Astrology January 6, 2014: Seeing the “Little Picture” – Mercury Sextiles Saturn

“Much of life appears mundane at the time. Yet in God’s providence every moment includes significant details arranged by His divine hand.” Dillon Burroughs

COSMIC WATCH:

With the new year only six days old, some of us are perhaps still in the process of fleshing out or maybe modifying the finer details of our resolutions or personal vision for ourselves for 2014. Too, for those of us who may fall into this illustrious camp of late bloomers, we appear to have a special helping hand on our side today in the guise of mental Mercury sextile exacting Saturn. This planetary aspect can help us to focus on the nitty-gritty versus the broader scope of a matter. It is also very good for concentration and for seeking out advice from experts or from those whose opinions we value.  “A good leader will seek the wisdom of others. After all, no man is an island!” Jim George

Also, the Moon’s ingress into trailblazing Aries (2:45 pm EST) helps to channel our inner pioneer and inspires us to take bold action on matters.

What is perhaps the best piece of advice that you have ever received? Too, what advice do you wish you maybe had received earlier?

Astrology January 1, 2014: A New Moon in Capricorn

Tags

“If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” Henry David Thoreau

COSMIC WATCH:

With it being the first day of a brand new year, many of us are excited about writing a fresh, new chapter in our lives and also, perhaps, very hopeful or optimistic that we will be able to make tangible traction toward our dreams in 2014. Too, when some of us take a moment to look back in the rear view mirror at 2013, and gaze upon some our perceived “failures” or “fiascos” of the past year – the Neptunian dreams that maybe woefully went south – we may be tempted to scratch our heads and wonder to ourselves, “What in the world were we thinking by attempting such ludicrous or hare-brained things in the first place?” What do they say, that hindsight is always 20/20? 🙂

But, what if we cut ourselves a bit of slack here? And, instead of maybe regarding some of our so-called “missteps” or “blunders” as evidence of our towering and undeniable stupidity, or naivete – or whatever disparaging description that we opt to attach to our humble self – and chose instead to characterize these “well-intentioned, past creative renderings” of ours as simply “castles in the air” that just haven’t been given their foundational wings yet, as Thoreau suggested that we do? Maybe this type of morale boosting, “bigger picture point view” would duly inspire us to non-sheepishly resurrect (Pluto) some of our former, unfulfilled dreams in 2014. Dreams that are still likely very worthwhile for us to pursue, if only because, despite all of our best efforts to repudiate, silence or distance ourselves from them, they continue to keep tugging away at our heartstrings for completion. Victor Hugo once said that, “There is nothing like a dream to create a future.” Perhaps our dreams are also a vital part of our basic survival instinct, as they motivate us to keep going, and going, and going – kind of like the Energizer bunny.

Too, many of us are also likely ready now to break out of the gate – to chase after that Energizer bunny  – with eight planets (including the Sun and Moon) in the initiating, action-packed Cardinal signs, as well as a New Moon in persistent Capricorn occurring today. This is also the first time that we have reportedly had a New Moon on the first day of January in 19 years.

Capricorn is an earth sign that is associated with employing practical, strategic measures to obtain its goals. It is all about putting a solid foundational structure in place as a springboard for realizing our dreams or agendas. As a sign, Capricorn is focused on the outward contributions that we as individuals are each able to make in society.  Capricorn is symbolized by the adaptive mountain goat.  Too, New Moons are all about new beginnings and setting our intentions for the future. Also, with each New Moon, we are attempting to internally integrate the qualities of the sign in which the lunation is occurring.

This New Moon is very powerful because it is part of a galvanizing grand cardinal cross. It is also conjunct “makeover” Pluto, the planet of death and rebirth, so hopefully we will be able to triumphantly “rise from the ashes” again and, like the phoenix, courageously reclaim some of our forsaken or abandoned dreams.  Pluto’s activated ray is also positive for helping us to maintain a single-minded focus. Additionally, Pluto energy is very good for helping us sort out what’s worthy of saving or salvaging from the past, and what should be purged or pitched for good – an especially valuable ability to have in our toolkit at the start of another year. “You may be the only person left who believes in you, but it’s enough. It takes just one star to pierce a universe of darkness. Never give up.” Richelle E. Goodrich

Famous January 1 Birthdays: J. Edgar Hoover, Betsy Ross, Paul Revere, J.D. Salinger. “I’d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it’s crazy, but that’s the only thing I’d really like to be. I know it’s crazy.” J.D. Salinger.

Happy New Year!

Astrology December 30, 2013: Mars Squares Pluto

“We dream to give ourselves hope. To stop dreaming – well, that’s like saying you can never change your fate.” Amy Tan

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon continues its passage through “futuristic“ Sagittarius, a hopeful lunar placement that encourages us to “reach for the stars.” Eleanor Roosevelt (born with a Sagittarius Ascendant) once said that, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

Too, it may be a perfect time to rummage through the cherished treasure chest of our dreams, and perhaps re-asses our life, in general now – and what we aspire for in 2014. Not only are we at the end of another calendar year; astrologically, we also have enterprising Mars squaring transforming Pluto today (8:22 pm EST), an aspect often described as “game-shifting” by astrologers. This more intense influence,  even though it can sometimes be disruptive in nature, is often regarded to be very good for fostering self-renewal efforts, as it tends to re-align us with our heart’s burning passions and desires. Mars-Pluto is also often a factor with our employing herculean efforts to achieve our goals. (Today’s Mars-Pluto aspect also, of course, activates the longer term Uranus-Pluto square.)

Mars-Pluto can also help shed light on what is broken or no longer working in our lives; what possibly might be able to be salvaged or repaired; and what likely should be pitched or tossed aside.  Usually, too, before we can successfully start anew, we have to be willing to let go of the past; let go of attachment.

On the shadow side, Mars square Pluto is linked with obsessive or extreme behavior, fanaticism. power struggles, aggressive outbursts, greed, and manipulation.

Too, on a more positive note, writer Ericka Huggins insightfully reminds us that love can be an expression of power (Pluto). “We can use it to transform our world.”

How would you describe the “power of love?”

Astrology December 29, 2013: Mercury Squares Uranus, Sadge Moon

Tags

“The definition of brilliance is redoing failures different each time and expecting successful results.” Carl Henegan

COSMIC WATCH:

With intellectual Mercury squaring experimental Uranus today (3:48 pm EST), we’re perhaps learning to keep more of an open mind now on things, instead of doling out judgment. The late Frank Zappa, the originator of radical rock during the 60s, once likened the mind to a parachute and said that, “It doesn’t work, if it is not open.”

Since Uranus is also linked with genius, originality, and flashes of intuition, we may want to keep a notepad handy and jot down any insights or messages that suddenly bubble up into our awareness. Too, engaging in brainstorming may be an especially worthwhile pastime today. On the shadow side, Mercury-Uranus is sometimes linked with mental restlessness or an inability to concentrate, so if we’re feeling this way, we may want to postpone activities that call for a prolonged focus.

Because Mercury also governs news and communications, often when it is aligned with unpredictable Uranus, we hear some news that takes us a bit by surprise. Uranus also symbolizes those who hold more radical beliefs or take issue with the status quo, which can include persons who are militants, revolutionaries, and anarchists. Scientists, astronomers, aviators, inventors, and computer geeks also fall under the domain of this planet. Uranus also rules the internet and aircraft/spacecraft. BTW, the recent space station repairs were carried out when pioneering Mars was transiting opposite Uranus.

Early this afternoon (12:37 pm EST), the Moon’s entrance into forward-thinking Sagittarius also serves to further prime us for learning and new adventure.

Astrology December 28, 2013: Moon is in Investigative Scorpio

“The truth must be quite plain, if one could just clear away the litter.” Agatha Christie

COSMIC WATCH:

With today’s Moon in “investigative” Scorpio, digging below the surface is likely the best strategy by which to play the day and, hopefully, come out the insightful victor in the game of life in the process. As Aldous Huxley once wrote, “Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.”

The Moon’s trine to “philosophical” Jupiter (1:56 pm EST) also seems to be a big boon for us here as it can help us to put any lingering or bothersome minutia (facts) into a larger, understandable context that feels very freeing or expansive. Moon trine Jupiter is a classic aspect of “opportunity.”

Later, the Moon’s conjunction with “utilitarian” Saturn (7:58 pm EST) reveals to us the infinite, ageless wisdom of “conserving our resources.”

Astrology November 20, 2013: Mercury Sextiles Pluto

“You know my method. It is founded upon the observation of trifles.” Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

COSMIC WATCH:

With intellectual Mercury sextile to enigmatic Pluto (9:09 pm EST), there may be more of a fascination with what is hidden or obscured from view. This aspect usually inspires us to play detective; or to want to go deeper with our thinking – perhaps even to reveal more intimate aspects of our being to another. Mercury-Pluto aspects are linked with psychotherapy; also with spiritualism or contacting those who have crossed over.

BTW, Arthur Conan Doyle, who is referred to as “the creator of the modern detective story,” and the characters Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, had his natal Mercury conjunct, Pluto.

Positive Mercury-Pluto aspects can also aid us in verbal presentations by aligning us with our deeper emotions so that we are able to speak with more authenticity and conviction.

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you’ve imagined.” Henry David Thoreau

COSMIC WATCH:

Taking action on matters is often a great way to boost our self-confidence. Action mobilizes our life force and helps to supply us with a sense of purpose. Like a river in motion, being active helps to get us in the flow, so we can grow. Motivational speaker, Dale Carnegie, said that the pathway to conquering fear and doubt is to “go out and get busy.”

The heavens also appear to be encouraging “forward momentum” today, as we have Mars, the planet of action, making a harmonious sextile aspect to optimistic Jupiter (9:48 am EST), the planet of abundance and opportunity. This enthusiastic influence is traditionally linked with success in business, or sports. We’re usually more eager to put our vision and ideals (Jupiter) into motion (Mars) when these two planets meet up.

BTW, Mars-Jupiter aspects are often paired with affairs of royalty. For example, Kate Middleton and Prince William were married when Mars and Jupiter were exactly conjunct in the sign of Aries.

What action would you take today if you were guaranteed success? What do you think inspires self-confidence?

Astrology November 15, 2013: Venus Conjuncts Passionate Pluto

“He was now in that state of fire that she loved. She wanted to be burnt.” Anais Nin

COSMIC WATCH:

Romantic Venus conjoins intense Pluto today (4:33 pm EST), an aspect that is often associated with an “all-consuming passion.” For those of us who may already be involved in a committed, intimate relationship, this gripping influence can help transport it to even greater depths of feeling or expression.

“He felt now that he was not simply close to her, but that he did not know where he ended and she began.” – Leo Tolstoy

Too, even if we are single or alone, we can still feel the power of this captivating aspect by focusing our attention on what excites us today. Having passion for something is also a way for us to be fully present in the moment.

What might be the shadow side of Venus-Pluto? Being led by our obsessions. Being overly possessive or controlling. Feeling overcome with jealousy.

“Jealousy, that dragon which slays love under the pretense of keeping it alive.”  Havelock Ellis.

Some Famous People with Venus conjunct Pluto: Ian Scott Anderson, Charles Dickens, Amelia Earhart, Victor Hugo, Jeremy Irons, Liberace, Heather Locklear, Barry Manilow, Dr. Phil McGraw, Olivia Newton-John, Sean Penn, Julia Roberts, Sarah Ferguson.

Astrology November 14, 2013: Venus Square Uranus

Tags

“I told her I’d wait forever for her, but that was before I found somebody else who’d give me a ride home.” Jarod Kintz

COSMIC WATCH:

With relationship guru Venus squaring freedom-loving Uranus today (8:13 pm EST), this could be a time when our commitments to each other are tested. Suffice it to say, this is one of those classic planetary aspects that is linked with wanting to “bust loose” from the (perceived) chains that bind us.

The fact that the Moon is also in “impulsive” Aries, suggests that restraining ourselves from acting on any momentary whims or desires, may be a bit more of a lift for us at the moment.

The late author “Leo” Buscaglia, also known as “Dr. Love,” identified “freedom” as the foundational glue for loving relationships.

“A loving relationship is one in which the loved one is free to be himself — to laugh with me, but never at me; to cry with me, but never because of me; to love life, to love himself, to love being loved. Such a relationship is based upon freedom and can never grow in a jealous heart.”

What makes you feel free in a relationship? How easy is it for you to extend freedom to your mate or partner? How would you define a “loving relationship?”

We often find that those who have Venus-Uranus aspects, in their personal horoscopes, tend to be more open to experimentation/spontaneity in their social and romantic lives. They are also often more prone to defy convention or the status quo regarding matters of the heart.

Some Celebs with Venus Square Uranus: Angelina Jolie, Diana Princess of Wales, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Corbin Bernsen, Naomi Campbell, Chevy Chase, Alice Cooper, Juliette Lewis, Anais Nin, Jean Piaget, Elvis Presley, Valerie Harper, Kirk Douglas, Johnny Depp, Barbara De Angelis, Kim Hunter, Tony Curtis, Carson Daly

Astrology November 13, 2013: Neptune Stations Direct

Tags

, , , ,

“Every creator painfully experiences the chasm between his inner vision and its ultimate expression. The chasm is never completely bridged. We all have the conviction, perhaps illusory, that we have much more to say than appears on the paper.” Isaac Bashevis Singer

COSMIC WATCH:

Neptune, the planetary ruler of our dreams, imagination, inner wisdom, and spirituality, stations direct today, after a five-month retrograde period in selfless Pisces, the sign that it rules. It’s very possible that Neptune’s forward shift could be signaling to us now that we also need to follow suit and pick up that old, saturnian chisel again – or magic wand, whatever you prefer – and carry on with the process of sculpting out our life’s dream in the physical or outer world; transmute our higher vision for ourselves into a living, breathing, pulsating reality that we never lose sight of.

“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” Michelangelo

What do you see in the marble, that is before you now? Anything worth carving out? Or do you possibly need to revisit the drawing board for further inspiration?

It’s often said that our lives are “works of art in progress.” There always seems to be something that we’re either revising or building towards. Also, it’s rare when things proceed in a clear-cut, linear fashion, isn’t it? Just like with the planets, we often seem to have our own retrograde periods. Sometimes, too, instead of just revisiting the past, we may need to overhaul or revise it. Something that I actually attempted to do, last night, quite successfully, on the eve of “fantasy” Neptune’s stationing direct.

In a nutshell, what I did was visualized and reviewed different aspects/events of my past and, in some areas where I was not entirely pleased with how things had panned out, I went ahead and, in my mind’s eye, rewrote the circumstances as I wish they had been instead, from today’s perspective. I especially enjoyed re-scripting many of my immediate family and childhood memories, generously injecting peace and harmony among all of us, in place of any tension or conflict. Even one family member, who had a serious issue with alcohol, no longer had this problem, in my revised past, and he was so much happier. We all were.

Anyway, directly experiencing/perceiving my past as something that was fluid or malleable, instead of something that could not be changed or re-written, felt very freeing and energy-boosting for me. It was also a fun thing to do, as it engaged my imaginative (Neptunian) powers. I believe that it also put me more in touch with what I really need to craft around myself now, as part of my daily reality, in order to feel more fulfilled and on target with my life purpose.

You may want to try this yourself, for a few minutes, maybe before you go to bed. Especially with illusory Neptune, the planet of creative license, stationing direct. This planet’s “envisioning vibration” is more pronounced now and “flights of fancy” are easier to catch. 🙂
