Astrology August 4, 2022: Mercury Enters Virgo

Cosmic Weather:

We may be more honed in on dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s, in the next few weeks, as Mercury, the planet of communication, intellect, memory, and travel enters precise, analytical Virgo today (2:58 am), one of two signs that it rules (the other is Gemini). This is one of the best placements for the Winged Messenger as it gives our mental faculties quickness and a critical edge.

Too, one thing I’ve discovered: when we do start paying closer attention to the myriad details of the things around us we often find that the world that we thought we so intimately knew is really, in many cases, vastly different than the one we have fabricated in our heads. It’s like the long paper trail never ends! 🙂

This also hints at the possible shadow side of Mercury in Virgo: that we become so consumed now by the little things that we fail to see the big (perplexing) picture. Still, though, Mercury in Virgo can be very useful in helping us to navigate and manage many of the practicalities of day-to-day living as it makes us focus on what’s right before us.

Mercury will remain in Virgo until August 25th but will re-enter Virgo late September due to a Mercury retrograde period. (More on that later.)

Waxing Luna also shifts into Scorpio today (7:47 am) motivating us to get to the bottom of things.

The empowering Sun in philosophical Sagittarius has us scheming about the bigger picture. But before we can manifest that grand vision for ourselves, we may need to break it down into smaller parts, or actionable steps. That’s where today’s Moon in analytical Virgo can practically assist us by helping us to systematically fill in many of the blanks on how to get there.

Sadly, Dave Brubeck passed away in Norwalk, CT yesterday, just one day shy of his 92nd birthday. He reportedly died on his way to a cardiology appointment.

Expansive Jupiter squares imaginative Neptune. While this bodes very well for our creative side, other aspects of our lives could get a little trickier to navigate the next few days. Our fantasies and idealism could get the best of us leaving us more vulnerable to those whose motives may be less than exemplary. On the shadow side, Neptune is linked with deception and “get rich quick” schemes. Thankfully the analytical Virgo Moon is also in force today and can help to introduce a healthy dose of skepticism into the picture for us, should we choose to employ it.

On another level, we may need to beware that Jupiter-Neptune also has some legacy with religious extremism and fanaticism.

Mental Mercury is also entering theatrical Leo (10:24 pm EDT) helping to make our communications much more colorful and dramatic in the coming weeks. Mercury will stay in Leo until September 1st.

Serious Saturn is also stationing direct in balancing Libra today. In the days and weeks ahead, this should help us to gain solid traction with respect to our goals and relationships, after capping off a period of review and rebuilding the last few months. “The important thing is to strive towards a goal which is not immediately visible.  That goal is not the concern of the mind, but of the spirit.”  ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Today with the Moon in analytical Virgo we are able to discern the fine details of matters. Mental Mercury quinqunx probing Pluto also has us wanting to go deeper with our thoughts and investigate what puzzles us. As long as we don’t get too attached to our thinking and can avoid labeling perceived discordant situations as problematic, we have a fairly good chance to learn quite a bit today about ourselves and enjoy the world around us.

The restless Gemini Sun’s sextile to liberating Uranus, in spontaneous Aries, may also change things up for us so that we can sample from a more varied buffet of life experiences. This is a great day to deviate from our confining routines and engage in spur-of-the-moment endeavors. The “warm” Leo Moon makes it easier for us to be magnanimous. Sweet Venus also sextiles idealistic Neptune. What we desire now in romance, and relationships, in general, may be more of a coming together on the “soul level,” with Neptune signifying “spiritualized love.” This is also a good day to give voice to the “thriving artist” within us, as Venus-Neptune is potentially highly creative energy. Neptune governs our imagination, and Venus rules our sense of beauty. The dramatic Leo Moon also provides us with solid footing to do things with extra flair.

“Opportunity” could very well be knocking for us today, too, in the form of the rare, triple conjunction of Mercury (communication and ideas), Venus (love and creativity) and Jupiter (optimism and expansion) in trailblazing Aries. This is a very magical aspect filled with untold possibilities for those who know how to “seize the moment.”

The Moon’s shift into analytical Virgo today, from showy Leo, (10:00 am EDT) also helps us to logically sift through the myriad possibilities before us and choose the most auspicious path for ourselves. Additionally, Mars, governing initiative, enters rock solid Taurus, supplying us with an extra measure of practical determination and common sense to reach our goals. Mars will be in grounded, plodding Taurus until June 21st, although today, with the fiery Aries triple conjunction, we may still be feeling a bit “unleashed.”

Amazingly, we have not had Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter exactly conjunct in Aries for well over a 100 years, although this trio was close together in Aries, in late April of 1928, when actress, singer, and dancer Shirley Temple, was born. This child prodigy shot to superstardom (Jupiter) at the tender age of 6, while also winning over the hearts (Venus) of many on the planet. Interesting, too, that Shirley would later become a Jupiter-ruled ambassador (with performer Venus ruling the entertainment portion of her career). I think Shirley Temple’s hopeful, charismatic, childhood persona is a rather fitting depiction of the type of upbeat, exuberant, playful type energy that we have around us today via the triple conjunction in unstoppable, pioneering Aries.

In the News: On the eve of the Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter triple conjunction in pioneering Aries, it was announced that Microsoft has agreed to purchase “Skype” for a colossal (Jupiter) 8.5 billion dollars, reportedly the largest acquisition in Microsoft’s history. When banker Jupiter is in the news, especially aligned with money-ruling Venus, we often hear about gigantic dealings. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft utilizes Skype in the future.

On a personal note, I have decided to take a hiatus from the daily astrology, to focus on some other pursuits. I will still be blogging here, but just not on a daily basis. As always, I appreciate your reading my blog and hope my astrological insights have been of value to you.

The Moon remains in logical, analytical Virgo, setting the tone for thinker Mercury’s opposition to judgmental Saturn (9:55 am EDT). This is definitely a day when we will want to be well-prepared and organized in our responses. Otherwise we tend to suffer the consequences, especially from higher-ups and authority figures (Saturn) who may be inclined to find fault (Saturn) with us for not doing our due diligence.  The Virgo Moon can be a stickler for detail and Mercury-Saturn can be very serious and exacting. In general, this aspect tends to impart more of a sobering outlook.

On the plus side with this influence, we have a great opportunity to deepen our perception and probe matters with expert clarity, particularly since we also have the Moon in discriminating Virgo. Overall, a great day for research and for making serious assessments.
