“Bad human communication leaves us less room to grow.” Rowan D. Williams
The pace of life notably quickens today as the Moon vacates steady Taurus for restless Gemini (7:22 am EDT), the chatty sign of communication. A time when we are more apt to want to articulate our feelings (Moon) and to also want to make “small talk,” and to kid around. The Gemini Moon is normally a period when we heartily enjoy sharing our ready stash of “one-liners.”
(Here’s one: “The man bought his wife a water bed. She calls it the “‘Dead Sea!'”)
As soon as the Moon enters Gemini, she forms a tight square to psychedelic Neptune in dreamy Pisces (7:32 am EDT), so it could be that our early morning communications are a little “spacey,” or somewhat weird or distorted (more chance of some confusion). Although Moon-Neptune does turn the volume up really high on our creative imagination and pleasure-laden fantasies. Soon afterward we also have a chance to showcase our originality, even our genius, when Luna makes an opportunity sextile to liberating, inventive Uranus in adventurous Aries (10:19 am EDT).
Another lunar highlight of the day is the Moon’s buoyant sextile to energizer Mars in Aries (3:56 pm EDT), a time when we will want to be fully engaging both our minds (Gemini) and our bodies (Aries) in things we enjoy. The Moon-Mars link also incites our competitive instincts.
Additionally, we have relationship Venus in idealistic, caring Pisces forming an awkward 150-degree aspect (quinqunx) to hard-liner Saturn in Venus-ruled matrimonial Libra. It could be that we are feeling somewhat uncomfortable or victimized (Pisces) by the demands (Saturn) that others (Libra) are placing on us now. We may need to reach some kind of compromise to preserve the peace (Libra).
Interestingly enough, the “compromising” sign of Libra also rules the U.S. Congress and today things are down to the wire with respect to needing to reach some kind of agreement regarding the federal budget, otherwise ‘nonessential” services of the U.S. govt will be shutting down. Of course, too, Pluto (ruling debt) is getting ready to station retrograde in governmental Capricorn (exact early Saturday EDT), another force at play here. We are also being fed media reports on how a “scaled-down” (purging Pluto) U.S. government would operate. On the other hand, with Sun conjunct “feel good” Jupiter yesterday, the U.S. stock market reached a two-year high. Go figure.
Famous Birthdays April 7:David Frost (72), James Garner (83). This astrologer has had a major, life-long crush on James Garner. It started when I was a child and used to watch him in the hit TV series “Maverick.” Then, later, I watched him in the “Rockford Files.” I always wanted to meet a man like James, but never did. BTW, James Garner was born with the Sun exactly conjunct Jupiter in Aries, the same expansive aspect that we just had yesterday and that I also blogged about. Can’t believe it, James is 83! Hope it’s a good one, Jim. Love ya!

COSMIC WEATHER:
It’s day two of the stable, practical, high-caloric Taurus Moon. With the Moon here in the sign of money and possessions, we want our cake and expect to eat it, too. Taurus is all about enjoying creature comforts while simultaneously building up a cushy little nest egg. We are not really into doing anything that will jeopardize our security.
HOWEVER, with that said, we also are presently grappling with the powering Sun, mental Mercury, assertive Mars, and delusional Neptune in idealistic, freedom-loving, “power-to-the-people” Aquarius. We also have expansive Jupiter in pioneering Aries manically out on the prairie in a covered wagon. The compilation of all these cosmic elements may force the Taurus Moon a bit out of her traditional comfort zone today and may spell disaster for us if we think we can just idly chill out on the couch watching the boob tube. It’s likely not going to happen, bro. Instead, we may be pressured to incorporate some wicked elements of “change,” or at least some measure of “conservative action” into our daily agendas, compliments of a schizoid universe. 🙂
Coincidentally, today is also the opening day of the “Conservative Political Action Conference” (CPAC) which is being held in Washington, DC February 10-12. Kind of an appropriate “synchronistic” tie-in for the current celestial happenings.

COSMIC WEATHER: January 11th through the 16th
Mental Mercury (communication) and manic Mars (aggressive urge) are hogging most of the astrological press this week. That’s okay. We’ll respectfully give them their fifteen minutes.
Mercury wraps up its stay in visionary Sagittarius, dutifully heading for the ambitious, goat-studded hills of Saturn-ruled Capricorn (January 13th). Our thoughts become more practical, more focused.
Also, self-assertive Mars shifts out of conforming Capricorn for Aquarius’ more non-conforming terrain (January 15th), which is psychedelically-peppered, at this time, with aging hippies, awkwardly still trying to “do their own thing,” despite all the intense years of pot-smoking and skinny-dipping. Uranus-ruled Aquarius, a sign that likes to wickedly “bend the rules,” fully embraces diversity, even the die-hard, hippie kind. It’s probably a good thing, too, that the hippies at least have a place to go to, a sign to “call home.”
With Mars in Aquarius now, too, it’s possible that we could even temporarily befriend one or two of these tie-dyed beings. Maybe help them to find their way, or whatever it is that they still are looking for. Maybe another Woodstock? Could be they are sticking around to see the re-emergence of bell-bottoms as a major, hot fashion trend?
January 11th: Talker Mercury meets up with big hips Jupiter in blabbermouth Sagittarius. The end result: No one gets to have the last word on anything! Steady diet of redundant chatter permeates the air everywhere. Unless we have plenty of time on our hands, it’s best to refrain from asking anyone about their personal religious or political beliefs, or about anything controversial, for that matter, as we will likely be going at each other’s throat until the cows come home. Too, we tend to zealously over-estimate our humble abilities now, i.e. bite off more than we can chew, both literally and symbolically.
Also, we need to carefully, and systematically, scrutinize documents and contracts closely, before putting our ‘John or Mary Doe’ on them. With Mercury-Jupiter, we tend to “gloss over details,” as we’re thinking too much about the “big picture.” Mercury-Jupiter is all too often linked with misunderstandings because we tend to get sloppy or arrogant in our thinking and assume too much.
Moon in pioneering Aries still has us “blazing new trails,” although the opposition to taskmaster Saturn (8:48 pm EST) may temporarily put a roadblock in our path.
Questions to ask ourselves today: Do we tend to talk too much? Often put our foot in our mouth? What shuts us up quickly? What is our favorite topic to talk about?
January 12th: We are much more likely to feel comfortable taking unorthodox approaches with things, especially on the professional front, as we have enterprising Mars in industrious Capricorn sextile to innovative, freedom-seeking Uranus in creative Pisces. Job seekers may want to try new strategies today, particularly utilizing opportunities provided by social networking (Uranus rules the internet).
We all tend to shine more by inserting our clever originality into the picture, instead of mindlessly subscribing to the fuddy duddy status quo. The Universe is beckoning, actually clamoring for us today, to deviate from the norm. To venture outside of our cozy, designer-decorated boxes. Too, if we are up to serious mingling with others, we may get a chance to interface with highly progressive types, who can really move us forward, with their ingenious, if not wacky, off-the-wall ways of thinking.
For those of us who still maintain an active, or even a semi-active sex life (ruled by Mars), that intimate activity could possibly become more exciting now by trying out new, inventive “night moves” in the bedroom. Or, we may want to continue doing the same, sexy little things that we always do under the sheets, but with new lovers. Mars-Uranus likes to experiment, and also endows us with more of a scientific bent. Just pray that white laboratory mice don’t somehow enter into our nighttime equation.
The Moon also vacates accelerator Aries for lusty, self-indulgent Taurus (10:37 pm EST), which also may help our feverish, nocturnal meanderings. Chocolate, too, may be an especially heady aphrodisiac now. (Moon is in Taurus till the 15th.)
Probing questions to consider today: What is sex? Is it something we engaged in at one time with another person? Is there anything we can do now to hasten the return of it to our lives, now that we finally have this good Mars aspect?
January 13th: Our enthusiasm knows no bounds as sexy, go-getter Mars sextiles fortuitous, expansive Jupiter, who is likely toting a large bag of goodies for us. This is a super aspect! Great time to forge ahead with important projects, get things done, especially anything business-related, as Mars is still in ambitious Capricorn, which rules status, career, and reputation. Also a more positive time for dealing with bankers, members of the military, politicians, journalists, writers, publishers, lawyers, teachers, travel agents, clergy, and athletes. Physical fitness and sports-related activities additionally get the green light. We’re loving competition now, as it gives us a golden chance to strut our hot stuff all over the place!
Our thoughts also become more pragmatic and serious today with Mercury’s return to utilitarian Capricorn, where it will stay until February 3rd. We excel now by adopting a communication style that is more purposeful and strategizing. It is also critical now that we let others know exactly what it is that we are hoping to accomplish with respect to our major goals. A time to enlist the support of higher-ups to our causes.
Possible questions to ponder now: What floats our boat? What gets us excited? If we could magically do anything today, what would we do? What are our goals for 2011? What can we do this very day that will help to move us forward, closer to attaining those goals?
January 14th: Moon continues in acquisition-minded Taurus. We may want to focus on ways to build up our nest egg, while simultaneously luxuriating around the house in our silk pajamas. The Taurus Moon is all about creature comforts. Also a good time to work with the earth, or for fashioning things from clay.
Things to think about today: Are we satisfied with our present financial situation? Do we have enough money coming in to meet our needs? Are there any steps that we can take now to make us feel more secure? In our quest for material security, should we try to perhaps get on the Oprah Show, before she goes off the air, in hopes that she will be characteristically playing Santa again in the near future? Maybe we should also go so far as to suggest to Oprah that she make every future Oprah show, this 2011 season, a “favorite things show,” since this is her last go round and lucky Jupiter is still technically aligned with Oprah’s ruling planet, Uranus, which also rules broadcasting (Oprah is an Aquarian). Point out to her that it is “clearly written in the stars” for her to keep playing Santa now, since Jupiter rules Santa Claus, and she is in Uranian-ruled broadcasting. Tell her that this Jupiter-Uranus configuration is the very “believe in miracles” aspect that she is always talking about.
It’s very cool, too, that with the Jupiter-Uranus aspect exact to the minute last week, “St. Nick” Oprah publicly discussed making “Ted Williams,” an ex-radio announcer, the official voice of the OWN network. Got to love Ted’s timing. Uranus rules radio announcers, with the Jupiter-Uranus here, helping to miraculously sweeten their lot in in life. Glad for all the success and love swirling around Ted Williams now.
January 15th: Pioneering Mars takes the plunge and skyrockets into hi-tech, futuristic Aquarius. We are eager to venture off into unchartered waters. Progress is made now by embracing change and collaborating with original thinkers. The Moon also enters curious, airy Gemini, a plus for the more impromptu, convention-defying Mars in cerebral Aquarius.
Questions to entertain today: How are we about embracing change? Do we welcome new strategies, or prefer to stick with the tried-and-true? Is there any one area in our life now that would perhaps benefit by employing new methods? What is the most off-the-wall thing we have done in the past year? Have we even done anything off-the-wall? If not, why not?
January 16th: Moon continues in cheerful, chatterbox Gemini. Conversation, short trips can stimulate. An important bond or tie could also be formed with the Moon’s magical trine to stabilizing Saturn in partnership Libra (3:47 pm EST). A perfect time then to communicate our more serious intentions.
Questions to possibly grapple with today: Is there something, a subject matter, that we have been dying to talk about, for a while now, but have been hesitant to? What has been holding us back from having this conversation? What are some of our favorite words? If we had to describe ourselves in one word, what would that word be?
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” Mary Engelbreit.

“He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still.” Lao Tzu
“Well, it’s back to the daily grind for most of us today, as we get ready for the big eclipse new moon tomorrow. Regrettably, no more time to sit around and idly fantasize about George Clooney.
Fittingly today, we have the Moon in “busy bee” Capricorn (2:39 am EST) goading us on to be more productive. The main focus today is the Moon’s powerful conjunction to “Wikileaks’ director of intelligence” Pluto (12:42 pm EST), which can get us secretly involved with an array of clandestine power or control issues, particularly in the workplace. And, especially if we work for or around Hillary Clinton. 🙂
With Moon-Pluto, we often need to feel a heady sense of our own power and self-worth, and sometimes we try to achieve this by manipulating or controlling others, which can, of course, painfully backfire, triggering immense power struggles and vicious food fights. Especially since this conjunction is occurring about lunch time on the east coast, and in the D.C. area. So we need to tread carefully. Better, too, as Lao Tzu says, that we should seek to master ourselves instead. Especially maybe strive for more insight into whatever it is that is driving our desires. Pluto’s activated ray brings to the surface submerged emotions and feelings.
We may also want to see today if we can purge or eliminate (Pluto) redundant tasks or work duties, in a bid to become more self-managed and efficient. Always with Pluto, it is a good idea to try to pare things down, get rid of the bloat and excess. This includes, too, very discreetly passing any nasty, odorous digestive gas that may have been building up inside of us during the holidays. I also realize that this is a very delicate topic to discuss here, and am only doing so out of genuine concern for our physical well-being. Pluto does govern all forms of the excretion process, while the Moon rules food.
Additionally, it’s an excellent time for recycling. Pitch those things that we don’t want to have around us in 2011. An item that immediately comes to mind here: The bathroom scale! Get rid of the wicked thing!
In closing, here’s a perfect tie-in for today’s “budget-minded” Capricorn Moon. The front page of the Wall Street Journal, which reads: “Congress Targets Spending.” Pure delight to the tightwad Capricorn Moon’s eyes! Of course, we also have the Sun, Mars, and the previously alluded to “Pluto” in Capricorn, too. Adding even more zeal and passion to the budget-cutting process.
Some questions to maybe ask ourselves today:
Do we need to reign in our own personal spending?
What can we somewhat painlessly eliminate from our daily lives, that will have the net affect of putting more money in our pockets, at the end of each month?
Can we perhaps find new uses for old things, especially limpid male body parts?
Do we need to maybe start parting our hair on the right side now, in wake of the new republican-led congress in the U.S.?
The next question may be a bit of a stretch, but here it is: With the Moon in “teeth-ruling” Capricorn conjunct perceptive Pluto, should we maybe pay closer attention to how people eat and chew their food today, and perhaps note, for statistical and public health purposes, how many of them get noticeable food particles tragically trapped in their teeth? And what to do about it, if they do? Should we kindly chime in to a stranger in a restaurant, “Hey, buddy, I casually noticed you have a big, unsighly chunk of green spinach beside your front tooth that needs to immediately come out! Here’s some floss!” Maybe tell them, too, that we’re afraid if the spinach stays lodged in there for too long, it could become something permanent, and eventually that frightening reality could lead to massive epidemics of other people suffering the same plight. 🙂

On November 13, 1979: Ronald Reagan announces in New York his candidacy for president. The empowering Sun is in transformational Scorpio and exactly conjunct unconventional Uranus; an influence associated with breaking free from limitations and striking out on a new path
The Sun, as ruler of Leo, represent leaders and authority figures, while Uranus, as ruler of forward-looking Aquarius (Reagan’s Sun-sign), signifies change and radical new ideas/approaches. Scorpio is also the sign that rules taxes, debt, credit, and investments.
On days when the Sun and Uranus are conjoined, we may witness a departure from the past, in terms of leadership matters as well as sudden developments.
Reagan went on to win the U.S. presidency, the following year, and ended up serving two complete terms in office from January 21, 1981 to January 21, 1989. His presidency has been termed the “Reagan Revolution” (Uranus) as it was regarded to have initiated a “political realignment” both within the U.S. and beyond in favor of his brand of conservatism and free markets.
Pioneering Mars was also strong in theatrical Leo that day, and Reagan was previously “an actor” before becoming governor of California. Mars in Leo can usher in more “colorful” and “charismatic” leadership.
The Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and the North Node were also all in practical, “no frills” Virgo, maybe helping to foster more an acceptance of a message, on the part of the public, of a more “scaled down” type of government agenda and economic philosophy.
“Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.” Ronald Reagan

October 15, 1969 – The “Vietnam Moratorium” is held. Millions of people protest the war (including Bill Clinton, who was a student at Oxford then). In the heavens, passionate “Warrior” Mars in Capricorn, the sign of government, is exactly square to “Philosophical” Jupiter in Libra, the sign of peace and diplomacy.
“Mars-Jupiter” is an aspect with a great history of “firing up our passions and idealism.” Mars, the energy planet, energizes whatever it touches and Jupiter represents our moral beliefs. We are willing to “do combat” (Mars) for “what we believe in” now (Jupiter), similar to the energy of today’s Aquarius Moon which speaks to us about getting involved in causes “greater than ourselves.” With the Vietnam Moratorium, the protesters peacefully dissented (diplomatic Libra) against the “war policies”of the government (Mars in Capricorn). Mars rules war and the military.
Often Mars-Jupiter is associated with “religious fanaticism,” too, as Jupiter rules religion, and the nature of Jupiter is such (especially when it is aligned with energizer Mars) that we can easily “go overboard” and get “carried away” with whatever we are involved with.
Even though Jupiter is an “expansive influence,” and more of a “benevolent planet,” sometimes the pitfall with it is we do not know when to “rein ourselves in.” For example, Jupiter is also associated with obesity and excess. We can’t stop with just “one jelly doughnut,” we have to consume a whole dozen! So, moderation is often needed and called for with Jupiter, if we are going to judiciously utilize the opportunity energies of this great planet to the best capacity.
