Cosmic Weather:

“Don’t worry when you are not recognized but strive to be worthy of recognition.” – Abraham Lincoln

On this very first Monday in 2026, the proud “Leo the Lion” Moon is in it Waning Gibbous Phase and quincunx to Venus, the Sun, and Mars – all deposited in worldly ambitious Capricorn; quincunx aspects often signal the need to make adjustments.

A possible theme for today: How do we placate, pay homage, or brilliantly integrate our presumed oversized emotional need for recognition/praise/power now (Leo Moon) while also carrying out the daily grind of our noble life purpose (Sun in Capricorn)? 🙂

Luna in Leo also craves creative self-expression.

In Business News: Perhaps a knee-jerk response to Nicolas Maduro’s capture over the weekend, but Chevron and other energy stocks are up premarket on the notion that the companies would benefit from building Venezuela’s oil infrastructure. Gold and bitcoin prices also gained. (CNBC.com)

Neptune, which symbolizes oil in astrology, is currently at the tail end of Pisces and is poised to re-enter the “new beginnings” sign of Aries on January 26, where it will stay until May 21, 2038.

Meanwhile, Maduro is also slated to appear midday in a NYC courtroom on drug trafficking charges just as the Leo Moon quincunxes assertive Mars in rules-making/law-enforcing Capricorn.

Born On This Day: King C. Gillette (1855-1932), inventor of inexpensive and disposable safety razor blades.

Cosmic Weather:

“All the knowledge I possess everyone else can acquire, but my heart is all my own.” – Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Occurring today is the first Full Moon of 2026, at 13 degrees of nurturing Cancer (5:03 am), which puts a potential spotlight on honoring/integrating our need for emotional security and safety around us while simultaneously pursuing our external drives or worldly ambitions (Capricorn).

Today’s Cancer Moon opposes the Sun, Venus, and Mars all deposited in persevering, strategic Capricorn.

As Full Moons coincide with culminations/turning points, this lunation may shed a light on what it is that we truly value and want in our lives (Venus) and what actions (Mars) we are willing to take to acquire it.

“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something we love is called passion.” – Simon Sinek

We may also want to wait a few days before acting upon any of the fresh awarenesses that may arise during this Full Moon in order to give them time to settle.

*All times EST

Breaking News:

The U.S. captured and extracted Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in a military and law-enforcement operation early Saturday (today), according to President Trump. Maduro’s capture comes after months of U.S. pressure on his regime, including the seizure of oil tankers off Venezuela’s coast, aerial attacks on alleged drug-smuggling boats and a CIA strike inside the country. Venezuela called the attack an act of U.S. military aggression against its capital as well as in the states of Miranda, La Guaira and Aragua. (Wall Street Journal)

Astrologically, in addition to the Full Moon today, the authoritative Sun (denoting power or leadership) and warrior Mars (which governs the military) are nearing an exact conjunction (perfecting on January 9). Conjunctions signify new beginnings.

Sun-Mars aspects are commonly regarded as highly charged in nature and are often synonymous with, among other things, direct confrontations, feeling an increased sense of confidence, taking fearless/courageous actions, a propensity for acting swiftly without delay.

The sign of Capricorn is also associated with positions of power or top leadership, and it rules government.

Of course, the big question on many of our minds now: what comes next?

Today’s Birthdays: American Quaker, abolitionist, and women’s right activist, Lucretia Mott (1793 – 1880); British author J.R.R. Tolkien (1892 – 1973) whose works include The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. He once wrote:

“All that is gold does not glitter; not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither; deep roots are not reached by the frost.”

Cosmic Weather:

“And now we welcome the new year, full of things that have never been” – Rainer Maria Rilke

On this very first day of 2026, we are treated to mental Mercury, in scholarly Sagittarius, exactly square to transcendent Neptune in Pisces (8:33 am) – suggesting an honorable, noble search for deeper meaning now could potentially get hijacked by a few tempting, time-consuming rabbit holes savagely dotting our, otherwise, inspired path. 🙂

Probably also not very helpful that we have the Waxing Moon deposited in ever curious, scattering Gemini, which Mercury rules!

Astrologically, Mercury-Neptune pairings are often described, on the shadow side, as foggier periods cerebrally, when we may be muddling through intimidating gaps of information/misinformation. Even outright deception or lies!

On a cheerier, more redemptive note, however, Mercury-Neptune aspects are also equated with perceived surges in imagination, creativity, sensitivity and compassion. Our nocturnal dreams may also be especially vivid now.

Later in the day, the winged messenger Mercury exits outgoing Sagittarius to take up a three-week occupancy in the more worldly-ambitious, practical, subdued sign of Capricorn (4:11 pm), joining the Sun, Venus, and Mars already stationed there.

This placement of Mercury, in persevering Capricorn, ideally helps us to make our dreams and goals a reality by fostering a more step-by-step approach in relation to our thoughts and ideas. It is also associated with a more guarded/circumspect communication style. Some cynicism/crustiness may also be thrown into the mix, for good measure!

“Every ounce of my cynicism is supported by historical precedent.” – Glen Cook, Shadow Games

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On January 1,1818, Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” or, “The Modern Prometheus,” is published anonymously by the small London publishing house of Lackington, Hughes, Harding, Mavor, & Jones.

One of the best-known works of English literature, Shelley was only eighteen years old when she began writing the Gothic novel, completing it at age 20.

Astrologically on the publication date, there was a stellium of planets (Uranus, Venus, Neptune, and Jupiter) conjunct in master story-teller Sagittarius, the sign which also rules publishing. Transformational Pluto in Pisces was additionally squaring this lineup; Pluto is associated with, among other things, darker themes and issues of power or control.

Cosmic Weather:

“Exploring consciousness means expanding our vision, but it also means honoring the ground beneath our feet. The vast and the ordinary are not opposites. They are partners.” – Donna Goddard

On this last Monday of 2025, Waxing Luna shifts from trailblazing Aries to anchoring Taurus (6:57 am) as our focus becomes more practical/security-minded, with the sign of the bull governing, among other things, money and possessions. The Moon will remain in Taurus until New Year’s Eve morning.

The Taurus energy is also a nice match for the present heavenly lineup in tradition-minded Capricorn, which includes the Sun, Venus, Mars, and Vesta; Juno – representing our attitude towards relationships – also enters the dutiful sign of the goat, this morning (9:34 am).

Additionally, motivating Mars is in easy aspect to the Lunar Nodes today suggesting an opportunity to more effortlessly align with our desires and purpose.

The fiery red planet is also viewed to be exalted in Capricorn, in part, because its perceived assertiveness is thought to combine well with Capricorn’s reputation for discipline.

Meanwhile, Luna also forms a square to purging Pluto in Aquarius (11:24 am), perhaps underscoring the notion that sometimes, in order for us to have more, we have to let go!

Too, this aspect should serve as a boon for those of us who are now fully encapsulated in assorted year-end decluttering projects. 🙂

Psychology Today recently ran an article that stated decluttering and organizing our space can actually help to lower the levels of the stress hormone cortisol in our bodies by promoting a sense of calm and well-being.

*All times EST

In the news: The precious metal silver topped $80 for the first time ever, in overnight trading, before reversing course and falling more than 3% today. Silver is up more than 155% year to date, after starting 2025 just above $20 per ounce (CNBC). Some regard silver as a good hedge against inflation, although its price performance, over the years, has been inconsistent here. About half of all silver is used in industrial production.

In astrology, silver is ruled by Cancer and, of course, expansive, abundant Jupiter has been hanging out in that sign since early June of this year. Of course, while Jupiter’s placement in Cancer doesn’t necessarily translate to causation, it’s kind of fun to watch to see how it all plays out.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“What is imperative is to keep the momentum going. The difference between success and failure is very thin. The urge to win must be like a hunger inside you.” – Avijeet Das

With emotional Luna in her Waxing Gibbous phase and darting through athletic, fiery Aries, we may be feeling a rush of momentum now to get things done as we head towards the Cancer Full Moon on January 3rd.

This is an excellent time to take initiative, act independently, be courageous, while also taking steps/actions to safeguard our own interests or security (Luna square Jupiter, 4:59 pm).

The Moon’s monthly conjunction with Chiron (6:26 pm) also allows us the opportunity to embrace our vulnerabilities or advocate for those whose voices we don’t often hear.

Additionally, Luna’s trine to communicator Mercury in Sagittarius (9:13 pm) ignites idealistic ideas and the chance for open dialogue.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On December 28, 1981, Elizabeth Jordan Carr was born in Norfolk, Virginia, becoming the first American test-tube baby. Her birth marked a significant advancement in reproductive technology, offering hope to countless couples struggling with infertility. The successful use of in vitro fertilization (IVF) paved the way for future developments in assisted reproductive techniques. (Wikipedia)

Interestingly enough, expansive Jupiter, associated with broadening our horizons and understanding, was in Scorpio at 5 degrees, at the time of Carr’s birth – the astrological sign that governs reproduction. Jupiter was also applying to an exact waning sextile to the life-giving Sun at 6 degrees of Capricorn. Sun-Jupiter aspects are often perceived to be lucky or advantageous in nature and bode well for learning, growth, and experimentation.

Cosmic Weather:

“Your soul knows the geography of your destiny.” – John O’Donohue

April kicks off with relationship Venus Rx conjunct the futuristic North Node in Pisces, ideally aiding us in the forging or re-forging of ties/situations/outlets that may more seamlessly point us in the direction of our soul’s growth. There may also be greater ability to smooth over frictions, show empathy, express our creativity.

Meanwhile, Luna is now in her Waxing Crescent Phase in grounding Taurus (until 4:26 pm), emitting 15% illumination; the right edge of the Moon is all that’s visible to the naked eye.

Too, Luna is quite busy today forming several aspects. It’s wrap up passage through the sign of the bull favors, among other things, consolidating our efforts, including firming up elements of our financial/material world, as best we can. Remember: “Liberation Day” is tomorrow, April 2nd! 🙂

Additionally, Luna’s monthly conjunction with game changing Uranus (7:56 am), may suddenly jolt us into wanting to add something new or exciting to our daily routines or at least may entice us to see things from a fresh perspective.

The Moon’s late day ingress into curious Gemini (4:26 pm), may power up our intuition with its nice sextile aspect to Neptune (4:34 pm), while its flowing trine to mysterious Pluto may find us eager to channel our inner detective.

“There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact.” – Arthur Conan Doyle, The Boscombe Valley Mystery – A Sherlock Holmes Short Story.

On This Day in History: On April 1, 1826, American inventor Samuel Morey is issued the first U.S. patent for an internal-combustion engine, which he calls a “Gas or Vapor Engine.”

Astrologically, that day, there was a stellium in trailblazing Aries (Pluto, Sun, Venus, and Chiron) while energizing Mars, Aries ruler, was retrograde in transformative Scorpio and sextile (2 degrees) to innovative Uranus in achievement-oriented Capricorn. Mars-Uranus influences often figure prominently with respect to spawning inventions or breakthroughs.

Samuel Morey was also a pioneer in steamships who racked up a total of 20 patents.

Cosmic Weather:

“The avoidance of taxes is the only intellectual pursuit that still carries any reward.” – John Maynard

Not sure if even billionaire Oprah Winfrey will ever be able to give away any more free cars to her fans, in wake of President Trump’s oval office announcement, late yesterday, that all automobiles (and auto parts) not made in the U.S. will soon be charged 25% tariffs.

Fortunately, though, there’s also some good news on the horizon now: The generous, benevolent Universe has seemingly decided to act promptly and swiftly to soften the blow for the masses here, by kindly awarding free halos today, duty-free, to all interested parties – while supplies last. 🙂

Of course, once we have the halos in hand, hopefully the accompanying angel wings will soon follow, so troubling our pretty heads about any future transportation needs will likely be but a vestige of the past – unless we maybe fall from grace or something. Which could very well happen!

(Think all this daily, incessant tariff talk is driving a lot of us batty!)

Astrologically speaking, today does feel a bit like an ephemeral, out-of-body experience. The Waning Crescent Moon – which is now 27.48 days old since the last New Moon – is sequestered in dissolving, transcending Pisces, emitting only 5% illumination as seen from earth (an excellent time to see the features of the Moon’s surface with a telescope or binoculars).

With Luna in Pisces – the last sign of the zodiac – we are usually naturally primed for releasing or letting go what is no longer serving us. Especially now, since we also have to hurry up and get ready for the New Moon Eclipse, in start-me-up Aries, on the 29th.

Luna in Pisces is excellent for self-reflection, meditation, performing random acts of kindness. A great time to maybe disconnect from technology, for a while, to re-order our disheveled worlds.

Meanwhile, lovable Venus Rx exits Aries and also shifts into Pisces this morning (4:41 am), conjuncting imaginative Neptune, shortly thereafter (9:13 am). This is often a very dreamy, highly creative, sensitizing influence that is sometimes linked to the arrival of a magical, fairy tale romance. Too, we had this same aspect on February 1st so it could be that we are sifting through or re-evaluating now whatever may have started then to determine whether or not we did, indeed, kiss a real prince – or just another frog.

Sometimes, too, we have to be extra careful with Venus-Neptune influences as often we are looking through the proverbial rose-colored glasses, at this time – just seeing what we want to see and pitching the rest. Although occasionally this strategy does work (I met both of my husbands under Venus-Neptune aspects).

daily astrology, investigation, Mercury sextile Pluto, spying

Cosmic Weather:

“Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.” – Aldous Huxley

Attention all self-styled truth seekers, onion peelers, news and information junkies, closeted Sherlock Holmes’ wannabees: the ever-bewildering Universe, undoubtedly, has all your collective backs today!

The highly distinguished factfinder/award-winning reporter Mercury retrograde, presently deposited in let me always be first on the scene Aries, has been dutifully dispatched to the drab digs of dwarf planet Pluto, in oddball Aquarius, where the temperature averages -387F (-232C).

Needless to say, this is exactly where Pluto, the “chilling,” enigmatic spy chief – who also doubles in its spare time as the symbolic ruler of our cryptic subconscious – characteristically likes the thermostat set, as it’s the absolute perfect environment to conduct its many various classified surveillance operations as no one with any measure of common sense would care to hang out there for very long.

Mercury-Pluto aspects typically fuel our investigative impulses/instincts and, before long, we can quickly become like the proverbial dog with a bone and just can’t quit – often resulting in, among other things, untruths or hidden motives being ferreted out, ancient or closely guarded secrets, solved or revealed.

Generally, too, it can be a great time to go deeper with a subject, especially regarding something we love or are otherwise fascinated by.

On another level, with Mercury governing speech and communication and Pluto’s more intense ray often synonymous with going to extremes or showcasing shock-jock type drama, it may become easier for our attention to become quickly captivated or glued to something we hear or read now, that we maybe can’t quite believe or are taken aback by. We may also personally be seeking more control (or manipulation) over others, at this time, or at least desiring to be seen or regarded as a person of persuasion.

“Character may also be called the most effective means of persuasion.” – Aristotle

This is actually Mercury’s second recent “sextile” rendezvous with Pluto, due to its retrograde phase. The first visit was on March 5th and the last one will be on April 20th. It could be that, today, we are taking a second look at what we may have unearthed, learned, or decided, during the first go-round.

Beatles Paul McCartney and John Lennon, born on this day, daily astrology, determination, Mars enters Capricorn, On This Day in History, perseverance

Cosmic Weather:

““When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this – you haven’t.” – Inventor, Thomas Edison

The Red Planet Mars, symbolizing our motivation and actions, moves into persevering Capricorn today (9:58 am) where it will presumably buckle down until February 13th. Mars is in its exaltation in Saturn-ruled Capricorn suggesting that we are potentially more behaviorally equipped now, during this period, to temper our impulses in a more serious and determined manner in our ongoing quest to claim our (inevitable) sweet perch atop the mountain in 2024. 🙂

Mars in Capricorn is typically regarded as being highly ambitious, status-conscious, and results-driven, perennially keeping a steely eye on the big prize.

Too, Mars in Capricorn ideally helps us to manage our resources – including our valuable time – more effectively and strategically. Always a good thing.

“A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.” –Charles Darwin

Some famous people with Mars in Capricorn include Albert Einstein, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Shakira.

*All times EST

Born On This Day: English physicist, mathematician and astronomer Isaac Newton (Gravity, Laws of Motion) in 1643 in Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, England (d. 1727).

“Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who sets the planets in motion.” – Isaac Newton

On This Day in History: On January 4, 1865, the New York Stock Exchange opens for business in its first permanent headquarters on Broad St, near Wall Street, in NYC. The Exchange had formally existed since 1792 but had reportedly operated out of a series of packed Wall Street coffee-houses and rented offices. (gilderlehrman.org)

Astrologically, that day, Venus – which governs money as well as relationships – was in futuristic Aquarius and applying to an exact flowing trine to electrifying Uranus in Gemini, the astrological sign which rules our immediate locale or surroundings. Positive Venus-Uranus aspects are generally regarded as being more favorable for finance-related matters. Venus also governs beauty or aesthetics and connected with Uranus there may be a desire to modernize or update our environment in novel ways.

Too, this planetary duo is sometimes linked with sudden attractions. For instance, Paul McCartney and John Lennon reportedly met each other for the very first time when Venus and Uranus were conjunct in entertainment Leo. Their financial future together also appeared to work out pretty well! 🙂

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Also, this morning, lovable Venus, in footloose and fancy-free Sagittarius, forms an exact square to Saturn in Pisces (8:25 am). Since Saturn and its exhaustive array of rings extending millions of miles out from the planet signifies restrictions or boundary setting, it could be that we are understandably feeling a little (or a lot!) walled in at the moment. Venus governs our relationships, finances, and values and when it is aligned with responsibility-minded Saturn, we are perceived to be more inclined to feel the weightiness of it all and what to do about it.

(Thought it was also interesting how Queen Margrethe ll of Denmark announced yesterday, during her New Years speech, that she plans to abdicate after 52 years and hand over the throne to her son, Crown Prince Frederik – reportedly catching everyone by surprise. Too, when I first heard the news, I immediately thought of this pending Venus-Saturn aspect today as it is sometimes correlated with the ending of ties or relationships, especially those that are viewed or regarded as more dutiful in nature.)

We also close out this first day of the new year, with messenger Mercury stationing direct in Sagittarius (10:07 pm) after a retrograde period that commenced on December 13th. In the coming days, our decision-making process ideally becomes clearer as Mercury begins to pick up speed.

Born On This Day: American Novelist J.D. Salinger in NYC, New York in 1919 (d. 2010).

“The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one.” – J.D. Salinger, Catcher in the Rye

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.
