Familiarity may be less likely to breed contempt with a Full Moon occurring in Moon-ruled Cancer (7:33 pm), the go-to sign for nurturing, safety, and comfort. A nostalgic domain that tenderly leaves a night light on for us to enter the subjective chambers of our mystifying emotions and heady imagination. Carl Jung once wrote: “Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”

Full Moons are thought to naturally endow us with greater awareness as what has been gradually building inside us (since the New Moon) is now suddenly released or awarded its angel wings for immediate, deft processing. Needless to say, this can be a great period for journalling, or formally capturing those aha moments.

Structuring Saturn and expansive Jupiter are also both favorably aligned to this final lunation of 2023, suggesting that we have a rich supply of maturity, practicality, and positivity to tap into as we carefully sort through or try to make sense of whatever it is that is being generously revealed to us now by the powers that be. Jupiter’s upbeat ray can also especially help us to minimize our fears by directing us to focus more on our faith or convictions.

On this Saturn-ruled Saturday, the last one in July, we are privy to a radical costume change of sorts, about midday, with waxing Luna wrapping up her glam stay in flamboyant Leo the Lioness and bound for the ‘reap what you sow’ wheat fields of more modest, discerning Virgo the Virgin (2:10 pm).

Overall, the Moon’s pivot to detail-oriented Virgo, in association with the creative Leo Sun, especially favors organizing, assessing, or evaluating those projects or activities that we – particularly our egos – may personally identify with, which also may incorporate our special unique crop of talents or gifts.

Included in the mix here, we may also want to allocate some time or resources now to re-arranging or decluttering our immediate surroundings so as to introduce or establish a more palpable sense of energetic flow around us so we can, ideally, function more optimally. Too, fresh off the heels of the New Moon in Leo, we do want to be birthing something new now, hopefully seeing it get its cool angel wings at the time of the Full Moon in Aquarius on August 13th.

Luna will remain in efficient Virgo until early Tuesday morning.

Numerologically, today, 7-30-2022, is both a “3” and “7” day. The number three suggests a special knack or finesse for socializing or getting along with others, which can ultimately help to make us more influential or persuasive; this number is also associated with creative expression. There’s a First Quarter Moon in spontaneous, futuristic Sagittarius, this Monday, as Luna forms a square to the life-sustaining Sun in precise Virgo (4:39 pm). We are motivated to take action to forge ahead toward our wondrous destiny although we also may feel a bit bothered/constrained by the rules, our inner critic, or perhaps hemmed in by a quest for perfection.

Self-assertive Mars is also anaretic at 29 degrees of Virgo until it enters Libra, tomorrow evening (8:14 pm). Some astrologers refer to this degree as the “fate degree.” More commonly, it’s associated with last-minute pushes to finish things up, even though our energy for such matters may be waning.

Numerologically, the 13th of the month carries a more “no-nonsense” approach to affairs along with resilient determination.

Tonight’s New Moon (9:17 pm) occurs at 18 degrees of nurturing, protective Cancer, a sign represented by the hard-crusted crab. This is a natural time for new starts that focus on such things as enhancing our sense of safety, security, comfort, or self-care; firming up our familial, tribal, or ancestral ties; allowing ourselves to be rejuvenated/sensitized by the full range or gamut of our emotions, including a willingness to embrace our vulnerabilities or shadow side.

This lunation is also trined by transcendental Neptune retrograde in Pisces, possibly suggesting (at least for some of us, perhaps) a wish to link up to our Divine underpinnings in some palpable way. Neptune’s ray here also tends to enlist our compassion, creativity, and imagination.

Too, our nocturnal dreams may contain potent symbolism or special messages for our life now so we might want to place a personal journal under our pillow so as to capture any of these renderings. (And to maybe goad on us a bit, in this regard: It has been reported that Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones got the embryo of the band’s hit song ‘Satisfaction’ in a dream, which would go on to become the group’s first #1 single in the US on July 10, 1965. Also, Beatle Paul McCartney supposedly composed the melody for ‘Yesterday’ while catching some Z’s. )

Numerologically, today is a “3” and “9” day.  Typically boding well for communication, curiosity, and open-mindedness. Nine is also a symbol of completion and is thought to have a higher vibrational frequency, a reality which is associated with feeling a greater sense of personal power as well as experiencing greater clarity, peace, love, and joy.

On This Day in History: On July 9, 1893, the first successful open-heart surgery took place on Chicago’s South Side. The patient was a young man with a knife wound to the chest from a barroom brawl. The surgeon, who had gone into medicine because he disliked earlier work as a shoemaker’s apprentice, was Dr. Daniel Hale Williams. Williams, an African American, also founded Provident Hospital in 1891, the first Black-owned hospital in the U.S. which had an interracial staff. Provident Hospital is also where this pioneering surgery took place. (Chicago Tribune and History.com)

Astrologically, that day, Mars, which rules surgery, was deposited in Leo, the sign of the heart (where it also is today). Mars was also part of a trio of planets conjunct in that sign then (Mercury and Venus were the other two). Mars was also exactly sextile to Saturn in Libra, which is an excellent aspect for concentration and for harnessing/maximizing expertise or a skillset. Additionally, Mars was exactly square to innovative Uranus in the rebirthing sign of Scorpio, an aspect that naturally lends itself to experimentation and or devising/using new methods.

Mercury in Aries Sextile Saturn in Aquarius (11:09 am) – Following yesterday’s very spacey Mars square Neptune aspect, today is much better for attempting to pin the dashing tail on the ole’ proverbial donkey. Mercury-Saturn lends more precision and practicality to our thinking. Problem-solving could be less of a struggle.

Venus in Aries Sextiles Jupiter in Aquarius (2:53 pm) – Romance is in the air! Lady Luck may also be trying to track us down so we might want to consider leaving a long paper trail. This is a lovely influence for smoothing out any relationship bumps, for socializing, being playful. Promotes warm-heartedness and generosity.

Waning Luna also shifted into fiery Aries, early this morning (2:11 am), getting into position for tomorrow’s pioneering New Moon adventure in the sign of the Ram.

Numerologically, April 10, 2021, is very dynamic! A double “one” day. Good for taking charge, showing leadership, displaying confidence.

Astrologically, that day, newsmaker Mercury (in charge of corporate press releases) was deposited in infinity-seeking Pisces (the sign that also rules photography) and exactly sextile to enigmatic Pluto (aka Darth Vader) in Capricorn. Venus in Aries sextiles Mars in Gemini (7:17 am) – A very nice supportive aspect for expressing affection, fostering a harmonious sense of give-and-take. Too, we may find that our personal plans get a positive shot in the arm. Also, helps to boost creativity, sex appeal!

Waning Luna, now in her Last Quarter, is also nestled in non-conforming Aquarius. We are more willing to embrace the experimental. Punch holes in our comfort zones.

Moon sextile Sun in Aries (4:39 pm) – Helps to assuage inner conflicts. Our sense of purpose and heart are both in it together. Involvement in group activities or social causes can be very renewing.

Moon trine Mars in Gemini (9:55 pm) – A good fit for tackling physical projects. More energizing emotionally.

On April 6, 1896, the first modern Summer Olympic Games open in Athens, Greece. The games attracted just 245 competitors, of whom more than 200 were Greek, and only 14 countries were represented. Nevertheless, no international events of this magnitude had been organized before. Venus in Aries Sextiles Saturn in Aquarius (11:47 am) – We’re adopting more of a long-term outlook regarding our relationships, finances, and values. Favors making hefty deposits into our friendship accounts. Positive for solidifying valued connections. There’s also more of a willingness or ability to work patiently on projects that tap into our desires.

The Waning Moon, still in its Full Stage, also entered investigative Scorpio, early this morning (1:34 am). Ideally, this helps to facilitate a keener awareness of the workings of the world. We also tend to be more guarded or circumspect with our emotions now.

On March 27, 1980, a series of volcanic explosions and pyroclastic flows began at Mount St. Helens in Skamania County, Washington. It initiated as a series of phreatic blasts from the summit then escalated on May 18, 1980, as a major explosive eruption. The eruption, which had a Volcanic Explosivity Index of 5, was the most significant to occur in the contiguous 48 U.S. states since the much smaller 1915 eruption of Lassen Peak in California. It has often been declared the most disastrous volcanic eruption in U.S. history.

The eruption was preceded by a two-month series of earthquakes and steam-venting episodes, caused by an injection of magma at shallow depth below the volcano that created a large bulge and a fracture system on the mountain’s north slope. The Sun conjuncts Venus in Aries (2:58 am): Puts us more in line with our heart’s desires. Bestows a greater ability/finesse to attract what we want. We also move more quickly, ardently to pursue personal objectives or to act in our own self-interest.

Mars conjuncts the North Node in Gemini (11:34 am): This conjunction is a very nice, supportive tie-in to the Sun-Venus energy as it fosters an eagerness to forge ahead, to embrace the unknown. To meet our destiny!

The Waxing Moon is also spending its first full day in corrective Virgo. Admonishing us to refine our processes/methodologies.

With Waxing Luna still in playful Leo, this morning, and forming an opposition to expansive Jupiter, in eccentric Aquarius (9:27 am), it may be more challenging to dial things back. Also, easier to overpromise.

Mars in Gemini also sextiles Ceres in Aries (11:32 am), motivating us to take action to safeguard or protect what’s most important. (Home and family interests could be key here.)

The Moon will also enter fastidious Virgo, late tonight (11:25 pm). An excellent period for organizing our affairs, detoxing and refining our routines.

Numerologically, March 25, 2021, is a “6” and “7” day. Caretaking or nurturing is supported and highlighted. Intuition is also facilitated as we seek to ponder the deeper meaning of things.

On This Day in History: On March 25, 1969, newlyweds John Lennon and Yoko Ono stage their first “bed-in” for peace in Amsterdam, as the Vietnam War raged on that year.

Astrologically, that day, philosophical Jupiter and unconventional Uranus were conjunct in peace-loving Libra. Libra’s ruler, relationship Venus, was also exactly conjunct dutiful Saturn in war-ruling Aries.

As Yoko Ono later said to a reporter (in March of 2016), “We thought that Amsterdam was a very important place to do it because it has a very fresh and alive interest. And we’re thinking that, instead of going out and fight and make war or something like that, we should just stay in bed: Everybody should just stay in bed and enjoy the spring.”
