COSMIC WEATHER:

Energy planet Mars, symbolically depicting the urge for self-assertion, takes the big plunge and officially sky-rockets into hi-tech, futuristic Aquarius, the opinionated, scientific home of wacky astronomers waxing delusional and very bitterly about 13 zodiacal signs. (See link below)  Mars will stay in this sign until February 22nd.

With Mars in Aquarius, a sign which represents cultural diversity and “changing things up,” we are eager to venture off into unchartered waters, as long as we are able to cart along, of course, our smart phones and other technological gadgetry. Aquarius rules innovation and invention, especially more of a scientific or technological nature.

Theoretically we “progress” now by embracing or cultivating change, and utilizing new approaches or strategies in our daily endeavors. As part of this orientation we may want to collaborate with more original-type thinkers, or more non-comforming types, to get a fresh take on things.  We may want also to expand our networking efforts now and get involved more with group causes, or group ventures (Aquarius rules groups and friends). Mars in Aquarius = energy for groups.

The Moon also enters curious, loquacious Gemini today. In Gemini, the Moon provides us with more of a penchant and willingness for flexibility. In other words, more of an ability to go with the flow. We’re not as rigid now, and we’re also wanting to physically move around. We have more of a capacity to see the humor in any situation, too, as this Moon tends to be more light-hearted and likes to laugh. Humor is a positive trait that often gets overlooked, but it’s something that can come in handy for coping with the mighty stresses and woes of living in Madonna’s material world, but, unfortunately, without Madonna’s nifty checkbook to tote around.

Questions to entertain with Mars deposited in Aquarius:

How are we about embracing change? Do we welcome new strategies, or prefer to stick with the tried-and-true?

Can we recall a time when we tried a new approach with something and it saved the day for us?

Is there any one area in our life now that could perhaps benefit by employing new methods? What about changing aspects of our sex life? Mars does rule sex. Hmmmm. Sex life??? Can’t quite recall what that’s all about? ::scratches head::

If we could change one thing about ourselves, what would it be? Our nose? Our brain? The pattern of our fingerprints?

How are we at interfacing with groups of people? Comfortable? Uncomfortable?

Are we more of a leader, or a follower?

Are there any social or humanitarian causes that we could maybe get involved with now? Aquarius pertains to immersion in matters that benefit the collective.

What is the most off-the-wall thing we have done in the past year? Have we even done anything off-the-wall, lately? If not, why not? Could it be that we are packaged too tightly, and that we should give ourselves permission to roam around a little, or a lot? Especially when we are trying to locate the ever-elusive George Clooney.

With Mars in Aquarius, this is the time to take bold, decisive action to get out of our ruts. Out of our stagnation. We should never allow ourselves to think that change is not possible for us. It is, and now is the time to seek out that change! This is also an excellent time for putting new systems or procedures into place. In other words, erecting new infrastructure.

One project that I personally intend to do now is get rid of the ancient computer PC in my home-office. I never use it. All it does it sit on the computer table taking up space. This scenario has been going on for over a year now, ever since I got my new laptop, because I have been terrified at the thought of having to deal with all the plugs and cords, etc. plugged into the computer. Plus, I don’t know how to clean the hard drive. I have decided now, though, that with Mars in hi-tech Aquarius I am going to somehow figure out how to proceed here and get rid of the frickin’ thing. Free up the chi energy around me. In fact, I am resolving to go through every room in my house and purge. I want the environment “different” around me now. I want to tap into the newness and freshness of Mars in Aquarius.

Venus Sextile Neptune: The Young and The Restless Debuts

Couldn’t let this day pass without mentioning that December 23rd is the 37th anniversary of television’s, The Young and The Restless, which debuted back in 1973, and is still going strong.

Today, we’re also checking out some of the cosmic energy of that day, to see why maybe that show has endured for so long. And why it was perhaps able to “hook us” in the first place.

Mackenzie: “What does this mean – “wedding vows”‘?

J.T.: “Oh, Brittany wants me to help write hers.”

Mackenzie: “She wants you to help her?”

J.T.: “What, you didn’t think Bobby knew how to read or write?”

Mackenzie: “That’s mean.”

J.T.: “Yeah, it’s not far from the truth. But don’t worry.  I’m sure he’ll hire whoever writes those flyers for the strip club. It’ll be like the raunchiest vows ever, and I’m sure the minister will probably pass out.”

On December 23, 1973, when The Young and The Restless debuted, Venus, the mythological “Goddess of Love,” was exactly sextile “Fantasy” Neptune, the planet which also rules the television camera. Venus was in friendly, freedom-loving Aquarius. Aquarius is also a sign known for broadcasting and technology. Neptune was in wanderlust Sagittarius, a sign that is additionally very good at spinning imaginative tales and story lines. (The emotional Moon was also in “alibi” Sag that day.) The sextile is normally regarded as a more harmonious aspect of “opportunity.”

Venus-Neptune aspects tend to coincide with a mindset in which we are much more willing, and really wanting, to believe in “fairy tales” (escapist soap opera plots). We are also more inclined to want to search out an “ideal love.” No matter that the object of our desires may be “imaginary,” or otherwise “off limits” to us. Perhaps a hunky character on a soap opera?

Most of us have had imaginary lovers, at some point, in our lives. Wild fantasies about persons “unavailable” to us? George Clooney, of course, immediately comes to mind here. However, we existentially do know, in this particular case, that this “Clooney pipe dream,” may actually some day still come to pass. It could be that it just takes many more earthly incarnations to materialize.  But, it’s okay. We have the time. Rome wasn’t built overnight. Great things take time and careful planning. And, sometimes, a lot of fervent prayer. Along with daily visualization, meditation, and fasting. Occasionally we have to strike back-alley deals, too, with questionable saints, in order to get our needs met. (Would you believe, Neptune also rules saints and gurus, priestly-type figures? This is true.)

That is how Venus-Neptune tends to operate. It seldom ever “surrenders the dream.” Rarely quits on the “romantic illusion.” It will go to unbelievable measures to secure or retain its fantasy. Interesting to note here that Neptune also rules our “addictions.” Neptune, coincidentally, additionally depicts “real-life people” who are employed as actors, or other persons professionally engaged in careers that stoke our imagination, such as poets, dancers, and artists. So, we had more of a proclivity to “fall for” the “make-believe” characters in the show, with the program debuting when it did.

Neptune is also our magical “link to the divine” and whispers to us of having a “divine compassion” for all. Venus-Neptune can be highly compassionate. But, on the flip side, there is also the proclivity to “play martyr or victim.” Elements, too, that work very well in television-based soap operas.

Too, love maven Venus was in a tight harmonious trine to transforming, controlling Pluto in Libra when this show premiered. With Venus-Pluto, we usually fully experience all the highs and lows of romantic drama. The compulsiveness, the obsessions, the deepest of passions. Venus was also applying to a conjunction with expander Jupiter in Aquarius, considered to be one of the most romantic and fortuitous aspects of all, as Jupiter grows whatever it is paired with and aligned with romantic Venus, our love and affection knows no bounds. The Young and The Restless characters will also never run out of people to have “real or imagined” affairs with.

Lastly, Virile Mars, ruling sex and our physical desires, was also deposited in impetuous Aries ( the sign that it rules) at 29 degrees, the very last degree of the sign.  Making the young, “very restless.” And, ever more reason to watch them on TV.

Mercury Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn: Julian Assange Arrested

WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, was reportedly arrested by British Police in London today at 9:30 am on a warrant issued by Swedish authorities. Assange is wanted for allegedly committing sex crimes with two women, which he denies. Assange is slated to appear before a magistrate’s court in London later today. It should also be noted that Assange has not formally be charged with anything. He also voluntarily turned himself into authorities today.

Fascinatingly, and ironically, Assange, who is responsible for leaking hundreds of diplomatic U.S. cables just last week, was busted with a 5 degree Capricorn rising “event horoscope” (erected for 9:30 am in London today), which puts the North Node, Mercury, Pluto, and the Moon all exactly conjunct the rising.

I always affectionately label Pluto as the “Grand Master Spy,” as Pluto tends to deliver to us dark, foreboding secrets. Whatever has been buried or submerged is brought to the surface with Pluto i.e. classified information or documents, or people who have “been in hiding.”

Historically, Pluto is linked with spies and espionage.  Also, terrorism or any “hidden factions” that use force. Pluto seems to operate more as a “control freak” or “power monger.” It is very fanatical and obsessed in its focus. It’s wanting to “call the shots” at all cost. What is often revealed through “purging” Pluto usually has “life-altering” or “transforming” ramifications for people and circumstances, and even the world at large.  Pluto rules “the masses.” Also, death, destruction, and rebirth.

Mercury rules news and communication and when aligned with Pluto, we classically hear about “Pluto” issues in the news: death, annihilation, crisis or turning point situations, sex, spying and espionage, captures, manipulation, abuses of power, history-making firsts or breakthroughs. Too, Mercury-Pluto topics can sometimes be characterized as those areas that are more historically “taboo” or “off-limits” to openly speak about, due to their more sensitive nature, like issues of sex or death.

The first house or ascendant in a horoscope deals with “new beginnings” and the immediate issues that are before us on the horizon. So having all these bodies: Moon, Mercury, North Node and Pluto, conjoined the ascendant, at the exact time of Assange’s arrest today, further brought these “undercover” or “spy” matters front and center (nature of Pluto) in our consciousness and instantly playing out in the news worldwide (Mercury-Pluto).

Symbolically, that cosmic line-up could be interpreted as “someone who makes his living exposing secrets” is making news at the moment (ascendant).  Too, Pluto is implicated in sex crimes, or situations in which sex is “forced.”

Scorpio, which is the offical sign of sex, a sign that Pluto also rules, is at the very top of this event chart, or on the tenth house cusp, with “love Goddess” Venus, ruling women, in a wide conjunction with the tenth.

Interestingly, relationship Venus is also moving into an exact sextile to Pluto now in the heavens.  Venus-Pluto can indicate “passionate” or “steamy” romance. Also, Venus-Pluto can often be symbolic of a relationship that contains “manipulative” aspects to it, once again due to the “controlling” nature of Pluto.

On another fascinating level, with this Venus-Pluto aspect manifesting now, and Assange’s alleged tryst with these two women simultaneously crescendoing to the forefront, Venus-Pluto is symbolically having the net affect of putting “sex” and “matters of the heart” center stage for the collective to mull over and perhaps talk about. Very interesting from an astrological lens.
