“When you fully focus your mind, you make others attracted to you.” Toba Beta

COSMIC WATCH:

Even though the Moon is still passing through mystical Pisces, during the day, it may be best if we descended from the clouds and focused our thoughts on attending to more practical matters instead. Mental Mercury is harmoniously trining disciplined Saturn. It’s also sextile perceptive Pluto. These are excellent aspects for concentration, organization, research, and serious study and for communicating detailed information. We tend to choose our words more carefully now. This may also be a positive time to seek out advice from mentoring types or others whose judgment we value. Saturn symbolically represents authority figures, or more senior individuals. Sometimes on Mercury-Saturn days, we also hear from important persons from our past. Could even be individuals from our karmic past.

Famous Birthdays February 12: Josh Brolin, Lorne Greene, Franco Zeffirelli, Arsenio Hall, Abraham Lincoln.  “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” Abraham Lincoln.

Astrology and the News: Pope Benedict XVI , who is an Aries, announced his pending resignation from his post on Monday with transiting Mars exactly square to his natal Saturn in his personal horoscope. Mars-Saturn aspects are often associated with endings, withdrawals, or retreats from action, so it is no surprise that he would formally announce his retirement under this influence. Mars-Saturn aspects can also indicate time periods in our lives when we feel more frustrated and less up to challenges. Mars is the planet of energy and action and Saturn symbolically represents resistance, limitations, delays, and blockages. When these two planets combine, it’s like trying to drive a car with the brakes on. You don’t get very far.

As I also mentioned in Monday’s blog, Pope Benedict made public his resignation with the transiting Mars separating from an exact square to Jupiter in the heavens. Mars-Jupiter influences can coincide with our taking important action (Mars) based on matters of our faith or beliefs (Jupiter). Jesus Christ was even thought to have been born when Mars and Jupiter were aligned together in the sky.

COSMIC WATCH:

The Moon in idealistic Pisces helps us tap into our more charitable side. There is also a transforming quality to the morning as the Moon sextiles renewing Pluto (10:40 am EST). Something that was perhaps hidden or concealed to us before, may now finally be viewed or understood, or at least partially grasped.

Lovable Venus squaring serious Saturn may also find us duly reflecting upon our relationships and whether or not we are getting our needs met.

“When you stop expecting people to be perfect, you can like them for who they are.” Donald Miller

Famous Birthdays February 11: Burt Reynolds, Jennifer Aniston, Manuel Noriega, Sarah Palin

“Buck up or stay in the truck.” Sarah Palin

In the News: It was announced today that Pope Benedict XVI will resign from his post on February 28. This surprising announcement comes on the heels of Mars (in spiritual Pisces) exactly squaring Jupiter (in newsmaker Gemini) just yesterday.

It is often the nature of action-oriented Mars to trigger “historic firsts.” Jupiter is also the planet of organized religion.

Enjoy your Monday!

Astrology February 10, 2013: New Moon in Aquarius, Mars Squares Jupiter

“Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.” Tom Robbins

COSMIC WATCH:

Today’s New Moon in “experimental” Aquarius is a chance for us to symbolically wipe the slate clean and begin anew for another month. Even those of us wedded to certain agendas may find that this New Moon is an exhilarating template for doing some major or minor re-visioning of our plans or strategies. The Aquarian New Moon encourages us to throw out the old rules book in hopes of improving upon, or at least jazzing up, our present day reality. Too, we will individually want to see what house this lunation is falling in, in our personal horoscopes, as that is the area of life in which we may sense a shift beginning to take place and a real need for changing things up, or for trying out new approaches.

Ideally, this lunation will foster within us an empowering sense of wonderment about what might be possible for us if we but dared to abdicate, or at least temporarily suspend, our self-limiting judgments or beliefs, for a while, and moved instead in the direction of our grandest dreams and the Miraculous Unknown, where an endless array of possibilities are always given wings.

Too, our thirst or desire for new experiences, or new growth, is likely peaking now. Alongside this hopeful lunation, we have adventurous Mars in an exact square with expansive Jupiter. This galvanizing influence naturally poises us for risk-taking, although we will also want to make sure that we know what our end goals are, before getting into the game. Otherwise, we could find ourselves over-committing or over-promising, as Mars-Jupiter can make us overzealous and overconfident. It is, however, a very creative aspect and one that often allows us to move mountains.

We are also more inclined to let others know our opinions or viewpoints on things now. Some of us may even feel compelled to do a little preaching or proselytizing from the mountaintop, as we are busy moving it, as Jupiter governs our faith, higher convictions and overall philosophy of life. The idealistic Aquarius New Moon also potentially positions us to be involved with noble causes outside of ourselves. “Social entrepreneurs are not content to give a fish or teach how to fish. They will not rest until they have revolutionized the fishing industry.” Bill Drayton.

Famous Birthdays February 10: Robert Wagner, Glenn Beck, George Stephanopoulos. “I believe in original sin … I know that I’m capable of craving a cold beer in a village of starving kids … I understand that selfishness vies for space in our hearts with compassion …” George Stephanopoulos.

New Moon Blessings!

COSMIC WATCH:

Perceiving ourselves and the world around us with fresh eyes, perhaps by trying on new perspectives, may be a way that we can positively align with the rhythm of the cosmos today as the Moon continues her excursion through inquiring Aquarius, where it also meets up with adventurous, pioneering Mars. The process of detaching or distancing ourselves from our preconceived notions or ideas, and our emotional biases, not only helps us to know and understand ourselves better, it also affords us a chance to glean greater awareness or insight into the natural order of things, sort of like moving beyond the cradle of a shallow pond into an open, vast, welcoming sea. “Thoughts are like burning stars, and ideas, they flood, they stretch the universe.” Criss Jami

“Today, befriend a stranger, or if you feel up to more of a challenge, befriend a loved one.“ Robert Brault

COSMIC WATCH:

Today we may feel a bit more inclined to “walk on the wild side.” We not only have the Moon’s ingress into nonconforming Aquarius (4:01 am EST), which tends to find us deviating or breaking free from our daily routines. Sweet Venus (love, values, money) is also square experimental Uranus (individuality), the modern ruler of Aquarius.

With Venus-Uranus, we can be more impulsive or spontaneous with our desires. It is an aspect that is associated with sudden flings or infatuations.  We may also feel a need to jazz up our social life or partake in activities that we normally would not engage in. Or we might also be more tempted to part with money for novel or unusual purchases, or impulse buys. Too, if we are already in debt after the holidays, we may want to consider leaving the credit cards at home today. Various studies have shown that we do tend to spend more when we are paying for our goods with a credit card versus paying for them with cash. “I spent a lot of money on booze, birds, and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.” George Best

“If you can’t do great things, do small things in a great way.” Napoleon Hill

COSMIC WATCH:

Most of us set out to be successful in life. We never hear anybody say, “I hope to be a failure when I grow up!” Yet, many of us do manage to miss the mark, occasionally, even with the best intentions to get ahead. Maybe our timing was off. Or maybe we simply tried to accomplish too much, too soon, and ended up overwhelmed.

Today’s New Moon in “upwardly mobile” Capricorn the Goat (2:44 pm EST), the sign of career, goal-setting, reputation and status, will hopefully be the trumpet call that motivates us to forge ahead again with our personal dreams and ambitions. Perhaps even jump start those NYE resolutions that have become a little lifeless of late.

We have a stellium in “utilitarian” Capricorn now: The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Pluto. This potent concentration of cosmic energies can help us become more efficient, resourceful and self-disciplined in how we do things.  This New Moon is an excellent opportunity to become more mindful of how we are spending our time and allocating our resources. Capricorn is ruled by precise Saturn, the planet known as “Father Time.”

Some questions we may want to ask ourselves now, as we embark upon another new beginning, which is what a New Moon symbolizes: What systems or processes can we put into place that will allow us to work smarter, instead of harder? What can we say “no” to, so we can focus on the things that we have a passion for? How can we better maximize our strengths, and minimize our weaknesses?

Of course, before we even begin to venture forward with our goals now, we also want to make sure that we are crystal clear on where we are going, and how to get there. If we’re not certain, we may want to ask the benevolent universe to kindly guide us. Then simply pay attention to the various clues it might send us, in the coming days, in the guise of synchronicities. Or maybe flashes of intuition, or through symbols in dreams. The universe is unlimited in the amount of abundance it has to offer us. “We are Divine enough to ask and we are important enough to receive.” Wayne Dyer.

Famous January 11 Birthdays: Jason Connery, Naomi Judd. “We’re spirited and spiritual…and fun follows us around.” Naomi Judd

Happy New Moon Blessings!

COSMIC WATCH:

We close out the year with the Moon in playful Leo all day, a seemingly perfect backdrop for our NYE celebrations. Plato once said that, “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

Intellectual Mercury also shifts into ambitious Capricorn today (9:03 am EST). If there’s a way to shatter that glass ceiling, chances are good that we’re going to find it now in the weeks ahead. Mercury will be in Capricorn until January 19.

Enterprising Mars sextiling futuristic Uranus tonight (9:31 pm EST) also helps us to get more excited about the positive changes that we envision making for ourselves in 2013, and the unique contributions that only we can offer up to the collective. This Mars-Uranus aspect is a very progressive influence that really helps us to think outside the proverbial box. It also is good for working with others on group projects and for involvement with humanitarian concerns.

“No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit.” Ansel Adams

“The cause is hidden. The effect is visible to all.” Ovid

COSMIC WATCH:

Today, the illuminating Sun is conjunct mysterious, intense Pluto, the symbolic ruler of the subconscious. This configuration has been compared to shining a bright light into a dark cave. We may suddenly become aware of deeper motivations, realities, or facts that were previously absent from our radar screen.

Too, it’s possible that some of what has been hidden or obscured from our view may have been due to a conscious effort, on our part, to not want to acknowledge certain things about ourselves. However, as Carl Jung once astutely stated, “What you resist persists.” It is really only when we have the courage to examine what we don’t want to look at, that we have a chance of finally putting the matter to bed and moving on. Sun-Pluto can also be very healing and transforming, especially when we are willing to face our fears or insecurities. It is also a time when we may want to fix or repair objects that are broken.

On another level, Sun-Pluto also tends to firm up our resolve or will. We can become very passionate now about going after what we want.  Also, on the flip side, we can become keenly aware of what we don’t want any more in our lives and we are not afraid to cut the strings now.

On the shadow side, there can also be a greater chance for power struggles or manipulations to ensue, with this influence, as our egos may be more unwilling to back off from our positions. What we may want to do now, to avoid wading into this sort of behavior, is to consciously seek out a spirit of compromise with each other. See what it is that we can all agree on. To help us out here, too, is a cooperative Sun-Saturn sextile. This constructive influence can inspire us to be more methodical and disciplined in our approach, more willing to delay immediate gratification in favor of obtaining our long-term goals. “As we get past our superficial material wants and instant gratification we connect to a deeper part of ourselves, as well as to others, and the universe.” Judith Wright

Famous People with Sun conjunct Pluto: Martha Stewart, Mick Jagger, Patrick Swayze, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross.

Famous December 30 Birthdays: Tiger Woods, Heidi Fleiss, Rudyard Kipling.

Denzel Washington, full moon in cancer december 2012, Full moon in cancer december 28 2012, Gayle King, life coaching for women, releasing

“What can you do to promote world peace? Go home and love your family.” Mother Teresa

COSMIC WATCH:

The last Full Moon of the year is occurring today in the sign of “nesting” Cancer, at 7 degrees (5:21 am EST), putting a spotlight on home, family, and security concerns. With this Full Moon, we also have the chance to gain greater awareness of how our personal life (Cancer) impacts our professional life (Sun in Capricorn), and vice versa. We are also ideally seeking to achieve more of a harmonious balance now between these two realms. Something that is often quite challenging for us to do.

Too, with Full Moons signifying a time of release, it is likely that certain elements will need to exit our lives now in order to obtain what we want for ourselves. Additionally, this “phasing out” period may be even more noteworthy now, as this Full Moon opposes “purging” Pluto and squares radical, “change-agent” Uranus. Plus, we are at the end of another calendar year and are likely much more eager to want to put the past behind us now, so we can start out fresh in the new year.

Moon-Pluto can provide us with greater resolve to face or tackle some of our darker or more serious issues, the ones that we maybe have been avoiding for a while because we were perhaps fearful or unsure of how to deal with them. In some cases, too, we may be forced to deal with certain issues now whether we want to or not. Both Pluto and Uranus have been known to add a certain urgency to our affairs, especially if we have been resistant to dealing with things in the past.

Also, this lunation trines “responsible” Saturn and “wounded healer” Chiron, suggesting that we do have two old masters by our side to guide us now. Moon-Saturn particularly summoning up our own mature judgment and wisdom, culled from our unique blend of life experiences. Moon-Saturn can make us very resourceful and resilient in the face of whatever life happens to serve up on our plate. “Turn your wounds into wisdom.” Oprah Winfrey

What is your “inner wisdom” telling you to do now?

Full Moon in Cancer activities: remodeling or improving the homestead; purchasing or selling real estate; having an open house; spending time with family members; nurturing the more vulnerable; pampering and self-care; being around water; volunteering in a soup kitchen; helping the homeless; experimenting with new recipes; dining out in restaurants; grocery-shopping; shopping for antiques; purchasing tableware; buying home furnishings and accessories; investigating our genealogy; taking measures that add to our feeling of security or well-being.

Famous Birthdays December 28: Denzel Washington, Gayle King.

“You pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too. That’s part of it.” Denzel Washington

Full Moon Blessings to you!

“Why is it that when one man builds a wall, the next man immediately needs to know what’s on the other side?” George R. R. Martin

COSMIC WATCH:

Curiosity can be a great thing. It offers us a way to be energetically engaged with our surroundings. Curiosity also fuels discovery and growth. It literally means we are eager to investigate and learn more. Today’s placement of the Moon in inquisitive Gemini is a perfect chance for us to fully employ our curiosity and venture beyond our current limits of understanding or knowledge.

Too, what is extra special about this day, and also a natural complement to the inquiring Gemini Moon, is that we have utilitarian Saturn sextile insightful Pluto. This is an ongoing influence that will be repeated in 2013 on March 8 and September 21. This aspect provides us with a solid foundation (Saturn) for being able to cut right through to the core of things (Pluto). Or, to get at the very heart of the matter of whatever it is that we want to explore.

Saturn-Pluto is an excellent influence for any type of detective work, problem-solving, or research. Or, for simply taking stock of matters. For instance, now might be a very good time to conduct a personal review of 2012, evaluating the highs and lows of the year. Saturn-Pluto is very good for taking corrective measures of any kind, or for fixing what’s broken. Pluto also gives a certain finesse in dealing with those scenarios of a more extreme or crisis-type nature. Saturn-Pluto is an aspect of transformation, or shape-shifting. This influence can also make us very motivated about achieving our goals (Saturn) and spreading our sphere of influence (Pluto) in the world. It is also excellent for figuring out how to best manage our resources.

Interestingly, on a collective level, lawmakers on Capitol Hill are also suppose to resume their talks this week about how to avert a fiscal cliff, which is reportedly set to take place January 1, if nothing is done. Hopefully, this Saturn-Pluto sextile will be a beneficial backdrop for arriving at some solutions to this suspenseful dilemma. Pluto rules debt and taxes, and is in Capricorn, the sign of government. Saturn is also in Pluto-ruled Scorpio, the sign of shared resources. To add some more intrigue or complication, Saturn and Pluto are both in awkward alignment (quinqunx) to intemperate Jupiter, the planet which also happens to rule politicians. 🙂

How would you like to reshape your world in 2013?
