Cosmic Weather:

“Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.” – Anais Nin

No matter that many of us in the U.S. may be bummed out by the brutal cold weather that has currently hijacked much of the country, making holiday travel very difficult – even treacherous or impossible in some regions – today’s astrology still suggests that we may want to consider hitching either our wagon or SUV to a twinkling star and making a wish as thinker Mercury in Scrooge-minded Capricorn forms a magical sextile to transcendental Neptune in fairy-tale Pisces (8:17 pm), suggesting that the veil between worlds is thinner now.

Who knows, this more forgiving, envisioning aspect may even convince Santa to overlook our myriad transgressions, this past year, and charitably leave us something under the tree tonight other than the usual lump of coal in our stockings. 🙂

Mercury-Neptune is excellent for any type of creative work as it may more readily propel us into a state of dreaminess or relaxed consciousness. At the same time, Mercury in organizing, practical Capricorn can help add definition or form to any of the byproducts that visionary Neptune conjures up. We may also want to keep a journal by our bed tonight, as this influence can give rise to very vivid nocturnal dreams as well. What is also interesting about our dreams, and their particular content, is that they often seem to mirror, in symbolic fashion, the astrological themes of the moment.

Due to Mercury stationing retrograde on December 29, we will also have this Mercury-Neptune aspect two more times – on January 2 and February 6 – suggesting something that we undertake today may be put aside and sent back to the drawing board for a redo, before it is finally awarded its angel wings.

On This Day in History: On December 24, 1955, NORAD’s Santa tracking service begins. The event is now a Christmas tradition where the North American Aerospace Defense Command tracks Santa Claus as he travels around the world delivering presents to children. The event began after a printing error in a Sears catalog asking children to call Santa Claus. The number that was printed was the number of Colorado Springs’ Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Center. (timeanddate.com)

(Among the astrological aspects, that day, love goddess Venus had just entered hi-tech, aircraft-ruling Aquarius, at 0 degrees, and was forming an exact square to fantasy Neptune at 0 degrees of transformational Scorpio. Venus was also opposing trend-setting Uranus, at 1 degree of theatrical Leo, an influence that often has us searching for “out of the ordinary” experiences that ideally add some extra pizzazz to our lives. Also, very helpful then was ‘Santa Claus’ Jupiter’s near exact trine to the empowering Capricorn Sun. Positive Sun-Jupiter aspects often expand feelings of peace and goodwill and tends to operate on a broad scale.; the Capricorn Sun is also very tradition minded.)

“We have to deal with a polar vortex once in a while, but Santa lives year-round in one at the North Pole, so he’s used to this weather,” deadpanned U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Ben Wiseman, a spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, which tracks the yuletide flight. (Denver, December 24, 2022, Reuters.com)

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well this Christmas Eve.

Astrology December 21, 2022: Sun Enters Capricorn, Squares Jupiter

“I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.” Oprah Winfrey

Sun enters Capricorn (4:48 pm) – This ingress also marks the Winter Solstice point in the Northern Hemisphere – the shortest day of the year with the longest night of the year. After this date, there will be a ‘return of the light’ as the days will grow longer, the nights shorter, the Sun symbolically marking a rebirth from death or darkness. Likewise, it can be a time when we may become clearer or more illuminated with respect to what we would like to birth or manifest in the new year, as well as what we may need to release.

Saturn-ruled Capricorn, represented by the mountain goat, symbolizes the slow but steady ascent to the top. The Sun in Capricorn teaches us the power of patience, focus, self-discipline, and experience.

Interestingly enough, shortly after the Sun enters Capricorn today it will also form a square to expansive Jupiter, newly installed in the irrepressible sign of Aries the Ram (7:50 pm); this pairing between the two largest bodies in our solar system could be a bit tricky for us to navigate as Jupiter tends to implore us to ‘go big’ or pull out all the stops, while the Sun in cautious Cappie is an advocate for more restraint.

While it may be very possible for us to reach new heights now, there is also the possibility that we find that there is a hefty price for us to pay later if we try to do too much or overburden our resources. Kind of like the proverbial scenario of overeating at the buffet bar only to discover afterwards that we no longer can fit into our britches. Jupiter can be the planet of luck and prosperity, but it also can be the cosmic indicator of excess. The prudent Sun in Capricorn suggests – when in doubt – ‘going small’ or moderating our impulses may be the wisest strategy that saves the day for us and allows us to shine our light ‘in all its glory’ over the long-term.

“Excessive sorrow laughs. Excessive joy weeps.” – William Blake

On This Day in History – Apollo 8 went into space: the 1st manned Moon voyage launched with astronauts Frank Borman, Jim Lovell and William Anders.

Astrologically, on that day, Jupiter and Uranus were closely conjunct (less than one degree apart) in the sign of Libra, with Libra’s ruler, Venus, deposited in innovative Aquarius. Jupiter represents long distance travel and Uranus governs technology and aviation (and also rules Aquarius). Often when these two are paired we experience sudden opportunities and a broadening of our horizons. This aspect is also associated with elements of genius. Also, consciousness downloads.

“And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you – all of you on the good Earth.” — Frank Borman

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology December 20, 2022: Jupiter Re-enters Aries

Cosmic Weather:

“If you put yourself in a position where you have to stretch outside your comfort zone, then you are forced to expand your consciousness.” – Les Brown

Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system – and more than twice as big as all the other planets combined – makes its grand re-entry into fiery Aries the Ram this morning (9:32 am), where it will remain until May 16, 2023. Earlier this year, on May 10th, Jupiter first entered Aries, then stationed retrograde on July 28th, and ingressed back into Pisces on October 28th. Projects that we began back in May, that were then put on the back burner during the retrograde phase, are now ready to be resumed, possibly with greater definition or form to them as a result of the reflective Rx period. Too, if maybe we were a little late to the game in May and missed the first Jupiter in Aries rollout, we have a second chance now to maybe hit one out of the park.

Just like its physical size, Jupiter tends to operate in more of a gargantuan – or as a former US president might say – a bigly fashion. It can push us to our limits – and beyond – especially when it is given free rein in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, associated with pioneering, self-assertion, and personal new beginnings. Jupiter in Aries is thought to be an excellent time to focus on matters that add to our self-discovery, elevate courage or bravery, and contribute to our sense that we are making a positive difference in the world. We will also want to make sure that we remain very focused on our vision and what we are trying to accomplish during this time. Some shadow-side manifestations of Jupiter in Aries include trying to do too much, going to excess, being too self-righteous or arrogant, and becoming too aggressive.

*All times EST

On This Day in History: On December 20, 1860, South Carolina became the first state to secede from the Union as all 169 delegates to a special convention in Charleston voted in favor of separation. South Carolina wanted to withdraw from the US because Abraham Lincoln, a member of the new Republican party, had just been elected president, and wanted to stop slavery from spreading into western territories. South Carolina lawmakers, meanwhile, were concerned that any interference with slavery would end their way of life. They also believed they had a constitutional right to take property – including slaves – anywhere. (manythings.org)

Astrologically, that day, among the notable aspects, was an exact square between Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Gemini, which were both at 9 degrees of their respective signs. The square between these two bodies is often associated with experiencing a great deal of tension or pressure as the desire to maintain the status quo (Saturn) is seemingly seriously threatened by radical change (Uranus), which can then lead to taking unprecedented actions. Decision-maker Mercury, in ideologically-oriented Sagittarius, was also at 8 degrees then and applying to an exact square to Saturn and opposition to Uranus (creating a mutable T-square in the sky); Mercury square Saturn can find us making decisions based on fear, while Mercury opposing Uranus can propel us to act more boldly or precipitously.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Cosmic Weather:

“The distance between us grows with each passing minute. Will he take my arm again, or will I have to take his?” – Stephanie Perkins, Lola and the Boy Next Door

Venus in Capricorn Squares Chiron Rx in Aries (11:22 am): This aspect may find us reliving old relationship wounds, including possibly rehashing the sting of rejection by lovers or maybe fallouts with workmates, which could result in, among other things, more of a hesitancy to want to commit. Too, another possibility is that we may be feeling unworthy or pressured because we perceive that we have not really lived up to our own expectations for ourselves. Of course, we can also choose to put a more positive spin on things here by focusing, perhaps, on what we are grateful for, including lessons learned.

Venus in Capricorn Quincunx Mars Rx in Gemini (12:36 pm): This aspect suggests some possible awkwardness going after what we want. It could be, too, that our timing may be off or that we are trying too hard.

Mars Rx in Gemini Sextile Chiron Rx in Aries (5:37 pm): This helps us to acknowledge our missteps or insecurities and activates us to want to do something about them so that we can move on. Talking about things may also be healing now.

On This Day in History: On December 19, 1843, the revered classic “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens is published.

Among the astrological aspects, of that day: expansive Jupiter – commonly regarded as the goodwill ambassador – and also the planet which governs literature and publishing, was conjunct Neptune, the planet of imagination, in altruistic, collective-minded Aquarius, an aspect that can also appreciably magnify our idealism. Both were also sextile to the empowering Sun in the Jupiter-ruled sign of Sagittarius; Sadge rules our beliefs and convictions, as well as our sense of ethics or morality. The Sun-Jupiter sextile is also particularly favorable for publishing; it can also help a matter to have a broader impact.

Cosmic Weather:

“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storms, but to add color to my sunset sky.” – Rabindranath Tagore

Waning Moon in Libra sextiles the Sun in Sagittarius (5:03 pm): Optimally, this prompts us to want to create more space in our lives for beauty, art, balance, and justice. A desire for personal freedom is also paired with a need for collaboration.

Mars Rx in Gemini sesquiquadrate Pluto in Capricorn (5:19 pm): Attempts at self-assertion may be bogged down by fears or worries. Temporarily stepping away, however, may help us to gain a greater perspective and a restored sense of self-confidence.

“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning to how to sail my ship.” – Louisa May Alcott

Luna will also close out her Sunday with a shift into Scorpio (10:31 pm), encouraging us to go deeper with our emotions. Simply acknowledging our feelings without judgment is often a good point of entry here.

Cosmic Weather:

“Necessity, they say, is the mother of invention, but fear, too, is not barren of ingenious suggestions.” – Joseph Conrad

Mercury in Capricorn trines Uranus in Taurus (4:37 pm): This suggests more of a willingness to embrace or entertain new ideas, or to look at things from different perspectives – especially if we sense that by doing so we will likely be gaining some kind of practical or material advantage that may make our lives function more smoothly.

Additionally, this aspect can also help to speed up our mental processes and facilitate intuition.

Astrologically, that day, the empowering Sun was applying to an exact conjunction with innovative Uranus (the planet governing aviation) in the futuristic travel sign of Sagittarius. Sun-Uranus days can often be big game-changers for us, setting us on a whole new course; our tolerance for risk is usually much higher than as well as our need for experimentation. Mars and Saturn were also conjunct in Uranus-ruled Aquarius, an aspect that is thought to be quite helpful with aiding concentration and perfecting techniques.

Cosmic Weather:

“You’ll see it when you believe it.” – Wayne W. Dyer

Our sense of confidence, optimism, and personal power could all be on the rise now as the authoritative Sun in renewing Scorpio trines expansive Jupiter Rx in imaginative, caring Pisces (11:07 pm). This influence is commonly thought to be a very propitious time to take important steps toward our goals or vision.

Jupiter serves as the official philosopher of the zodiac and also epitomizes or symbolizes positive thinking or a can-do spirit as well as fostering a deeper understanding, which can also occasionally lead to such things as the emergence of some cool aha moments or possibly experiencing amazing synchronicities (meaningful coincidences), which may help to steer us further along on our Soul’s special path.

At the least, it is a good day to do something fun – maybe travel or sightseeing? – or engage in an activity that fills our hearts with joy or positivity.  It is also an excellent time to reach out to others – especially, perhaps, those persons who may be down on their luck for whatever reason – to show them some bighearted compassion and generosity; Sun trine Jupiter, archetypally, can also denote “channeling our inner Santa.”

“Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings and propel us, on occasion, to greatness.” – R.J. Palacio

On This Day in History: On November 20, 1947, Princess Elizabeth marries Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten (who becomes the Duke of Edinburgh) at Westminster Abbey in London. Elizabeth and Philip were married for 73 years until Philip’s death in April 2021 at 99 years old. Their lifelong love story actually began when they were teenagers.

Astrologically, when Elizabeth and Philip tied the knot, romantic Venus was in playful Sagittarius and harmoniously trine to Mars (passion), Saturn (longevity), and Pluto (transformational), with the latter three planets all conjunct in the regal sign of Leo. Too, Venus was sextile to fantasy Neptune – in the matrimonial sign of Libra – no doubt, injecting an element of a storybook romance into the cosmic equation.

Hope it’s a good one! Please be safe and well.

Astrology October 9, 2022: Full Moon in Aries

Cosmic Weather:

“I found power in accepting the truth of who I am. It may not be a truth that others can accept, but I cannot live any other way. How would it be to live a lie every minute of your life?” – Alison Goodman

Nice enough quote. But unfortunately, for those of us who may still be a little or a lot baffled navigating through the hazy, never-ending, much-ballyhooed ‘self-discovery process,’ today’s revelatory Full Moon in “I Am” Aries may feel enormously intimidating and frustrating as it boldly prompts us to make ourselves a priority, to take chances, and to live out our whole truth on an impromptu stack of bibles or coloring books or whatever is available or handy at the moment. Yet, where is the official, step-by-step instruction manual on precisely how to do all this? There has got to be one lurking about somewhere. After all, it is 2022! We did not just arrive here by boat yesterday. Too, not everyone is interested in reinventing the wheel. Maybe that is because we are not yet that desperate!

Also, what if we fall off a cliff in the process of flying by the seat of our pants? – a common Aries practice. Who is going to be there to rescue us toting a big bowl of hot chicken soup? Chances are nobody! – except maybe a plaintiff’s attorney born under the sign of Cancer. But that is how the fearless Full Moon in Aries rolls: We are pretty much on our own – and that’s that – and we are supposed to revel and delight in this awful, woeful Libra-denying reality.

But isn’t it also natural – and actually very healthy and maybe admirable – to declare that we may have cold feet or serious doubts about all the supposed ultimate payoffs of giving ourselves full rein to be exactly who we are? Meaning we would perhaps rather just wait it out until the final verdict is in.

Plus, today’s Full Moon conjuncts wounded warrior Chiron – which likely means we will be shamed big time if we even think for a moment about comparing ourselves to others. Even worse if we find ourselves lacking in the comparison – which no doubt would ostracize us for life from participating in nearly everything under both the Sun and Moon combined. Cannot even imagine a much worse fate – except maybe also being banned for life from Twitter. Think I am already feeling Wednesday’s “out-of-body” Mars-Neptune square. 🙂

“I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.” – Groucho Marx

If it were only that easy.

Born On This Day: Beatle John Lennon in 1940 in Liverpool, England (d. 1980):

Astrology October 6, 2022: Mercury Trine Pluto

Tags

Cosmic Weather:

“The best vision is insight.” – Malcolm Forbes

Perhaps the third time will be a charm as intellectual Mercury – now moving direct in solutions-oriented Virgo – forms a flowing trine to penetrating, transformational Pluto (11:56 pm), with the latter planet also stationing direct, just two days from now, on October 8th at 26 degrees of Capricorn; Mercury and Pluto were also trined earlier on August 22nd and September 27th as part of the Winged Messenger’s retrograde cycle.

Accordingly, now may be a propitious period to finally figure out what may have eluded us before as elements that may have been blocking or obscuring our view or progress are cleared away or begin to retreat at the moment.

Astrologers often compare Mercury-Pluto alignments to having X-ray vision. The harmonious trine aspect also tends to operate or unfold with relative ease – although anytime Mercury and Pluto are paired there does also potentially tend to be more of an obsessive component at play with our thoughts or thinking as we may feel more gripped by various factors now, that possibly keep propelling us to want to go deeper and deeper into matters. It can be an excellent time for research.

With Mercury also governing communication it is possible that words can be used in a more riveting or persuasive way now to achieve our goals or objectives. (Mystery writer Agatha Christie had her natal Mercury in Libra trine to her Pluto in Gemini.)

“Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or evil.” – Buddha

Meanwhile, the Waxing Moon also shifts from detached Aquarius to sensitive Pisces (8:47 am), a lunar period often associated with release or healing.

Astrology September 5, 2022: Venus Enters Virgo

Tags

Cosmic Weather:

“There is no excellence without labor. One cannot dream oneself into either usefulness or happiness.” – Liberty Hyde Bailey

Overnight, Venus – the planet of love, pleasure, finances, and values – joined the Sun in earthy, refining Virgo (12:05 am) where it will reside until September 29th. This transit potentially ups our desire to be of service or utility to others in practical ways that not only impart our love or appreciation for those we care about but also aim to improve the natural order of things around us.

Self-improvement endeavors may also gain traction now with Virgo being the sign of health and wellness; there may also be more of an affinity or fondness now for formally charting our results or progress in these areas. Organizing our finances may also be something else that we are now more concerned about.

(I actually dreamt last night of marking down all my daily activities and checking how much time I spent on each endeavor which, I’ve read and know, is a great way to hold ourselves accountable for what we do – or fail to do each day. Too – at least in my case – it can often be very humbling to see how long it sometimes takes me to perform even the simplest of tasks.)

Since Virgo also governs work and job skills Venus’s passage through this sign may result in our taking more pleasure at this time in our work or in perfecting our craft. It is also an excellent time to take measures to improve the workplace.

On the shadow side, Venus in Virgo tends to worry about relationships. Being overly critical of others can also be a turn-off.

“Watch out for the joy-stealers: gossip, criticism, complaining, faultfinding, and a negative, judgmental attitude.” – Joyce Meyer

The Waxing Moon is also in ambitious, methodical Capricorn today, boding well for follow-through with tasks. The Moon’s trine to the Virgo Sun (8:25 pm) also helps to promote a greater sense of inner and outer well-being.
