.

Numerologically, the fact that it’s “2-22-2022” is also all the buzz today – this Twosday – with Tuesday also being the 2nd day of the week! The “number 22” is considered to be a Master Number and represents the Master Builder/Master Architect. It’s the number that is said to bring grand visions to life in the material world. The Chinese people also view the “number two” as very auspicious, believing good things come in pairs. With that said, today we may want to consider setting an intention (or maybe two intentions!) for ourselves around something that is more meaningful or consequential to us. Something that perhaps feels very much a part of our own special destiny. Author J.K. Rowling once quipped that destiny “is a name often given in retrospect to choices that had dramatic consequences.”

“Never apologize for showing your feelings. When you do, you are apologizing for the truth.” – Jose N. Harris

We start out our Monday catching a nice break from the Waning Moon in Scorpio trining the Sun in Pisces (9:27 am EST), an influence that hopefully allows us to feel more emotionally at ease with ourselves, and more inclined to show or reveal more of our intimate side, depending on the situation around us. Luna in Scorpio, by nature, generally tends to be more circumspect or guarded regarding who she lets into her inner circle; the Sun in Pisces intrinsically promotes more of a willingness to dissolve or blur the boundaries in a bid to foster a sense of oneness or immersion.

Intellectual Mercury in Aquarius is also semi-square Neptune in Pisces (10:13 am EST), suggesting some muddled communications or messages to wade through. In any case, if the facts don’t add up or we intuitively sense that something is missing or incomplete, we may want to victoriously hit the pause button, until more is known.

Born on This Day: French writer Anais Nin, in 1903. She once wrote: “We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”

Cosmic Weather:

Luna is spending a second full day in sentimental Cancer. Meaning we prefer to be surrounded by what is familiar or comfortable. The Sun is also having its annual conjunction with the South Node of the Moon (the past) in the philosophical sign of Sagittarius (2:03 pm). It could be that we conclude now, for whatever reason, that some of our beliefs or convictions may no longer be serving us, and we need to move on. Also, maybe examining or questioning those areas where we “need to be right” or “tend to prejudge” might also be very instructive now in helping us get to the core of what may be shaping our behavior or making us think or act as we do.
