Cosmic Weather:

“If you put yourself in a position where you have to stretch outside your comfort zone, then you are forced to expand your consciousness.” – Les Brown

Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system – and more than twice as big as all the other planets combined – makes its grand re-entry into fiery Aries the Ram this morning (9:32 am), where it will remain until May 16, 2023. Earlier this year, on May 10th, Jupiter first entered Aries, then stationed retrograde on July 28th, and ingressed back into Pisces on October 28th. Projects that we began back in May, that were then put on the back burner during the retrograde phase, are now ready to be resumed, possibly with greater definition or form to them as a result of the reflective Rx period. Too, if maybe we were a little late to the game in May and missed the first Jupiter in Aries rollout, we have a second chance now to maybe hit one out of the park.

Just like its physical size, Jupiter tends to operate in more of a gargantuan – or as a former US president might say – a bigly fashion. It can push us to our limits – and beyond – especially when it is given free rein in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, associated with pioneering, self-assertion, and personal new beginnings. Jupiter in Aries is thought to be an excellent time to focus on matters that add to our self-discovery, elevate courage or bravery, and contribute to our sense that we are making a positive difference in the world. We will also want to make sure that we remain very focused on our vision and what we are trying to accomplish during this time. Some shadow-side manifestations of Jupiter in Aries include trying to do too much, going to excess, being too self-righteous or arrogant, and becoming too aggressive.

On This Day in History: On December 20, 1860, South Carolina became the first state to secede from the Union as all 169 delegates to a special convention in Charleston voted in favor of separation. South Carolina wanted to withdraw from the US because Abraham Lincoln, a member of the new Republican party, had just been elected president, and wanted to stop slavery from spreading into western territories. South Carolina lawmakers, meanwhile, were concerned that any interference with slavery would end their way of life. They also believed they had a constitutional right to take property – including slaves – anywhere. (manythings.org)

Astrologically, that day, among the notable aspects, was an exact square between Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Gemini, which were both at 9 degrees of their respective signs. The square between these two bodies is often associated with experiencing a great deal of tension or pressure as the desire to maintain the status quo (Saturn) is seemingly seriously threatened by radical change (Uranus), which can then lead to taking unprecedented actions. Decision-maker Mercury, in ideologically-oriented Sagittarius, was also at 8 degrees then and applying to an exact square to Saturn and opposition to Uranus (creating a mutable T-square in the sky); Mercury square Saturn can find us making decisions based on fear, while Mercury opposing Uranus can propel us to act more boldly or precipitously.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“The distance between us grows with each passing minute. Will he take my arm again, or will I have to take his?” – Stephanie Perkins, Lola and the Boy Next Door

Venus in Capricorn Squares Chiron Rx in Aries (11:22 am): This aspect may find us reliving old relationship wounds, including possibly rehashing the sting of rejection by lovers or maybe fallouts with workmates, which could result in, among other things, more of a hesitancy to want to commit. Too, another possibility is that we may be feeling unworthy or pressured because we perceive that we have not really lived up to our own expectations for ourselves. Of course, we can also choose to put a more positive spin on things here by focusing, perhaps, on what we are grateful for, including lessons learned.

Venus in Capricorn Quincunx Mars Rx in Gemini (12:36 pm): This aspect suggests some possible awkwardness going after what we want. It could be, too, that our timing may be off or that we are trying too hard.

Mars Rx in Gemini Sextile Chiron Rx in Aries (5:37 pm): This helps us to acknowledge our missteps or insecurities and activates us to want to do something about them so that we can move on. Talking about things may also be healing now.

On This Day in History: On December 19, 1843, the revered classic “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens is published.

Among the astrological aspects, of that day: expansive Jupiter – commonly regarded as the goodwill ambassador – and also the planet which governs literature and publishing, was conjunct Neptune, the planet of imagination, in altruistic, collective-minded Aquarius, an aspect that can also appreciably magnify our idealism. Both were also sextile to the empowering Sun in the Jupiter-ruled sign of Sagittarius; Sadge rules our beliefs and convictions, as well as our sense of ethics or morality. The Sun-Jupiter sextile is also particularly favorable for publishing; it can also help a matter to have a broader impact.

“Reflect upon your present blessings—of which every man has many—not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” – Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Mercury in Capricorn trines Uranus in Taurus (4:37 pm): This suggests more of a willingness to embrace or entertain new ideas, or to look at things from different perspectives – especially if we sense that by doing so we will likely be gaining some kind of practical or material advantage that may make our lives function more smoothly.

Additionally, this aspect can also help to speed up our mental processes and facilitate intuition.

On This Day in History: On December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers make the 1st (sustained motorized) aircraft flight in Kitty Hawk, NC, piloted by Orville Wright.

Astrologically, that day, the empowering Sun was applying to an exact conjunction with innovative Uranus (the planet governing aviation) in the futuristic travel sign of Sagittarius. Sun-Uranus days can often be big game-changers for us, setting us on a whole new course; our tolerance for risk is usually much higher than as well as our need for experimentation. Mars and Saturn were also conjunct in Uranus-ruled Aquarius, an aspect that is thought to be quite helpful with aiding concentration and perfecting techniques.

Cosmic Weather:

“You’ll see it when you believe it.” – Wayne W. Dyer

Our sense of confidence, optimism, and personal power could all be on the rise now as the authoritative Sun in renewing Scorpio trines expansive Jupiter Rx in imaginative, caring Pisces (11:07 pm). This influence is commonly thought to be a very propitious time to take important steps toward our goals or vision.

Jupiter serves as the official philosopher of the zodiac and also epitomizes or symbolizes positive thinking or a can-do spirit as well as fostering a deeper understanding, which can also occasionally lead to such things as the emergence of some cool aha moments or possibly experiencing amazing synchronicities (meaningful coincidences), which may help to steer us further along on our Soul’s special path.

At the least, it is a good day to do something fun – maybe travel or sightseeing? – or engage in an activity that fills our hearts with joy or positivity.  It is also an excellent time to reach out to others – especially, perhaps, those persons who may be down on their luck for whatever reason – to show them some bighearted compassion and generosity; Sun trine Jupiter, archetypally, can also denote “channeling our inner Santa.”

“Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.” – R.J. Palacio

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On November 20, 1947, Princess Elizabeth marries Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten (who becomes the Duke of Edinburgh) at Westminster Abbey in London. Elizabeth and Philip were married for 73 years until Philip’s death in April 2021 at 99 years old. Their lifelong love story actually began when they were teenagers.

Astrologically, when Elizabeth and Philip tied the knot, romantic Venus was in playful Sagittarius and harmoniously trine to Mars (passion), Saturn (longevity), and Pluto (transformational), with the latter three planets all conjunct in the regal sign of Leo. Too, Venus was sextile to fantasy Neptune – in the matrimonial sign of Libra – no doubt, injecting an element of a storybook romance into the cosmic equation.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

confusion, daily astrology, Dirty Dancing debuts, mercury opposes neptune, On This Day in History, spiritual, Sun Myung Moon

Cosmic Weather:

Some thick fog is on the horizon today, so we may wish to proceed with caution…

Intellectual Mercury in Virgo opposes fantasy planet Neptune Rx in Pisces (3:40 am):

This short-term annual occurrence tends to veil our senses, rebuffs logic, and may fuel untenable or highly speculative claims e.g. conspiracy theories. Needless to say, the communications sphere may be a bit twisted/confusing now as what we say, mean, or do might be misunderstood. Or what others say/reveal to us may not be the whole truth or enchilada even though they swear on a stack of bibles that it is!

Too, it’s possible someone may think they’re telling us the truth now but – unbeknownst to them – their perspective may be a bit warped or off target at the moment. Also on the shadow side, Mercury-Neptune may rachet up our emotional sensitivities perhaps leaving us more vulnerable to the harmful impact of harsher words or gestures. Likewise, we may want to avoid or sidestep certain persons now who tend to push our buttons.

On the positive side, this planetary configuration can be a real boon for our creativity as Neptune governs our imagination and it may be much easier for us now to conjure up or envision various scenarios or possibilities. We also may take more pleasure now in partaking in cultural or artistic outings.

On a practical level, perhaps one of the best ways to manage this sometimes trickier aspect, communication-wise, is to simply ask for more clarification, when in doubt, instead of assuming anything. We may also want to make sure that others understand the points that we are trying to convey. Fortunately, Luna is in articulate Gemini today until later this evening, so we may have more of a built-in readiness/capacity for dealing with all this back-and-forth type stuff. That said, it may also be best to hold off on any contractual signings/agreements/commitments for the time being as it still may be too easy to miss things.

On another level, we may find ourselves interested in pursuing more transcendental or spiritual matters today with Neptune signifying the non-material realm. Too, with Mercury governing the news, it’s possible that we may hear about more non-secular topics making headlines.

For instance, when Mercury in Virgo opposed Neptune in Pisces on September 2, 2012 (which was right after Neptune first entered its current transit of Pisces) there was the news of the death of self-proclaimed messiah Sun Myung Moon, at the age of 92, the founder of the Unification Church, a movement that is well-known for its “Blessing” or mass weddings ceremonies. The followers of Sun Myung Moon are commonly referred to as “Moonies.” (Wikipedia)

Some other things Neptune rules or is associated with: liquids, gases and chemicals, oil and gasoline, drugs and medication, addiction, and all visual forms of communication.

On This Day in History: On August 21, 1987, the film “Dirty Dancing” directed by Emile Ardolino, and starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, opens in the US. The movie became an instant sensation and went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of 1987, also making Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey into bona fide stars. The film contains some of the greatest romantic one-liners of all time along with some amazing dance sequences.

The cosmic lineup was also pretty stellar on the day of the film’s release, with a stellium of planets in entertainment Leo – including the sexy duo Mars and Venus, exactly conjunct in playful Leo and exactly trine to expansive Jupiter in trail-blazing Aries.

daily astrology, love life, On This Day in History, President Richard Nixon, Venus opposes Pluto

Cosmic Weather:

On this second Tuesday of August, we may want to consider holding an impromptu seance to see if Sigmund Freud is possibly available for a quick consult regarding the latest perplexities of our ever-entangled love life..:)

Venus in Cancer opposes Pluto Rx in Capricorn (1:18 am) – While this more intense aspect may arouse our passions, it can also ignite power and control issues within relationships as well as conjure up our jealousies and suspicions. By nature, Venus in Cancer tends to feel or take things very personally; it can also be very clingy or smothering. Paired with forceful, obsessive Pluto, there’s a possibility now that all this neediness goes into overdrive! This tendency to hold on too tightly can also expand beyond people to include things or situations.

“If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, it is yours forever. If it doesn’t, then it was never meant to be.” – Unknown author

On the positive or redemptive side, this transit may tip us off to some hidden or submerged shadow stuff inside ourselves that we are able to, upon reflection, deftly transmute into shiny nuggets of gold.

On This Day in History: On August 9, 1974, Richard Nixon resigns as President of the United States – in wake of the Watergate scandal – and Vice President Gerald Ford swears the oath of office to take his place as the 38th US President.

Among the astrological aspects that day: activator Mars in censoring, corrective Virgo was separating one degree from an exact square to dissolving Neptune – the planet that also rules scandals and deception. (Squares bring about action.) The authoritative Leo Sun (which symbolizes leaders or rulers) was also exactly quincunx to Jupiter in surrendering Pisces, suggesting an adjustment in power. Jupiter can also underscore ethical or moral matters, lapses in judgment, and overstepping boundaries.

daily astrology, financial, Jeff Bezos, Mars enters Taurus, Mercury enters Cancer, On This Day in History

Cosmic Weather:

“The loftier the building, the deeper must the foundation be laid.” – Thomas a’ Kempis

Overnight, a big cosmic shift occurred: energy planet Mars exited originating Aries, and descended into slow, deliberate Taurus (2:04 am), the zodiacal sign of money, values, and possessions. However, by no means, does this portend that the feisty red planet has essentially been “put out to pasture” just because it’s now plodding around, seemingly lackadaisically, in this bovine-friendly sign. Rather, Mars has officially entered its building and consolidation phase in Taurus; meaning, that whatever was so exuberantly thrown up against the wall, while Mars was rocketing through its home sign of Aries, during the last six weeks, will now likely be rigorously tested and debated to see whether or not it will admirably stick or ignobly fall by the wayside like so much else in our lives. 🙂

(Too, on Bloomberg Surveillance this morning and news elsewhere, more and more talk about a recession coming with commodity prices falling, including oil cratering today.)

Mars remains in Taurus until August 20th. Also, a key time for Mars here will likely be when it conjuncts change-agent Uranus at the end of July and early August. More on this later.

Also, overnight, communicator Mercury reportedly followed Mars’ lead and fled chatterbox Gemini in a knee-jerk bid to return to the sanctity and the security of the womb in Cancer. (No telling how the US Supreme Court will weigh in on that one!) While Mercury in Gemini is basically an open book, its position in receptive Cancer is much more tenuous and cautious. It also tends to speak from the heart in this Moon-ruled sign. Too, Mars and Mercury are sextile to each other today (2:37 am), ideally making it easier to put into words some of the things that we’ve maybe been feeling of late.

“The more you do speak from the heart, rather than thumping the agenda, people will listen or relate or open themselves up more.” – Drew Barrymore

On this day in history: On July 5, 1994, Amazon.com was founded in Bellevue, Washington by Jeff Bezos, a Capricorn Sun native (b. January 12, 1964).

Astrologically, among the aspects, that day, the authoritative Sun in Cancer was separating from a trine to structuring Saturn in Pisces, an excellent influence for creating something (i.e. a business) with good longevity prospects. Innovator Uranus, which rules technology and the internet, was also conjunct imaginative Neptune in Capricorn and sextile to transformative Pluto in Scorpio, the latter planet also governing matters that affect the masses. Enterprising Mars also had just entered versatile Gemini, the sign connected with commerce.

“I think frugality drives innovation, just like other constraints do. One of the only ways to get out of a tight box is to invent your way out.” – Jeff Bezos

daily astrology, Gettysburg War, making corrections, Mercury quincunx Pluto, Moon in Virgo, On This Day in History

Cosmic Weather:

Putting in my cheery, quarterly appearance. 🙂

On this very first Sunday, in sweltering July, in the northern hemisphere, waxing Luna’s diligent ingress into corrective Virgo territory (8:31 am) suggests a golden opportunity for us to adeptly tinker under the hood to see what might be amiss.

Too, with Luna’s planetary ruler Mercury, in data-gathering Gemini, and quincunx to probing, obsessive Pluto in Capricorn, a possible manifestation here might be that our observations about what’s malfunctioning may duly require us to detail it all in at least a 30-page spreadsheet report replete with picture-perfect margins!

The more health-minded Virgo Moon is also supportive of detox or cleansing efforts.

“Life is an error-making and an error-correcting process.” – Jonas Salk

Also, keeping a close eye now on action-planet Mars nearing the end – or 29th degree – of adventurous, assertive Aries, often a time associated with sudden, last-minute efforts to accelerate or push things forward before we transition into other areas. Mars will enter bullish Taurus on Tuesday, July 5th, a period when we seek to anchor and consolidate matters, including our finances.

“Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.” Epictetus.

(By the way, Albert Brooks also offers up in his wonderful new book From Strength to Strength that a person’s level of satisfaction is generally derived from dividing up what they have by what they want. Such a nice, simple formula, isn’t it? I think practicing gratitude for what we have can also help to foster a greater sense of inner well-being.)

*All times EDT

On This Day in History: On July 3, 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg, the largest battle ever fought on the American continent, ends in a major victory for the Union during the US Civil War.

Astrologically, that day, warrior Mars, in confident, authoritative Leo, was applying, one degree, to an exact square to transformative Pluto, an intense aspect often associated with a strong desire to assert one’s dominance, no matter the cost. The protective, more patriotic-minded Cancer Sun was also sextile Pluto and trining wounded healer Chiron in Pisces.

Gettysburg is considered the “high watermark of the rebellion.”  After Gettysburg, the Confederate army would never again regain its momentum.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“Libraries were full of ideas—perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.” – Sarah J. Maas

We begin our Monday with mental Mercury conjunct expander Jupiter in Pisces (2:06 am). This aspect is supportive for most communications in general as it tends to broaden our outlook and deepen our understanding as well as raise our level of tolerance. Particularly favored now are teachings, writings, or publishings of a more comprehensive or voluminous nature. On another level, mystical or spiritual-type awakenings are also possible.

Additionally, Mars in Aquarius is sextile to Chiron in Aries today (at 4:59 pm) which can aid us in dealing with lingering or thorny issues in a more forthcoming, direct manner.

Also, not to be forgotten or ignored: Waning Luna is standing her guard in secretive, perceptive Scorpio all day!

The pioneering Sun in Aries was also conjunct the futuristic North Node and trine to structuring Saturn in self-expressive Leo.

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey’s first-ever tweet recently sold for the equivalent of $2.9m (£2.1m) to a Malaysia-based businessman. The tweet, which said “just setting up my twttr,” was first published on March 21, 2006, and was auctioned off by Mr. Dorsey for charity.

daily astrology, new beginnings, On This Day in History, sun enters aries, the spring equinox 2022, work life balance

Cosmic Weather:

“And now we welcome the new year, full of things that have never been” – Rainer Maria Rilke

Today we celebrate the Spring Equinox – a time when day and night are about equal length as the Sun passes directly above the equator. This also officially kicks off the start of the astrological new year and the Sun’s ingress into pioneering Aries (at 11:33 am).

The life-giving Sun, which represents our identity and the basic urge to be, is said to be exalted in the “I Am” sign of Aries the Ram – meaning it is deemed to be the prime locale for the Sun to exuberantly shine and do its thing. The sudden re-emergence of the burgeoning life force in nature during the springtime, when everything is abloom, is thought to mirror the vast creative ability of Aries to manifest its desires in the outside world.

Mars-ruled Aries, the first of the fire signs, signifies energy that is initiating, spontaneous, brave, and courageous. Likewise, Aries season is the time when we are strongly encouraged to get the ball rolling with new projects, fresh starts, prolifically planting seeds of intention.

“Never underestimate the power you have to take your life in a new direction.” – Germany Kent

On another level, the Spring Equinox itself – with its equal amount of light and dark – is perceived to be a good time to reset the balance of things in our own lives so as to make them more enjoyable and fulfilling.

“Life is a tightrope walk. One has to balance the do’s and don’ts.” – Haresh Sippy

A few days after John and Yoko tied the knot – and while they were still on their honeymoon – the pair invited members of the press to join them in their honeymoon suite at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel to protest the Vietnam War (in bed) and preach world peace.
