This Wednesday morning, Mercury is stationing direct in practical Capricorn (8:12 am) – the sign which governs career, responsibilities, reputation, and self-mastery. This suggests that some of the ideas, plans, or directives pertaining to these areas – that were maybe creatively fermented or concocted during Mercury’s three-week retrograde (or re-ordering) phase – will now begin to pick up some momentum or traction in the days and weeks ahead, allowing us to make forward progress in our lives.

Too, as thinker Mercury seemingly changes its direction in the sky now, it is thought that it is best to refrain from making any key decisions, for the moment, so as to allow some time for the planet to get re-oriented, a bit, to its surroundings.

The Sun and Pluto are also having their annual conjunction in Capricorn today (9:44 am), which can sometimes seem to rachet up the level of intensity in our lives as well as our surroundings. The Sun governs our ego, will, and sense of power, while Pluto symbolizes control and transformation.

While this aspect can manifest in various ways, sometimes it appears to coincide with a burning desire now for what could be regarded as wanting to implement extreme makeovers, or radical do-overs, sensing that what currently exists around us is either outworn or decaying and will perish soon without some kind of intervention – which may or may not exactly be the case – although it may certainly feel that way to us now. On a psychological side, this aspect tends to acquaint us with our shadow side, including our fears or possible manipulative impulses. Overall, this influence can often be a cathartic type of experience as it may motivate us to face down perhaps what scares us, or makes us feel uncomfortable, so that we can maybe make some changes that allow us to more confidently step into our own power.

This Tuesday morning, Luna in Scorpio is in her Waning Crescent Phase, and sextile to both the empowering Sun (7:36 am) and transformational Pluto in Capricorn (9:27 am) – a period which is perceived to be a boon – at least on paper – for any kind of purging, decluttering, or refurbishing projects, including on the corporate or business front.

Tomorrow, too, the annual Sun-Pluto conjunction will become exact. Often that pairing poises us to want to, among other things, closely scrutinize matters in a determined bid to exposing any possible weaknesses or kinks in the underlying infrastructure of things so we have a better idea of what maybe needs to be either shored up or pitched or possibly even reformulated. Pluto is linked with X-ray vision and tends to reveal what is hidden in the depths. This morning’s lunar aspects could also be a bit of a preview or test-run for what follows tomorrow.

And, of course, we also have homing pigeon Mercury stationing direct in Capricorn tomorrow.

In between all that, Luna will also shift into freedom-loving Sagittarius around lunchtime today (12:33 pm), which usually serves to stoke our visionary side.

This Friday the 13th the empowering Sun in ambitious Capricorn forms a closing sextile to transpersonal Neptune in Pisces (9:11 am). This more subtle influence sometimes nudges us to go beyond the normal confines of our personal egos to perhaps find some common ground or common purpose that can seemingly bring us all together – allow us to maybe temporarily dissolve or suspend our differences, particularly on a deeper emotional level. It is associated with the bestowal of empathy as well as compassion.

On this second Thursday of January, perceived energy dynamo Mars – which is also thought to signify motivation, assertion, and aggression – finally stations direct in the communication and travel sign of Gemini today, at 8 degrees (3:56 pm) – after a more than two-month retrograde cycle which began on October 30th.

Too, if you remember, it was also around that same time – October 27th, to be precise – that Elon Musk acquired the social media platform Twitter for $44 billion.

Also, free speech and content moderation – both Gemini-ruled areas – have recently become pretty hot topics or flashpoints for discussion since Musk became Chief Twit at the company.

Also, yesterday’s massive FAA computer system outage that temporarily brought nearly all air travel to a total halt in the US was occurring at the same time mover and shaker Mars was pretty much motionless in the sky, ahead of today’s official direct stationing.

Too, with galvanizing Mars seemingly springing into direct motion again we will also, hopefully, reclaim the spring in our step, in the days and weeks ahead (Mars will be in its shadow until mid-March). activity!)

This second Wednesday in January, we are treated to a Grand Earth Trine – courtesy of skilled maven Luna in Virgo. This type of configuration is created when a trio of planets in the Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) form an equilateral triangle of three trines in the sky. In a nutshell, it is thought to be a boon for productivity and delivering concrete results.

Luna forms the first leg of this Grand Trine to intellectual Mercury Rx in Capricorn (9:58 am). Ideally, an excellent time to gather/reflect upon our thoughts or partake in constructive dialogue with others. We may also have more insight into the inner workings of our emotions at this time.

Too, if we have to speak or present things publicly today – particularly of a business or corporate nature – this Moon-Mercury trine may be a more advantageous time to do so since this flow of more pragmatic energy naturally lends itself well to discussing more granular topics such as facts and figures, presiding over spreadsheet presentations, detailing quarterly forecasts/reports etc. (although with Mercury Rx, there could still be some revisions with these matters, down the road).

Luna’s trine to inventive Uranus Rx in Taurus (4:17 pm). This completes the second leg of the Moon’s Grand Trine. It is a period in which we may be more experimental or spontaneous in our approaches, including perhaps with respect to managing our finances, possessions, or investments. It may also be a time when we enjoy social interactions with large groups of people or involvement in cause-related or civic activities. On an emotional level, we may feel a special burst of aliveness.

The transition from Leo to Virgo is always rather stark, isn’t it? As we are essentially going from wanting to be the “life of the party” to officially becoming part of the late night “clean-up crew!” 🙂

Ideally, the Moon’s two-day transit of Virgo now will help us to become more self-disciplined, efficient, and productive. More solution minded. This Monday morning, the “Cosmic Lovers” are aligned in the sky, ideally boding well for romance or matters of the heart as well as socializing and endeavors that require cooperation or points of agreement. Mercury Rx in Capricorn Trine Uranus Rx in Taurus (6:23 pm): This aspect can be very mentally stimulating. It can inspire us to want to learn new things, help us to craft new, sometimes even ingenious solutions to old problems. We also may be more prone now to speaking our minds – although with Mercury nestled in cautious Capricorn, we may still prefer to have at least some kind of personal filter or content moderation system in place, lest we inadvertently draw the scrutiny of the FBI or something. 🙂 At the same time, we may not necessarily wig out now either, if we see someone bending or breaking the rules, especially if we see some utility or wisdom in doing that sort of thing as we suspect that some of the old way of thinking or systems in place may be possibly irrelevant or misguided or even obsolete with respect to what we and others are trying to achieve at the moment.

Additionally, this aspect can fire up our intuition as well as make us more eager to deviate from our daily routines. We also may be more attracted to unusual types of people, be more cause-oriented, or find ourselves in novel situations that require new adaptive responses on our part.

We first had this Mercury trine Uranus aspect on December 17th. We will also have it a third or final time on January 29th when both Mercury and Uranus will be direct; Mercury stations direct on January 18th and Uranus follows suit on January 22 – just a day after the Uranus-ruled New Moon in Aquarius.

It is also possible that today we are revisiting a matter that we first dealt with on December 17th, perhaps seeing it in a new light now.

Waning Luna is also spending her first full day in creative, magnanimous Leo today, having shifted into that sign, late yesterday. Luna’s sextile to Mars Rx in Gemini (2:19 pm) signals a time to take the lead or show initiative in matters. It also favors physical activity or workouts.

Sun in Capricorn forms a Waning Trine to Uranus Rx in Taurus (11:43 am) – We appear to be more receptive to altering or tweaking some of our strategies or plans now and revisions that are made seem to be less of a stretch for us as they may have been things that were already at least blips on our radar screen, so to speak, so we are not necessarily thrown for a loop at this point. Additionally, we may be more open to experimentation or trying out new methodologies or technologies especially if we feel that by doing so, we can save both time and money.

Also, we should keep in mind that the Sun in Capricorn characteristically operates in more of a utilitarian manner and will do whatever it needs in order to not only survive but thrive. At the same time, there may also be a burgeoning desire now to want to do our own thing without having to endure too much external interference. It’s like, we will do what we need to do; however, we are not going to allow others to rain on our parade without launching at least some kind of resistance unless we feel that doing so would be counterproductive. Too, with the more harmonious trine aspect, hopefully things will just sort of fall into place on their own and that will be that.

Luna also exits chatty Gemini this morning (9:15 am), ending a long void of course period with its entrance into protective Cancer. And then, of course, we will have the Full Moon in Cancer, tomorrow evening (6:08 pm).

Too, around lunchtime today (12:50 pm) Luna will form a square to Jupiter in Aries – an influence that tends to magnify our emotions as well as possibly accentuate our ideological side. There could also be a bit of a tug-of-war going on here now regarding how best to preserve elements of the past while at the same time welcoming in new horizons. Of course, the Sun-Uranus influence points us more in the direction of the future. A solution seems to be to take what you need from the past but do not overload on it. Set a limit on the baggage allowed on board just like the airlines. 🙂

Venus in Aquarius sextile Jupiter in Aries (4:08 am) – This more pleasant, feel-good aspect – often linked with the bestowal or arrival of love, generosity, and kindness – suggests that some good fortune or positive karma may be in the cards for us today! Wouldn’t that be nice?

Too, while it’s not necessarily a huge aspect, it can be a time when we feel a bit more optimistic or hopeful. Especially when we are perhaps gathered with friends or loved ones, or simply doing things that we enjoy. It’s often a great time to have a party. Or to mingle with new people from diverse backgrounds – especially now with Venus in eclectic Aquarius.

Also, it could be that this potentially nice cosmic payback is in humble recognition for some of the accumulated good that we have somehow managed to generate in the world to date – despite, sometimes, the onerous presence of many overriding, contradictory, inherent behavioral tendencies, within our delicate being, that often causes us to seemingly screw up much of what we touch. Psychiatrists call these tendencies the “reverse Midas Touch” or the “Midas-less Touch.” Too, if you were watching C-SPAN yesterday you maybe witnessed Kevin McCarthy displaying a few symptoms, of this condition – on the House floor – after the third vote was counted,

Too, it is really fascinating, astrologically – the correlation – that we now have no Speaker of the House at a time when ‘speaker’ Mercury in Capricorn – the sign which rules government – is also retrograde. Along with mover or shaker Mars retrograde, which is essentially at a standstill now, in the heavens, in Mercury-ruled Gemini – ahead of his direct station on January 12. Maybe I’m making too much of all of this. But it just strikes me as hugely symbolic for the moment. Too, feel free to weigh in here, if you like.
